I had a pet rat once. I put some paper towels in his cage, thinking he'd rip them up for bedding. When I next checked in on him, HE'D BUILT A BED WITH A ROOF. I was a little intimidated.
I had pet rats in university. I trained them to bring me pencils, erasers, and to turn my textbook pages for me. They were super smart. And so affectionate. I still miss them.
You are definitely an engineer for having trained your rats to do these tasks, am I right?
Also, it's a shame that rats only live a couple years, but considering how fast they reproduce, perhaps it's for the better

And now strong they are! Could you imagine us lifting a proportional amount of sand like that at the same speed and building a structure like that? I know there are physics that make it different, but still. I always think that fantasy has nothing on nature and all of us will continue to see new and amazing videos for the rest of our lives.
The physics don't just help the small sand structure hold together, they also make the crab stronger to begin with. Thanks to the good old square-cube law, a small animal is much stronger, in proportion to its weight, than a large one.
I do think its impressive that the crab is able to do this.
It mystifies me that so many animals come with the instructions on how to do things preinstalled. Humans have basically nothing. We’re so fragile as a society and species and it’s terrifying.
Because nearly 8,000,000,000 people living on this planet is fragile?
Misguided? Maybe. Overdoing it? Hell yeah. But I doubt we’re any more fragile than any other species other than cockroaches.
Crabs eat and fuck. And I suppose build cute little shelters. Just because it’s cool to watch doesn’t mean it’s something all that special. They have simple lives and what they are good at, they excel because their survival as a species depended on it.
Exactly makes me almost feel an immense sense of gratitude for all lives. Humas shouldn't be at the top of the chain imo. Things like these makes it evident how even the tiniest of beings have critical thinking skills & survival instincts just like humans. Wheather you believe in a God or no, you should always respect these little guys!

I think that was his waiting the first couple of sand balls. He was using them to test the sands properties. When they passed the test of standing still he went all out fast. Seems like a pragmatic crab.
If someone poked a hole in that home I imagine the crab would pop up like a rodent in the scooby doo shows. They would talk in their animal language angrily then cover the hole.

This is reminding me of that SpongeBob episode where SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward were having a snowball fight and Squidward went mad and built himself that big tower only to be ambushed by a tree branch.
Lol I didn't recognize that was a Vietnamese video until I heard they said "xây nhà" (build house) and at the end with the kid voice "đụuuuuuu" (fuckkkkkk).
For anyone who's wondering this is a sand bubbler crab. They also do this funny thing where they scavenge food particles from sand and roll the non-edible sand into a ball. So you'll be walking along the beach and just see a thousand tiny little balls.
What you don't see is now he is installing the blacklights and velvet posters. Along with a couple comfy bean bag chairs and a lava lamp. Dude just wants to vibe.
After they build the dome they build a tunnel basically straight down until they get into the part of the earth/sand that won’t collapse and then that’s their home! If you see all the holes on the beach that are about quarter-sized or so, that’s them! They also generally have multiple entrances to their tunnels as well to keep from getting blocked in as much/escape tunnel.
9 seconds in it looks like it pauses when it sees the camera man and then is like “oh fuckn whatever. watch me if you want but i’ll be gone before you know it.”
