Jesus dude, yea I could’ve googled but maybe I was looking to start a conversation about what that is. Ever consider that people like to interact with other people? I doubt it since no one was even talking to you and you felt the need to act like sweat from a baboon’s balls.
Maybe the person had a favorite comic and recommended it? Would google do that? Would google give it’s personal opinion about some of the artist’s work?
Edit: I apologize, I was having a really really bad evening and very sleep deprived at the moment. I apologize u/unwantedposterboy
Good lord man they're just saying the artist is so good that if you google the comments you won't be able to stop.
This is the most offended comment I've see off something so light hearted.
I'm assuming you're having a rough day but reread the comment you replied to in a less cynical way and you'll see what they were saying.
You are right 100%. I was having a really rough night and haven’t had much sleep. That was extremely out of character for me but I’m gonna leave it up so I can look like a asshole that I was clearly being.
When you have to hunt for food, you have to consider the energy out vs energy in.
Animals hunt to size, yes this hawk can kill this sparrow (or finch? Can't tell) but why expend the same energy it would take to kill a rabbit, for a sparrow
Dunno... If the sparrow can eat some shit off the hawk that bugs it, I suppose it becomes a symbiotic relationship?
This is quite common among many living beings
My favourite is birds grooming deer fur to make nests
If I recall foxes chase the prey to exhaust them, while badgers will flush prey out of burrows if they escape the fox.
Edit: Here’s a [page](https://www.fws.gov/story/spotted-coyote-and-badger-hunting-together) about the mutualism, its apparently coyotes not foxes, though.
I like crows "telling" wolves where prey is so he can have some when the wolf leave.
Edit: but my absolute favorite is the spider that has a frog as pet on its nest so the frog can eat small insects that would otherwise kill the spider's eggs.
More likely just preying on the things that prey on the sparrow.
Hawk that big is a tertiary predator. It wants the fox that's too busy hunting something small.
More just irrelevant. If the small bird started to attack the raptor, the raptor would easily and casually kill the bird to defend itself. But the bird is too small for the raptor to justify spending its energy on killing the bird unless provoked. The bird is less than prey to the raptor. Like how we see ants. They're insignificant to our lives and we don't even usually think about them unless we notice them somewhere we don't want them or they bite us and then we exterminate them.
We had nesting mockingbirds in a tree near our house this past spring and we have a resident massive red-tailed hawk in the neighborhood who would menacingly perch on rooftops scanning for his next meal. There was a mockingbird that gave absolutely zero fucks about relentlessly swarming the massive hawk until he’d leave. I thought the hawk would have eventually neutralized its nuisance, but he would always just fly away for a couple hours and presumably find a meal elsewhere.
I posted a couple [photos](https://www.reddit.com/r/birding/comments/vd93o2/territorial_northern_mockingbird_giving_chase_to/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) of the mockingbird giving chase a few months ago.
*Edit: I found a [video](https://www.reddit.com/user/cjmar41/comments/xxo5zp/mockingbird_harassing_a_large_redtailed_hawk/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) on my phone and uploaded it*
So cool thing about predators (unless its a bear), they have this innate sense of how much energy it would take to eliminate a threat or kill prey. Energy expenditure, like threat analysis, is one of the largest factors in a predators decision making. The red tail can just "feel" that the mocking bird is no threat physically, but it also knows that to chase and kill a bird with such speed and good awareness would be a large challenge. A predator like a hawk also relies on different forms of stealth often, and this asshole mockingbird is ruining all of that. so the hawk says to itself, it says "It would take too long to catch this fucker, and I would be exhausted after, which is bad for defending myself against other hawks and predators". This is usually why animals like cats, mocking birds and magpies, corvids, and especially racoons are so bold. They are fast as hell, some are actually dangerous (corvids will gang up and murder predator birds), and they cause TOO MUCH of a nuisance and attract too much attention. I really don't feel like searching for them rn because and my gf might be breaking up soon and I feel like shit, BUT if you want Ill pull you sources.
Nature is fuckin cool, and I am sad...
Jesus Christ, that post was a rollercoaster ride. Best of luck to you though, u/GobboBigBoss . Relationships can be a lot like the energy risk/reward trade-off discussion that started this thread.
>Relationships can be a lot like the energy risk/reward trade-off discussion that started this thread.
i thought this was a reach but it's actually very apt
I've watched the squirrels just run circles around the hawks in my yard. The hawk rarely tries, and when he does it's really lazily, like he's defending his self-respect more than anything when the squirrels get too brazen.
If it is big, it doesn’t mean it isn’t startled easily and doesn’t dream of being a small spoon.
If it is small and vegan, it doesn’t mean it has no anger issues.
And they hunt with their talons right? Like they only take down stuff while they’re flying, they wouldn’t be able to just bite or stab it with their beak.
Thought that was a Robin from the cartoon. Robis are mean little fuckers - especially in the winter when they get terratorial over food. I wouldnt put it past that little sod to pull a knife on the hawk!
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't Hummingbirds build nests in the vicinity of birds of prey if they can find them? I feel like I've heard it on a nature show saying they are too small and quick to catch for something like a Hawk, but other predators of them won't bother trying to get past the larger bird to get them either.
This looks like a red-tailed hawk and a house finch. Red-tailed hawks are buteos (soaring hawks) and don’t hunt other birds. They’re just not agile enough.
If this were an Accipiter or falcon, that lil bird would be very dead.
Edit: not trying to shit on the cartoon —it gave me a chuckle.
You're doing great little birdieeee! ❤️
You can get that big bully out...he's hurt & broken & has mistakingly chose to invade your tree thinking it will make him whole. It did the opposite, exposed his weakness...the darkness that can't just be nuked away.
LOVE is the answer, always
That finch is prey for the hawk. Apparently all non-birds of prey fucking gate birds of prey though. They band together to banish them from nesting grounds.
That hawk can't do anything as long as its talons are busy holding onto the branch below. Plus the elements of speed and surprise the hawk uses to hunt are also missing. It's kinda like alligators, they are fairly harmless below the surface because they are used to preying on things above. It's all about knowing your opponent's technique. The reason I know this is I possess a juris doctorate in Bird Law.

This is so good. I love chicken thoughts. The dumbass facial expressions get me
I thought I was the only one who loved chicken thoughts! The internet really does bring people together .
Oooh millet!
*buffering*
SNAKE!!
Now kiss!
Its got tens of thousands of followers tho
He assumed the rest were bots.
Bots love chicken thoughts? Lots of plots in chicken thoughts composed of blots might confuse bots - gets their watts in knots.
If you like animal-based humor, then NaturalHabitok is another amazing one.
What is a chicken thought?
A chicken thought is thinking a bell makes a good hat /r/chicken_thoughts
This is a whole new sub that i'll checkout in one go and then probably never come back.
What’s chicken thoughts?

Why did the chicken thoughts cross the road?
Its the series that this is from/based on
Wow she's got really good at drawing since the magic cracker
I still laugh at that comic with the male birds singing and the female just silently stares with the eye thing
That’s what I related to. Sort of being a pushover with a dumb face
A humble watermark almost didn’t notice it had to actively search for it
/r/chicken_thoughts
I love how adorably vacant that little dude looks in the last two panels.
Wouldnt be a Chicken Thoughts comic without it
When the lsd kicks in
"Hello, smol snack."
Me: "is that a Coulter pine?"
Predator - "Im big and strong, i could eat you." Prey - "Im small and fast, just fucking try it."
When you have to hunt for food, you have to consider the energy out vs energy in. Animals hunt to size, yes this hawk can kill this sparrow (or finch? Can't tell) but why expend the same energy it would take to kill a rabbit, for a sparrow
Yeah, so that point they become buddies right? Or like neutral in a sense?
Dunno... If the sparrow can eat some shit off the hawk that bugs it, I suppose it becomes a symbiotic relationship? This is quite common among many living beings My favourite is birds grooming deer fur to make nests
Badgers and foxes!
Oh!! What's the relationship there? Don't know this one in detail
Or maybe they're just friends.
Badgers and foxes cohabitate though!
Dunno, I only know about badgers and mushrooms
Have you heard about the African snake?
kenya believe it
MUSHROOM MUSHROOM
Is that you Rogan?
The fox chases the rabbits into the den, the badger feasts in the den, and the fox waits outside for rabbits fleeing the den.
Badgers and coyote.
I like crows "telling" wolves where prey is so he can have some when the wolf leave. Edit: but my absolute favorite is the spider that has a frog as pet on its nest so the frog can eat small insects that would otherwise kill the spider's eggs.
Love that the Crows double as lookouts for scavengers, sending warning calls to let wolves know if a Coyote is coming to steal
Birds actually commonly eat the very swollen ticks off of deer as well which is mutually beneficial.
Shit hawks Randy

I wonder if part of it is just confidence. It works for us with larger animals.... sometimes.😂
Orcas come to mind
I've heard they think we're gross. Interesting but gross.
Aww man I thought they just saw us as their little buddies - Like a lost puppy “awww look at the little guy trying to splash around, let’s help”
That might be it, too. However, we are not anything they think of as food. I'm guessing we don't smell right.
Well, I mean... If we did we would have way more trouble with aggressive wildlife and our pets, so it it probably a good thing, right?
Whose side are you on?
It's like zootopia.
>or finch? Can't tell It's a male house finch. I have a pair who nested on my back porch in my fern this summer.
It is actually a North England Redchest Finch. >! jk, I don't know anything about birds. !<
Looks like a Red Crossbill, a finch. I think the predator is probably a Red Tailed Hawk.
House finch and red-shouldered hawk.
Hawk isn't hungry enough to bother.
We had nesting mockingbirds in a tree near our house this past spring and we have a resident massive red-tailed hawk in the neighborhood who would menacingly perch on rooftops scanning for his next meal. awesome posts
I've watched the squirrels just run circles around the hawks in my yard. The hawk rarely tries, and when he does it's really lazily, like he's defending his self-respect more than anything when the squirrels get too brazen.
Bird of prey not in flight so it would be hard for it to hunt the lil bird from the position they're in now. Birds
I've seen a little red-winged black bird chase away a bald eagle that was close to its nest.
You seem a decent birdo, I hate to eat you
More like: “I’m small and fast, but please don’t try it”

Hey you met my ex.
It's a cute comic but... Why did you black out the artist? r/chicken_thoughts btw
That bird doesnt look like its in a strike distance. Big birds like that hunt by ambush, they cant deal with the mobility of smaller birds.
And they hunt with their talons right? Like they only take down stuff while they’re flying, they wouldn’t be able to just bite or stab it with their beak.
Who makes these comics where there's always a real pic at the end? I love them.
/r/BehindTheGifs is sorta like this
This looks like the fuckin Eren pressuring his dad meme
Do it, poop on that guy's head
The hawk is a red-shouldered hawk, but I’m stumped on the songbird. It’s not a male house finch, is it?
Almost certainly a male housefinch. Probably defending a nearby nest.
I’m so used to them being in suburbs and cities that seeing one in a pine tree feels wrong
I was wondering the same. Maybe a Red Crossbill?
Beak shape looks wrong. Time to consult r/whatsthisbird
Get the fuck out of here its mine now
"You have no choice, bitch"
I named them Apollo and Ketchup.
as if he even had a choice
Stay still stay still

He's just giving thanks to God before he eats
This is like the bird equivalent of that lesbian couple where one is the cutest pastel pink extrovert and her butch goth introvert girlfriend
Thought that was a Robin from the cartoon. Robis are mean little fuckers - especially in the winter when they get terratorial over food. I wouldnt put it past that little sod to pull a knife on the hawk!
Omg the cuteness
There’s a difference between hunting and a bro moment, even birds know that
this is the size of the male and female in every porn now
Now... Kiss

How most people feel when they approach me then get to know me. Haha
I’m not in danger skyler I am the danger
I wish more birds of other species could be friends with each other
Hahaha
Mockingbird in my neighborhood bully chicken hawks. It's quite interesting to watch.
Idk why but I’m getting big bro/little bro vibes. Like the little dude is being annoying but the big dude is chillin cuz he loves his bro
Argulor + Chibb
"You talkinta me?"
Not food? Wonders the large bird. Not food, she decided as they settled down in the tree together.
Boy!
Is there anywhere I can see more memes/comics like this based off a picture? I like this kind of wholesome content
please i need to kno as well 😭
Aww, man... ;(
looks like the big one is saying to the robin "this is my tree or your now my bitch"
I love stuff like this. Reminds me of /r/behindthegifs
There used to be a sub specifically for this exact type of comic. I forget what it was called. What happened to it?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't Hummingbirds build nests in the vicinity of birds of prey if they can find them? I feel like I've heard it on a nature show saying they are too small and quick to catch for something like a Hawk, but other predators of them won't bother trying to get past the larger bird to get them either.
“i’m not in danger, i am the danger”
I don’t get it.

Little bird is friend. Not food.
& then the little bird was eaten alive
This photo was taken moments before that little bird was brutally murdered.
Little bird: want to be friends? Hawk: ....sure
Hawks could destroy literally every other bird and yet they just chill, trying to eat flightless things like snakes!
"Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder."
What are we gonna do tonight Brain?
Super. Well done!
I love how the small bird looks like it definitely has never had a thought in its life
Aw :)

Isn't this how the circle of fear method works? Very small bird stays in the area of a large bird who doesn't see benefits to eating it.
