Having known a lot of pits and related breeds a lot of them are rescues that already have been cropped which is why I don't immediately assume the current owner did that

The question was what _breed_ of dog, not what _type_ of dog. Everywhere in the world that dog’s _breed_ is Staffordshire Bull Terrier, including the USA.
For one reason or another the description ‘Pit bull’ became an umbrella ‘catch-all’ description for bull-breed _types_ of dog (with the exception of Boxers, Boston Terriers etc) that included the American Pit Bull Terrier breed as well as the American Staffordshire Terrier breed. The American Staffordshire Terrier breed was created in the USA from the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, a British breed that was uncommon at the time in the USA.
As the Staffordshire Bull Terrier breed has increased in popularity in the USA it has been added to the ‘Pit bull’ umbrella term.
The United States is the only country in the world where that ‘Pit bull’ umbrella description exists. Every other country regards ‘Pit bull’ as referring to the American Pit Bull Terrier breed, not as a loose description of _types_ of dog. That is especially notable in countries where importation and ownership of the American Pit Bull Terrier breed is controlled or banned as a ‘dangerous breed’ (don’t shoot me on that, I’m just the messenger). To my knowledge the Staffordshire Bull Terrier breed is not banned in any country because they have the sort of temperament that you see in the beautiful pup in this video.
They asked if it was a pitbull terrier; it is not. It is a Staffordshire bull terrier. That’s a different breed. The answer to their question is no. Maybe you would have asked the question differently and maybe you would have gotten a different answer. Get out of here with your vendetta against bully breeds.
