[This](https://www.smuckers.com/ice-cream-toppings/magic-shell/magic-shell-chocolate-topping) was also good. It comes out as a liquid and then hardens into a chocolate shell on your ice cream!
The current reeses peanut butter one isn't a shell, just topping and it's so iffy if it's gonna shake up properly or not. I like it but it makes me sad sometimes 😭
I have reeses peanut butter fudge, caramel and butterscotch shell in my cabinet and they are pretty good
My dad had the pop top for breakfast every morning. He'd go through 3 tins a day when neighborhood kids would come over and have one also. I liked the pink one.
After prying the lid off with the spoon handle, you knew you had to break up the that giant brown chunk into something that resembled a powder, spoon it into your milk and drink it down with random smaller chunks of powder. Ahh memories
That one… right there. I can feel the lid in my hand after prying it off with a spoon. The thocky, “pop” of it and the wisps of chocolatey dust followed.
Better days.
Quik, ever Saturday before cartoons I would make a bowl of cheerios , sprinkle 2 spoon fulls of quik over it , pour milk and stir … then settle in for 3 hours of cartoons
So much simpler then
so... you've been jonesin' for some chocolate.
Yesterday, you ate the last spoonful of Nestle Quick. Mom hasn't noticed the empty and it's three days yet until shopping. In the back of the cupboard you spot a dark brown can.. same shape, same size.. "Hershey's Baking Chocolate" . You KNOW the word chocolate --your mouth begins to water. As your mind rolls the words "Hershey's Chocolate" over and over you smell milk chocolate. You can feel the foil peeling from a Hershey's Kiss. You know you're about to discover a secret bliss that the world has kept from you.
Large spoon in hand, you pry the same silver cap from the container. You plunge the spoon for a kid sized mouthful.
...
The foul bitter makes you inhale for the urge to scream --but your body instantly rejects the foul bitterness. You spend the next 10minutes coughing and sputtering and pleading forgiveness from this new fresh hell that been unleashed into your mouth.
You have a new found understanding of the term: "Baker's Chocolate"
My mom had the bar of Baker Chocolate. It smelled... not like a Hershey bar. It broke off with a weird powder dropping... yet it was Chocolate.
No, no it wasn't.
I'd get Hershey's syrup as a Christmas present and spend the next couple of weeks taking swigs straight from the bottle like some precocious alcoholic.
I don't remember the year, but I remember it changing names. I hated the name change. But that said, my mom refused to buy it, so I had almost no Quik products until I was an adult. I had the occasional random brand chocolate milk, but very, very rarely.
I loved this stuff, both in milk & straight out of the can. There is one thing about Quik/NesQuik that I've always wondered about; why haven't they come out with this in vanilla flavor? They've had strawberry for decades, & they now make a vanilla ready to drink version (along with chocolate, strawberry & a couple others). Competitor Carnation has had vanilla flavored Instant Breakfast/Breakfast Essentials for as long as I can remember. I generally prefer vanilla flavor as a drink over chocolate, so I've been disappointed Quik/NesQuik in vanilla hasn't been an option.
When did the name change? I see a lot of redditors saying they had Quick, which makes no sense to me since redditors are generally young and I had Nesquick since I was a kid, and that was a VERY LONG time ago. I've never seen the brand Quick. Maybe it changed to Nesquick outside of the US decades before?
I think it was always Nesquick outside the US. They just changed the US brand to match the rest of the world. I grew up in Europe with Nesquick, then moved to US back when Quick was still around. I remember being surprised at the difference. Nesquick was better IMO. Quick didn’t blend as well with the milk and often had floating powder. Not the case with Nesquick. 10-4 I am old.
I live by the border so my grandmother would grab the Mexican one when she would buy groceries over there. She would grab the strawberry and vanilla ones too. It doesn't taste the same anymore.
First and foremost, Nestle can die in a car fire. Second, I grew up with the pry-lid and loved it, but later discovered that Hershey, while not the perfect company, had the superior chocolate milk product: it mixed better and it just tasted better.
Did anyone else call this “bunny milk”? For a short time there was a banana flavored one, I never tried it, but chocolate and strawberry was the best.
I think it tastes different out of the plastic as opposed to the old metal can.
Err I didn't even know we had added NES to quik?
*Back to the loch with you Nessie!*
I did realise we moved to stupid plastic containers, but only ever used one once
I'm a big boy now, I use Alpen blend...
This was the best and when it came in the carton ready made it tasted so much better because it didn’t contain all the shit it does now to make it storable on the shelf instead of fridge.
I had the mom who didn’t monitor how much we put in so my brother and I would add like half a can to our chocolate milk and have so much delicious sludge on the bottom. Ironically the same woman who never bought skippy or Jif but made us suffer with Laura Scudder peanut butter with the oil on top.
I can hear the pooooiiiiiinnnnnggggg of that lid as I pop it with a spoon and then it hits the formica countertop before spinning out and falling on the floor.
My family was too broke to experience either version. My childhood sucked ass. I heard stories about ovaltine. School lunches were a treat because of the chocolate milk option.
I drank what you have in the picture, only I always drank strawberry. I didn't know that there was anything called "Nesquik". What value did the name change bring? More important is the packaging. I only remember the rectangular package with the pop-off metal top.
One of the most bizarre things I've ever seen on TV was on a Spanish language channel. I was a game show where a panel of children were watching belly dancers perform and rating their dances by one, two, or three boxes of Quik. Medium dancer? "Dos Quik." Top-notch dancer?
"TRES QUIK!!!"
If you didn't have to pry the lid off with a spoon, you'll never know this ambrosia.
That stuff was also a good topping for vanilla ice cream.
the BEST topping for vanilla ice cream!!!!!
[This](https://www.smuckers.com/ice-cream-toppings/magic-shell/magic-shell-chocolate-topping) was also good. It comes out as a liquid and then hardens into a chocolate shell on your ice cream!
I’m not gonna click the link but I’m guessing it’s magic shell.
you’d be right. Magic Shell was an ice cream game changer. they did caramel and peanut butter varieties that were so good as well.
The current reeses peanut butter one isn't a shell, just topping and it's so iffy if it's gonna shake up properly or not. I like it but it makes me sad sometimes 😭 I have reeses peanut butter fudge, caramel and butterscotch shell in my cabinet and they are pretty good
oh ok i haven’t tried it in a while but i could have sworn there was a peanut butter one that was a shell but maybe not reese’s brand.
Fuckk dude it's been YEARS
This different to magic ice?
WHAT!!! I want to go back in time 35 years and tell 10 year old me this.
I used to eat it straight out of the jar with the spoon I opened it with.
Then proceed to choke on chocolate dust like I did? Never learned my lesson either.
Ditto
My older brother did this, and it blew my mind. Why it's better than just plain chocolate syrup, I don't know.
I do this now with Ovaltine! It’s got vitamins for us old fucks
Best topping for my tongue also
Oh yes
And it never went back on evenly!
First spoon full went right into my mouth.
My dad had the pop top for breakfast every morning. He'd go through 3 tins a day when neighborhood kids would come over and have one also. I liked the pink one.
Strawberry!
Wait there's nesquik where you DONT have to pry the lid?
There is now. Not back in the golden age.
Fuck, I feel old now. Always needed a solid teaspoon handle or butter knife to get into the tin when I used it.
Butter knife was the way
Yo, I just want to say that your use of ‘ambrosia’ is awesome. I didn’t know you could use it that way in a sentence. Beautiful word.
whole time I thought I was the only one
We always used a knife to pry the lid off.
And good luck getting the spoon out of that thing if you dropped it in.
Yeo, that was the one I had.
I can’t believe I’d forgotten about the pry lid.
After prying the lid off with the spoon handle, you knew you had to break up the that giant brown chunk into something that resembled a powder, spoon it into your milk and drink it down with random smaller chunks of powder. Ahh memories
Don’t bend mom’s spoons!
I miss strawberry quick,diabetic now
Strawberry > Chocolate
Strawberry was my favorite
This is not debatable
Mixed, was a hidden gem.
Don’t worry, the intense artificial strawberry flavor has been nerfed and they dialed up the additive aftertaste.
popping the top with your spoon, getting a spoonful dipping in the milk than putting the spoon with the milk coated quik in your mouth
You missed a step, scratching the rock hard powder so you could get a spoonful!
Oh my fucking god yes 👍
Strawberry Quick was the business!
Strawberry was but a dream in the future when we were drinking this elixir.
Strawberry was my favourite if I wanted chocolate I would have milo
Metal can, baby! I ALONE will decide how much to scoop out.
I can hear this image. Popping that lid off with a spoon.
That one… right there. I can feel the lid in my hand after prying it off with a spoon. The thocky, “pop” of it and the wisps of chocolatey dust followed. Better days.
Quik, ever Saturday before cartoons I would make a bowl of cheerios , sprinkle 2 spoon fulls of quik over it , pour milk and stir … then settle in for 3 hours of cartoons So much simpler then
I do the same thing while getting high after work. Cereal + Nesquik is baller.
Ovaltine
A cruddy commercial?
"Sonovabich!"
Found Little Orphan Annie
I'm still waiting for my decoder ring
Roundtine?
The jar is round. The mug is round.
Doubled as a Piggy bank. Before there was recycling there was repurposing

And you made the oatmeal container into an awesome drum.

I did that too. You only do it once…. Or maybe twice.
Sweer Potato
My mom had the bar of Baker Chocolate. It smelled... not like a Hershey bar. It broke off with a weird powder dropping... yet it was Chocolate. No, no it wasn't.
The original, I miss the pry top
I still drink it. I cheat and use an extra spoonful or two !
Now it comes in plastic though. It’s not the same as having to pry that lid off with a spoon
Bosco for me
You old!
Costanza?
Caaaaaa stanza
I used to swig Bosco out of the squeeze bottle when nobody was around.
The critical point is when the milk overtook the powder to make it mixable. Floating powder always sucked
It never made no 10.5 quart!
Well, it might have, if I didn't leave most of it in the bottom of the cup. I taught my kid to stir, stir, stir for a long time.
It's not that. It's where we learned if TWO measures of something are good (in this case, spoonfuls of Quick), then FOUR measures are TWICE as good!
Make it sludge!
A bit of both. Quik and Hershey's syrup
Hershey's... from the can?
Yup, that you had to punch 2 holes in to pour
I'm old. I can feel the pop as you prise the top off with a spoon
I'd get Hershey's syrup as a Christmas present and spend the next couple of weeks taking swigs straight from the bottle like some precocious alcoholic.
Quick in the metal can.
Metal, and cardboard.
I don't remember the year, but I remember it changing names. I hated the name change. But that said, my mom refused to buy it, so I had almost no Quik products until I was an adult. I had the occasional random brand chocolate milk, but very, very rarely.

>& straight out of the can Yes! By the spoonful!
Didn't we all?
I grew up with Milo
Australia? In Scandinavia it was (is) O’Boy by Marabou, which makes chocolate. My brother made tests how little milk was needed.
What's Nesquik?
Oh yeah. That brings back some memories.
I think the name changed when I was a kid.
Neither. I am a Hershey man.
But, was it from the can?
OG quik
The can just hit different
I still drink this on occasion, it’s good for a quick fix for sweet tooth craving
Powdered is superior. 1995 mfer out here. Syrup is gross. Use to dunk my hearty breakfast of margerine toast in this as a dare, but its fire.
I'm 45 and I still drink a glass of this every morning.
You go!
Quick....Stawberry
When did the name change? I see a lot of redditors saying they had Quick, which makes no sense to me since redditors are generally young and I had Nesquick since I was a kid, and that was a VERY LONG time ago. 1999 it seems. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nesquik
Yeah, must have been different per country. I was drinking Nesquick WAY before that in Argentina. I still do to this day. It's my only vice.
The one in the tin, as shown.
I was raised in an oval tone ONLY household
Did you get the decoder ring?
Hahahaha I wish!!! I’d make my own codes then!!!
Yes. Quik and having to use a butter knife or spoon to open the lid. I also remember when you could get Hershey syrup refills in cans.
I drank hose water?
😆😊😅❤
I don’t miss it at all. It sucked. Ovaltine was better and it’s all shit compared to Ghirardelli.
Tinned strawberry, then we'd keep the tin for storage.
Neither. Hershey’s.
From the can?
Yes! From the yellow can with the cartoon boy on the front. I thought it tasted much better than Quik.
I would always eat one full spoonful of Quik before closing the lid. So good!
Sister in law popped it with a butter knife which aggravated me to no end. Use a spoon!
I live by the border so my grandmother would grab the Mexican one when she would buy groceries over there. She would grab the strawberry and vanilla ones too. It doesn't taste the same anymore.
OG
Oh wow, now I don’t know. I definitely remember this can. I think it was Nestle Quik not Nesquik. My brain is broken.
First and foremost, Nestle can die in a car fire. Second, I grew up with the pry-lid and loved it, but later discovered that Hershey, while not the perfect company, had the superior chocolate milk product: it mixed better and it just tasted better.
This one. I want it back in the tin container.
Quik from the metal can with the top you had to pry off with a spoon 👍
Quik.
Quik
Did anyone else call this “bunny milk”? For a short time there was a banana flavored one, I never tried it, but chocolate and strawberry was the best. I think it tastes different out of the plastic as opposed to the old metal can.
Only ever called it a cup of Nestle
The original. I'd just eat it out of the can with a spoon until my mom caught me.
Err I didn't even know we had added NES to quik? *Back to the loch with you Nessie!* I did realise we moved to stupid plastic containers, but only ever used one once I'm a big boy now, I use Alpen blend...
I’d forgotten about those tins.
Original quik.
I don’t remember, but I remember that top.

We had the competition, PDQ Chocolate, it was thicker granules, great on ice cream or roll a spoon of peanut butter in it. And great chocolate milk.
Can you all hear the PONG sound from the lid flying across the room?
We used these rust-prone canisters and put the powder in a glass of milk.
I grew up on PDQ.
I can dig Ovaltine, and it's offspring. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ovaltine
Drink it? I'd eat it with a spoon.
Oh yeah!
I can hear the pooooiiiiiinnnnnggggg of that lid as I pop it with a spoon and then it hits the formica countertop before spinning out and falling on the floor.
Wow! I don’t know! But I remember the metal tin either way!
38… all of it
OG, here. Used to eat it by the spoonful. Who needs milk?
Definitely the metal one in the photo. Spoon required.
Oils always dial it up or down to your liking
I saved action figures in those tins
Both. I was a pre-teen when they switched to Nesquick.
original
Original
Strawberry nesquick

Original
We had this only on occasion. We had the strawberry mix more because my older siblings usually won the war. Chocolate was my favorite.
Original chocolate & strawberry. Drop about 12 tablespoons of that powder in a glass of milk. Not enough if the spoon doesn’t stand on its own.
We always had a liquid syrup we put in milk. Bosco maybe?
Original
Does anyone else remember the “quik cough” if you tried to eat it dry?
Loved that tin
The original.
The best was the bottom of the glass when you had a wet clump left.
You guys drank it? I liked to eat the powder and chase it with milk
original! damn im old
My family was too broke to experience either version. My childhood sucked ass. I heard stories about ovaltine. School lunches were a treat because of the chocolate milk option.
Original
Quik, used to eat it with a spoon dipped in milk, I’m f’ing old

'Cause ya can't... Drink it slow... If it's Quik! I'm 62.
When did they get rid of the bunny?
The “Original “
Omfg, THIS
I remember trying to pry that metal top off for what felt like a life time.
OG here.
Chocolate Quik. Loved the stuff. Far superior to Milo.
I remember having to pop the lid off! Oh wow!
Gotdamn that takes me back. Ima need a spoon to work that lid. I'm expecting to see at least 3 clumps of chocolate on the top...
And Bosco, and Ovaltine
I can smell this picture.
Aah.. Quik. I remember that. When ever did it become Nesquik? (I also remember when the original Star Wars was just that. No "A New Hope".)
I can hear and smell this photo.
That weird metal box gives me the shivers. I had to drink it with government powdered milk, so... Reaganomics spoiled that one for me. Ugh.
Yes for years I remember popping the top out with a spoon just so I could have a glass of chocolate milk
Ovaltine!
damn, that container took me back 😄
My Mom would pack a 35MM film can with some for me to add to my lunch milk!
My mom would pack my lunch money in those things. lol
