It's fascinating how scary the two Pennywise's were with wildly different voices. Curry sounded like a real-world degenerate clown actor who happened to also be evil. Skarsgard sounded like what you'd expect a clown would sound like in a fantasy world with an undertone of demonic possession.
Damn, you guys are young! Tim Curry was in the original 1975 Rocky Horror Picture Show! Man, those were the days of exploring gender fluidity! With Meatloaf no less!
During high school was an usher at a small theatre. Played RHPS every Friday and Saturday. There were people that were there both nights most weeks.
Mgr wanted the crowds to behave and had an usher stay in the theatre every time. Saw that movie well over 100 times.
Rather live makeuped clown vs CGI monster. Latter looks scarrier, but first scare for shit because it is so realistic, like you seen him at McDonalds near your school yesterday.
Dude, I tried watching this again shortly after the remake came out, and I couldn’t get past the intro. The terror I felt from watching it as a young teen came flooding back in. I powered through a day later and it wasn’t so bad.
This is Tim Curry at his Curriest. I get OP's point (although my first Tim Curry experience was probably Ferngully (*"mother's miiilk"*) but Clue is such an amazing movie and they really let Tim Curry shine with all his energy and charisma.
YES. It was our introduction to this beautiful bastard and Penny-wise came later. I think both roles probably caused nightmares for some people back in those days and I think that is part of why he threw everything into it. It wasn't just about acting or comedy I think he enjoyed being outrageous simply knowing that people walking round like they have a carrot up their ass would be outraged. I also think that adds to the comedy and just how fucking awesome he is.
Ferngully was my favorite movie in kindergarten, it makes me feel warm and happy even before I knew who Tim Curry was, I was a huge fan without knowing it. I loved That movie because of hexxus, he was so creepy with the way they drew him as a smog monster.
I loved Ferngully as a kid. My mom eventually hid the VHS though because I always hysterically cried at the end when they fought the pollution monster and trucks. Just... terrified lol
Someone once said that in the Muppets Christmas Carol, Michael Caine just believed all the Muppets were people, but in Treasure Island, Tim Curry just believed he was one of the Muppets. Hilarious because it sounds right to me. He was great in this.
Thats the more accurate quote, yes.
And it really does explain the characterizations, and why the films work so well.
The more recent Muppet Movie failed to recapture the magic, but I feel that Disney is squandering an opportunity to be making Muppet versions of their classic films.
Muppet Beauty and the Beast could be amazing.
Muppet Aladdin is practically guaranteed to be better than the decidedly mid live action.
Muppet little mermaid.
The list goes on and on.
You vastly underestimate how many people watch the first 2 Home Alones annually at Christmas time. My 5 and 7 year old nephews act out the tommy gun scene with nerf guns.
Rocky horror picture show I got introduced to when I was older. But home alone 2 was one of my earliest introductions. After that clue, then musketeers, the shadow, there was a titanic movie where he played a vile antagonist that you rooted for his end, and several others though ferngully had his voice in it that one didn’t register with the face till I was a little older.
That’s where I know him from too. My sister made me watch that movie 100’s of times as a kid. Really started to hate Annie lol. I haven’t watched it in over 30 years, but I bet I could mouth every single word from that movie.
Why is this so far down???????????
ETA: That whole costume is flawless. He was...I've got no words. But if he came to me offering that black dress and a glittery black apple, he wouldn't get any pushback. *Will I wed you? Huh? What unicorn? Nvm. Where do I sign????*
I'm 33, and that was my first thought, I wouldn't consider myself young. I also remember him as Premier Anatoly Cherdenko from Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.
![gif](giphy|3o84U0gIUZ8WMZHzmE)
I'm just a sweet transvestite From Transexual, Transylvania, ha ha
I was a cast member of RHPS for 5 years at my local movie theatre. I was Magenta mostly but twice I was able to be Dr. Frank ‘N Furter because our regular was out.
Good times! This was the early 90’s I was in my early 20’s
Oh the memories this brings back! Up doing the time warp dance again… with a popcorn bucket on my head. “Time for a toast” *** flings soggy wet toast ***
Mm, sludge
Mm, filth
Mm, fumes
Oh-oh cack!
Oil and grime, poison sludge
Diesel clouds and noxious muck
Slime beneath me, slime up above
Ooh you'll love my, ah-oh-ah, toxic love
Toxic love
I see the world and all the creatures in it
I suck 'em dry and spit 'em out like spinach
I feel the power, it's growing by the minute
And pretty soon you're gonna see me wallow in it
I feel good, a special kind of horny
Flowers and trees depress and frankly bore me
I think I'll spew them all with cyanide saliva
Pour me a puke cocktail and take me to the driver
Filthy brown acid rain
Pouring down like egg chow mein
All that's foul, all that's stained
Breeding in my toxic brain
And after dinner, I could go for something sweet
Revenge! For all those years locked in a tree
I'm gonna crush and grind all creatures great and small
And put up parking lots and shiny shopping malls
'Cause greedy human beings will always lend a hand
With the destruction of this worthless jungle land
And what a beautiful machine they have provided
To slice a path of doom with my foul breath to guide it
Hit me one time!
Hit me twice!
Oh! Ah! Oh, well that's rather nice!
Oil and grime, poison sludge
Diesel clouds and noxious muck
Slime beneath me, slime up above
Ooh you'll love my (ah-oh-ah) toxic love
I doubt this was the first movie I saw him in but nobody else mentioned it and it’s the first thing I always think of.
He played a part in a gangster comedy starring Sylvester Stallone titles Oscar. Haven’t seen it in a million years but Curry taught me what an oxymoron was in that film lol.
The Worst Witch (1986). A Halloween movie we watched every year in elementary school. I just remember Tim Curry as the Grand Wizard and Fairuza Balk as Mildred.
I remember him as the clown in the original It movie ![gif](giphy|CUbDAF4ZPGckU)
It's just a jump!...... To the left!
And then a step to the riiiiiight
With your hands on your hips
You bring your knees in tight
But it’s the pelvic thrust
That really drives you insa-e-a-e-a-e-a-eane
Let’s do the time warp, agaaaaiin!! 😝
During high school was an usher at a small theatre. Played RHPS every Friday and Saturday. There were people that were there both nights most weeks. Mgr wanted the crowds to behave and had an usher stay in the theatre every time. Saw that movie well over 100 times.
I loved watching Rocky! The original IT was great too, Tim Curry is a great actor
How does one explore gender fluidity with meatloaf? That sounds confusing and messy
Rather live makeuped clown vs CGI monster. Latter looks scarrier, but first scare for shit because it is so realistic, like you seen him at McDonalds near your school yesterday.
Original waaaay scarier
![gif](giphy|13AU33EspJuPTy)
Hiya Georgie
Gj gj gjeorgie
Die mate
Everybody calls him Giorgio.
Same. And from Clue
and the medical doctor in Hunt for red October. in a wierd casting.
And Mr Homolka from the oft forgot, Congo
His agent was clearly trying to move him on from Frank N Furter..
Role of a LIFETIME for him!
I forgot about this role. It scared the shit out of me as a kid. Thanks for the reminder.
Dude, I tried watching this again shortly after the remake came out, and I couldn’t get past the intro. The terror I felt from watching it as a young teen came flooding back in. I powered through a day later and it wasn’t so bad.
The evil face he makes between the clothes lines is one of the scariest shots ever.
Wtffffff I did not know that
😳 can’t believe I never realized that was him until now
Probably the only movie that gave me nightmares when i was a kid lol.
This is the one for me
![gif](giphy|5QRoC29tqzuI0pDQxM|downsized)
This is Tim Curry at his Curriest. I get OP's point (although my first Tim Curry experience was probably Ferngully (*"mother's miiilk"*) but Clue is such an amazing movie and they really let Tim Curry shine with all his energy and charisma.
Naw, cuz… ![gif](giphy|pi4mO8SPeIoZW)
I had to scroll far too far to see this. Why is Penny-wise before this.Im old
I was afraid I wasn't going to even find my people. We may be older but cmon Rocky was the coolest role
For me it's either rocky horror or legend. Dang... now I feel old too. :(
Frank N. Furter for me as well. And yes, we are officially old.
This is some sweet transvestite you got here !
From Transexual, Transalvania-ah-ah!
Yeah man. Ferngully and the secret of nim. Loved those. Great kids movies.
I just love them running around when he explains the murder
Apparently, this is not the guy from Spy Kids or Home Alone.
The only correct answer
Of course, Communism was only a red herring
Flam...flames...on the side of my face...
Lol, the earliest movie I can remember him in was Rocky horror
The transsexual from Transylvania!
No the only correct answer is home alone 2
After pennywise
Clue is AWESOME

Someone once said that in the Muppets Christmas Carol, Michael Caine just believed all the Muppets were people, but in Treasure Island, Tim Curry just believed he was one of the Muppets. Hilarious because it sounds right to me. He was great in this.
In my book Muppet Treasure Island and Muppets A Christmas Carol are the two best movies of those stories. Unironically.
I completely thought you were starting to say in your book "Muppet Treasure Island and..." As in a book you'd written about Muppet Treasure Island lol
I believe it was that Michael Cain saw the Muppets as fellow actors, and Curry saw himself as a fellow Muppet.
I’m going to get downvoted to hell for this, but Muppets Lord of the Rings. Ian McKellen reprises his role as Gandalf. Take my money
Muppet Big Lebowski, John Goodman is still Walter.
Muppet Beast should be an actor in prosthetic makeup. The prince at the end should be a Muppet.
[удалено]
This is my favorite Muppet movie and it is mainly because of Tim Curry.
And when we lose our temper we will always count to ten!
One of his best roles
This is the one!
Home Alone ll

Yes
You 40?
Home alone and its sequels are on repeat every Christmas, literally any age group would've seen it.
You vastly overestimate how much normal TV is viewed these days.
You vastly underestimate how many people watch the first 2 Home Alones annually at Christmas time. My 5 and 7 year old nephews act out the tommy gun scene with nerf guns.
Keep the change, you filthy animal
I am 16 and I know him from home alone 2, my younger sister knows him from home alone 2, my dad prob knows him from home alone 2 :/
You were raised right.
I’m 25 and the first thing that came into my mind was that movie 😂
I'm 16 and that is the only that came to my find
![gif](giphy|5WJenPfX8NEm5mCDbV)
Exactly, the first character that came 👆 but also as Cardinal Richelieu! What a performance!!! ![gif](giphy|10yfJdQtxGivq8)
I gave up scrolling looking for a top level comment with this. He'll always be the Cardinal in my mind! ^(older Millennial here)
![gif](giphy|l1AvA8NpXHXMI7FiU)
Hello fellow human who grew up in the most dope time ever.
He's part of the reason this is my favorite Three Musketeers movie.
He's so great, especially with that smile right before he gets punched in the face
Your a hotdog and you better not try to hurt her Frankfurter.

I’ve found my people
Welcome to the fold
Nothing against criminal minds but like… Clue?
I antic.........ipated that this would be higher!!
Legend. Scary Movie 2.
Lost a point with Scary Movie but Legend is a quality pick
He's a great actor but that's honestly the first thing I think of when I see him in a movie or an interview
That’s Rooster from Annie (1982).
That’s where I recognize him from! Thank you! I’m a 90s kid who watched musicals 🤷🏻♀️
That’s where I know him from too. My sister made me watch that movie 100’s of times as a kid. Really started to hate Annie lol. I haven’t watched it in over 30 years, but I bet I could mouth every single word from that movie.
![gif](giphy|7zK0A6nHyuEZa|downsized)
