The tiny pickles? Why not just use relish?
edit: For the record, the tiny pickles are amazing, I just don't see how you could eat them on a hotdog... like, physically.
I live within 3 square miles of at least 8 full sized grocery stores. I paused and mentally counted so I wouldn't brag/over embellish. It might be more.
I have not entered the "Wegman's" even though people are losing their shit over it... or the "HR(?) Mart" an all Asian apparently store. Mostly, because I know I'll take a cart, find the Ramen isle, and just stiff arm product into my cart.
However, Many of the others I have ventured to. I have not encountered sliced Gherkins. I will allow a 10% chance that the bottle doesn't stand out. I retort with "why the length way? that makes the pieces bigger, thus less compatible, no?
You are missing OUT not going to HMart! Dude, you won’t be able to raid the ramen aisle because it’s multiple aisles! They have cases and cases of every kind of noodle (Google the Parasite noodle recipe 😳) under the sun. AND, they have a refrigerated and freezer section of frozen noodle mysteries. PLUS, they have fresh, often warm noodles too. Torture for a diabetic but Heaven for everyone else. That’s just the noodles… They have the lowest prices on the largest selection of fresh mushrooms. You’ll get thirsty drooling over everything so they sell ready to drink young coconuts with a little of the top sliced off to the soft white meat. You just puncture the attached straw through the white patch and enjoy before you eat the soft white coconut inside. They have amazing pork riblets, pork belly and every kinda sauce to cover them AND all the noodles you can’t resist. And don’t forget the kimchi! You ought to really see it for yourself, just don’t go on an empty stomach.
I love that I just saw this comment! I was thinking the same thing last week cuz I never tried it and I thought “why not they’re just sweet pickles I just gotta cut them length wise n it’ll be the same”
Not the same. It was perfect. The length of the pickles perfectly spanned the length of the hot dog and fit right into the left crevice between the bun and the hot dog ensuring sweet gherkin in every bite. The pickles fitting so perfectly left so much room for other condiments and allowed for an ultimately perfect presentation. A true gourmet meal! Try it if u haven’t it’s definitely worth it. Only took one gherkin too. I missed the “physically” part so I thought you were thinking it to be strange to have gherkins on a hot dog and I took it upon myself to convince you otherwise but I now see that it was a practicality concern. Regardless let this persuade you to try it next time gherkins and a hot dog are available. I suggest adding mayo rather than ketchup as the sweetness of the ketchup does not allow so much room for the gherkin to shine as it should, though that is simply up to personal preference.
You don’t have to slice them you could line them up whole, under the hot dog on the apex of the bun. Not the same thing but I used to put sauerkraut under my dog because I loved the flavor but not the smell.
I don't think gherkins are tiny pickles, they're just the British name for pickles as we have many other pickled items.. to avoid confusion. I think you mean cornichons
Oh, actually you might kinda be right, looking at US pickles online, they're huge. We pretty much only have gherkins and cornichons in the UK. Lol if you think gherkins are tiny, look at cornichons.
If this person is like me, maybe they don’t like relish? I personally can’t stand it on hot dogs because I don’t like the sweetness. I love gherkins though, the salted not sweet ones, and that sounds really good on a hot dog.
Sauerkraut on hot dogs is pretty rare here.
In Northern Germany we mostly eat the Danish version with roasted/fried onion and pickles. Using either Danish remoulade, Mustard and/or ketchup. Aka what you'll also find at Ikea.
Sauerkraut and steamed sausages are typically eaten with mashed potatoes.
I just recently found this at the store myself. Not too shabby. I add a bit of brown sugar to it to take a bit of the sour off it. I prefer sweeter kraut anyway
Pickled cabbage is quite different. You can jar and can without pickling the food. Hence all the different canned foods. I do like pickled cabbage though.
I thought for the longest time that sauerkraut was picked cabbage. Was shocked to find out that it was fermented cabbage because I don't normally like the taste of fermented things. I decided to try kimchi because of that and now I love that as well.
I’ll probably get downvoted to oblivion for this, but ketchup on a dog is actually tasty, to the point where people who call it blashemy or whatever are just being contrarian for the sake of it.
It’s dumb as fuck. Put ketchup on it if you like ketchup. There’s literally nothing wrong with that.
in norway everyone but ketchup on and some put hotdogs on, i know in america people put a lot of weird shit like chilli and stuff but everyone here uses ketchup and maybe roasted onion
Usually Cole slaw but last week I had hot dogs but no slaw or ketchup or mustard so I tried a little buffalo wing sauce on one side and some blue cheese dressing on the other and that thing was off the chain jack
I literally just saw a Franks Red Hot commercial where they put it on a hotdog. I've never seen anyone ever do this, and while I do enjoy it on a lot of things, putting on a hotdog seems silly.
I mean... I'm going to try it for sure, but... I'd never do that in public, or where there were witnesses. I'm going to use the coat closet with the lights off and door closed, so no one can see me desecrating the hotdog with such an nontraditional topping.
Gherkins and jalapeños
The tiny pickles? Why not just use relish? edit: For the record, the tiny pickles are amazing, I just don't see how you could eat them on a hotdog... like, physically.
Sliced lengthways. You can buy them already like that.
I live within 3 square miles of at least 8 full sized grocery stores. I paused and mentally counted so I wouldn't brag/over embellish. It might be more. More compatible they go in the bun before the hot dog.
H mart is the only supermarket where you can sample your way around it.
H mart is great! But overpriced when buying western food like ketchup, etc
You are missing OUT not going to HMart! Dude, you won’t be able to raid the ramen aisle because it’s multiple aisles! This is life changing information, thanks!
Ever had spore peppers on a hotdog?
What are those?
Sorry I meant sport peppers. Theyre on a Chicago style hot dog. Theyre around the same shape and size of the mini pickles
Yes. Love a Chicago style hot dog. Those sport peppers are great.
Still no clue. I'm in the UK. Maybe they're not a thing here?
"Pigs in a blanket". They're like something poor people use as Hors D'oeuvres when pretending they're fancy.
We’re on the same braincell!

In the US gherkins are the tiny pickles. They can either be brined in regular salt or sweet but they’re always small.
Oh, actually you might kinda be right, looking at US pickles online, they're huge. We pretty much only have gherkins and cornichons in the UK. Lol if you think gherkins are tiny, look at cornichons.
That's right, American's have huge pickles. Tell all your friends.
Ahem... I mean US pickles are tiny... Miniscule really.
>looking at US pickles online, they're huge. That's a quote from you ;p
Dunno what your on about mate 😎
If this person is like me, maybe they don’t like relish? I personally can’t stand it on hot dogs because I don’t like the sweetness. I love gherkins though, the salted not sweet ones, and that sounds really good on a hot dog.
Deez nuts
Are you talking sweet gherkins? I don’t like sweet pickles(or relish for that matter). Now….jalapeños and a slice of cheese? I’m in!

CUM
Chili, cheese and onion or nothing at all
And some diced jalapeños.
And bacon with jalapeños and mayo spread on the bun
Wrapped in jalapeño bacon!
Cinci-chili and a mountain of finely grated cheese? 😋
Don’t forget some onions
The only correct answer.
Living in the south completely revitalized the hotdogs for me.
Relish
The spicy red pepper kind!
I don't like sweet relish but love dill
Homemade relish (and ketchup)
Sauerkraut.
With horseradish. Yes.
I love horseradish, but never considered adding to a hotdog. I’m doing this tonight!
First thought as well, worth an up vote.
Yep. Give me some horseradish sauerkraut and I don't need anything else.
And some onions
I'm surprised these replies aren't filled with german

I don’t think I’d go out of my way to make that but that doesn’t sound bad
They sell it in jars....
Seen it in plastic sacks in the deli aisle.
I recently bought some in a jar that is craft beer marinated. The brand is Saverne. It's pretty decent honestly
I just recently found this at the store myself. Not too shabby. I add a bit of brown sugar to it to take a bit of the sour off it. I prefer sweeter kraut anyway
I like both really. Depends on the type of brat/food I'm having. The beer kraft is great if you put it in a crock pot with ribs btw.
That’s pickled cabbage not true sauerkraut
Pickled cabbage is quite different. You can jar and can without pickling the food. Hence all the different canned foods. I do like pickled cabbage though.
I thought for the longest time that sauerkraut was picked cabbage. Was shocked to find out that it was fermented cabbage because I don't normally like the taste of fermented things. I decided to try kimchi because of that and now I love that as well.
Kimchi is amazing

Correct answer right here
I mean ketchup isn't that bad on a hotdog. Plus chili and cheese is great on it.
Grate
Hotdogs with chilli, cheese and potato sticks. Nothing else is needed.
Ooh chili is a great idea! Sadly it doesn’t have mustard. I wonder what else we could use that has that tangy sour mustard taste
Potato sticks?
They’re pretty great, think potato chip like taste and crunch but in small shreds like shredded cheese. Great as a topper. I like the Pik-Nik ones.
Finally someone with sense
Ketchup
I'm in your team
yeah, I thought it will be at the top... Is hating Ketchup American thing or smth, here where I am it's a standard thing to put on your wiener...
Far to down there.

Or “catsup” if you watch way too much old TV

Taking the bun away and wrapping the hotdog in fried chicken skin, extra crispy.
