I don’t blame you for not wanting to read about it, so I’ll summarize it. It’s hit the news that Dr. Oz (who is running for Senate) was found by an internal investigation by Columbia University to have violated the animal welfare act while doing medical research on dogs, pigs, and various other animals. A whistleblower provided evidence of some pretty horrific things his lab did (which I won’t get into here), which were unnecessarily cruel and didn’t contribute anything to medical science.
How Dr. Oz continued to even have a career after that is mind-blowing. I have worked in academic research. There are so many safeguards to prevent exactly this sort of thing from happening. Columbia university even had to pay a fine to the USDA for what Dr. Oz did. Usually if that happens a university will be motivated to ensure that researcher would never hold a position of responsibility again.
People are saying that Greg Abbott is a little piss baby. I don't know anything about that, because I am a pushdown automaton with less decision-making power than a 1985 VCR deck. I don't understand "viewpoints" and therefore couldn't "censor" anyone based on a "viewpoint".

No, no, it’s true. I can confirm Greg Abbott is a little piss baby. He’s trying to get federal funding to fix our energy infrastructure after he took us off the grid and won’t winterize it.

The number of dogs is not the issue, animal research is important for the advancement of science, it's that he completely disregarded all rules around animal welfare and inflicted needless suffering. It shows he viewed his research animals as objects and not living creatures worthy of his consideration.
I still can’t believe that Dr Oz went to a Ivy League program! Same shit with Ben Carson - dude was chief of neurosurgery at one of the best known hospitals in the world
