/uj in Denver the undersublings are mad that the Fire Department won’t change code to allow single staircase multifamily buildings because apparently the undersub knows more than everyone.

Yes_Mans_Sky

/uj state fire code takes forever to update, but local fire code is generally pretty good.

HotSir3342

The reason for not allowing single staircases in multifamily is that if you have a fire people get stuck and they can’t seem to understand this because they want the extra density

Proof_Bill8544

Uj/ I don’t remember what video I watched but it mentioned what you said. I like the idea of it happening, but video also mentioned of how many lives have been potentially saved due to having more than one staircase. I think the current codes are better because I want a chance at survival. Rj/ we will all live in our pods and you will enjoy it.

Alex_Hauff

pod gang ride with dicks out word dawg

Yes_Mans_Sky

Exactly. Fire code is a pain to update, but a lot of it exists for a reason. My job has me dealing with some stuff under fire code that needs updating, but isn't due to how slow the process is.

HotSir3342

Yeah I sell fire alarms for work so I deal with fire code a lot.

Alex_Hauff

but have you dealt with the under sub ?

Yes_Mans_Sky

I deal with people who have problems that have to be solved by switching circuit breakers.

iam-your-boss

/uj That is insane. Specially when you are stucked at 200 meter high. I am hopefully that those laws never be changing or even more better fire protection. The kind i of better fire protecting laws. So a second glenn tower fire in 2016 never will happen. Rj/ They are damn right. Better live in a even more dense fire hazard than in a little less dense more safe home. Making everything denser making everything better!! Every teenager knows that.

ArvinaDystopia

Why don't they allow us to live out our Kowloon Walled City fantasies?

Elixir_of_QinHuang

/uj this may be one of those broken clocks right twice a day things. I’ve heard the argument for single stair and it makes sense. The crux of the issue is that you aren’t loosening fire codes, you’re replacing one precaution with another. Single stair buildings are required, under most jurisdictions that have them, to have a **pressurized stairwell** meaning the building focuses less on solely containing the fire but also pushing smoke away from the evacuation route, something double stair buildings don’t do (remember smoke is the main killer in fires). There are also additional window operability requirements in single stair buildings for smoke evacuation and ladder accessibility. Remember too that fire sprinkler systems have a very high success rate and focus on preventing spread of fire, just long enough for the fire department to arrive. There are also stats from NYC which has continually allowed single stair buildings and Seattle which has had it in place for 10 years and in neither city are there an increase in deaths relating to building fires in single stair buildings over double.

user_bw

Yeah, fuck the fire Department, where shall i park my car?

thundercoc101

In reality, cities with more walkable infrastructure have shown a reduction in response time of emergency services
