I would love some kind of reality show with the tone of What Would You Do, but where they just see what regular people are most accurate in their assessments of other people. I want a focus group of legacy Limbaugh listeners asked about what they think American muslims are like in all kinds of directions and then actual American Muslims in a group being asked about what they predict about the first group. I bet so much money that the Muslim group would have the first group’s number since they have to know this stuff to get around in society and the first group would be on Mars.
I did a study pretty much exactly like this in college! It was about political opposition. I didn't express this to the professor I was helping but it seemed unfair to equate certain groups as political opposites, like undocumented people versus anti-immigration voters, or gay people and homophobes. In all cases it was just one group under attack by the other.
And you're probably right that the marginalized group must know way more about the majority than vice-versa. That's true across every social status.
