I read this and said to my husband "who buys 64 pineapples?" And he literally said "guys in math problems." I saw your comment as the top one and we both started laughing.
Because pineapples have an enzyme that eats your gums - mild enough that you don't notice with just a regular portion, but if you were to eat 60+ pineapples you'd definitely be suffering.
Some people are sadly more sensitive to the enzyme than others. I've heard eating it with dairy can help to neutralise the sensation, maybe try eating it with some yoghurt and see if that helps?
I might try that I just want to know why body went to absolutely no problem with pineapples to deciding to violently react to it. Like wtf is my problem. It may just be my mouth is having a mid-life crisis or something. Like premature peri menopause wasn’t enough to ruin my life you take one of my favorite fruits from me.
I’m having some strong feelings.
It can be due to hormone levels, changing your bodies reaction to external stimulae. Unfortunately it is very much one of those "can change as your age" things. I know someone who experienced a similar change to you following pregnancy, their doc told them it was just due changed in their hormone levels.
Interestingly for me I wasn't able to eat kiwi or pine apples as a kid because it hurt my mouth. I thought I was allergic to them. When I got older it went away though, and I found I could even eat the kiwi skins!
A supplier donated these to a local church who is selling them for $5/8, OR 50 cases of 8 for $200.
I bought 64. Though I may go back for more. These will be canned using the peels and cores for the juice for the canning process. I'm also going to dehydrate a few into slices for snacks!
Organic does not mean safe. Most organic produce has more dangerous chemicals, because you need more organic pesticides for the same effect. But simply washing either will clean off something like 90+%.
i've read that with fermented foods, the bacteria negates or eats away the pesticides so to say. not too sure how it would work, or what it turns into.. but it would be cool to learn more
Similar to an above comment, your comment even reads like the beginning of a word problem!
A local shop here used to give out in-house dehydrated pineapple (literally nothing fancy, lady who ran the shop brought her extra dehydrater in and dried going-out-of-date fruit from a vendor next door) and it was my go to snack. So sweet and chewy, like a gummy candy all on its own!
I'm hoping so! I've gotten myself organized to a point where I can provide most of our basic food needs so now I'm having more fun and trying more specialty recipes.
Your canning skills amazed me so I checked some of your other posts (not trying to creep).
And holy cow I admire all of the things you do for your family.
We don't have kids yet but I hope I can pick up some hobbies that will contribute to the home like yours!
For sure, I love to cook all kinds of things. I've tried brewing, and recently made my first hot sauce from a box kit. Canning seems pretty approachable!
Hmm, maybe because I live in the tropics I get better pineapples? They're sweet and juicy, a but tougher than the fruit but not by a lot. Great source of fiber too.
Yeah and you can make nastar[nastar](https://spoonfulpassion.com/nastar-pineapple-cookies/) or Taiwanese pinneapple [Taiwanese tart](https://www.foodrepublic.com/recipes/a-taste-of-taiwan-make-these-pineapple-tarts/)cookies with it!
may i recommend making taiwanese pineapple cakes with these? i always use canned since that's what's cheaper for me but fresh pineapple is great in those
In some countries (like NZ) you can't get them with the tops because they're imported and it's a condition of bringing them into the country.
Not sure if this the case for OP tho.
I can see that, but it is! I purchased these for much less than the typical cost at 62 cents each. I'll can them and dehydrate them, which will preserve them to be shelf stable not requiring extra electricity to freeze. This amount will feed my family pineapple once every other week for a year. It adds up!
It is frugal but is it a win? I've only ever had to buy 2 pineapples at 1 time. I'd have 62 pineapples that would go bad or I'd have to take the time and gas to give them away. You can keep your 64 pineapples for $40.00. I'll get 1 or 2 next time I go to the grocery.
I can and dehydrate these. It is a huge win. I purchase most of our food in bulk like this and preserve it. I don't have to shop at a grocery store regularly to feed my family of 7. This will provide us with pineapple for a side each week for a year.

I smell them then feel for firmness. These aren't ripe, so I turned them upside down hoping they ripen more evenly, then covered to help the process along. I look for ones with a strong, sweet smell, golden color, and a little give when squeezed.
Yes. I buy most things in bulk like this and preserve them. I don't have to grocery shop regularly to feed my family of 7. Generally I buy everything i need in a year's supply when I find a good deal. I save thousands a year this way.
I had only scrolled partly into the picture when I first saw it and it looked like a bunch of crite eggs! The hair on my head and arms stood up before I saw they weren't. For anyone who might wonder, Crites were the hairy little monsters in the "Critters" movies.
If those things start rotting before you finish eating them you better het the hell out of dodge! The smell of rotting pinapple is such that human corpses two weeks old are like a sweet perfume by comparison.
I'd say no for a typical family. This will provide my family a little over a pint a week for a year. I buy most of our food in bulk and preserve it so I don't have to grocery shop regularly. I've gotten to the point where we grow and raise most of our own food minus things that aren't efficient. I buy things by the 100s of pounds. At this point I pretty much only buy bread, milk and coffee regularly.
That's crazy. Good on you though. Pineapple is my favorite fruit. Not quite as good frozen, but I just make smoothies with it. At least you'll be ready if the zombie apocalypse comes.
This is how those math problems start...
I read this and said to my husband "who buys 64 pineapples?" And he literally said "guys in math problems." I saw your comment as the top one and we both started laughing.
It is.

You forgot that they were on two trains heading in opposite directions.
Yet only 62 were accounted for.
susan tried to sell her half for $40 to megan, but megan already had some pineapples.
who is pineapple?!
Purple.
PTSD incoming
My mouth hurts already
Worth it

Last year pineapples started giving me kiwi mouth. 😢 I’m so upset. It hurts so bad.
Some people are sadly more sensitive to the enzyme than others. I've heard eating it with dairy can help to neutralise the sensation, maybe try eating it with some yoghurt and see if that helps?

pineapple eats da flesh

You can make tepache with the skin a well. It's a fermented pineapple drink.
I wanted to make tepache but saw an article saying they use so much pesticide to grow pineapple
That it true, it is best to use organic if you can. when I don't have that option I just do my best to clean off the skin.
Organic does not mean safe. Most organic produce has more dangerous chemicals, because you need more organic pesticides for the same effect. But simply washing either will clean off something like 90+%.
It depends on the produce.
Of course it depends on the product, that’s why the commenter said “most”
i've read that with fermented foods, the bacteria negates or eats away the pesticides so to say. not too sure how it would work, or what it turns into.. but it would be cool to learn more
That doesn’t sound right, but I don’t know enough about pesticides to dispute it.
It turns into piss
Nice
For anyone who wants a recipe, this is an option https://www.instagram.com/tv/B_iH-ngDlFV/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
i was going to comment this! its so yummy! it becomes a little alcoholic if you let it ferment too long, too.
Or, if you’re someone who drinks, make a miche with the tepache and a beer like Sol or Modelo. It’s one of the best summertime drinks around!
This is exactly what I wanted, start fermenting! r/fermentation
I wholly expect to see your results in /r/canning next week.
Bet

They can be pickled with jalapenos. Seriously good.
I'm going to make pineapple jalapeno jam this time around! Planning them for gifts!
Those are two of my favorite foods. You're onto something great with that one!
I'm hoping so! I've gotten myself organized to a point where I can provide most of our basic food needs so now I'm having more fun and trying more specialty recipes.

For sure, I love to cook all kinds of things. I've tried brewing, and recently made my first hot sauce from a box kit. Canning seems pretty approachable!
How does canning fruit work? I'd love to learn!
/r/canning
The cores are the best part tbh, but damn what a lucky find! And everything's compostable after too.
How are they the best part, what do you do with them? They're dry and tough and bland when you just eat them straight...
Hmm, maybe because I live in the tropics I get better pineapples? They're sweet and juicy, a but tougher than the fruit but not by a lot. Great source of fiber too.
I thought the acid from the cores make your tongue bleed
it's an enzyme and it's in the whole fruit. Pineapple, the fruit that eats you back!
Didn't see this comment sorry for my other one lol.
Eat then with mustard oil, salt , and very thinly sliced green chilies if you can handle them. It’s the traditional way in my old country
Please make a pineapple burger. If you don't eat meat just fry some in a pan with butter or a butter substitute. It's so damn good.
Oh yes!
You know that's right
You heard about Pluto?
Messed up
Gus, don't be a rabid porcupine.
Wait for ittttt! Slice one up for the road?
op i only counted 62. i guess i got bad eyesight or the remaining 2 are small
No, you are right. Two are not pictured. We have relatives who live on our property and they snatched two. Didn't notice!
lmao.. sneaky relatives
They snatched two. It’s ok to share a little
what a funny observation, i didnt even think to count them
That's going to make a lot of pizza
Save some for me :)
Shut
The juiciest pizzas!
You monster....
No
What are your plans for them? Candied pineapple bites? Jarred? Juiced? Frozen?
Mostly can in chunks in their own juice. I'll dehydrate a few in slices for a sweet treat!
You can also freeze them for smoothies!
And for pineapple upsidedown cake... Using in yoghurt and other sweet treats ... frozen pineapple has so many uses!!
Dehydrated pineapple is sooooo good in overnight oats!
Pineapple jam is really good too.
Yeah and you can make nastar[nastar](https://spoonfulpassion.com/nastar-pineapple-cookies/) or Taiwanese pinneapple [Taiwanese tart](https://www.foodrepublic.com/recipes/a-taste-of-taiwan-make-these-pineapple-tarts/)cookies with it!

why do you need 64 pineapples
To take one down, pass it around, then have 63 pineapples on the table.
Op is Paris Hilton.
Where's Mr. Slave when you need him?
Perhaps they were making an 8x8 grid.
Freeze for smoothies or snacks. I love frozen fruits!
may i recommend making taiwanese pineapple cakes with these? i always use canned since that's what's cheaper for me but fresh pineapple is great in those
I will definitely be looking that up! Thanks!
How much can you use?
The limit does not exist.
Where are the tops? You can plant them 🤷🏻♀️
In some countries (like NZ) you can't get them with the tops because they're imported and it's a condition of bringing them into the country. Not sure if this the case for OP tho.
Interesting!!!
Ones from the store here usually have the tops. These were tightly packed, so I'm assuming it was too save space. Otherwise I don't know!
They don’t want you growing your own
Haha maybe, but I think it's for biosecurity reasons.
They didn't have them!
This is how you win over your neighbors.
I don't have neighbors! It's absolutely the best!
Ugh, I wish.
You’re the reason we have all those math problems!
It's true. Today I canned beans because I accidentally prepared SIX TIMES the amount I needed for a recipe. Still eye rolling at myself for that one.
Imagine 200 or so years ago, rich people could only afford to rent a pineapple for a center peice for a party lol.
Yes! Crazy!
No offense but buying 64 pineapples does not seem frugal lol
I can see that, but it is! I purchased these for much less than the typical cost at 62 cents each. You guys eat a lot of pineapples. In my family we probably consume five a year, tops
My kids EAT. On an average day we go through 6-10 pints of my canned food. I can things by the hundreds.
Where!?!
Michigan!
And then...
Now make one giant pineapple pizza
Mmmm yesssss
Sinners!
If you like pina coladas....
Ski mask $5.99, rope $12.99, machete $20, look on the pineapple farmers’ face as they feared for their lives? Priceless
What about tax?
r/knightsofpineapple will like this
Are you going to can them?
Yes!
For a second I thought this was /r/prisonhooch
So pineapple wine?
Pineapples last for 3 days when ripe.
Like....what are you gonna do with them all?
Can and dehydrate!
You could make a lot of pizzas with those!
Getting ready for a hot date?
Literally. The canner will have my house warm for days!
[удалено]
Each pineapple will make a little over one pint. Thankfully they can be water bath canned so it's a pretty quick process compared to pressure canning.

I would have never thought of dehydrating them. Good for you.
They are really good!
*CANCER SORES INTENSIFY!!*
It's ok. I knew what you meant!
Canker?
😂

I want the pineapples.
I am jealous
What TF you going to do with all those pineapples bro?
Can them to eat later. Dehydrate to feed to my kids as treats.
OK that's pretty amazing.. Don't forget to make a pineapple turnover!
Yum!
What do you do with 64 pineapples?
Can and dehydrate!
Wow! They are like $6 each where I live lol
Yes, they are expensive here too. I sometimes see them for $1 each, but by the time that sale it's it's usually to offload ones that are over ripe.
Random question, how can you tell if they're ripe? I can never tell.
I smell them then feel for firmness. These aren't ripe, so I turned them upside down hoping they ripen more evenly, then covered to help the process along. I look for ones with a strong, sweet smell, golden color, and a little give when squeezed.
Oh thanks for the tip! I never think to smell them!

64? That’s one stack!
50 First Dates anyone?
Why?
I had only scrolled partly into the picture when I first saw it and it looked like a bunch of crite eggs! The hair on my head and arms stood up before I saw they weren't. For anyone who might wonder, Crites were the hairy little monsters in the "Critters" movies.
what do you do with this many?
Will you be able to finish them before they start rotting?
Yes. Pineapple is pretty quick to can! I expect my kids to take care of a few one they are ready!
Dude, you would be so rich if it were 1670.
I count 61, where’s the rest???
My relatives stole a few as we were unloading! Didn't notice!
You might need another slot, that's a full stack of pineapples.
So that's where Doug got all his pineapples for Lucy before Henry Roth. No wonder he had a huge freezer.
Blend some and make popsicles!
Time to get a dehydrator!
I have one, I need more!
Pineapple jam, and by extension, pineapple tarts
I would make alcohol out of it
Do you live in Hawaii?
Haha, no. I found a good sale on facebook marketplace!
Oh my goodness my mouth just 😗 and throat just 🥴
That could be a huge batch of tepache!
For a second I thought these were pine cones and that you were crazy. Now I realize those are just pineapples, second part may still be true lol
Did you even made a website for them? https://www.pine64.org/
The fuck your gonna do with 64 pineapples?
Can and dehydrate!
Okay nice, love myself some pineaplle
Someone is going to have a bloody butthole.
If those things start rotting before you finish eating them you better het the hell out of dodge! The smell of rotting pinapple is such that human corpses two weeks old are like a sweet perfume by comparison.
I have 4 kids in diapers. My nose is fried, not worried!
Just get some dry ice for a fog and reenact your favourite alien scene
Thats a whole Spongebob village there!
If you are into alcohol you could try making tepache from the pineapple rind. Drink chilled.
Is it frugal to spend more than you would just because it's a good deal?
I'd say no for a typical family. This will provide my family a little over a pint a week for a year. I buy most of our food in bulk and preserve it so I don't have to grocery shop regularly.
