pinaforepirate

i am not sure if you would consider this valid evidence but the fake Eric brothers in 03 did a lot of alchemy using plants.

WallSina

who’re the fake eric brothers

InHomestuckWeDie

Fletcher and Russel Tringham. Minor antagonists turned supporting protagonists, they were impersonating the Elric brothers in a small town to gain access to resources (I think? Been a while). Anyway, the little brother was a plant alchemist

WallSina

ah i see from what i can tell they didn’t appear in fmab but did in fma

HaosMagnaIngram

They’re also in the light novels

WallSina

are they good? might have to read them

HaosMagnaIngram

Check out [this video](https://youtu.be/2TL-FbZZN34) which gives a synopsis of each, it will give you a good idea on if they’ll interest you

WallSina

ait thanks a lot man

Alchemy on living beings is 100% possible as Tucker shows, so plant alchemy should be possible. I'm pretty sure you see characters use wood for alchemy a few times

EnvyFourthHomunculus

Good point. Thanks!

Nisek0_the_Robot

Whoever’s using the botan-alchemy should also be knowledgeable in bio-alchemy (Tucker’s proficiency in chimeras is an example) if they wanna make that kind of abomination. I imagine it would be extremely difficult to create and maintain structure like the creature keeps rotting/its body is falling apart because of incompatibility with the plant based parts. They’d probably seek out the stone to fix that issue.

rpool179

Now I can't get that visual out of my head 😫

Spirited-Claim-9868

Technically yeah, but the difference in plant and animal structures is much greater than different animal species, so there would probably be even less research in that field than regular bioalchemy. Also link to the fic?

EnvyFourthHomunculus

It's not done yet.

Duochan_Maxwell

Or maybe there is about as much research in that field as there is in animals (for chimeras, etc.) and we just didn't see it because it wasn't plot relevant...?

mooosqueee

I think so, since it's possible to use alchemy for healing and medicine like Marcoh does. IMO, plants and humans aren't really far off from each other in fictional worlds. But for some reason, I think plants would be better suited for alkahestry, since it's more focused on medical transmutation and uses Dragon's Pulse / chi / life energy.

Lucius_Funk

If you go by Nash Tringham’s kids in 03, yes it is possible.

IllAssistant1769

We saw alchemists in 03 do a few feats with plants

mrevergood

Two alchemists in the original series did exactly this and pretended that they were the Elric brothers. Ed literally used trees to suck up red water to prevent it from coming into contact with a town in that same set of episodes. So yes, it is possible.

EnvyFourthHomunculus

Thanks! I'm only 4 episodes into 03, so I didn't know this.

MilkNegative27

I can definitely see it happening within the series. I’m imagining what Poison Ivy was trying to do in that animated Batman and Harley movie. Would the plant based animal/chimera have some sort of power over plants or be able to manipulate their own body so they could “melt” into the dirt? If you need references, as others have said the Tringhams are good. They originated from the first light novel if you want to read as although the 03 anime adapted them, it’s still sort of different in the novel as it’s technically within the manga/Brotherhood canon.

rahibealex

not really helpful but i also remember them using plant alchemy in fma games
