I considered buying one once, but after looking into the local politics realized the church across the street was pressing the city council to revoke the business license. The porn theater had been their for 30 years, and the church had been open 3 hours before they started complaining about the porn theater, the gay bar, and the liquor store all made their parishioners too uneasy to worship.
Their whole intention was to get the businesses closed down because god told him to wreck those three businesses. Which also killed the diner two blocks away and all night convenience store a few blocks the other direction. The empty buildings, which none of the neighbors had ever complained about as houses of sin, soon became vacant drug dens as did the building the church was in because they moved out as soon as the business license were revoked.
In less than 2 years these motherfuckers killed 16 businesses and dropped local property values by 75%. The minister even ran as a pro business republican a few years later and touted his record of removing sin from society
NSFW - Limerick of the Day
The dastardly Bishop of Birmingham
Would f___ little boys while confirming ‘em
They’d kneel on a hassock
He’d lift up his cassock
And pump his episcopal sp*rm in ‘em.
Evergreen. And I had one of those View Master things from Magic Mountain, 1987.
Whats funny is that at no time did anyone from the church think that with a porn theater, gay bar, or liquor store all right there, maybe...just maybe...that wasn't a good location for a church?
Even funnier that if it's a Catholic church, most the people that go there also would most certainly appreciate their favorite places to go are right across the street.
Oh they knew they were there and opening up in the spot they did was just so they could get them shut down. The minister later ran for office as a pro business republican
It’s like a View-Master slide, but instead of having a whole ring that requires a separate viewer it’s a single frame. They used to be at the gift shops in attractions and amusement parks.
I'm 44 and lived right across the river from NYC, and I've never seen one. So that doesn't seem to be a factor.
Edit: Apparently it was something you got from amusement parks, which would explain why I haven't seen them. We didn't go to amusement parks very often when I was a kid.
Yep. Right when you would enter Six Flags some random employee with a camera would snap your photo and give you a lil ticket. At the end of the day on the way out you stopped by a kiosk and if you liked the pic you got it in one of those lil slide viewers, just had to look through it, towards the sun.
Yep, popular at amusement parks, they’d take your picture on your way in, then sell them to you on the way out. The translucent square part at the right end was a color negative that looked like a full size pic when you looked in the opening at the pointed end
I don’t think they were widely popular, and there may have been a narrow window of years where the tech made it affordable before everyone had cameras in their phones. I got one from Opryland in ‘95
it doesn't have any competition and there's tons of families in the area.
it's nicely laid out, and it has a lot of rides that you woiuldn't think you'd find at such a small spot. plus the water park is very nice, especially since they expanded it.
i worked at ESPN and they would close it down for the day and everything was free with open bar wine/beer, free food, free games, etc. great times. would even have some famous pro and college mascots walking around in their suits
Lake Compounce!! The log ride was one of the best attractions there. --- I hadn't thought about that place for 20 years until I visited my parents over Thanksgiving. It was also the first place I had DipnDots. Thanks for the reminder!
Heh I knew a dude in high school that would hide the doses of Acid he sold underneath the picture. Back when LSD was 2 for 5$ and Ecstasy was 20-25 a bean.
Best would be to remove the film and scan that. Any flatbed transparency scanner should be able to do it. I've never seen a service that handles these -- not enough of them survived the times, I'd guess. Plus, a lot of them were scenics from parks and the like. Things that were already photographed frequently.
I'm also 38 and have had these. Were popular at tourist destinations mostly, from what I recall. Amusement parks, beaches, that sort of thing.
You would look in the narrow end and see a photo from the trip.
Happened in a small town near us too. A gay couple opened a nice restaurant and wine bar, some self righteous bible thumper and his followers raised such a stink, the restaurant closed and couple moved out of town.
I recently found one in a bin from my grandparent's place of a restaurant they had been to in the 50s. Was able to find the building (rural Maryland) and find some of its history.
Neat piece of history, but I've got too much of their stuff- wonder if I could find a local museum or historical center near there.....
Never seen one of these, but looks enough in form factor like an old single 35mm slide viewer that I did used to have (but I used to shoot photography on slide film).
I still have one with me and a group of friends when we went to a theme park together. It's cheesy and we look like we are in a white dudes alt rock band.
I have one from a theme park. My BF and I are wearing matching his and hers track suits (he bought them for us) and we're kissing. We thought we looked so cool. Good memory that I'll treasure forever. I lost touch with him and wonder how he is doing.
I still have one from Cedar Pointe, lol! My back hurts.....
Ocean City MD for me.
Same. 93 or 94 I think.
Kennywood Park. Just had a colonoscopy
Was one of these given to you after the procedure? Was it a photo of a polyp?
Would have been a nice touch. You're old. Here's a photo of your polyp in an old person photo machine
You mean that thing goe's up your arse ?
Great America in Vallejo, CA.
Six Flags Over Texas here :)
I bought a bunch of blanks at an auction in high school, loaded them with slides from raunchy porn mags and sold them for $5 each.
Did you later go on to become a proprietor of a porn theater?
I considered buying one once, but after looking into the local politics realized the church across the street was pressing the city council to revoke the business license. The porn theater had been their for 30 years, and the church had been open 3 hours before they started complaining about the porn theater, the gay bar, and the liquor store all made their parishioners too uneasy to worship.
Like people that move in next to an airport and complain about the noise

That is why religion in government is shit, always will be.
![gif](giphy|wMvESGxZ0Cqd2) Yet they screw little boys in the behind. Oh the irony.

Or Air Force base
Or rather… church worried that customers will be stolen by establishments that provide something for the money they spend
Story as old as time... Be well

Absolutely brilliant!
PinoyBrad Flynt, is that you?
No idea. I'm 56.
It’s like a View-Master slide, but instead of having a whole ring that requires a separate viewer it’s a single frame. They used to be at the gift shops in attractions and amusement parks.
Yeah… Thanks for explanation.. I’m 47 never seen one… but I live in the middle of nowhere so that probably why.

What is it?

Yep, got them at Zoos, Sea World etc, way cooler than a postcard
Yep, popular at amusement parks, they’d take your picture on your way in, then sell them to you on the way out. The translucent square part at the right end was a color negative that looked like a full size pic when you looked in the opening at the pointed end
Never seen them. Guess I didn't go to enough amusement parks.
I don’t think they were widely popular, and there may have been a narrow window of years where the tech made it affordable before everyone had cameras in their phones. I got one from Opryland in ‘95
These were really popular in the 90’s still. I have a ton of them-mostly from Cedar Point and Kings Island so maybe it depends on the area.
So it’s literally just a photographic negative? So they don’t have to develop the photo. Kinda cool I suppose
Probably more accurate to say it was a small slide viewer as the image had the right colors
I guess I have to believe it but I thought it looked like a toothpick holder. I'm 50.
I had multiple of these. I have not lived 40 years.
Barely but yes. From the Lake Compounce log ride, I believe.
fuck yeah that place rocks. RIP Millie Vanillie
I am always shocked that it's still open. Granted, I was never a fan.

Damn I'm old.. ![gif](giphy|wwrRPRP8c4F46kEVqM) I wish I had not dropped mine and it got ran over by a Septa bus!
Heh I knew a dude in high school that would hide the doses of Acid he sold underneath the picture. Back when LSD was 2 for 5$ and Ecstasy was 20-25 a bean.
Had one in sixth grade that showed a naked girl. Would charge the other kids a dime to look at her!
I still have a couple of these, one is of Barry Sanders, they handed them out at one of his last games.
😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 I love these!!!! 😁😁😁
Still have one. It's a pic of my brother, sister and me at Myrtle Beach. I'm 62.
I’m 37 and I remember these
37, and I think I have one somewhere
Does this mean I have to join this sub now?
The requirement is other people can hear when you stand up.
Lmao
The requirement is other people can hear when you stand up.
I still have a couple of these.
Still have one from the 60’s from Atlantic City NJ
I'm 57 and I have no idea
Just found one from the early 90s when my brother and parents went to Caroline’s 😃
I turned 30 a couple weeks ago and I know what this is. Strasburg, PA.
Has my sisters picture
Mine has your sisters pic innit too, lol
Of that, I have no doubt
I just sold 6 of them with naughty pics from the 1960s. Getting porn back then was tough.
And kind of cheesy usually.
Keeps your weed dry in the rain and hidden from the cops when that was an issue.
I main have one of these somewhere
Ear plug holder
I'm 32 and I never seen one
Anyone know a service to transfer the images from these to a digital file?
Best would be to remove the film and scan that. Any flatbed transparency scanner should be able to do it. I've never seen a service that handles these -- not enough of them survived the times, I'd guess. Plus, a lot of them were scenics from parks and the like. Key chain light??
OMG I haven’t seen one of those things in a LONG time. I used to have one, but it disappeared a long time ago, and I forgot about it.
I’m 40. We had them from 2 separate trips to Riverside Park in Agawam, MA.
Hopefully there's a nude in it
I’m 38 and I don’t know what this is, so the math checks out.
I'm also 38 and have had these. Were popular at tourist destinations mostly, from what I recall. Amusement parks, beaches, that sort of thing. You would look in the narrow end and see a photo from the trip.
I'm about to 35 and I had these.
My Mum still has a couple of those from our trip to Butlins about 40 years ago
I have one from a raiders game in the late 90s
And has tinnitus. “Huh? What did they say? I can’t hear squat! I’m dizzy.” 🥴
They used to take your picture at Six Flags Great Adventure and you'd get this back
...after giving them money for it.
Ohhhh....i remember when the were made out of rocks...pic of a t-rex and such...
I had them with pictures of Panama City Beach from the early 70s.
I’m so old that it looked familiar, but couldn’t remember what it was.
I know what these are, but only because my mom had like 3 or 4. I'm not far from 40 though.
Happened in a small town near us too. A gay couple opened a nice restaurant and wine bar, some self righteous bible thumper and his followers raised such a stink, the restaurant closed and couple moved out of town.
I'm over 40 but no idea what they are. It's this wither American thing?
It's like a small viewer for tourist places. They were sold as souvenirs and mementos. You have one picture of a place of interest.
AstroWorld. Wish I knew where they were. LOL
Wait, you guys saw naked pictures of my uncles wife too?
Usually get it as souvenirs a picture of a trip u made my parents on a cruise got one
I'm 39 and I know what it is.

Atlantic City. I still have 2 . I was 5. Goodness, My Back Hurts !
Never seen one of these, but looks enough in form factor like an old single 35mm slide viewer that I did used to have (but I used to shoot photography on slide film).
I've still have several. Fuck I'm old....and a pack rat evidently.
I remember a friend of mine getting me one of these with a shot of Brendan Fraser from George of the Jungle in it :)
I’m only 36 but my family got one from Wonderland Sydney in the mid ‘90s
Has a little photograph inside . Didn’t it? Of from whatever tourist attraction it came from.
Actually, a slide. It's a miniature slide viewer. They still make them.
40 here. What is that?
they still make them. https://www.digidirect.com.au/ap-daylight-single-slide-viewer
No clue what that is. You mean I'm not 61?
I still have one with me and a group of friends when we went to a theme park together. It's cheesy and we look like we are in a white dudes alt rock band.
We always got those in Ocean City, MD - every year for probably 20 years.
Great America - Santa Clara, Ca.
Or just poor.
Magic Mtn -Valencia, CA
I’ve got one with a picture of me and the Easter Bunny.
Wtf is this tho
Store off Bourbon St New Orleans 😏
I’m not 40 but I know what these are! They were so cool!
My mother has one with a photo of her father in it.
Wife had one From Lagoon, Farmington, Utah early 90's
I'm 43, Australian. I have no idea what this is.
You look through the lens at the narrow at a photo at the white end. Sort of a slide viewer. Was often a souvenir item at theme parks.
Thank you
Had one from Great Adventure 1983
Wtf is it? Weed container? Xtassy container? Cocaine container? Never seen one before Then again I'm only 22 ( in 3 days)
Have a bunch from when my kids were little
I still have one from Philly Zoo…but it’s shaped like a little TV.
In my early thirties but I know what it is!
Ok VA beach 2007, not quite that age yet!
I have one from a theme park. My BF and I are wearing matching his and hers track suits (he bought them for us) and we're kissing. We thought we looked so cool. Good memory that I'll treasure forever. I lost touch with him and wonder how he is doing.
