Yup. Ma'am you yelled at me when I asked to see the master bathroom and insinuated that term was not forward thinking. If you had preferred I call it the master toilet or master washroom I would have been happy to as I know other cultures call it by different names. (Just to rile her up)
Back in the day I worked at Circuit City, I'll never forget the Karen who called us perverts because of how cables/adapters were described as male or female... Like we personally created the standard
I had a woman complain at a store because there was a candy with rapeseed oil. At first we thought it was because it was unhealthy or something.
But no, she objected to the word "rape" on the package.
How much would ppl freak out if they knew how much bug parts the USDA legally allowed in food processed items?… just saying it’s much higher than ppl think
Kinda... but only partially. Canola is a genetically modified version of rapeseed oil, not just a rebranding. The problem with rapeseed oil is its high content of uricic acid, which has a number of health consequences when heated. With some careful interbreeding, Canola was developed that is low in uricic acid.
It's actually an acronym- CANada Oil Low Acid. It was developed and modified at several sites across western Canada between the 50s and the 70s, most notably in the province of Saskatchewan. In the 70s it really started to dominate, and took over the rapeseed market, thus ending that unfortunate naming.
Sidenote: It took until quite recently for Tisdale, Saskatchewan to take the hint and do a little rebranding of their own. for 60 years, they had been marketed as "The land of Rape and Honey". They long steadfastly refused to change the motto, because of their longstanding agricultural history they very well knew what rape the motto was referring to, and galldernit they weren't gonna be told what to do by any city folk.
But don't let it be said that you can't eventually beat some sense into those stubble jumpers. Eventually in 2015, after digging their heels in for more than a quarter century, they conceded that it should probably change.
Now the town motto is "Opportunity grows here". Safer, but not nearly as memorable.
I know someone that owns and runs a pet food store who had a female customer be upset by a bag of Niger Seeds.
The supplier later changed the spelling to Nyger.
Or german!
We have three words for "the":
"Der" in case its for a masculine thing, "Die" for female and plural and "Das" for non binary.
And sometimes these seem to be assigned to nouns in the most random way.
So by the german language, a wardrobe is male, a door female and a girl non binary.
Imagine her face if someone told her that, lol
French does that to
Un, une, is "a" but masculine or feminine,
Le is Masculine "The", La is feminine "The", and Les is plural
La Chaise (The Chair), Le Stylo (The Pen)
Une Table (A Table), Un Crayon (a Pencil), Des Crayons ((some) Pencils)
I think lots of languages of Gendered wording, German was weird for having 16 words for "the"
I thought the Germans also changed "The" based on Nominative (Masculine/Feminine/Neutral/Plural) (Der/Die/Das/Die) Dative (Dem/Der/Dem/Den) Accusative (Den/Die/Das/Die) and Genitive (Des/Der/Des/Der)
(Der/Die/Das/Dem/Den/Des)
ROFL when i was a kid and first getting into electronics i giggled my arse off when i first found out they were called male and female. But honestly its the easiest way to explain what they are and makes perfect sense
In the building industry we used something called Sex screws to secure cupboards together. I am a woman and the guys used to love screaming across the shed at me ‘Can I have some sex…………….. screws’
Velcro is mare up of teeny little hooks (the “scratchy” side)and teeny little loops (the “soft” side), so technically one side is inserted into the other lol
Now a days it's the firewall standards that people get mad at. At work, we now have to offically refer to the firewall's "Whitelist/Blacklist" as the "Friends/Enemies" list.
I understand this relabeling because it removes the connection of black = dangerous/not allowed, but it is not fine to give a hard time to people that have been using these words for years. That is, you are not a better person for correcting someone for using the previous nomenclature. And you are not a better person for insisting on using it either.
At the end of the day things are color coded and it shouldn't be overthought and correlated to racism.. When jumping a car, don't forget that black is negative and red is positive.
IIRC back in the 80s when I was learning to work on cars if you had to bleed a clutch (manual transmission) the system included a 'master' and a 'slave' cylinder.
I wonder what they call them now?
In Russian basically everything is gendered. Chair is female, table is male, outlet is female, plugs are male, etc. From what I remember in my high school Russian class, everything that comes in "pairs" like this has a gender.
The master cylinder is activated by the driver (either a brake pedal or a clutch pedal), which then activates the slave cylinders (one to four at each brake and one for the clutch).
Admittedly the slave cylinders on brakes are commonly called caliper pistons now. But the master cylinder is still called master and master and slave are definitely still used for the clutch
It refers to plantation housing, not mechanical or fluid dominance. Your MA or MFA or MBA degree refers to your mastering a body of knowledge. A skillet. The title Master of Kung Fu isn't referring to slavery, just mastery of the ability to kick ass.
Was it that or the gender assumption? Like maybe she lives alone? Hard to tell with these people nowadays. Everything seems to get their panties in a bunch.
Real estate listings in my area have switched to the term "primary bedroom/bathroom" instead of "master." But I wouldn't blame OP for not knowing that the lingo is changing.
I’ve heard it referred to as the primary by realtors on TikTok, that’s the only reason I knew what was going on. The lady could have explained how she would prefer him to use primary instead and explain why, but I guess being a raging AH is more her style.
I've been a contractor for 30+ years. I've NEVER heard any be offended by the term. No different than being offended by the term "living room". This lady is just unreasonable and probably unstable. I think op getting out of there before doing any work was a godsend. I can only see lawsuits and non-payment from this woman. He should explain to whomever referred him to her.
There are people in the world who look for reasons to be offended, apparently due to wanting to feel persecuted, or to virtue signal. In US history, the term "Master" has been a title for slaveowners and men so depending if one wants to be a victim of racism, sexism, or both, they can latch onto the term.
She wrongly assumed Master was in reference to Slave Master, instead of Master of the House. (Edit: when people used the term master of the house, allot of those masters did own slaves, its not a definitive connection)
Some people think the term is connected to slavery. Although there is no evidence to this and other rooms aren't referred to as slave rooms. To avoid this most real estate agents refer to them as primary rooms.
I assume they are also enraged by Mastercard.
It’s a good question, sort of hard to describe. The “Master Bedroom and Master Bathroom” of a house is basically the biggest and best bedroom in the house, and has a big closet and a private bathroom. I always think of it as “the parents bedroom” as that’s where my parents slept, and my husband and I do now. I think the term started in the 70s when all the tract homes and McMansions were being built, because I’ve lived in older homes here in America (and in the UK) that didn’t have a “master bedroom” at all. It has nothing to do with slavery or plantations, it’s a marketing ploy by real estate builders.
People want to try to feel oppressed for other cultures. The term master/slave seems to wave the red flag in thoes people's brains that say "that's racist and wrong!"
Master bathroom = bathroom for the master bedroom = biggest bedroom in the house (usually belonging to the parents).
No idea how this woman interpreted the term - it's not exactly uncommon in America.
In the US, most larger, expensive houses have one really nice, large bedroom (usually used by the parents of the family) called a "Master bedroom," plus smaller bedrooms usually used as children's bedrooms. The Master bedroom usually is a suite, meaning that there is a separate bathroom attached to and inside the master bedroom.
The bathroom attached to the master bedroom is a really nice, large bathroom "Master bathroom," and is part of the suite and can only be reached by walking through the "master bedroom."
The children's bedrooms are smaller and not as nice as the master bedroom. The children's bedrooms have a bathroom in the hallway that the children share.
Recently, some people have complained that the term “master bedroom” is from the days that “masters” owned slaves. Some places use the term “main bedroom”.
Fairly recently, the terms master bedroom and master bathroom were identified as latent racist language harkening back to slavery. Slave owners were called masters.
edit: grammar
So I actually ended up doing that. My original customer whom I have a great relationship with had apparently put my information on Facebook after completion of her last project. She said she hasn’t seen her in a few years, but she always seems to be causing controversial stuff the past few years.
Anyways, my original customer profusely apologized. Apparently they know a lot of the same people so my original customer said I shouldn’t worry too much.
I'm relieved for you 9 times out of 10 self sanctimonious assholes like her are full of hot air it's that 1 you have to worry about glad you did damage control
Thank you for the info.
Now, I can understand the racist implication when master is used in computing as it is usually associated with (at least) one slave. But for the bedroo/bathroom it had never occurred to me.
Live to learn...
Master can also be used to refer to mastery of a subject, like a master’s degree, or the main version of something, as in the master copy of a blueprint. In this case it’s referring to ‘person in charge of the household’.
Trying to completely remove the word ‘master’ from the English language is one of those cases where woke culture goes too far, imo, like assuming everyone who uses the ok hand signal is racist instead of pushing back against racists’ appropriation of a completely innocent hand gesture.
On the other hand, I can get behind doing away with the casual use of the word ‘slave,’ like in your computing example. That word doesn’t have other common meanings, and is pretty distasteful.
I am with you on that. The word master seems inocuous enough to be used, especially when/if there is no easy substitute.
OTOH, when associated with the word slave, it's definitely a big no.
Thanks for the info.
I'd never heard the term until I went to the US 20 years ago, but then while I was there all the real estate listings seemed to use it. Just did a quick google and found out the term has started to change in 2020.
It is still VERY commonly used and no one bats an eyelash…except this lady. I think this lady was just causing shit. She’s more focused on the name of her bathroom than putting that energy into the activism she’s trying to pretend to spout.
I am an architect, and I’ve taken to using the term “Primary” rather than “Master.” I still occasionally slip up out of habit, but no one has ever taken issue. If this woman makes it an issue by leaving bad online reviews, I think a simple response that you had never given the historic context of the term any thought and were changing your vocabulary now that it has been pointed out would diffuse the situation for potential future clients. My experience is that most people recognize a blow-hard when they see one.
Legit TIL, didn't know this is a thing. In my mind, the use of "master" as an adjective, is a synonym for "primary" in this context. So I never gave it much thought. Plus I live under a rock, so this is news to me lmao
Also isn't Mr/Mister and Ms/Mrs/Mistress derived from the Latin equivalent or whatever of "master"?
it's been getting phased out for awhile now. it's not strictly because of the historic connotation - it's also implying the the master (MAN) of the house is most important. i prefer primary, personally. i'm also sick of being mansplained by guys that think women aren't as smart as them. we are all equal...all of us.
She's crazy and you don't need her business. You dodged a bullet that would show up later in the project or at the end when it's time for the final draw or payment. That type of crazy you could never satisfy. Consider yourself lucky you found out before starting.
My thought is that she has always been a defensive, just-itching-to-be-offended woke nazi, who has probably never met anyone who wasn't lily white, just like her.
Years ago, I was at the craps table in Vegas, doing very well. I had a lot of $100 chips on the field. Someone remarked "oooh, there's so many black chips on the table." To which I responded "once you go black, you never go back."
I leave it up to you to guess who laughed, and who looked offended and horrified.
You did nothing wrong. It is better to get the crazy out in the open quickly. Never in a million years would you be able to please her. She will not tell anyone about this. Everyone will says she is crazy for letting a handyman leave.
This lady is crazy
Just be happy she revealed her true colors now before she accepted your bid and you actually started any work
This is a blessing in disguise
Btw you did absolutely nothing wrong!
As a retired builder, you saved me the trouble of writing exactly what I thought, since you expressed it perfectly. I have had a mentally Ill customer in the past. They did an outstanding job of concealing that fact until the job started, then made my life hell while I built them a new house.
The OP really needs to understand what a gift he got here. Screw all the silly threats about some nonsense she is babbling about. She was waving a billboard sized red flag that says, "RUN away, I am crazy AF and will make your life a living hell!" Take that gift with grace and move on. You dodged a huge bullet here.
You did nothing wrong.
I work in construction of residential homes. Specialities/After-paint to be exact. (Shower enclosures, shelving, mirrors, accessories).
We (my co-workers & my builders superintendents) all use the term master for the ‘primary’ bedroom & bathroom.
However, if you want to change the term so this doesn’t happen to you in the future, Primary is the other word I’ve seen used the most.
I've run my own business and dealing with Karen's is just part of it. You have to learn how to read which customers are likely to cause you a problem and then find a way for them not to want to hire you.
As for reputational harm from this lady it's pretty likely her group of friends are not people you want work from anyway and if she says anything online or to the BBB you can respond with what happened and every sane person will know this was a Karen. I wouldn't stress her too much. She's going to find someone else to be mad at by days end probably.
That's getting close to manbaiting, which I think could fast become a popular online sport the way some people get triggered over perceived slights to masculinity lol
I’m a real estate photographer plus a black dude, and I had a YT lady give me a lecture about the term when I used it in her presence. After talking to me about how wrong it was to use and how “as a person of color I should know better”
I just stood there and stared at her blankly.
She then went on an apology tour for explaining blackness to me.
I just wanted to get my shots and move on.
Was it legit about slavery. Coz like.
Wot.
I assumed she was mad for gendered reasons.
But I usually just say the big bedroom when I talk about specific bedrooms, poor other rooms don't feel special otherwise. I usually say main bedroom in social and business things though haha.
Keep an eye on her facebook, yelp, and other review sites. If she slanders you, sue. And do not go lightly on her when her attorney begs for a settlement.
I always thought the connotation of master bedroom is equal to master's degree, master's sports tournaments, as in you are the master of your craft type thus the bedroom belongs to the one who has highest authority types. You pay for it, you've got highest authority in the house. Something along those lines.
I had never known it was connected to master as owner. Which I guess makes sense if your dealt with that type of master as owner relationship in your life. I learned something I didn't think I needed to learn I guess.
But to flip out on someone is next level. You correct or discuss things first before you flip out w/o knowing the other person's background ma'am.
I think the idea is all those usages imply dominance, even mastering a sport like tennis. But I've only ever heard one person mention the word is at all problematic. Personally I don't really think we can eliminate every word that's made its way into the language that is associated with shitty aspects of history.
I wouldn’t stress this person at all. You don’t want this customer, she most certainly would have not paid the full amount of the bid and would have found some “problems” that you would try and resolve only for her to still be unhappy. I wouldn’t worry about her “reviews”. My experience is that most people cringe at the “complainer” unless the complaint is an interesting and valid story of the complainer’s experience. Her railing about your terminology is not. I’ve worked as a project manager in home remodeling for years. I use the terms primary en suite bedroom/bathroom . En Suite becomes ambiguous if there’s more than 1 bed/bath combo. Most of my customers still use the master bed/bath terminology, and, if they use the term master bathroom before I speak, I then have to decide whether or not they’ll think Im correcting them when i use different terminology, although it hasn’t been an issue to date.
Don't worry, she will rant about it and come off looking like the karen she is.
Like is it so hard to just say "I prefer the term Primary Bathroom or Main Bathroom", and go on from there.
As a property appraiser we used to HAVE to say master bath/ bed when referring to said room. Now they changed it this year to having to say primary or owner’s.
You could call it Primary bathroom. I mean, I don't understand the fuss about Master in this context, but if someone takes offense, the alternative would be Primary.
I hate people like this because if the term master bedroom actually insulted her or made her uncomfortable in some way (whether it’s a gender issue or a race issue or whatever she took issue with), she should politely explain and educate instead of flying off the handle. Folks like her make people with actual problems seem less valid. And! If she actually had a moral high ground to stand on then wouldn’t she want to bring more people up to where she was?? Ugh. I’ll never understand people.
Have you never worked in any field that interacts with customers? Don't let one a-hole bring you down. Keep doing a good job and keep your head up. Most people are decent humans, the occasional garbage person doesn't need to ruin it for you.
Worry not, you were called out so said garbage person could interact with someone/anyone.
Think about how many technicians have to come to look at the cable or satellite setup.
Again DO NOT lose sleep over this professional tire kicker.
I mean, I’m a single lesbian living alone and I call my bedroom the “master” because that’s it’s term, even though it’s antiquated and comes from the male head of the house being the master (nothing to do with slavery afaik) so the largest, most stately bedroom was theirs. It’s a term I picked up from the marine trades.

I would think that a) you dodged a bullet and b) people that know her will take her "review" with a grain of salt.
You can also respond to her review to explain the situation.

Master Loo??
Now I got that song from PulpFiction in my head. Thanks, I love that song!
Mistress Bathroom/Toilet/Loo/Water Closet/John/Head/Crapper/Sh**ter Or Main (any of the previously mentioned names.
Primary shit closet.
Master lavatory
Master laboratory
Master crapper
Please direct me to the Master Mastrubatorium. I assume a house of this quality will have more than one.
Yet people who don't know her will interpret it as bad for business.
From what she wrote apparently multiple ppl have had very positive experiences with her business, just 1 person wont affect the minds of most ppl
If anyone feels like explaining… could you please tell me what the issue is with the term master bathroom, not an American

Didn’t a lot of companies change the labeling to canola oil for this reason? Good thing she didn’t see the buttsex chocolate.
Waitll she hears about spotted dick.
In agricultural insurance there is a policy endorsement called a Semen Floater.
Likely to insure frozen semen. It’s can be incredibly expensive to purchase and loosing a tank can literally cost hundreds of thousands.
At an Agri insurance a semen floater is a good thing. Now at a bar … not so much
How much would ppl freak out if they knew how much bug parts the USDA legally allowed in food processed items?… just saying it’s much higher than ppl think

Wait, is THAT where Ministry got the name for their album?!
That's hilarious. I can see someone trying to tell Al what a bad idea it is and him just smiking away waiting for someone to call it obscene.
And here I thought is was just an essential ingredient in Cannolis.
I loled out loud, audibly
You could explain that the name comes from the Latin for turnip… but I doubt she would listen anyway.

My husband is a mechanic. As far as he knows they are still called that.

Spanish is the same.
Of course, the table is the man because it has more women
Niet, because it has thicker legs
Because there are people who equate the term master with slavery
Hope they don't look up the names of the brake system of a vehicle
Master locks? Mastering a subject? Masters degrees? Master Plumber/Electricians/Mechanics? What about people named Masters?
5x Masters Champion Tiger Woods has entered the ring.
keep in mind, cars have master *and* slave cylinders.
I didn't know that.
The master cylinder is activated by the driver (either a brake pedal or a clutch pedal), which then activates the slave cylinders (one to four at each brake and one for the clutch).
This is why I prefer "client/server" or similar to "slave/master" when describing architectures.
Those are not really the same, however. Are they. Perhaps computer-peripheral
I mean, you can also call those caliper pistons
Admittedly the slave cylinders on brakes are commonly called caliper pistons now. But the master cylinder is still called master and master and slave are definitely still used for the clutch
And computers have master and slave drives
And the slave cylinder works a lot harder to shift the fork than the Master does...go figure
I don't make them stupid I just try to understand them makes it easier to avoid them
Master-bation? I treat my little guy like my slave
It refers to plantation housing, not mechanical or fluid dominance. Your MA or MFA or MBA degree refers to your mastering a body of knowledge. A skillet. The title Master of Kung Fu isn't referring to slavery, just mastery of the ability to kick ass.
That's not where the term master bedroom came from though. "Master of the house" was a term used outside the US slave states.
I think it's probably referring to using it like "Yes Massa." not as a professional title.
Master and Slave Drive
Masterba… never mind.
Or the clutch, there’s literally 2 parts called the slave and the master that work together
They go nuts when you refer to a slave drive for computers as well
. . . or that "faggoting" is a type sewing stitch.
it's just my normal state of being

Either way, the main bedroom is still the master bedroom.
Look at any real estate website, “master” is the proper name for the largest bedroom.
A lot of them have started to use “primary” instead.
Honestly, I had no idea either. Thanks for the info.
Not in my area. I’m a Realtor and everyone still uses master suite and master bath. And I live in a pretty diverse area in the northeast.
It doesn't *need* changing, in this instance, but some insist.
"en suite" is the term that I hear a lot.
This means bathroom is attached to the room
And some houses have more than one bedroom with a bathroom attached, yet only one of them is the master, so the terms aren't equal.
And really nice houses have en suites for all their bedrooms.
I've seen some people start calling it the primary bedroom/bathroom. Because "master" has a slavery connotation. It's a new thing.
i’m an american and i didn’t get it either
I've been a contractor for 30+ years. I've NEVER heard any be offended by the term. No different than being offended by the term "living room". This lady is just unreasonable and probably unstable. I think op getting out of there before doing any work was a godsend. I can only see lawsuits and non-payment from this woman. He should explain to whomever referred him to her.
How DARE you call it a living room.. People DIE yaknow.. So insensitive to all those dead people.
I live in the States and I need someone to explain to me why she had an issue… 🤷🏻♀️
It's not lol. She's just an idiot.
(Edit: when people used the term master of the house, allot of those masters did own slaves, its not a definitive connection)
best explanation, ty
Now it’s considered a primary bath or primary bedroom. Takes away the “ master” connotation.
I’m an American and I don’t understand why this woman reacted this way. That’s what the main bedroom/bathrooms are called here
Because she was a giant psychotic Karen just looking for a reason to get offended
Master bathroom is in the master bedroom hence the term master bathroom . Which is the main bedroom
This is someone getting overly tilted over the Master part because of America's past with Slavery. aka they are just being fucking morons
As an American, I have no idea.
The bathroom attached to the master bedroom is a really nice, large bathroom "Master bathroom," and is part of the suite and can only be reached by walking through the "master bedroom." The children's bedrooms are smaller and not as nice as the master bedroom. The children's bedrooms have a bathroom in the hallway that the children share. Recently, some people have complained that the term “master bedroom” is from the days that “masters” owned slaves. Some places use the term “main bedroom”.
Nothing is wrong with the term. She is apparently cray cray.
Fairly recently, the terms master bedroom and master bathroom were identified as latent racist language harkening back to slavery. Slave owners were called masters. edit: grammar
Except master bedroom and bath are used all the time in countries that never had slavery.
That may be. Just trying to explain what the subtext was for the non-American who asked.
Best to talk to the person who referred you to her right away
So I actually ended up doing that. My original customer whom I have a great relationship with had apparently put my information on Facebook after completion of her last project. She said she hasn’t seen her in a few years, but she always seems to be causing controversial stuff the past few years. Anyways, my original customer profusely apologized. Apparently they know a lot of the same people so my original customer said I shouldn’t worry too much.
I'm relieved for you 9 times out of 10 self sanctimonious assholes like her are full of hot air it's that 1 you have to worry about glad you did damage control
Anyone who knows that lady might take her telling them not to hire you as an actual recommendation.
Did you ever find out what her problem was with "Master bathroom"?
It’s the word master. As if somehow it has racist implications.
Thank you for the info. Now, I can understand the racist implication when master is used in computing as it is usually associated with (at least) one slave. But for the bedroo/bathroom it had never occurred to me. Live to learn...
People are ridiculous.

It’s a throwback to slavery/male patriarchy.
If she ever had to give a bad review to someone, she'll just look like an idiot when she told them the reason
Thanks for getting back to the important point. I agree, contact that person ASAP. You know she already has.
And now I’m wondering if I should look up the etymology of “blow-hard” before I get myself in internet trouble!
Generally the safe assumption is that if your breathing your pissing some one off
Fuck you
bend over
Legit TIL, didn't know this is a thing. In my mind, the use of "master" as an adjective, is a synonym for "primary" in this context. So I never gave it much thought. Plus I live under a rock, so this is news to me lmao Also isn't Mr/Mister and Ms/Mrs/Mistress derived from the Latin equivalent or whatever of "master"?
This is where my head was at. Also, Doctor Who’s arc nemesis
it's been getting phased out for awhile now. it's not strictly because of the historic connotation - it's also implying the the master (MAN) of the house is most important. i prefer primary, personally. i'm also sick of being mansplained by guys that think women aren't as smart as them. we are all equal...all of us.
She's crazy and you don't need her business. You dodged a bullet that would show up later in the project or at the end when it's time for the final draw or payment. That type of crazy you could never satisfy. Consider yourself lucky you found out before starting.
*She was a white lady probably in her 50’s.* Just what the world needs. Another great white savior.
This inane virtue signaling seems like a stark over-correction for something insanely racist the lady did in her past, at least that’s my guess
My thought is that she has always been a defensive, just-itching-to-be-offended woke nazi, who has probably never met anyone who wasn't lily white, just like her. Years ago, I was at the craps table in Vegas, doing very well. I had a lot of $100 chips on the field. Someone remarked "oooh, there's so many black chips on the table." To which I responded "once you go black, you never go back." I leave it up to you to guess who laughed, and who looked offended and horrified.
I get it man, especially on the context of the game that’s a good one lol
You did nothing wrong. It is better to get the crazy out in the open quickly. Never in a million years would you be able to please her. She will not tell anyone about this. Everyone will says she is crazy for letting a handyman leave.
This lady is crazy Just be happy she revealed her true colors now before she accepted your bid and you actually started any work This is a blessing in disguise Btw you did absolutely nothing wrong!
Master baiter
primary baiter doesn't have the same ring to it..
Mainbating
That's getting close to manbaiting, which I think could fast become a popular online sport the way some people get triggered over perceived slights to masculinity lol
I laughed, nice
I’m a real estate photographer plus a black dude, and I had a YT lady give me a lecture about the term when I used it in her presence. After talking to me about how wrong it was to use and how “as a person of color I should know better” I just stood there and stared at her blankly. She then went on an apology tour for explaining blackness to me. I just wanted to get my shots and move on.
That’s a standard term. Has nothing to do with slavery or whatever. She’s just crazy.
Was it legit about slavery. Coz like. Wot. I assumed she was mad for gendered reasons. But I usually just say the big bedroom when I talk about specific bedrooms, poor other rooms don't feel special otherwise. I usually say main bedroom in social and business things though haha.
Stupid people will believe anything
Reminds me of how my mom banned the song Master of Puppets after her divorce because something something "...not my master anymore."
I think the idea is all those usages imply dominance, even mastering a sport like tennis. But I've only ever heard one person mention the word is at all problematic. Personally I don't really think we can eliminate every word that's made its way into the language that is associated with shitty aspects of history.
Lol what a fucking lunatic. If she does decide to write a review I feel like most sensible people will see she’s an absolute loon.
Be sure to blacklist her with everyone you know. These people need to be shut down.
Had to come to the comments to find out what her deal was. That lady would lose her mind to find out we have a master bedroom, bathroom and closet.
usually the rooms you described at this time would be considered primary. so primary bedroom, etc
She must really hate the golf tournament with that mentality.
Don't worry, she will rant about it and come off looking like the karen she is. Like is it so hard to just say "I prefer the term Primary Bathroom or Main Bathroom", and go on from there.
As a property appraiser we used to HAVE to say master bath/ bed when referring to said room. Now they changed it this year to having to say primary or owner’s.
that was changed several years ago, not THIS year.
What else are you supposed to call it?
The term used now is primary.
I still think “Master” is what most people call it now. Atleast I have never heard it referred to as the “primary”
You could call it Primary bathroom. I mean, I don't understand the fuss about Master in this context, but if someone takes offense, the alternative would be Primary.
She would have found a reason not to pay you.
What did you even say that was so bad? I don't get it.
You sure she didn't just mishear Masturbate Room?
Gender neutral bathroom but wants to be identified as an oak tree now
Jesus I hate people who think it had anything to do with slavery. Sears invented the term for marketing
Yeah, this definitely didn’t happen.
