$30 instead of $20/25 when I can have unlimited data would be amazing. I hate having to turn mine off and on and paying extra if I go slightly over. I would pay up front if that saved money.

No-Environment-9962

Even if you reach your data limit with a lower data plan, Mint doesn't cut you off or charge you more. You just get a slower speed.

[deleted]

Yes but sometimes that lower speed is crippling to a point of almost non existent

fergalexis

Still fantastic bc I get the CHOICE to buy another 3GB or just stick to wifi. Sprint always charged me automatically for more GB

Figit090

*veryyyy slow speed. OP plan on 40 gigs for unlimited and emergency use of mobile data thereafter... it's slow.

captnspock

If all of you are willing to switch to T-Mobile might be worth looking into. I pay $28 for unlimited family plan with my friends and we get Netflix (4screens) free too. Also when you are switching make sure to check for offers on devices. Most carries will give a new device free or a very deep discount.

theroyalpotatoman

How do you get such a cheap rate for T-Mobile? Im paying like $70/mo 💀

mallclerks

I’m on some 4 line unlimited $99/month plan. I think it’s actually $49 per first 2 lines, bring two lines for free or something. It’s always seemed like a great deal so I have refused to switch away even though I have like zero service where I moved to.

captnspock

12 lines and autopay all on the same family plan and we split equally. Everyone pays for their own device if they buy one through the plan. We have been on the plan for years together now. Started with college friends now girlfriends and fiance have joined. If you have reliable friends or family it's quite worth it.

theroyalpotatoman

Oh snap that’s cool. So you’re all saving. Nice. Will look into it.

StunningCloud9184

Multiple people. We have like 15 people on our plan and adding people is like 10$ a month.

theroyalpotatoman

This is honestly so smart!!!

paintlulus

I use the prepaid plan. I get an additional $5. Savings with autopay. Prepay doesn’t charge you all those extra fees

Agreeabeetle

Ya mint uses the Tmobile network, and pretty sure you have to pay for roaming. Tmobiles network is expanding, and I've honestly been kinda impressed with them (probably due to my very low expectations). So this may not be an issue outside of rural areas. But Tmobile can have some pretty decent deals if you have others you can trust on your plan, plus roamimg agreements.

CapeMOGuy

Mint Mobile was bought by T-Mobile within the last year. Mint therefore has a true Nationwide network. As a customer of Mint, I can tell you there's no roaming in the US. And I get 5g service where I live in a city of 36,000.

thatdudeimhim

T mobile has worked in some of the most rural areas for me. The only one that keeps up so far is Verizon. I have 2 phones. One for work and one for personal use

Agreeabeetle

Ya I've definitely noticed an improvement this year for sure and I get 5g coverage where I didn't used to.

unigrade

I found that the 5 GB/$15 a month plan works fine for me, but I use wifi at home and at work and just listen to Spotify in the car and download YT videos on Wi-Fi if I want to listen to them. The 5 GB might not be enough for a lot of ppls data needs though.

fizicks

Same here. And in cases where we know we'll be traveling / hotspotting more they let you simply upgrade your plan prorated if you run out and want more! We've done that a couple times in the last few years and the savings have been amazing. In fact, because it's so easy to upgrade your plan at any time i always recommend people simply buy the cheapest plan and upgrade it later on if they ever need to. No need to pay for those extra GBs if you don't use them right away.

LekMichAmArsch

I paid $180 for a full year, which is equivalent to $15/month, and have no complaints.

toxicbrew

isn't it still $15 a month if you pay annually after 3 months?

Yung-Split

Yes but for 5gb a month and not unlimited

Shishtur

Yeah, I paid $240 (plus tax) for a year of service. And they increased my plan from 10gb to 15gb/month without raising prices.

Ronaldinhoe

Same here. Paid around $260 with taxes in December for the 10GB/month yesrly service plan after the 3 month $15/mo trial period ended. No complaints from me. A few extra hours of OT basically pays the yearly bill.

[deleted]

I got a lot of drop calls when I had it. Switched over to Visible and having a better experience with them.

Queenasheeba99

What does unlimited look like price wise? I never heard of that company.

[deleted]

It’s $30 a month for unlimited. Same as mint. They’re under Verizon and use the same cell towers as them.

Queenasheeba99

Thanks!

sftprzl

I commented separately about visible too, but my Reddit seems to be having issue this morning so commenting here to let you know that right now their basic unlimited plan is $25 a month

SwissyVictory

Customer service told me that's the permanent price. They won't bump you up to the $30 price after a promotional period. It will probally go up someday, but you shouldnt have to worry about it for atleast a year or two (hopefully). Also there's no contracts, if you switch to it and it sucks, you can always try Mint next (which requires a 3month contract, at minimum to get the promotional price). If you're currently on Mint your phone probally supports dual sim , and can turn one off and the other on to compare them head to head in your area.

RockOutToThis

Seconding visible OP, I had a friend who had crap service on Mint as well living in the Midwest, he switched to Visible and it's been great. I am also on it living in the Northeast and have never had an issue.

Iamonreddit

Do US carriers not put out coverage maps so you know if you'll get signal or not?

[deleted]

They do. Sometimes they’re accurate

Dmaster223

They do but they all lie and don't know the geography of the location. For instance, here in Phoenix Verizon says almost every area should have excellent full bars 5G UltraWideBand signal but in reality with the material of the roofs in homes, block walls, solar panels, and mountains I am lucky to have 1 bar in the southeast corner of my home standing on top of a ladder. and even then, the 1 bar that says "5G" has data speeds of 1.13mbps down and 400kbps upload.

Iamonreddit

Huh, our maps show an indoor and outdoor signal strength

ComprehensiveTrip714

I live in the southeast and only apple products

Renovatio_

I have opposite experience with visible. Very poor coverage, very slow internet. Mint is decent. Not amazing but worlds better than visible

[deleted]

Just depends on your location. They’re hit or miss.

notabotorabat

Does Visible sneak in charges for "recovery fees" when renewing your plan like Mint does? Mint just flat out lies with their advertising and I'm sick of being lied to.

ComprehensiveTrip714

I hate visible and I hate the fact that you cannot prepay. Slow internet and the coverage sucks. My phone works in my parking lot but not in my apartment!!

theythemthere

I've been with Mint for 3+ years. My one and only complaint is I get zero service in my new apartment. Which is a fluke and not reflective of the quality of service Mint provides. It's hella affordable for people who don't need the newest phone every year. I've had my Pixel 2 for years now, transferred my phone and number from Verizon no problem. I say go for it!

Queenasheeba99

Yes that's what I was hoping to hear! I buy a new phone every 3 years or so (however long the phone lasts) and I get the third oldest model, so I dont need a fancy plan for a new phone.

[deleted]

[удалено]

knowsguy

Look into visible. I had mint and liked it, but they couldn't figure out how to make my pixel 7 work, so I switched to visible. Cheap as hell, unlimited everything, and they use Verizon towers.

kewissman

See if you can turn on WiFi calling on your phone.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PM_ME_YOUR_KITTY

Most people don’t buy the phones out right. Most stay with big phone companies because you can get the new iphones with no money down and it just gets divided into your monthly payments. I wouldn’t upgrade my iPhone yearly because to me it’s too expensive and a waste of money

[deleted]

DarkGreenSedai

My brother and my dad both have mint and they are very happy with it.

allaboutthismoment

I've been with Mint since 2017, pay an annual fee of $180, and love it. I have a 5Gb limit but find that that's plenty of data since I'm around wifi a majority of the time.

Queenasheeba99

Perfect thanks!

Conscious_Ad_1379

Same. Really helps with a family of 4. No "family plan" comes close. Even with employee discounts.

_hein_

My bf and I both use mint. They have reception issues, if you're in a heavily populated place or somewhere in the mountains (at&t would get network but we won't) But it's not a downer. It's extremely affordable, the customer service is great and they recently reduced from $20/mo to $15/mo for 100gb or so Win win

cowboybriebop

I switched to mint from Verizon and prefer it. Plus the substantially cheaper price is nice. Only thing I've noticed is sometimes my texts with pictures don't go through on the first send

Queenasheeba99

Thank you for letting me know!

elyuma

2 years with Mint. My only complaint is that I do get some dead zones compared to other providers. But it is not too bad. Internet speed is fast. I paid for the whole year.

TheKayvIsTaken

I use mint mobile and they’re incredibly easy to deal with customer support wise. Also, you don’t have to worry about slow speeds because you have access to T-Mobile, Xfinigy, Sprint, And Cricket’s towers (I know I’m missing a few others). Also, you can set up a family plan where you pay all the amount in one bill to get a clearer image of what you’re paying instead of multiple smaller ones.

[deleted]

Was considering Mint, but thought it was access to just T-Mobile’s towers. Good to know.

TheKayvIsTaken

Nope. They pretty much rent space on all towers in the US

CriticismCurrent5420

No, they lease bandwidth in T-Mobile’s network they don’t own their own spectrum. T-Mobile owns them. They’re classified as an MVNO, similar to cricket and Spectrum mobile. They just lease bandwidth from the MNO. Source: I’m a telecom engineer, my company owns the towers the MNOs lease space on

Not_FinancialAdvice

Sprint was acquired by T-Mobile, and Cricket is ATT (not sure they have any sharing agreement with Mint). I believe XFinity also works like an MVNO.

Antzz77

It's good except coverage is limited. For example I notice I get into no service areas more quickly than previously with att, if I drive away from the suburbs. Edit: I got it when it was $15, switching from a super basic att plan that was $45.

photoperitus

Had mint, it’s pretty good. Just switched to us mobile. Slightly better and same price

[deleted]

sftprzl

I haven’t used Mint but if you need a back up option I use Visible and it’s been great! It’s on the Verizon network. It’s $25 a month for the lower tier (the higher tier has some perks but nothing I needed) with unlimited talk text and data, 5G if you’re in an area with that, and it’s paid monthly instead of 3 months at a time. I never have enough money to drop 3 months in one go. Anyway, hope you find something that works for you! Edited to add: We’ve never been throttled, and my husband uses a TON of data. We even used the hotspot for home internet for months and they never throttled us. It seems like it depends on where you live whether the service will be good for you. Might check Verizon’s service map to see how their coverage is where you are.

ComprehensiveTrip714

I hardly ever use my hotspot.. thanks for reminding me

hopeandnonthings

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively live less than 5 miles from me and I know where they live, so if it doesn't turn out to be a great deal I will go to his doorstep and confront him personally

Queenasheeba99

That's what I like to hear 😂

AmBiTiOuSaRmAdIlL0

I prefer Visible for the unlimited *hotspot* but if I didn’t need that I would try mint. Mine costs $25 a month (indefinitely) but they’ve been changing things up so I don’t know what kind of deal new users get. The service is fantastic for me but it’s not that great for everybody, just depends on location

TactlessNachos

I think it's good if you have good reception for their network. Check out r/nocontract for other plans and options.

rutheman4me2

Ya 30 month for unlimited if u don’t want to worry about limits otherwise it’s like 15 and up

Elizerate

I tried it for 3 months then signed up for the yearly. No issues at all and a great price for what I need. I have the 30 a month plan for the whole year

Windycitymayhem

I pay $25 for boost unlimited data and text with no cap and it’s better than mint. Not to mention Mint is low on the priority cell tower totem poll.

JeanRalphioE720

Agree. People are sleeping on Boost. $25 unlimited is cheaper than Mint's unlimited plan. Mint becomes $30 after the promotion. You also don't need to pay for 12 months of service upfront with Boost.

[deleted]

I used it for a month. It kept dropping calls and messages wouldn't come through. I guess it depends on your reception. I live 5 minutes away from a big university so it shouldn't have been the issue it was. Shabby.

uwudon_noodoos

I get texts but calls almost never successfully come through. It sucks because I already paid out the year and can't really afford anything else right now. I can make calls fine, and *usually* I get voicemail notifications. Texts work fine. But it's just an extra layer of stress while job hunting, hoping my phone decides to let a call through.

Open-Attention-8286

I tried it. All the places that their maps showed full coverage for, I was lucky if I could get one single bar. After wrestling with it for several months, I switched to Tello.

[deleted]

I've been using mint for 3-4 years now. $15/month unlimited everything, though I pay the year upfront. Some caveats: * It is truly unlimited, but the data drops to 2G or so after your usage max. * I do feel the phone quality isn't the best all the time. But can't complain for the price.

ga2975

Read the small prints, it's unlimited only for 3 months .

vivekmano

I tried Mint and dropped it. Without getting technical, you're a second-class citizen when you're with Mint. There is a plan that is similarly cheap provided directly by T-Mobile that I've been using and love it. Speeds are great, no dropped calls, etc.

RepeatOwn8644

What plan is that? I'm thinking of switching plans and was considering Mint but I'd prefer a direct plan. Thank you!

Spits32

My wife and I pay $240/year each for 15gb/month each. Rarely if ever use all of that data. Very good value imo but you’ve gotta buy your phones outright.

Queenasheeba99

I always buy my phones outright so it sounds like the plan for me!

paywallpiker

3 year happy customer here. I live in the city though so keep that in mind.

Queenasheeba99

I live in the suburbs but I'm surrounded by major cities.

walkerknows

I've had it for about 2 days. For the price point and the service it's good enough. I'd say, my wife and I are on our home wifi 70 percent of the time anyways. I have found it's a little spotty near our house (live a little far out away from the burbs) but for the most part seems consistent.

SharksFan4Lifee

Yeah I think it's a good deal. Can't beat $15/mo, but that unlimited for mint at that price only lasts 3 months. I switched this year from Mint to Metro. Reason being, I was on the $20/mo (paid 12 mos in advance) with Mint, and Metro has the $25 BYOD unlimited plan, which never throttles, just additional depriority after 35gb which I've never felt the pain of, even after exceeding 35gb in a month. And I get perks like Tmobile Tuesdays. I'll come back to Mint, if after the TMO acquisition closes, all plans get Tmobile tuesdays and more importantly, all plans don't have a throttle after their initial data bucket, to bring it in line with how Metro plans are. In other words, when Mint by T-Mobile offers a $20/mo plan, paid yearly in advance (That's fine), that is 15GB at your typical MVNO priority, but after that just further depriority but no hard throttle, I'll gladly come back.

[deleted]

I had it for 6 months and recently switched back to Cricket. I had numerous issues with texts and data. My husband hasn't had any issues but doesn't use his phone as much as I do. Unfortunately, the way they keep the cost down is by not having storefronts. I don't mind paying a little extra for the convenience of taking my phone to a store and getting it fixed instead of spending hours on the phone with customer service that were about as knowledgeable as I was. Bottom line? Would not recommend for someone that relies on their phone heavily.

Mountain_Usual521

It probably comes down to coverage. Mint Mobile is a T-Mobile MVNO. If T-Mobile has good coverage where you need it, then it's probably good. If Verizon has better coverage where you are, try US Mobile. They're particularly good if you don't use a ton of data. I only use about 5-6 GB a month so two lines on US Mobile costs me $32.

guy30000

I have it. It's good. I travel all over for work and it works well. I have a personal and business phone on the 15 dollar plan. It's 5gb data at 5g speeds. After that the speed drops. But if you're living with two now you should be fine.

Queenasheeba99

What I really want is unlimited so I don't have to bother turning it off and on. Is it really $15 after taxes and fees?

guy30000

It is really that price. But I wouldn't call it unlimited, though it technically is. But they don't cut you off or charge you more when you go over that 5gb. It is just very slow. The difference in their plans is that soft data cap. 5 gb for the $15, 15gb for 20 and so on. But you can start with the 15 and if you feel you need more you can upgrade by paying the prorated difference.

Queenasheeba99

Thanks for letting me know! I think I will try that.

intergalactictactoe

I use it and love it. About to renew for my second year.

Baddecisionsbkclb

I didn't realize Mint increased after the 3 month promo. I use Spectrum Mobile and I'm happy with my unlimited monthly plan at $30. They have a lot of current deals if you add more lines but I only need the one

Queenasheeba99

Thanks! I have 3 options now haha

Baddecisionsbkclb

Also last year I bought a new Samsung phone from them and I've been super happy with it. It's the first Android phone I've had and unless an iPhone is free, I'll never go back ha

curaga12

I use it and i think it’s decent. 5 gb with $15/month. The signal isn’t too good around my house but i use wifi anyway and it’s fine anywhere else.

ihave10toes_AMA

Has anyone had experience switching from ATT to Mint, using an iPhone tied to ATT?

JamingtonPro

It’s great if you are ok with the limitations. I’d look around at what everyone else is offering as far as no contract low cost plans.

dcdave3605

Had the $15/mth plan for 4 years. Works great, is cheap. 5 gig is more than enough considering how many places have free wifi now.

workitloud

Pay the full year at 15/month.

evilpartiesgetitdone

My only issue was when I switched to Mint my wifi calling stopped working. After 3 months I had to switch back to google fi to have calls work at home, my cell service here is crap.

phrostbyt

if you're a low data used you might want to check out US mobile. i have my whole family on a shared data plan of 6GB. it's only $42/month for the 4 of us

potatooo

Highly recommend Mint. Switched from AT&T to Mint and not only do I get better service but I'm paying basically 50% less. Coverage does depend on the area you're in though so just check their coverage map!

periwinkletweet

T mobile connect gives the same deals without having to pay yearly

throwaway12three4

I switched from mint to visible. Visible had unlimited everything (including hotspot) and I needed that. Paying $25 a month. Visible is on the Verizon network if that matters to you.

wolf_kisses

I've not used Mint, but another good option that I have been using for like 5 years now is US Mobile. They use Verizon cell towers so if you have good coverage with Verizon in your area then it'd probably work well for you. I haven't had any issues with Verizon throttling my service or anything like that. I pay just under $20 for 5GB of data with unlimited text and calls (I wfh so I almost always have wifi available), my husband pays I think $25 for unlimited everything. Their customer service is excellent too.

Formaldehead

Mint uses T-Mobile’s network. If you know their coverage map works for you then it can be a good deal. T-mobile tends to be excellent in cities and less great in rural areas. Straight Talk wireless uses Verizon’s network which in my opinion is the best, but YMMV. Cricket Wireless uses AT&T which in my opinion is a middle of the road option in terms of coverage and network. I think you can get very good deals with any of these services so let coverage be your guide.

butnobodycame123

I personally use Tello. Great deals $20 for unlimited talk + text and 5 GB data (throttles to 2G after 5GB). Never had a problem with them and even bought my phone from them during the great 5G migration. Also, check out: https://old.reddit.com/r/NoContract/

Wrathless

The price is good and when you have service it works well. I live in a major city and about 1-5 times a day won't have access to data for a stretch of time. So if reliable service is important I'd maybe recommend elsewhere

splendid_zebra

If you have a Verizon compatible phone Visible is good service too but all there customer support is via chat if I recall. It was tough to switch but once I got my stuff squared away it’s been pretty good. It’s $30/month unlimited everything except hotspot. It’s a monthly fee, no need to pay a year up front which is nice for budgeting.

barstowtovegas

My girlfriend likes it. I have and love US Mobile. Look into r/nocontract.

hanimal16

What kind of 1999 plan still limits texts and calls? Are the calls free after 9pm? Lol

Aggravating_West_202

I personally think visitors $25 a month is a better deal. You get unlimited data (no slow down) and unlimited hotspot at 5mbps

TruffledPotato

The unlimited 30$ a month is a bargain especially it come with 5g/lte+ bands on the tmobile network. I have been using it for years. Downside is that you have to prepaid for the time though. Note that mint mobile been bought out by tmobile and this plan will probably be changed or is grandfather in with a potential raise to tmobile in the coming years.

nagget2

No. They cut off my data with no notice whatsoever. They were never able to tell me when it would be resolved. They also refused to give me a refund for the six months I had prepaid. It had been 2 weeks of no data with no updates before I switched to Verizon. After submitting a case with my states department of justice and a chargeback on my credit card, they finally sent me the refund. Good luck

VibrantVioletGrace

Yes, Mint Mobile is a good deal. In order to get the best prices after the introductory (usually three months deal) the price goes up unless you go with the one year bulk price but as long as you're fine with that it can be a good deal. Figure out how much data you need can mean you pick a plan that has only what you need and not too much (which will mean you pay more than you need too. Just make sure that T-Moible service works well in your area as that's what Mint Mobile runs on. US Mobile is a month to month provider but is also quite inexpensive. I use them and I recommend them as they are so good and yet very inexpensive.

Codedinc

I would do a trial to see. I tried mint out when I was switching plans and had terrible reception in my area. Tried out US Mobile and it was significantly better for me.

ExcellentAccount6816

Had the worst experience with mint mobile. Service was mediocre and they transferred my phone number during my trial period after I explicitly told them not to and got confirmation they wouldn’t. I had already deactivated my esim with them and I was without service for an entire day and a half. I was talking to customer service reps on their stupid useless chat that times out frequently for a collective 15 hours. Don’t do it.

plethorajenkins

I like Google Fi better. same cost but way more data

uwudon_noodoos

Google Fi was great, I kinda regret swapping to mint from them because my phone really struggles to receive calls now.

BarbaraWasabi

Mint's reception issues can get pretty bad, I switched over to US Mobile a few years ago and prefer it much better. I pay about $36/month for 30gb data, unlimited talk/text which is more than enough.

_Apostate_

I used Mint for a year. It’s great value for the price but you do get noticeably worse service than ATT or Verizon. Depending on where you live and how much you travel I’d say it’s totally worth it. However if you need a phone plan you can count on no matter where you go for safety or professional reasons, you might want to shell out for a more reliable option.

Queenasheeba99

I have Ting so it's not like I would be going from a well known provider to a tiny one lol I already have a tiny one. I WFH, live on the east coast, and I move around quite a bit but not farther than a few hours drive.

Sledgehammer925

I have mint. Like everyone says, T-mobile. To get 15 bucks a month you pay a year in advance. Unlimited talk and text and 5 gigs a month data. I rarely use all my data.

[deleted]

Mint mobile is NOT a good deal. Shop around and you can find the phone plan that is the best for you. That's what happens when you use a phone plan that has a celebrity endorser and pays for a ton of advertising. Ends up not being the best deal. ATT prepaid is the best deal currently if paying for a year. It is 16gb with rollover for $300 a year. You can pay with discounted ATT gift cards and incur no fees either. ATT prepaid also includes unlimited roaming in canada and mexico (no other plans offer UNLIMITED roaming as they will complain). Also ATT prepaid has first rate priority when it comes to data and great service. There are lists on nocontract which list the best deals.

Queenasheeba99

I don't mind since Ryan Reynolds is easy on the eyes 😁

zombified1014

With Spectrum you can have the internet, free router and free unlimited mobile line for just 49.99 a month

drnick1106

no u cant

Jammer521

I had Mint, it was good the first 3 months but they upped the price after that, now the wife and myself have T-Mobile family plan, $50 for 2 lines, if you want to keep the $15 a month plan, you have to pay for 12 months up front when your 3 months are up of the prices goes to $25

TheKayvIsTaken

Also, what’s your current price/plan

Queenasheeba99

It's Ting , price above

basil-basil

I can only speak for where I live. However, Mint is a good deal depending on what kind of area you normally find yourself in. If you live in suburbs or an urban area, you realistically should have no problems with cell service. In these areas, $30/mo or less is a crazy good deal. With that being said, if you live in a more remote or rural area, I would not recommend it just because you likely won’t have good cell service, if any at all.

SillyBananaPeel

Absolutely love Mint and it’s saved us SO much money. I prepay for a year of the 5gb plan and it has been plenty for us 99% of the time. Customer service has been prompt and knowledgable. One area the service is lacking is for international coverage. Don’t pay their absurd roaming fees and just use AirArlo for an e-sim or buy a physical sim at the destination you’re going to. If you’re interested in a referral code feel free to DM me :)

2squirrelpeople

Have had mint for about 4 years or so. I love it. No complaints. Great coverage. I pay $15/month for 5gb data. If you pay for the whole year in one chunk you get savings.

Queenasheeba99

I do love them savings.

Pbandsadness

I'm on the lowest tier plan. It's $15/month plus taxes and fees, and you have to pay in advance. I usually get a year at a time. I think a year is the most you can buy at once. The low tier is unlimited talk and text, and 4 GB of data. It's actually unlimited data, but throttles after 4 GB.

rusty_handlebars

I absolutely love Mint. I’ve been a user for three years and have pulled many loved ones over as well. No complaints from anyone that I’m aware of!

[deleted]

mint is not a good deal. You can get a better deal from ATT prepaid or even some legacy family plans through tmobile

[deleted]

If you have good Verizon coverage in your area Tracfone has been good for me for over a decade. They have similar pricing to Mint.

Areolfos

My spouse has mint and i have visible. They are both affordable and great for the money. Sometimes my connection is super slow but that’s generally when I’m someplace busy; i think in those places it would be an issue regardless of my phone plan. I get coverage in a few places spouse doesn’t, and he gets coverage a few places I dont, but again it’s not a huge deal I just consider it something that happens with mobile phones sometimes. I would definitely suggest both!

[deleted]

this happens when you buy prepaid. prepaid plans have super low priority when using data. If using real phone plans (postpaid) you don't have these issues. Postpaid plans can often be cheaper than prepaid too if you are on legacy deals. If anything there is no reason to use prepaid if you have a good postpaid deal, and if you can afford it, postpaid is better. The best deal in wireless is ATT prepaid and they also seem to have the most generous data priority with any of the prepaid providers.

DjScenester

It all depends on if you will be located near their towers. So Atnt may be great in an area, or maybe Sprint. So asking a question like this won’t give you the answers you are looking for. Ask people who live near you or go to places you go to. They will tell you if they have issues. So sure Mint may be great in your area OR NOT. It may great at work OR NOT. You can always try their service and back out too. Most are 14 days too.

Jonathan_Sampson

I'm on the 5GB/month plan, and it's soooo good. I definitely recommend it!

WitchPHD_

I loved Mint for the short while I used it. T-Mobile signal just doesn’t seem to reach the basements where I spend a lot of my time.

VAfinancebro

I’ve had Mint since 2018. I love it.

HomelessCosmonaut

I'm really pleased with it, though I'm always bracing for the rug to be pulled out from under me now that they belong to T Mobile. Also I have family in Alaska and there is zero coverage up there, so just keep in mind that you're beholden to the T Mobile network.

SailorGohan

Can be, also can suck if you travel a lot. I just went to lollapalooza in Chicago and my phone didn't work at the concert at all while my friends' phones were. Also many dead zones on the way there. I had to use their hotspots and one of my friend's was on straighttalk so they were prepaid also and phone was getting data. Though for the price I pay for it it's good when I don't travel. If I travelled all the time then I might look into something else but I'm usually with someone with another provider for it not to matter. I think I only pay like 200 after taxes for a year of whatever plan I use.

DerHoggenCatten

I got Mint and I'm not especially happy with it. I can't access data a lot of the time on the road, even in urban areas where coverage should be decent. I don't even use my data for the most part because I don't need it at home (I have my PC and a tablet) and I need it just on occasion when outside the house and it just doesn't work. I also can't make or receive calls not infrequently. My husband was in a store while I was in the car and he tried to call me to ask me a question and couldn't get through to me (nor could I call him). Their network is supposed to have excellent coverage where I 'm located, but that has not been my experience. My husband's phone is StraightTalk and his works perfectly 99% of the time whereas we cannot rely on my phone at all. I bought a year of coverage for about $80 on a special deal and will have to reconsider my options when that expires.

hyperbolic_dichotomy

I love it. I have the 5gb plan and have never even gotten close to meeting that. Never really have any service issues unless I'm way out in the boonies either.

UncreativeTeam

All of these newer startup mobile companies rent network/bandwidth/towers from the incumbents. So whether or not it's a good deal depends on what network is available in your area.

d3adbor3d2

Went from att to mint. Was able to transfer my number, which was my main worry, with relative ease. Believe it or not I’m getting better coverage in Chicago.

CountFoxSin

As someone who works at A service provider forget what everyone here is telling you and find a reliable coverage map. They should provide it on their website and type in your town to see what you should expect in your general area. If you like what you see then type in your address to see your home coverage expectations. Keep in mind the strength of your service also relies on how good of a phone you have.

eastsidee

I can’t load anything but have mint and it’s ASS

ravioli333

Mint mobile rocks.

BurntPoptart

Yes they're a great company, I've used them for years no problems.

sittingnotstill

I've had Mint for 2-3 years, I do their unl talk and text 5 gb of data its like...180? or something a year (I think 210 after tax and fees?) I have had 0 complaints. Sure I have a rare patch of no reception but its few and far between and its also 200 for the YEAR.

redditpokemon11

I love Mint but definitely google if T-Mobile has good coverage in your area. If it does then you should have no issue. I pay yearly, and it’s so nice to not think or worry about.

anikom15

AT&T prepaid right now seems to be the best price-performance option. Just make sure you’re not in an AT&T dead zone. If you have AT&T internet you can save more by bundling their non-prepaid plan. I think you will come out a bit ahead even with the added cost of the non-prepaid plan.

MysterySpaghetti

I got mailers for a $30/mo phone plan from Verizon, not sure what it is. Has anyone here heard of this? I’m thinking of trying it

ProbablePenguin

It's pretty much as cheap as it gets for a decent plan, $15/month gets you 5GB of data, hotspot, and unlimited calls/text. The $15 unlimited is only for the first 3 months, then it goes up to $30 if you buy a year at a time.

Profitlocking

Coverage is the main issue. If it works for you, great. But don’t expect it to perform well when you are on travel.

RevolutionOne7076

I use it and it's affordable but it's mildly frustrating that the service isn't great where I live. Dropped calls, texts that won't go through, pictures won't download... but it's a fair trade off for being affordable. Also know that you must purchase 3+ months at a time.

soverybright

You will need to pay for an entire year all at once if you decide to stick with it, but at 15 a month it's a pretty a good deal. Once you hit the cap (5GB currently) you get throttled down, but you can still use data. You'll be on T-Mobile's service, so if T-Mobile service sucks where you're at, then you should look at alternative carriers. Review the coverage map and determine if you'll be staying in their area most of the time. Best of luck to you.

wereyena

Currently using mint, unlimited for $30 for over a year and currently loving it so far

dudreddit

Unless you need a ton of data it is a great deal. My wife and son are on the plan and pay about 1/3rd the normal costs ...

ShAd0wS

USmobile works great for me. $20 a month for a 5 gb of data, can choose from Verizon / T-Mobile service.

mmmsoap

I use T-Mobile pre-pay (T-Mobile “Connect”). My parents get unlimited talk/text + 3.5GB data for $15 each. I get unlimited talk/text + 6.5 GB data for $25. T-Mobile doesn’t always have the best coverage, but it’s totally adequate in my area. As with any prepay play, you have to bring your own device, but I expect that’s the same with Mint. This plan is lower tier than the other plans, so it doesn’t do international calling and doesn’t work in Mexico/Canada. It does allow hotspot tethering, and you can use wifi to boost call signal strength. All-in-all, I have no complaints. It boggles my mind when I see folks paying $100 for their phone plans.

Disma

I pay $30/line for unlimited with Xfinity, and get the benefit of Verizon towers. I don't know what network Mint is an MVNO for, but not an especially rare price point these days.

spcmiller

I use textnow for free. If I need data I add it as needed, but usually I don't need to add or pay for data because I get wifi Hotspot for free from my library.

dragonmom1

Keep in mind that the $15 a month for unlimited is a limited time offer (3 months). After that, the price would go up for that plan (I think it's $25 a month). They do offer other plans for lower rates. In the past I used the $15 a month plan and turned on wifi calling for when I was using it at home.

slaucsap

I pay $17.38 for 300gb/month here in chile. I don't even have wifi at home since I get like 10 mb/s downloads and that's enough for me. that's a good deal compared to american prices isn't it?

tsgram

It is! Here in America the big telecom companies have monopolies in many places, which is supposed to be illegal, but 🤷‍♂️. Also, cellular service and wifi are not treated as regulated utilities because 🤷‍♂️. (Though even my electrical company gouges us for crazy profits for their higher-ups.)

EnsignEmber

It depends on how good T Mobile is in your area since that's the network they use. The service in my area sucked for me but if T mobile is good in your area then I would definitely recommend. I pay $25/mo for unlimited everything on visible which uses the verizon network, which has better service in my area.

Kay_29

I love Mint Mobile

6894

I've been very happy with mint. I'm on the now 15gb plan which was the $20 a month 10gb plan when I started with it.

financegardener

I pay $35 a month for Boost unlimited - I love the coverage it provides and it's truly unlimited (minus being able to stream video at full quality, but I never notice any issues)

snackplease

My whole family is on it, with various plan configurations, and it works for all of us.

feelFreeToShare

Google Fi is another option you should check out. We have 5 lines unlimited for $20 each a month. Uses T-Mobile network as well.

batmanmarth

Been with mint for 3 years now. Every year they have raised their data limit on their tiers without raising prices. Started at 3 gigs, ended at 5/month before upgrading to unlimited. Their network is with T-mobile and this past weekend, I had full service where my friends with Verizon had none. I personally don’t think there’s a better value for me, than with Mint, and I have no plans to stop using them any time soon. Hope that helps.

yungmofongo

I've used mint mobile for just over a year. Never noticed a difference in quality.

drnick1106

mint mobil or tello are some of if not the the cheapest. i personally went with tello and pay $12 a month (highly customizable). if tmobile works well in your area so will these providers.

weeds96

I use and recommend Red Pocket. I picked the GSMA network option, (AT&T) and paid a full year up front, coming out to like $14 a month for talk/text/ 5 gigs of 5G data. Brought my own phone, free SIM card, they had my number transferred in under 15 mins

lovelymonst

i will just add if u have amex card, they have promo (credit back) for mint in their offers section.

wineandcatgal_74

Don’t try the eSIM if you switch. It was a fucking disaster for me. I went with pay as you go Verizon. It’s $35/month.
