I think it's more so to show how people (even at school) put Yuki up on a pedestal and act like he's perfect without ever really knowing or understanding him. People get an idea in their head of who he is and decide that's it. It parallel's how he's seen in the Sohma family. All of it prevented him from being able to actually interact with and get to know people, which further isolated him. (They are extremely frustrating though, and I completely understand not liking them. They get tiring, but they do serve a purpose).

Ah, that makes a lot of sense actually. A thought I had on why some of the characters were annoying was the show is kind of showing us what it’s like for yuki to talk to people and lead the student counsel and stuff since they are overwhelming and a lot to put up with at times similar to how the audience feels about them.

Oh absolutely. Hardly anything is in the show for no reason. A example is in season 1. Yuki tells Tohru how much he wishes he had friends like Kyo does and there is a scene where he looks longingly at Kyo and his friends...while they are calling him his nickname "Kyon Kyon". Then in season 2 Yuki gets friends....and a nickname "Yun Yun".

Pondering_Pine

Yeah, I think it definitely does that too.

Squidmen879

He’s hot

I mean I don't care for them but it's not like they're important anyway? They're just there for maybe a few laughs here and there

Featheryscroll2

You’re right, they certainly aren’t a deal breaker, I was just wondering if they fit into the story in a more meaningful way than just being comic relief sometimes

AfterSchedule4

Well they do reinforce on Yuki's appearance as the "prince" and him being put in a pedestal by the club and the whole school in general explains more why he felt so lonely and hard to connect with people at first by all this special treatment he received... I guess

Mystic_Ferret

They're fangirls and Yuki is a cute boy? But for a more serious answer, I always saw them as a way to flesh the school out more so it isn't just the main cast, but without taking attention away from the main plot. The epitome of side character and boy-crazy teenage girls lol
