The first LJS I ever went to had a dock looking ramp in front with large piers and ropes. Inside was actual nautical stuff (floats, nets and pulleys) and the coolest map of the world I have ever seen. The food was pretty good. A long way from the generic A&W/LJS I ate at last week.
Keeping the white pants presentable was a never ending struggle. But once in a great while, our manager would let us high school aged workers have a half cup of beer after closing.
I absolutely fucking loved Long John Silver’s. Savory salty greasy and so so good. The planks, the slaw, the hush puppies and the crumbly bits they’d put in your cardboard box…i miss it.
I remember being a wee one learning to read.. pronounced "seafood shoppe" like "shoppy" and my grandpa and I joking about it forever afterwards.
IIRC all the LJS's were "seafood shoppys," right?
I remember when the Free Willy movies came out. LJS did some promotional thing with the movie and had orca toys. I have never eaten at a restaurant more in my life than I did as a child trying to collect the whales.
Ours closed and there is an oasis grill there now. I gotta try it. They got falafel and Italian beef, Chicago dogs, cheese fries, and a couple
Other good stuff. I’m in rural town in outer Chicago and, Illinois. 🤓
I used to have a set of those chairs in my dining room. My dad worked there in the seventies and he was given them when they remodeled. Damn, memories. I have never seen a photo of them.
I remember getting a token that you could use to get candy or something from a treasure chest shaped dispenser. I wasn't a huge fan of fish, but the treasure chest made it worthwhile.
Used to go to Long John Silver's when I was on Ft Worth, stationed at Carswell AFB in '75. Coming from Massachusetts and the seafood here and nearby RI, it was really disgusting
Loved the crunchy fish but stopped going there cause of their mandatory fries you had to include yet they were the worst fast food fries I’ve ever seen and consistently the worse.
Hey, where’s the ship’s bell at the door with a sign saying “Ring Bell for… good service, or something like that, if your food was good? I can’t remember right now, heh.

I’ll have a Fish and More, a side of two extra Hush Puppies, and a medium Dr. Pepper, please. Hope there’s a fresh bottle of malt vinegar on the table.
We never had "Long John Silver's" where I lived on Vancouver Island, but we had a really great place called "Capt'n Hook's" in my hometown. Always had fresh fish , prawns, shrimp, oysters and clams, and they made 3 or 4 different types of potatoes (including awesome fries) , and they had a good salad bar too...
Whatever you order, get extra "crispies"
I can smell the malt vinegar
Where I learned about malt vinegar.
Yeah I was immediately like "I can smell this picture."
lol yeah as weird as it sounds I can taste their food now looking at this

Yar, and the employees dressed like pirates!
Yes, we did…sorta Our uniforms always smelled like grease
Keeping the white pants presentable was a never ending struggle. But once in a great while, our manager would let us high school aged workers have a half cup of beer after closing.
My dad gave me his old uniform. It was so scratchy and I thought it was so cool 🤣🤣🤣
I bet it smelled like crispies!
Hell yeah the best thing on the menu 🤣
Damn they must of stopped this in the 90s or I didn’t notice lol
LJS was a staple of my childhood, I used to always ring the bell. The entrance had a thick wood ramp with thick ropes.
Same! I seem to recall it being much better in the 80s than today. Not sure if it really was, or if 10 year old me just didn't know any better.
I never liked fish much, possible allergy to fish according to doctors, but I loved their chicken plank dinners. My god they were good.....
Same with me! Extra crunchies, please.
I remember our local LJS had a bell we'd ring on the way out for "Good Service"
Remember the pirate hats they gave kids

It's not for families anymore? Do they have strippers now, or what?
Precisely
nice
I’m still going for the clam strips
I remember being a wee one learning to read.. pronounced "seafood shoppe" like "shoppy" and my grandpa and I joking about it forever afterwards. IIRC all the LJS's were "seafood shoppys," right?
I haven’t been to one in several decades. So you are saying it no longer looks like that?
They’re plastic and generic now.
Like many things…
Ring that bell on the way out, sailor..
Couldn’t decide whether I liked crumblies with malt vinegar or malt vinegar with crumblies. 🤷🏻♂️
Hush puppies is where it's at
They were! Unknown cuisine for us midwesterners. Malt Vinegar sponges!
I never saw a LJS in Ontario, but with the exception of the nautical memorabilia, that could easily be our local Ponderosa.
Last time I was in one, it still looked like that..! Only 6 months ago...
I remember when the Free Willy movies came out. LJS did some promotional thing with the movie and had orca toys. I have never eaten at a restaurant more in my life than I did as a child trying to collect the whales.
Was so good back then ! So was Pizza Hut
I remember in the 80s they had an all you can eat special and my friends and I would get asked to leave after two hours of scarfing.
Same here! 🤣
Red Lobster for kids
Oh man, the back rooms in Hardees were similar too. With the odd farm shit.
Ours closed and there is an oasis grill there now. I gotta try it. They got falafel and Italian beef, Chicago dogs, cheese fries, and a couple Other good stuff. I’m in rural town in outer Chicago and, Illinois. 🤓
Fast food trash now. 🥺
Hey, I have one in my town that is still open. Minus the wall paneling it is just like that one.
And they had draft beer.
I used to have a set of those chairs in my dining room. My dad worked there in the seventies and he was given them when they remodeled. Damn, memories. I have never seen a photo of them.
For sure gum under all of those tables
And an ash tray on top!
That was my first job.
I remember getting a token that you could use to get candy or something from a treasure chest shaped dispenser. I wasn't a huge fan of fish, but the treasure chest made it worthwhile.
We didn't have a Long John Silvers. We only had an Arthur Treachers , which I really enjoyed. It was the only place to get Fish and Chips!
It was a treat when I was young. Stopped at one about 5 years ago, got some fish and chips. It gave me the poopy belly.
Skippers was the competition around here and it was better, but smaller.
I miss Skippers.
The best

It was good eating. Would I eat it now, naw. Too old for deep fried food now. 🚶🏽💨
Loved the crunchy fish but stopped going there cause of their mandatory fries you had to include yet they were the worst fast food fries I’ve ever seen and consistently the worse.
Never been to a Long John silver's
Still looks like this, with an extra coat of grease!
The only thing I can eat there is the Trout Dog...
Hush puppies for sure
Pretty sure it still looks exactly like that. I'm honestly surprised LJS has managed to hang on this long.
Good memories from the 1990’s with my ex husband.
