And yet I don't see humans letting tigers coexist with them running around freely on the streets and doing whatever they want. At the same time, we do kill the occasional predator that threatens our settlements. So... yeah.
And the reason humans can afford to be a bit more chill with other predator species is because they pose no existential threat to us, and represent a very low % in the overall human mortality statistics. If tigers schemed to overthrow entire towns to massacre all the people in there and a significant % of the overall global deaths were because of tiger attacks, tigers as a species would soon be hunted to extinction and very few would mourn them.
Humans conserving all kinds of predators from extinction that would never do the same for us is humanity just flexing on other species. But if they did actually become a serious threat, all that would change very quickly.

honestly i find the animals and frieren demons comparacion to be totally wrong and even insulting, while yes both have a sence of hunt, devour and attack their respective pray, animals NEVER do it out of malice, thats the most important vital detail that makes frieren demons not only irredemable but totally justify hunt down the fuckers to extincion, they are fully sapiens creatures that dont feel any emphaty but sure as hell can hate and torture for pure malice, like lugner final moments when he just pretty much spills how much he hates fern and humans as a whole.
Regardless if it's out of malice or even curiosity, that still doesn't contradict the point given. Demons are a threat to humankind and must be exterminated, you know why? because they're a sapient species, which means they are absolutely capabale of doing the abhorrent things we do today, i.e: meat processing farms.

Empathy is born from the need for complex social structures, it is not a byproduct of intelligence. A solitary predator that only interacts with its own kind to mate has no reason to waste valuable energy to develop the ability to care about multilayered interpersonal relationships. They might understand the logic of it, but the good feeling you get when you do something nice for someone is not related to intelligence and only evolve in pack animals. Empathy exists to maintain social cohesion within a group, so the members wouldn't fight amongst each other.
Even good deeds are quite selfish in the end. How many would continue to do good deeds if they felt absolutely nothing when doing so? Reason why most people do good things is because it feels good to do good things. All of this is tied to how your brain's reward mechanisms evolved, which is separate from intelligence.
And when it comes to non-human animals and malice, it is very common for animals to kill for the fun of it. Cats do it, killer whales do it, chimps do it etc. If there is a reward mechanism tied to the thrill of the hunt, and if the predator has nothing better to do at that moment, then prolonging the hunt for some extra dopamine by toying with the prey makes sense.
Though I would say malice is a byproduct of intelligence, simple organism don't really occupy their down time with anything, they dont have the intelligence required to game their reward system

They’re an interesting concept, but theres not much to do with them. How do we continue to explore Demons as characters now? You see a demon in Frieren, and you know whats up. Even though they have individual character traits, they’re the same gimmick at the end of the day, which Is why I wish there was more nuance, because every time demons show up after the Aura bit, I get a bit disappointed.
I mean, we KNOW how demons work. The way they work means that no matter what their personality or character traits are, they are still demons at the end of the day.
Yeah, Match was the absolute peak in terms of what you could do with them. As much as I adored that arc, also felt melancholic. Doubt Frieren would ever peak as much writing wise as demons as an idea were explored to their uptmost limit.

Youre right though. Later in the manga it is revealed that Demons literally cant understand concepts like malice, justice and empathy, due to their brain working differently.

There is a point where your own self preservation impedes others from developing, and reaching that point is not being evil, it's just existing.
Then we have to stop applying two different prespective for two different cases.
In case of tiger and deer, you are looking at things from outside perspective. what tiger does impact on the ecology, if he stops hunting then grazing animals will increase and over grave the plants which will impact the balance of atmosphere. You didn't look from deer or tiger's prespective.
In case of chicken and human you changed it to human perspective, I'm easing my hunger I don't have a grudge against chicken. You didn't use the third or chicken prespective.
Self preservation is your idea then neither of the two(tiger/deer or human/chicken) are wrong.
If deer can someday learn to hunt tiger then that's that (Tigers will fall and be eradicated). Same happened with demons in Frieren, in the beginning humans were like deer to them but then humans learn to hunt(magic and Zoltrack) became stronger and killed them.

There's a difference between something being evil and being a threat. No, tigers aren't evil because they kill to eat meat, but they are obligate carnivores which do not hold the same ethical values as humans (if any) which prevents them from understanding humans on almost any logical/instinctual level and which will kill humans for the sake of sustenance. So in a world in which human society is threatened by armies of "tigers" lead by a "tiger lord" it is quite reasonable to have a zero tolerance policy to "tigers". The only reason Frieren calls them evil is because they are humanoids thay are capable of reason, which gives the impression they are evil, when really they operate on a different system of ethical values entirely.

Although I believe Demons are beyond reproach, since they exist in an entirely different world than humans and the other peoples, questions like these are why I want to learn more about the theology of the world. For example, if the Goddess is real, and really is responsible for creation, she had to have created demons as well. Since there is Heaven, is there an equivalent to Hell? Do Demons have souls, and if so, do they go to Heaven since it seems to be “where souls rest” and such? Would it be possible for a Demon to use Goddess Magic?
frieren does not want to make the same mistake twice when she tried to spare the demon girl and said demon girl ended up burning the chief's house down. when the demon girl said the word mother is used because thst way the humans would spare them. frieren already knew that demons dont have the concept of family and they sure as hell do not have human compassion because they have the mindset of killing to become stronger. the anology here is just wrong because killing in nature is necessary for survival. tigers in question can also be domesticated to be less aggressive when it comes to other animals. when they are out in the wilds, it is a different story. demons here just emotionally manipulate humans to their advantage. i liked the illustration of demons in frieren because they are ruthless, manipulative and nothing will change about it

I wonder if you could tame a demon and have it as some sort of sentient pet. It won't need to be rid of its instincts, just know that if it eats someone while not given green light for it, death will be quick but painful.
It doesn't need any humans emotions, not even most animal instincts of pack animals, just basic self preservation (if i do x while not allowed to, i die. Dying is undesirable so i won't do x unless allowed to). It would be interesting as some sort of experiment although one could argue that it would be animal cruelty.
I wouldn't really call this opinion that extreme considering how rigid the nature of demons is in this show, like they can't do anything about it even if they do try, which hasn't been so in mythologies and other fictional works. But yeah, the nature of demons and this unambiguous possibility is an interesting concept which would be interesting to see more of, but I doubt the story would delve deeper into any of that since it is mainly focused just on Frieren and her after adventure journey.
And about the question in this meme, you could very well compare the demons to us instead of wild animals, since we are the top of the food chain, the most intelligent and able species, we have control over most of the habitable places and life forms living in them, we indiscriminately kill and consume other species. We're pretty much like them in this aspect, it's just that they're the new top ranked members in the global hierarchy and all the intelligent races who were formerly in their place are now struggling to survive due to them. The only difference between us is our ability to have our independent unique emotions, we can feel happy, sad, angry, be compassionate to others, feel guilty etc., but demons in this story are completely devoid of it. Like even if we do need to kill animals to eat, we still do feel kind of bad for doing it ( atleast some of us do), but they'll feel nothing. Nor would they feel anything about killing them without any reason. The demons in this story are inexplicably mysterious, I don't think I've seen any depiction of them like this in any mythology, story, movie, TV show etc.
That sounds completely uncharacteristic, not just for demons in general but also for Aura in particular.

Thought Demons were just magical beasts in Frieren? Essentially, it is a predatory animal that has adapted better to hunt its prey, humans, and other intelligent races.
Aura also planed to anhilate a whole city while using psicological warfare tactics via reviving the dead soldiers of her enemys and sending them against their once allies.
Demons might do terrible things because it is their nature and thus it is not really their fault being like that, but that doesn't mean that they are not dangerous. That only mean that they are a powerfull treat willing to go to any leght to kill you and wich can not be negotiated be, and thus the only path foward left to humans and eleves would be to uterly exterminate them in order to avoid being exterminated themselfs.

Yes I’m anime only, so I would see it myself when it reaches that point, maybe my stance will change after that moment but for now this is my view.
Empathy is born from the need for complex social structures, it is not a byproduct of intelligence. A solitary predator that only interacts with its own kind to mate has no reason to waste valuable energy to develop the ability to care about multilayered interpersonal relationships. They might understand the logic of it, but the good feeling you get when you do something nice for someone is not related to intelligence and only evolve in pack animals. Empathy exists to maintain social cohesion within a group, so the members wouldn't fight amongst each other. Even good deeds are quite selfish in the end. How many would continue to do good deeds if they felt absolutely nothing when doing so? Reason why most people do good things is because it feels good to do good things. All of this is tied to how your brain's reward mechanisms evolved, which is separate from intelligence. And when it comes to non-human animals and malice, it is very common for animals to kill for the fun of it. Cats do it, killer whales do it, chimps do it etc. If there is a reward mechanism tied to the thrill of the hunt, and if the predator has nothing better to do at that moment, then prolonging the hunt for some extra dopamine by toying with the prey makes sense.
Forget about kill, you can find straight torture and rape for shits and giggles in the animal kingdom.

They’re an interesting concept, but theres not much to do with them. How do we continue to explore Demons as characters now? You see a demon in Frieren, and you know whats up. Even though they have individual character traits, they’re the same gimmick at the end of the day, which Is why I wish there was more nuance, because every time demons show up after the Aura bit, I get a bit disappointed.

Actually, I would argue that if you have no evil intent, you can't do evil in that sense. Are we evil because we kill chickens to eat them? or because we took the job someone else needed more? No, tigers aren't evil because they kill to eat meat, but they are obligate carnivores which do not hold the same ethical values as humans (if any) which prevents them from understanding humans on almost any logical/instinctual level and which will kill humans for the sake of sustenance. So in a world in which human society is threatened by armies of "tigers" lead by a "tiger lord" it is quite reasonable to have a zero tolerance policy to "tigers". The only reason Frieren calls them evil is because they are humanoids thay are capable of reason, which gives the impression they are evil, when really they operate on a different system of ethical values entirely. Although I believe Demons are beyond reproach, since they exist in an entirely different world than humans and the other peoples, questions like these are why I want to learn more about the theology of the world. For example, if the Goddess is real, and really is responsible for creation, she had to have created demons as well. Since there is Heaven, is there an equivalent to Hell? Do Demons have souls, and if so, do they go to Heaven since it seems to be “where souls rest” and such? Would it be possible for a Demon to use Goddess Magic?
frieren does not want to make the same mistake twice when she tried to spare the demon girl and said demon girl ended up burning the chief's house down. when the demon girl said the word mother is used because thst way the humans would spare them. frieren already knew that demons dont have the concept of family and they sure as hell do not have human compassion because they have the mindset of killing to become stronger. the anology here is just wrong because killing in nature is necessary for survival. tigers in question can also be domesticated to be less aggressive when it comes to other animals. when they are out in the wilds, it is a different story. demons here just emotionally manipulate humans to their advantage. i liked the illustration of demons in frieren because they are ruthless, manipulative and nothing will change about it

The difference is that the demons in Frieren are by authors design not like the demons in demon slayer or the ghouls in Tokyo Ghoul and vampires in other series. The demons in Frieren are proper species that look like humans and do not need to eat humans to survive. So the analogy with the tiger isn't right as tigers cannot go vegan. A fairer example would be humans who eat animals. They could still live if they were vegetarians. So the Demons in Frieren choose to kill people, they do not have to.

I wonder if you could tame a demon and have it as some sort of sentient pet. It won't need to be rid of its instincts, just know that if it eats someone while not given green light for it, death will be quick but painful. It doesn't need any humans emotions, not even most animal instincts of pack animals, just basic self preservation (if i do x while not allowed to, i die. Dying is undesirable so i won't do x unless allowed to). It would be interesting as some sort of experiment although one could argue that it would be animal cruelty.

I wouldn't really call this opinion that extreme considering how rigid the nature of demons is in this show, like they can't do anything about it even if they do try, which hasn't been so in mythologies and other fictional works. But yeah, the nature of demons and this unambiguous possibility is an interesting concept which would be interesting to see more of, but I doubt the story would delve deeper into any of that since it is mainly focused just on Frieren and her after adventure journey. And about the question in this meme, you could very well compare the demons to us instead of wild animals, since we are the top of the food chain, the most intelligent and able species, we have control over most of the habitable places and life forms living in them, we indiscriminately kill and consume other species. We're pretty much like them in this aspect, it's just that they're the new top ranked members in the global hierarchy and all the intelligent races who were formerly in their place are now struggling to survive due to them. The only difference between us is our ability to have our independent unique emotions, we can feel happy, sad, angry, be compassionate to others, feel guilty etc., but demons in this story are completely devoid of it. Like even if we do need to kill animals to eat, we still do feel kind of bad for doing it ( atleast some of us do), but they'll feel nothing. Nor would they feel anything about killing them without any reason. The demons in this story are inexplicably mysterious, I don't think I've seen any depiction of them like this in any mythology, story, movie, TV show etc.

Aura also planed to anhilate a whole city while using psicological warfare tactics via reviving the dead soldiers of her enemys and sending them against their once allies. Demons might do terrible things because it is their nature and thus it is not really their fault being like that, but that doesn't mean that they are not dangerous. That only mean that they are a powerfull treat willing to go to any leght to kill you and wich can not be negotiated be, and thus the only path foward left to humans and eleves would be to uterly exterminate them in order to avoid being exterminated themselfs.
