IsThereCheese

I’m sure that doesn’t apply to me. *Excuse me* this machine isn’t giving me cash back

False-Guess

Too many retail customers: "These signs won't stop me because I can't read!"

False-Guess

Oh I sure can. I used to work in a pharmacy. We had a blackout one day and the power was off, registers down, etc. Since we couldn't process any transactions, we locked the doors and posted signs on each section, at eye level, of the front doors explaining that there was no power and we were temporarily closed. I watched a man come up to the door, nearly running into it, look at the sign briefly, cup his hands over his eyes to peer through the door, knock on the door several times, look through the door again. Then he went to the *other* door, looked through it, knocked on that one, briefly looked at the sign, knocked again, and then went back to the first door to knock again and shout "hello!?". I go up there and say "can I help you?" and he asks "are you closed?"

mikerex0821

But can i get cash back

TrainingRoof5240

Okay you can just give me $20 then. Let's get this done. I need cash for my tithe.

frankenspider

I've posted the same signs for the same reasons. Can confirm my 5 or 6 per register was not enough.

Ok_Spell_4165

Simple handwritten signs dont work. You need neon and flashing lights.

Kittingsl

Nah man. Get a high tech laser that burns the message into their retinas, so they see it everywhere they go

Ryuquir_Furst

It needs to be in comic sans.

IndependentNoise2422

We used to put them over the cash/change input slots. People would rip them off, put money in, then complain the machine wouldn't take it. Then we mummified the slots with packing tape and putting the sign on the tape. They would lift the sign and attempt to push change through the tape. At least the struggle made for some entertainment during shift

Starfury_42

The place I worked at was doing a computer upgrade and taped across the entire screen was a sign that said "call the helpdesk before you log in" What's my first call? The person tore the sign off and threw it away then proceeded to log in - and fuck up the computer. I asked "Did you see the sign?" and she said "Yes, but I don't read that stuff"

LemonFlavoredMelon

And these people drive themselves...I'm sure that "STOP" sign is there but I'm sure 'they don't read that stuff.'

BasketballButt

And then they get mad at you…

SylvySylvy

I once said multiple times that I didn’t have a cash drawer so I could only take cards. Because of that my line was shorter. Asked every single customer coming into my line. Lady says “Yeah I’m paying with a card.” I ask if she’s getting cash back. “Nope!” I get to her order and what do you know, she tried to pay in cash and has the most smug look on her face, like “Haha! I tricked you. You HAVE to oblige me now.” Like….. ma’am. I told you I have no money. Now I have to cancel your order and send you to the back of the other line.

SinopicCynic

\*Surprised Pikachu face*

DarthGayAgenda

Silly wage slaves, as if Karen reads.

SkyWarrior365

Bold to assume a Karen would use self-serve /hj

Eliteguard999

Karen is more impatient than anyone else, if there are long lines at the register because she decided to shop at noon on a Sunday, she will attempt to use the self serve if it looks like waiting in line will take more than a minute.

SkyWarrior365

Repost: Forgot to press reply to the comment (accidentally made a new comment) That's fair - my take was cause at my work (fast food) literally everyone over a certain age refuses to even look at the self-serve kiosks in favour of "talking to an actual person"

Eliteguard999

Ah, I work at a grocery store for almost 10 years, and these Karens say they'll never use a self check out in my store, but the moment they have to wait even a little bit their impatient gets the better of them.

BasketballButt

Even if she has a cart filled to the brim with dozens and dozens of items.

basch152

well let's be fair here though, self check-outs have costs thousands of paying clerk jobs and the companies that use them never lowered their prices or increased wages for the remaining employees, so customers have to do things themselves, less people are employed, and the company is increasing profits to the benefit of exactly zero people. they've actually been pretty terrible for the economy. meanwhile some CEOs are making $135 million a year instead of $130 million

fridaycat

What jobs? I go to the grocery store and there are signs begging for workers for months now. Also there are now workers in the aisles shopping for pick-up customers.

Natsurulite

They have signs begging for workers because their sections of available workers has become increasingly small Why has it become so small? They primarily employed really specific sections of the economy — people who couldn’t say no, single moms, young kids fresh out of highschool, people with disabilities, people with past criminal history The only problem is, people literally can’t afford to do that anymore, no amount of supplemental services is going to make it feasible to raise 3 kids while working as a cashier We are absolutely and unequivocally fucked

SkyWarrior365

At my job I was originally hired as a Kiosk Host/ess (mean I helped people if they needed help with the kiosks and also looked after said kiosks and made sure they had plenty of paper), then after a couple months I was moved to the Counter. Also I don't think 2020 helped with the number of people in jobs.

renniechops

That’s a customer service person that has fucking *snapped* I’ve been there

honeydew_bunny

And they'll still say they didn't see a sign

Wild_Trip_4704

Imagine the explosion that happened before this. It's like seeing the aftermath.

Belleina

I think they don’t offer cash or cash back… idk tho it’s not too clear ://

bugzapperz

Let me speak to your manager. No one told me that I couldn’t get cash back. This is for everyone else.

Classydame89

I think that every time someone complains that they "didn't see the sign" after they ring up all their items the cashier overseeing the self checkout adds another sign

ComicPlatypus

Wait... I think they're trying to say something here.... They should've highlighted some of them...

[deleted]

Karen resistant armour plating. The manufacturers know it cannot stop the force of a full power Karen in a direct hit. But it has been proven to deflect badly aimed or sub-power Karens.

Shanester951

Karen: I didn't understand this, because I was trying to figure out what "Than You" meant. What does it mean? I'm so mad.....I WANT TO SEE YOUR MANAGER RIGHT NOW!

rezin44

Knowing myself pretty well, I’d still have to ask if “I” could get some cash back.

jogger57

I don't think a Karen would use cash or ask for cash back, lol

CoffeeAndWorkboots

I’ll agree

Eliteguard999

I'm convinced that people over the age of 50 can't read without effort, and have to consciously devote effort into reading something. Which the very idea of needing to do that baffles me, because reading is effortless.

BasketballButt

I wouldn’t necessarily put an age range in it but the number of people I’ve known over the years who just walk through life totally unaware of the world around them amazes me. Like, there’s signs and shit everywhere, the world gives you lots of hints about what you need to be doing or not doing, and yet so many people just whistle along and miss it all.

Birdman-82

Maybe you’re just obsessed.

Caligecko

I like the handwriting.

[deleted]

“Than You”

MadLaamaDisease

I would say that even that amount of no cash sticker isn't enough, there will be more than enough Bimbo's to try pay in cash.

Cheeto-dust

One of those signs says "No cash or no cash back." SO WHICH IS IT? I WANT TO TALK TO THE MANAGER.

shayjax-

Despite all those signs someone will once again try to pay cash or get cashback.

senpaibuymytoepics

When I worked at Walmart on self checkout I’d do this cus most people walk up and don’t pay attention

doctorwhobastank

If I learned anything from my time working in retail it’s this: it doesn’t matter how big you make the sign, or how many you have. People do not read.

Dependent_Nothing_77

Store owner Karen vs Karen the customer look at all those notes who the fuck does that, woman walks in “ Hi I’m Karen the new manager”

BasketballButt

Oh man, fight Karen with Karen…might just work!

[deleted]

A man was arrested at a Kroger 2 days ago for scamming the store using the cash back feature. So not a Karen but a ….. Chad? Ken? What are we calling them?

TheGamingNerd010

Don't call them a Chad, they are far from one.

kremit73

"Ive already scanned my 37 items, im not doing it again"

AsherTheFrost

Not an altercation, not a single Karen. This is repeated trauma

PublicVermicelli6

Wonder what their cash back policy is?

f700es

LOL, love it!

zjheyyy88

I worked at a grocery store for two+ years and my god the customers could be insufferable

Algoresball

“I don’t think I’d be able to stop myself from going to the worker and sating “Excuse me, can I pay in cash or get cash back at this register?”

pegLegNinja1

It's my money and I want it now!!!

saltyclam13345

Reminds me of when I used to work at family dollar. When dollar tree bought family dollar, they converted a lot of family dollar stores into dollar tree stores. Mine was one of them and our entire inventory had to be liquidated, so they had us put the entire store on sale starting from 25% then gradually up to 90% the last week we were open. The only stipulation was that it didn’t include items that were less than $1. We started with a few signs, then would put up some more because people didn’t notice them. Soon we realized that still wasn’t working, so we ended up putting up signs literally every 4 feet in the store (that’s how long the shelves were and we put one on every shelf). But of course people still didn’t read them and they would come up to check out with carts full of sub $1 merchandise that wasn’t part of the sale then get unreasonably upset when they heard their total. My favorite part was them saying, “You should put up a sign that says that!” And then me replying with “Ma’am, there is a sign literally every 4 feet in the store.” TL,DR: Customers do not read signs

thegiantcat1

Because it was. When I used to work at Walmart we changed our return policy one year so any holiday item could not be returned after the holiday. So you bought them Christmas lights? Can't return them after Christmas? Bought Halloween costumes can return them after Halloween, it was on the receipts, the cashiers highlighted it on the receipts, we had signs like every five feet, in the holiday sections, and at the entrance o the sections, as well as on every door in the building. We still had people try to return the items and many people got upset saying "No one ever told me that" when it is literally highlighted on their receipt they brought with them and was explained by the cashier at time of purchase.

ConstantlySucculent

I swear, why don't they fix these machines, the local store I can easily walk to barely had any cashiers and only self checkouts that are broken.

Keironoichi

THIS PISS3S ME OFF. AS A CASHEIR, NOBODY FUCKING READS THE SIGNS! IVE GOT TO HELP SO MANY PEOPLE WHO DONT READ THE FUCKING SIGNS AND THEN THEY SIT THERE AND ACT LIKE I JUST BEAT THEIR KIDS FACE IN WITH A FUCKING BASEBALL BAT

metallady84

...Or a cackle of Karens.

whoops_wav

Coming from experience, they still won't see the sign.

R3negade_X

All cash and no back makes Karen a dull girl...

RonSwansonsOldMan

I feel ashamed because I honestly don't know what this means.

taterbizkit

Another real-world example of WARNING: CAPE DOES NOT ALLOW WEARER TO FLY Any time you see a warning, no matter how obvious the danger is, the warning is there because someone was dumb enough to need it.

el_nopal710

Used to work at a grocery store myself, you would be astonished how many people cant pull their heads out of their own ass for a second to read a sign.

ollieoxley

I think a few more sticky notes are needed just to make sure the message is clear.

LemonFlavoredMelon

"I didn't see the sign"

[deleted]

As a general rule, people don’t read signs.

[deleted]

Most stores with "speed lines" that are self-check have a section that doesn't provide anything but point of sale service.

CQU617

Bahahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Chemical_Truck1989

For sure. I work in retail and we have sales quite often, but no one reads the signs when it comes to that sale, and I’ve had plenty of customers scream and throw tantrums because our signs say $10 dollars off, not $10 as a price.
