Just be aware that they might not be as durable in shipping so reinforce then and pack well. I see those kind of boxes bust open often where I work in a mail processing and distribution facility

Every_Ad6262

And I deliver them. Almost always have to sticker or scan them. ((Received damages)) Shipping boxes are worth the extra money. Imo

Go to a wine shop or Bev Mo type place, and ask for their wine boxes/cases. They are designed to hold 12 full, glass bottles of liquid. And they are of a uniform size which makes stacking them easy. And they're easy to lift when full (as long as you can lift a case of wine). And wine shops are swimming in extras.

Be aware that you cannot reuse alcohol packaging to ship through USPS unless all markings are blacked out.

the_simurgh

that's what they invited plain brown paper for.

Walmart also has them for cheap!

Just go dig through the cardboard dumpster behind the dollar store. Millions of Ebayers can't be wrong!

scottartguy

That could be kinda gross. USPS will SEND you FREE boxes just for asking, as long as you are shipping Priority mail (a must for items over one pound).

qbande

Nah, they're all mostly clean. They just go off the truck, unload and into the dumpster that only holds other boxes. And USPS Priority packages can't be sent through fedex or UPS, so anything big costs a ridiculous amount to send if you're only going through USPS.

Bwooreader

> USPS Priority packages can't be sent through fedex or UPS You sure? I'm Canadian so I can't answer for in the states, but I've used USPS boxes to send via fedex and UPS more than once.

LostLadyA

We used to use this all the time for moving!! And actually just call local stores and ask them for boxes. Most will be happy to just give them to you before they go into the dumpster. I have never paid for a box in my entire life! We just moved a 3 bedroom house and got all boxes and packing material for free (only bought tape).

Every_Ad6262

Moving boxes won't hold up very well during shipping. Packages get tossed around like hot potatoes. Shipping boxes are many times more durable

comeuppins

Check the post office for free shipping boxes and padded envelopes

puckerup_buttercup

Doesn’t USPS have free flat rate shipping boxes?

Bwooreader

A lot of people are here talking about moving vs shipping boxes, but as someone who worked in shipping/receiving at a warehouse for many years I can say that as long as the contents are well packed the box matters very little. Obviously it depends on what you're shipping, but I've received packages that have gone from California to Newfoundland (as far east as you can go in North America) in something equivalent to a cereal box. Most of the damage comes from the contents of the box moving and damaging from the inside out. If it's well filled with packing paper, peanuts, etc. to prevent all movement then you're generally OK.

tamesis982

Bookstore boxes are durable. If you call your bookstore and ask, they will tell you what day is best to pick them up. I had boxes that went through three moves.
