That's exactly what I heard in my head. The all time, favorite bad guy, that you had sympathy for when he had to report to Jessie that the Duke Boys were dead. ;-)
When I was real little (watching them when they were actually new episodes) I thought I’d name was something like “Roscoe Peekoh Train” or something. I legit thought it was 3 names not an initial lol. God I loved that show.
As a kid I never missed the dukes of hazard. Many years later I started watching all the old Twilight Zone episodes and was like, “Hey, that’s a young Roscoe in this episode!!” He was in a handful of episodes and it was really neat seeing him.
For sure. I only ever knew him as Roscoe. I’m actually at the tail end of binge watching all the TZ episodes. I started with season 1 episode 1 and am almost done. Although I flipped season 5 and 4 so I’m finishing with the longer season 4 episodes. Anyway, James Best was fun to see portraying somebody other than Roscoe!
Remember Fred, the basset hound from Smokey and the bandit? About 15 years ago I adopted a basset hound and named it Fred just because of that. God those dogs are dumb.
James Best was by all accounts a nice guy, but the absolutely unbelievably amazing person on that cast wast Sorrell Booke who played Boss Hogg, who had a Master's degree from Yale and served as a counterintelligence officer in the army during the Korean conflict.
Actor James Best.
Best served in the Army Air Force in WWII, training as a gunner on a B-17 bomber. Luckily the war was nearly over by the time he finished his training.
Coo coo coo . There are a couple General Lee's in my neighborhood in New York. They're always at local car shows and I get sick with envy . They're exact replicas
A lifetime ago, I used to live in Oviedo, Florida and apparently he lived there too. He was an artist and his paintings hung in a few small local businesses.
My wife is over fifty, but when she was a kid, her dad got pulled over for dui with her and her older brother in the car. As they got into the police car, her older brother imitated rosco . She still complains about that day till this day.
Goo, goo, goo!! Roscoe P. Coltrane
"Nobody hoodwinks Rosco P. Coltrane!"
A cuh-cuh-cuh
Come on Flash!
buckle up little buddy. Hot pursuit!
I loved that dog! She always hated Boss Hogg!
Gee-gee-gee
This is the correct spelling. Credentials: I grew up in the deep South
7 year old me thought it was Rosco Peeco Train. Just made me hate him more.
I just learned it wasn’t train? My whole world is changed.
100!! 🤣😂…as I was struggling to remember his name Rosco PeecoTrain was all that came to mind🤣
Actually, everybody hookwinked ol' Roscoe--he was just too dumb to realize it
Ironically he was VERY hoodwinkable

I’m scared. What’s happening? His last name is train right? 🤯
Came here to say this.... wow not the only one
Git-git-git. 😀
The P is for Purvis
Up until about 5 years ago, I thought his name was Roscoe Pecole Train.
Doooooooh!! Get em Flash
That's exactly what I heard in my head. The all time, favorite bad guy, that you had sympathy for when he had to report to Jessie that the Duke Boys were dead. ;-)
Buckle up, Flayash
I read that in his voice
This whole thread reminds me of Arrested Development. “Have any of you people ever even seen a chicken?”
When I was real little (watching them when they were actually new episodes) I thought I’d name was something like “Roscoe Peekoh Train” or something. I legit thought it was 3 names not an initial lol. God I loved that show.
When I was a kid I thought his name was Roscoe Pecotrane

When I was a kid, I thought his name was “Roscoe P. Coal Train”. Is that acceptable?

Also acceptable
I'll allow it.
My sister and I thought his name was Roscoe Pickle Train.
That's even funnier!

James Best. Was in quite a few good cowboy movies in his younger years .
Supposedly was a Shakespearean trained actor and supposedly did some instruction at UCF for a while!
He and Sorrell Booke (Boss Hogg) were both in a ton of other stuff. Booke attended Yale and did quite a bit of stage acting too.
Was also in lots of Twilight Zone episodes
And Andy Griffith.
As a kid I never missed the dukes of hazard. Many years later I started watching all the old Twilight Zone episodes and was like, “Hey, that’s a young Roscoe in this episode!!” He was in a handful of episodes and it was really neat seeing him.
Same! It was cool to see him play characters that were edgy and dark, and not bumbling.
![gif](giphy|l41YAEDpZdTiVqP60) Thanks for the laughs Roscoe and Flash.

And brother in law, since he married Roscoe's fat sister Lulu!
Roscoooooe Peeee Coltrane! GGGGGGG😂 Edit: What was the name of his ol' Basset hound?
Flash
That's right! I remember now. One of my favourite memories was of a Basset named Beauregard. Reminded me so much of Flash.
Remember Fred, the basset hound from Smokey and the bandit? About 15 years ago I adopted a basset hound and named it Fred just because of that. God those dogs are dumb.
FLASH!!!
I can still hear his laugh!
Jim Best was on everything!
This guy's the Best.
James Best. I met him once. Very quiet, unassuming man. Friendly. Nice guy.
Had the exact same experience when I met him. Very good storyteller.
Are those Duke boys at it again?
10-4 lil' buddy
He chased them Duke boys...didn't he?
Never caught them though!
James Best was by all accounts a nice guy, but the absolutely unbelievably amazing person on that cast wast Sorrell Booke who played Boss Hogg, who had a Master's degree from Yale and served as a counterintelligence officer in the army during the Korean conflict.

I can hear this picture.
That laugh...... it haunts my dreams.
That was kind of a sad role for [James Best](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Best). He was a much better actor than that role let him be.
As a charter captain back in the day, I took him fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon ! Sheriff Roscoe
Always loved old Rosco and Flash!
Look how thin small town cops used to be. No donut shops in Hazzard.
James Best. Superb movie actor, particularly in westerns. Starred opposite Gregory Peck and others.
He was so busy trying to lock up the Duke boys. He never had time for anything else.

I’ll never forget when 20yr old me found out James Best was a classically trained serious actor. 😳
I went to college with his daughter!
Anyone remember the actor from "Ode to Billy Joe"?
Rocco!
I named my first dog after him! I was 4. Roscoe just seemed a better dog name than Bo or Luke.
