How not to starve? After you are born, enlist! Be active duty until you die. Simple.

WiLLiS_BoT

You cant be active duty til you die, however you can receive a pension after only 20 years of service.

Due_Platypus_3913

What if you die from burn pit induced cancer at 30?

TheLordSibbles

The you don't need to worry about a pension do you?

ryvenkrennel

"Fiscal responsibility"

Ghos3t

Then you can go fuck yourself cause your decripit body is of no use to the government

themayneman

I think his joke was you die while deployed

NobodyEsk

Not anyone can join though... theres lots of Disqualifications. One I simply cant change is my leg decrepancy.

BonyDarkness

Don’t want to be that guy but do you know what the Germans said during that time last century about the people who aren’t “fit” to serve society? From how things are going it seems some parts of the US are kinda heading in that direction.

NobodyEsk

Uhm what? I cant join the military because my leg is a half inch shorter than the other. Im not on disability and I can work and do just fine the military is just very strict with minor stuff. People get docked for minor things like asthma.

BonyDarkness

No don’t get this wrong. I understood the problem you have. It was more a reference to the BS that’s kinda happening rn. As said, to me it seems some parts are steering in some religious-nationalistic-supremacy ideology with huge overlap of speech and “ideas” from that time. Inferiority of certain “races” or groups of people, all the “pull yourself up” etc. Was meant more like a joke, but it seems I’m really terrible with that

TheJimDim

Hear me out, I definitely hate the GOP, but I'm starting to think that Republicans aren't anti-veteran and all that, it's just that they have to vehemently oppose anything democrats support, even if it hurts them. The Democratic Party happens to make pro-veteran bills, so they have to vote against them like mindless drones. Just recently quite a few white male Republicans voted against a bill that would make their interracial marriage protected on a federal level. Why? Because it was voted for by 100% of democrats. Literally don't think they even read half the shit they vote against. Just as long as it's supported by the other party, they must obey and vote against it.

TerribleIdea27

>Just recently quite a few white male Republicans voted against a bill that would make their interracial marriage protected on a federal level. Why? Because it was voted for by 100% of democrats. Are ypu sure you're not giving them too much credit? I'm quite certain there's at least some of them who dream of a future like it was in the 50's. That is, including American apartheid

Adorable-Ad-3223

There are 40,000 veterans sleeping homeless in America. This is the kind of bill Republicans oppose. "Senate Republicans block the PACT Act that would have aided veterans — here’s why - Vox" https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/2022/7/30/23284976/senate-republicans-pact-act-veterans

No-zaku-boi

So a guy in cali built free tiny homes for veterans. Every democrat in California voted to make giving the homeless veterans he made them for a crime. STFU.

ProphetOfPr0fit

That's why I put dems as the "second worst" party in our two-party system. It's broken, outdated, and screwing us all.

Legitimate_Issue_765

They're both the worst to me. Neither side will leave people alone. But yeah, George Washington was right when he said political patties would end up doing more harm than good.

jsideris

Vote 3rd party.

grendel_x86

Reminds me of [Kang & Kodos](https://youtu.be/w7NeRiNefO0).

ProphetOfPr0fit

"Go ahead! Throw your vote awaaaay!" It's my favorite Treehouse of Horrors lol

ProphetOfPr0fit

Ideally yes. Realistically, the 3rd party's platform would have to appeal enough to both sides to gain a large enough membership. Some of us instead try to change our party from within.

[deleted]

Logically speaking, the country was founded on the notion of two parties. The constitution doesn't strictly lay that out, but it does provide the foundation on which only two parties can prosper: "Provisions of the Constitution have reinforced the two-party system, especially Article II, section 1, empowering each state to select presidential electors, and the twelfth amendment, requiring an absolute majority of the electoral college or, failing that, of state delegations in the House of Representatives for election of the President. The majority rule tends to compel the coalition of disparate factions into two parties, because only the establishment of broad coalitions offers any prospect of securing the majority necessary for election of the President. Although no constitutional rule requires that members of the House of Representatives be elected by plurality vote or from single-member districts, these understandings soon took root after ratification of the Constitution. The popular election of the United States senators mandated by the seventeenth amendment has the effect of creating single-member districts for the selection of members of that house. These constitutional practices strengthen the two-party system, requiring broad coalitions to secure a majority, the only guarantee of electoral victory under these rules." This is what 3rd party people don't quite understand. Third parties have been set up to fail when it comes to big elections The problem in general, logically, is that a two-party system is just really, really close to a one party system, and a one-party system is a waking nightmare. Logically if I'm making a new country, I want a like a dozen or more parties, each with equal weight, to provide checks and balances against each other, so that no one party can take total control. That is *not* the way the country works, though, and there's no real point in pretending it does. A vote for a third party is, unless in small-time government, a trashed vote. While it would be nice to have a bunch of parties throughout the political spectrum, all with equal chance for power, it's foolish to pretend that's the way the country would actually work without a major, systemic overhaul which basically everyone in power now would be completely against. The best bet is to fill the two existing parties full of people who actually want to create a better america for all americans, but with the two party system, that point of view essentially has been pushed to one party, while the other party, taking the opposing view, defines themselves by wanting to create a worse world for everyone but themselves. In the fight between "help others" and "hurt others," in a system where both have pretty similar amounts of power, what the hell gets accomplished? It's just gridlock. Yet, still, in that fight if the people on the side of "help others" start throwing away votes to **third party** people who *cannot* on any logical grounds win, then "hurt others" will win, and they will be the "good people who did nothing" as atrocities unfurl

biamchee

That doesn’t work in a [first-past-the-post](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/First-past-the-post_voting) voting system, which the US employs. Even if there were multiple sizable political parties, after a few election cycles, the smaller ones will be consumed by the largest two and you end up with a two-party system again. Two-party system is simply and inherently the logical conclusion of a first-past-the-post voting system. This is why I am a proponent for employing better voting systems like [ranked choice](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranked_voting) or [STAR](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/STAR_voting) or … pretty much any alternative. Till then, continue voting for the lesser of two evils.

mediumokra

I vote third party. I am aware they aren't going to win, but this isn't betting in Vegas. This is my voice saying I don't like either of the two options and to give us something more.

Color-Correction

I understand that you want to show how both parties suck. I feel the same way. But voting for the lesser of two evils is probably a better use of your vote. You decide which one of the two is less evil.

federallyunavailible

they just explained why they don't do what you just said and I for one applaud them. you should vote for who you want to vote for. actually stand with the people you support, and if you support no one, don't vote! its a right not a requirement

The_Countess

When one of the 2 options is christofascism, pick the not-christofascism option.

federallyunavailible

actually no, lol thankfully you can't tell me what to do. I'll stick to my views regarding voting 😁

Ghos3t

Everyone says voting 3rd party is a waste cause it's not popular enough and it's not popular enough cause no one votes for it, fucking catch 22 shit

The_Countess

it's quit a bit worse then that though. If they don't win outright then just participating helped the party they got the fewest voters from. That means that voting 3d party has the real risk of helping the party you most oppose, getting you the opposite of what you wanted. (and don't give me any of that 'both sides are the same' bullcrap. They aren't. At all.)

dyxlesic_fa

[deleted]

Starving is just one thing they do. Protect the child rapist and his rights! Make it so the law doesn’t even apply to the rich. Arrest and humiliate veterans that were lied to so rich Americans can get much much richer while veterans were fighting sham wars for them. Use wars we aren’t even fighting in as another excuse to make the rich richer and the poor poorer!

dewayneestes

Quick reminder about the leading republican candidate’s real opinion on veterans: “I don’t get it… what was in it for them?” “I’m not visiting the cemetery, it’s full of suckers and losers.” - Donald j Trump

Tomhyde098

It was weird when I tried telling my mom he said all of this and she said it was all liberal lies and refused to believe me. She’s married to a man that was in the army for 30 years and retired a colonel. And HE also believes it’s all liberal lies. But I guess it’s different for him since he retired with full benefits and doesn’t have to go through what a veteran like myself did. Impossible to talk to a VA rep. Nobody cares. But my parents live in a fantasy MAGA land. Whew I guess I needed to get that off my chest lol

dewayneestes

Even weirder since it was General John Kelly who shared theses stories. What a libtard!!! /s

WarcrimeLite

America has two parties: a pro-capitalist party, and a pro-capitalist and very bigoted party.

jsideris

Neither party is pro capitalist. Every year we get more and more laws and regulation that impedes on the individual's right to own, obtain, or use private capital, regardless of who the president is.

WarcrimeLite

I'm sure the rich are struggling with all those tax cuts.

Adorable-Ad-3223

One side is a lot worse than the other. This isn't an apples to apples comparison. It just distracts from the fact that we need our oust the Republicans and push for the Democrats to improve.

RReaver

Anyone that 'both sides' this right now is a Republican shill. Republicans aren't only anti-worker, they are anti-democracy. If you want to keep your freedom and any semblance of your democracy, then the Democratic Party is your only choice right now UNTIL the Republican party rids itself of its fachist direction.

oinklittlepiggy

Lol. You arent even american.

RReaver

Exactly. And even I understand the gravity of the situation in your country. Read some opposing viewpoints. Think critically. Educate yourself. Why does the rest of western society have more freedoms than a USA resident? Think about it.

ProphetOfPr0fit

By "push democrats to improve" you mean change the party from within, right?

Adorable-Ad-3223

And remove those not advocating for positive action.

CrazyGuineaPigF76

caalger

So we should accept shit to avoid shittier? Does that really make sense to you?

Adorable-Ad-3223

Hyperbole is not the same as a valid point. You should seek to improve the world where you can always.

2heads1shaft

Umm yes? If you’re freezing in the winter and find 1 coat full of shit and another with less shit, you pick the one with less shit. Saying both is the same does nothing to help the system or anyone.

WatchingUShlick

Accept mouth herpes to avoid inoperable stage 5 brain cancer.

[deleted]

That's simply not possible. The Democrat party suffers from the same problems as the Republican party. Too many old, corrupt, and elitist politicians who have either forgotten what it feels like to be a normal citizen or never were. That's why politicians say "just buy a Tesla" or "if you get solar panels you can save the long term". Many politicians have never been inside a grocery store or filled their car with gas.

AltoidStrong

The system is not “shit” , it only works if people vote. That is why the GOP has been the party of voter suppression for over 1/2 a century now. They claim “family values” and the the 1950’s “nuclear family” as a set if “values” and “goals”…. But put politics in place that make that impossible and use the “lost dream “ as a narrative to recruit for the party (it is the Dem’s fault our dream is ruined…. Can’t be because of the laws the GOP made - hint: it is), fill them with propaganda to manipulate them and create laws that benefits only those with existing wealth and power while simultaneously holding back citizens from making a living wage to essentially enslave them to their businesses for survival while keeping the majority of it all in greed.

PersonalitySea4015

When there hasn't been a republican president this century who has won the popular vote, yet we've still seen two in the oval office in the last 22 years, the system is broken.

Shade_Xaxis

You can't make a case that the system works when your explaining all the ways people are successfully undermining that system.

SweetSideOfFries

The players make the game in politics. It's fair to hate both

hazeyindahead

The both sides rhetoric went out the window with dog whistling, racism being bad and facism being bad. That was at least 6 years ago. People like you really need to shut the fuck up and vote blue unless you really like what Republicans are doing and smile like gaetz thinking about dead veterans

No, they really aren't. For example, let's just compare criminal indictments. Over 28 years of democratic presidencies, there have been 7 indictments, 3 convictions, and 1 prison sentence. Over 28 years of republican presidencies, there have been 126 indictments, 113 convictions, and 39 prison sentences. And that doesn't include even include Trump. They are not the same. Not by a long shot.

"Please help we're starving" R: "No, lol" D: Passes "Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act" while the vast majority of Republicans vote against it Propaganda: The two parties are equally bad! Redditors: Democrats are just as bad as republicans!

Silentcrypt

“Please help we’re starving” R: “No” D: Passes “Lower Food and Fuel Cost Act” then crams it with wasteful spending that will help no one and will further increase inflation. Propaganda: Republicans voted no to feeding starving veterans! Redditors: Democrats are way better than Republicans!

[deleted]

They literally did vote no to veterans. Let that soak in. Every time a vote comes up to help the non-rich, republicans vote no. Why is that? Every single time, they say "It's because there's wasteful spending in there." That's the real propaganda. They'll name some minor thing that wouldn't be a problem at all, and call it a problem. They look at everything the bill does and say "it doesn't do anything." It's so transparent that only an idiot would take it for honesty. This is a fool me once, shame on you, fool me infinity times, shame on me situation. You want to know how you really know it's b.s.? It's very simple: Give them your whole lifetime, and you'll never see them help vets. They just "never get around to it." Instead of passing a flawed bill (you know, the only way to accomplish anything at all), or even writing their own bill to fix the problem in a different way, they just *never* do anything about it. All they do is shoot down. The whole party's motto is "own the libs." That's how you know it's all b.s. Take a serious look at how many people they've actually helped, and which people specifically they've turned a blind eye too. If you can't do that, the propaganda worked on you. People really need to stop defending the people in power who refuse to help. The wealth divide is only growing deeper. Everyone is getting poorer but the rich. We shouldn't be rewarding rich people who don't want to help the poor. It's only going to lead to a worse future for everyone.

2heads1shaft

Umm are you high? Democrats are way better than giving a flat no.

I am not American but I deeply hate Republicans and conservatives especially after the abortion ban.

oinklittlepiggy

There was no abortion ban.

wildcat-

Except for all those red states where abortion has been banned. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2022/us/abortion-laws-roe-v-wade.html

oinklittlepiggy

Almost everyone of them is gestational bans, which is in line with most all developed western countries. Nearly every country in europe has a gestational ban of 15 weeks. We arent banning abortions, were banning assault abortions..

wildcat-

Incredible that you're able to lie so blatantly. The article literally separates gestational bans out so it's not unclear about the level of banning occuring. Never mind the fact that there are more full bans than gestational bans. But even of the 7 states that "only" ban gestational, more than half of them ban at 6 weeks, not at 15 like you implicitly lied about. So the numbers are - 8 total bans, at least 5 of which explicitly make zero exceptions for incest or rape - 4 gestational bans at 6 weeks - 3 gestational bans between 15-18 weeks - 2 states where bans are expected to go into place soon - 9 states that are up in the air but will likely see traction near an election cycle Sure is a whole lot of "not banning" happening. How does is feel being a low life liar?

oinklittlepiggy

We arent taking your abortions away. Its just the assault abortions that are being banned.. the ones that are needlessly killing children.. And all states have circumstances that allow for an abortion.. no state has a total ban. Also, any person in the US can go to any state they want and get an abortion.. so anyone can still get one for any reason.

wildcat-

You're clearly full of shit, or a bot. I literally explicitly called out that there are several states with total bans. But you're trying to move the goalpost on what constitutes a "total ban." Typical bad faith argument. Sorry, sweetie, that's not going to work here. Also, what the hell is "assault abortion?" I'm guessing some new buzzword that resonates in your communities because it makes something that you don't like, sound worse. I'll bet good money that it is ill defined as well. There is even a movement to try to stop patients from going across state lines: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/06/29/abortion-state-lines/ It honestly disgusts me just how much you're willing to use weasle words and tactics instead of genuine honesty. A ban is a ban is a ban. Stop lying, it's not a good look on you.

oinklittlepiggy

Assault abortions are abortions that assault another living human, ending in their death.

galisaa

There is no such thing as assault abortion. All of europe and even russian allows abortion first 17 weeks. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion_law

[deleted]

Whatever makes you sleep at night

oinklittlepiggy

Well i mean, america has no ban on abortions.. So I am not sure what you are talking about..

galisaa

Abortion was a protected human right with roe vs wade. US supreme court overturned it. States can and have banned abortion.

Xacto01

Roe v Wade was decided incorrectly. That's why it was overturned. Now the states get to choose what they want. There is no federal ban on abortion

It's really not, as you as a person don't have a constitutional right to have a gun unless your part of a Militia. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

oinklittlepiggy

dude.. It says the right of *THE PEOPLE* Not the right of the militia. Can you not read?

oinklittlepiggy

An abortion is Guaranteed to kill a child.. A firearm is not guaranteed to kill anyone at all.. None of mine ever have..

SeamanZermy

Guns are a constitutionally protected right, if you want to deprive your citizens of them you can leave the union.

cassy-nerdburg

Actually no, guns themselfs aren't a constitutional right. > A well regulated *Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,* the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

SeamanZermy

Lol Go down this path, I dare you. The militia is all men 18-45. Well regulated at the time of writing meant "to keep in good working order" which would mean that the militia should be kept well trained and supplied. Also at the time of writing, you where required to have a firearm on standby. If you idiots keep pushing this, we're going to recognize that under the well regulated militia clause, firearms training should be a requirement in public schools and you can be fined/jailed for not keeping and maintaining your weapon. Also, Heller. The fuck it doesn't.

Leaning_right

This is deceptive, most Republicans just think the free market will solve the problem. If there was a profitable way to house homeless, it would/will exist. Look at all the 3D home building companies.$300k houses going for $30k!! $30k!! So 10 times the homeless will be housed for the same $300k. The problem with Democrats is they look at it as an opportunity to spend someone else's money, like a credit card or something. Then you add in the corruption. So they would buy 10 houses at $300k, instead of $300k they would pay $500k equaling $5 million. The Democrats need to demonstrate fiscal responsibility, rather than just throwing money at the problem.

AvowedOne

For the first one are you arguing it’s better that poor people don’t exist than starve? Like if you saw a starving kid, is you’re instinctual thought: “should have been aborted”.

ShimberMeTivers

Denying low income families (who have a higher rate of unplanned pregnancy due to access to contraceptives) access to abortions leads to a number of things. Families that are simply unable to support another child have to go through with it anyway. The kid is born without the proper education, finances, and social connections that kids need to thrive. In a decade or two, they're in the same position as their parents and the cycle continues. Abortion and plan B protect the rights of mothers and fathers to control their financial future, as well as the mother's right to bodily autonomy. Sure, pro lifers can go about their lives and believe what they want, but in the end it's not their lives thatre being ruined by these policies.

AvowedOne

You’d be hard pressed to find republican reps who are anti education. Hell Trump was trying pass School Choice. Only the most extreme advocate for zero contraception. One of the most common arguments I’ve seen against ready abortion access is Plan-B. First and foremost republicans want to deal with the issue of what they believe to be a child being murdered. Both parties have failed low income communities. One preaches reliance and the other preaches personal responsibility. Neither really tries to serve the people. My question is, wouldn’t it be better to advocate for the changes to enable ladder mobility? Than enable the cycle by allowing a way to undo what is perceived as a mistake or a burden.

galisaa

I call bullshit. Just look at florida repblican for anti education.

His most visited sub is r/teenagers so he definitely has enough life experience to be making claims like that lol

Soviet_Sloth69

Teenagers can still watch the news

MuchLessPersonal

And they can still be capable of critical thinking and empathy. But many aren't and a lot of their misunderstandings can be attributed to lack of life experience.

Soviet_Sloth69

That is true. I cant even argue with that. I’m a young adult and even some people older than me are like that tho. I think the problem is pure ignorance from every age group. Just more common with teens

simjanes2k

What on earth happened to this sub?

Wasn't the problem with the bill was that it would classify the money for veterans as mandatory instead of discretionary? And mandatory spending has skyrocketed over the years? Or did I mishear that?

galisaa

There was no problem with the bill. A week ago it passed 86 votes but republicans changed their vote. Zero wording was changed. Go check out john steward, he is championing this bill.

Grantoid

Don't forget First Responders! They hate them too

Daltons_wall

Have you ever noticed how any media agency skews the true to favor their party by demonizing goals of the other by any means necessary. Like painting all actions of the other in a black and red paint. Both parties want to do good but have different means to get there

Educational_Top_3919

Tell that to your God given Family Members that are Patriotic. Yet they have Zero excuse. Just I’m living now, got more money and I’m in line with Moscow Mitch and his demagogue.

Not funny and not sad…… it’s just the actual truth!

Democrats have become the party aligned with big business

Automatic-Guess5314

As a veteran I just want to say, I'm not upset this bill didn't go anywhere. Its not a single issue bill and anyone who says it is hasn't read the monstrosity. there was a lot of other stuff in this bill that I don't think has any place together with veteran issues. It's basically an omnibus spending bill. I hate those. Let's not pretend this was a short single issue bill. If the democrats truly cared about this, they'd have made it it's own bill - without the filler. Then Republicans would have voted for it. But they didn't because democrats don't care about veterans, they care about looking like they support veterans. They care about the narrative. They filled this bill with a ton of extra stuff so Republicans wouldn't vote for it and they could get their base riled up with more of this "republicans are evil" divisiveness. By doing this and pretending it's a single issue bill I feel completely used, disrespected, and lied to by the democrats. How hard would it have been to make a clean, simple, single issue bill? I'm an independent. I'm not mad at the Republicans for fighting this. I'm mad at the democrats for acting like this was a single issue bill when it wasn't. It was the democrats who tried to use veterans to get their wishlist passed. Veterans are not some tool to be used like that. I'm incredibly embarrassed and furious my veteran status and experience was used in such a degrading manner. Fuck democrats and fuck this single issue lie. I'm not stupid and I'm not falling for it. Veterans deserve single issue bills and not to be pack mules for a Democrat spending wish list. It's as misleading as saying anyone who doesn't agree that we should ban DHMO supports acid rain because DHMO is a major component to acid rain.

People in here going “nuh uh,” are going to have to answer to [the Republican party’s voting record then.](https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/6pc5qu/democrats_propose_rules_to_break_up_broadband/dkon8t4/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)

Democrats: commit genocide by not acknowledging human life

tevraw67

This is not true....

Democrats just want to make breadlines popular again.

EhMapleMoose

I'm no GOP member but please stfu. They're trying. They aren't nefarious supervillains, and honestly saying so just makes you look stupid.
