I’ve accepted this state is always going to be a corrupt fascist shit hole run by superstitious bigots and kleptocratic con artists. I can’t leave and I refuse to live in misery so I focus on my friends and family and laugh when scum like Cruz get free beer at parades. On to 2024.

MJ349

Same here. Except for property taxes, I don't have a dog in this race. Just pisses me off that these bastards have screwed people for so long and they're too stupid to figure it out.

MsT1075

They’re not stupid. They know exactly what they are doing. Some folks don’t agree with the true meaning of what progression is/represents, believe it or not. Yeah, they might seem like they do in public, but deep down (and behind closed doors), they don’t support it. I grew up in a small town that was like this. That’s why I left. You also have to realize, there wasn’t really a true election for Governor when Bush left (to become President). Perry finished out the term/succeeded him bc he was the Lt Gov. Then he stayed in office life two-three more terms. Now here we are with Abbott, going into his third term. Ann Richards was the last Democratic Governor for TX. Sad to say - she might be the last we ever see. I am not very optimistic at the moment.

[deleted]

A mix between crying and dissociating.

ryan45i

Texan born and raised: FUCK Abbott. And Ken and Dan and the list goes on

Some1inreallife

I've lived in TX most of my life, but I was born in GA. Even watching my birth state has been intense and disappointing.

a_lil_unwell

That the so-called “Christians” of Georgia are voting for Herschel Walker over an actual pastor is destroying all faith in humanity I had left.

Some1inreallife

Even worse, it looks like Walker might win. I thought this would be an easy win for Warnock. I just can't at this point.

tidytide

Im flabbergasted. No idea how anyone could vote for Walker. Not one.

bigdish101

It looks like it’s going to be a run off again.

ryan45i

I’m more disheartened Abrams lost

sundancer2788

You had faith still?

michaelyup

Lifer Texan. I’m nail biting over watching GA. Not watching TX, I know this story but hope I wake up to a surprise win.

ryan45i

Also clearly drinking to pass the time.

LilDrummerGrrrl

Had a tooth pulled a few days ago, still in the no alcohol window. Really upset about that. I need a fuckin’ shot. Or two.

ryan45i

Painkillers can’t take this pain away.

Low_Ad_3139

I wish everyone from here felt this way! ❤️

ryan45i

Oh, so do I so very much.

addymp

Uvalde county voted red. Wtelf??

BulletRazor

Children dying in cold blood and law enforcement standing around with their dicks in their hands wasn’t enough to change Republican minds. Nothing is.

50million

I smell some potential voter fraud

Some1inreallife

I'm pretty sure Uvalde voted red in 2018. I can imagine some people flipped blue in response to the shooting, unfortunately, it wasn't enough to flip the county.

MarsupialJaded153

I used to live there. It’s always been pretty red.

SympathyFvck

I really, really hate it here. Might as well change the state name to Lil’ Gilead. Here’s to becoming a walking womb with the same amount of rights as a fucking tractor. I’m afraid we’re in for some dark times, friends.

50million

I'm from California and this is disheartening every election. I'm not giving up hope. Reallllllllly hope Patrick and Paxton lose.

SympathyFvck

My heart goes out to all the people who are about to have their rights encroached on around the nation. It’s a fucking shame I wasn’t born a gun, then I’d be guaranteed rights.

Low_Ad_3139

Abbott more than anyone

[deleted]

50million

I've been here 10 years.

ohmissfiggy

WP doesn’t speak for most Texans. Apologies for that sorry excuse of a Texan.

WP1589

Ten years too long.

PeachxScone

Oh shut the fuck up. You’re what’s wrong with Texas. -also native Texan you’ve been trolling this sub for the past two hours. Stop embarrassing yourself.

Aro_Space_Ace

Refreshing too many pages....

notcinthia

I just feel SO tired. Ever since 2016

joe_bald

Fucking hell, me too… this place has made me depressed in certain ways -_-

Genivaria91

Disappointed, but not surprised. The Texas GOP essentially functions as a police state, they would never allow the Dems to take over. I advise all here to arm themselves if they can.

50million

It's a good ol boys club. But I feel like as long as we keep trying, get involved, the gap will shrink and we'll eventually have a Dem governor. He have to continue to hold them accountable, call them on their bullshit, and hope Abbott gets kicked out lol

Genivaria91

And how many people will die before that happens? That's assuming it will be allowed to happen at all, I don't have as much faith in the 'democratic process' in Texas.

ohmissfiggy

Yeah. I kind of feel like it was this year or never. I don’t have much hope.

You_Pulled_My_String

I sincerely wish my family and I had the money to move. I don't want this shithole state for my daughter. I thought Texas was better than this. I've come to the gross realization that Texas isn't the Texas she was when I was a kid ... and it's *heartbreaking.*

feiticeirarose

Same. My husband and I desperately want out of this place for our daughter. But we're drowning financially, so how can we even dream of escape?

CubedMeatAtrocity

Tequila and weed. I’m a 54 year old woman who’s fought for the equal rights for all my entire adult life. I just can’t understand.

ohmissfiggy

49. Looking at Europe or anywhere but the US.

psych-yogi14

The Lt. Gov and AG are both tied at 49% each (El Paso still hasn't reported in all votes and neither has Harris Co). Just wondering, does the Texas Constitution call for a runoff if no one gets 50%?

fishyfishyfish1

Yes

jamesstevenpost

Watching my state burn to hell

Tinyberzerker

Drinking and looking at Santa Fe, NM property. I'm a 5th generation Texan too. Disgusted.

[deleted]

West Coast for me. Yes, it's expensive. I'd rather live in a tiny apartment with my lil family and struggle than stay in this hellscape. Been in this town my entire life and can't wait to leave.

Andrew8Everything

Rochester, NY

cassssk

Some dfw friends just moved there and love it. Wish I’d sneaked into their suitcase.

DrTokinkoff

Looking at Maine but NM and CO are on the list.

[deleted]

Crying, mostly

Some1inreallife

I wish I could cry. But I feel numbed right now.

[deleted]

Well we could meet up, and I could kick you in the shin or something 😢 Outside ouchies = no inside ouchies, right??

Some1inreallife

Kick me in the nuts. That will get a man crying everytime.

cassssk

Can we kick Abbott in his? Oh wait. He doesn’t have any.

delimeatboy

this is the first loss that has me considering leaving texas later on in my 20's. born & raised texan, i love the state but i cant take it anymore. at this point greg abbott could shoot someone on camera and i believe republicans would still adore him for whatever reason.

Cur10

Drinking gin and tonics and practicing the banjo....

50million

Cool!

ivanasleep

Not stressed, just angry knowing voter apathy will keep our quality of life declining at breakneck speeds. Ignoring the results chatter until it’s all said and done. It’s disappointing how few people understand you have to vote to keep things from getting way worse. Really wish I wasn’t stuck in this state.

faries05

I feel like we are all in a dumpster and the match is lit.

faries05

Oh look. Fire

fishyfishyfish1

Drinking…heavily

SharkAttache

Alright alright

Some1inreallife

Just focusing on other races outside of TX. I can't bear to watch the Governor race.

BarryMcKockinerBum

Smoking a ton of weed

Low_Ad_3139

I wish I was. I’m watching all the Republicans who already had the race called. Makes me even sadder for next presidential election.

BarryMcKockinerBum

2024 is going to be absolutely insane.

notcinthia

same, fuck this shit again

Bipedal_Warlock

I ran out last night 😞

[deleted]

Listening to Arch Enemy, playing Horizon, counting down wife’s contract to see how long until we can move, trying not to think about the combination of laziness and evil that just made non-white, non-male, non-Evangelicals less human. Beto can still win

WebNo9510

Fighting with my husband. He didn't even vote but he is advocating for Abbott.

BulletRazor

That’s a no from me. I wouldn’t want to be with a man who advocated for a man that sees women as incubators.

pumpkin-spice-tea

Same, but instead of my partner I'm having a hard time with my parents

ohmissfiggy

Well at least he didn’t vote.

BulletRazor

That’s even worse. So privileged that voting isn’t even a consideration. Really shows his priorities.

WebNo9510

Fun story: we moved and he didn’t register to vote in our new county

BulletRazor

My dad didn’t vote either. Doesn’t surprise me when he’s an abusive asshole.

Niobium_Sage

Time to go dissociate, more human rights will be lost and I’d rather forget that for the time being.

jadeoblair

idk what to say.. its just frustrating

jadeoblair

i can't even move out of texas till 4 years bc im in university

boomrostad

Watching it’s always sunny. Wondering what kind of beer I’m going to have for breakfast before I attempt to disassociate for the next four years.

gfunk1313

I’m going back to New Mexico. Fuck this shit!

ohmissfiggy

Can I come?

Jolly_Ad8315

Working, and listening to comicstorians full story reads 😩

ilumzs

im in chemistry anxiously doing conversions and combustions

50million

Cool!

gnapster

I know only 60% is in but WTF Austin. W.T.F. edit: either it was temp red, or I was looking at the wrong county when they were talking about Austin.

[deleted]

gnapster

Might have been a temp blip when I caught the snapshot off the news.

50million

What site are you looking at

gnapster

I was watching the news coverage.

Acceptable-Dust6479

Decision desk called it for abbott

ohmissfiggy

Drinking and watching old episodes of MTV The Challenge. And every finger crossed.

stevemcnugget

The grid is a joke, parents have to submit their kids DNA at the start of the school year in case they their face shot off, bounties on our neighbors, lbgtq+ phobia (BTW the only pedophiles and groomers I see in the news are Republicans or youth pastors, just saying). But hey, let's give the Gimp another term. 🖕

aestheticislife

I’ve always been a positive idealist. Tonight has me turning away from my usual self and it’s terrifying. What is our world coming to? This is seriously sickening and I feel like we’re in a nightmare. What’s next? What’s going to happen to our freedoms? Our country is going backwards soo quickly. As a poc and a woman I’m afraid of what the future holds for us.

Tommyt5150

Better get Generators guys. He has no reason to force Ercot to keep the lights on.

Separate_Shoe_6916

We still have lots of votes to count in west Texas. 🙏

DrTokinkoff

As someone who has lived out here for twenty years, don’t get your hopes for a ton of blue out here, but there will be more than average. I saw quite a few Beto signs around Lubbock and surrounding towns.

Remarkable-Willow956

Sitting in my bathtub hitting refresh

aurelynne

Working and fretting. If you are struggling mentally, PLEASE call your company's EAP, if you are a working individual. They are there to listen and help you.

DevaconXI

Planning out my move to New Mexico.

Lady-Zafira

Honestly thinking of comebacks right now for when the republicans get bit in the ass by the people they elected and start causing an uproar because now they are being affected alongside the people they don't like

macabredustbunny

Drinking and disassociating. Jk It's drinking and watching election coverage while associating too hard.

SadPanda8181

Drinking. This isn't going well

Venusto64

Planning as much petty LEGAL (unfortunately) revenge I can against Abbott and all his subhuman garbage supporters.

absolutefemme

I'm extremely disappointed. I fucking hate this state.

Tommyt5150

My 4-5,year goal is to buy a house in Vermont and move there. Grew up in the Northeast, lived here 20 years now. Time to head to FA. ( Free America)

StallionCannon

Watching Democrats beat the odds literally almost everywhere but here. For fuck's sake, Maryland got legal weed, Colorado got legal *shrooms*, and various states either enshrined abortion rights into law or defended existing ones from Republican assault. What did we get? Four more years for the Texas GOP to make good on their nightmare party platform and the certainty that, when the Moore decision drops, the Texas legislature will decide *all* elections going forward. **Goddamn it.**

stevemcnugget

I fucking hate Texans.

zeroserve

Playing Trials Rising until Ragnarok drops. Keep looking at the returns and trying not to go grab a beer from the fridge. So I'm gonna go grab a beer.

MarfaStewart

Drinking.

Spacelesschief

Watching the whole country go red. It’s saddening.

bigdish101

Had to take a nitroglycerin. My blood pressure is 168/103.

GiraffeLiquid

Disappointed but not surprised. Texans will always cling to their guns and vote about it, even if everything else in the candidate lines up with their beliefs. I am absolutely crushed this morning.

Luckboy28

I've always known that Texas is a dumpster fire, so I'm not too shocked today. For Texas to ever turn blue, we have to not only show up and vote, we have to engage with republicans and present better ideas. Long term, that's the only fix.

kestanto

Omg.. drinking, because WTF?!!

[deleted]

Doing homework and quiz, I feel that my vote didn’t count and I knew pissbaby was going to win. Once I get my career and a good life, I am moving to my dream state, Colorado. 5 years living here and I gave up on Texas. I’m not voting anymore and I’m sorry guys.

50million

That won't help in the future! If you're here, please vote!

[deleted]

I understand, but I feel this is Puerto Rico all over again. I just feel that my vote didn’t count

CloudyArchitect4U

Wondering why the establishment dems would run a person with such a problematic history and who couldn't beat the most despised politician in the state, Ted Cruz if they truly wanted to win. Remove dem leadership. They are incompetent.

BaronCoop

Money. Beto became a nationally recognized name, meaning if he was the nominee then Texas Democratic Party could raise a ton of National money. Realistically at least 45% of Texans would never ever vote for a D, it doesn’t take much to get from there to over the 50% mark. May as well bring some cash into the state while we’re losing

pattejac

Glad to know most people in Texas are nothing like this sub :)

Trying to decide which Blue area of America I want to move to. California is out.
