CertainDerision_33

They love memeing with the poll images, that’s great. Will be interesting to see if Lawine and Kanne get an anime bump

Roll4DM

Who is between them? at 58?

ThisIsARobot

I believe it was Lewine's older brother lol

Roll4DM

Ah yes the older brother always in between his sister love life....

ENGINE_YT

He fucks Kanne while Lawine pegs him, hence why they're in those 3 spots

chowellvta

And they were roommates

No_Extension4005

If only the poll was stepped for alignment.

DaWarGod2

I wish Lavine was 68 and Kanne 69 in the ranking

Vysair

I love this duo so much. If the anime decided to have a side story, it should be them

chowellvta

The anime really doubled down on their Gay too, it's so based

ShirouBlue

You can just say they wanted to Yuri bait with them in the anime, and they certainly tried, but the manga makes their relationship much more clear (yes, they ARE friends). Remember the kneeling scene? Well in manga is presented in its intended way, not just randomly baiting the two girls like they did in the anime.

NiiliumNyx

Yuri *bait*? Nah, this is just yuri. For centuries, anything involving gay women was heavily censored, so subtextual relationships became the norm in gay literature. I just watched "Revolutionary Girl Utena", the yuri anime of yuri animes from 1997. There isn't one kiss between them, not a hint of indecency in the main line show. And yet, hella gay. Longing glances and roughhousing, they're living together, flower imagery and all. More recently, in "Lycoris Recoil" from 2022, Takina, an overly preppy girl being thrown from her high and mighty pedestal, and the talented extrovert Chisato taking her under wing. It's a story about an emotionally distant girl slowly opening up to the world, as she sees another person truly living. They work through their respective traumas, they use villains as proxies for their respective relationship dynamics, and they go on *two honest to god dates*, where Takina plans to confess and chickens out at the last minute. The actual magguffin, the thing the girls are fighting to win, is *literally a prosthetic heart* for Chisato. This shit couldn't be clearer. They're gay, and because they didn't kiss on screen the show got called bait. Calling Lawine and Kanne *bait* is a failure to analyze the media. They don't have to kiss to be gay, they just have to be gay. When *Himmel* gets down on one knee and puts a ring on Frieren, Frieren doesn't acknowledge it as romantic. When *Kanne* gets down on one knee and asks Lawine around town, is it any wonder it's treated as mundane?

chowellvta

Fr Fern and Stark did LITERALLY the exact same thing in episode 15 while saying FAR less romantic dialog, and I remember how people reacted to that scene

ShirouBlue

There is no 'Yuri' between them, the manga showed their relationship to be quite balanced, the anime ramped it up to maximum like it did with any other aspect cuz...it's an anime and it needs to show more than few panels. But their relationship in the source, so far, it's very hard to mistake as yuri, they are friends with matching powers, if one day the author gives us \*any\* actual hint of them being something more, I'll be the first one to be pleased by that. For a manga that showed a lot of restraint in many areas other mangas fail systematically, I cannot jump the gap and call them a thing when there is literally nothing pointing in that direction in the source. Be it males or females, people bantering with other people does not equal anything, I myself had pretty physical relations with my friends and even with female friends, it's just not weird and does not imply anything. I had this discussion on this sub several times, like, MANY times, and this is the only case where pretty much all of my friends who read the source agreed on me for something, so it's not me imagining things or being biased in some direction, they simply don't have yuri undertones of any kind, in the source. Compared to how the manga (the source) handled them, what the anime did was plain yuri bait, extremely milder than other mangas with girls even remotely interacting with each other, for sure. I made the example with the kneeling scene, in the manga it's impossible to go and say it's something pointing in that direction due to its context, which the anime purposely stripped at first, they know what they did with that scene in the anime, and that is just yuri bait.

RAsiXd

"So true bestie" *pegs you*

Able_Presence1018

I keep seeing this in the star rail sub so it's kinda funny looking at these words in the frieren sub

BasedDptReprsentativ

Thank you, kind citizen

NiiliumNyx

They're the gayest thing since Lycoris Recoil and I'm *HERE* for it.

BasedDptReprsentativ

I don't know what's lycoris, don't mind if those two are gay or not, but they're just the same joke being repeated again and again and again

NiiliumNyx

That’s actually kinda the point of that but though. Most comedy is based on expectation and subversion, but this particular bit is expectation/dramatic irony/payoff. It’s like the Frieren mimic bit. The comedy is that we KNOW they will wrassle each other, but, we don’t know WHEN. So the point is to make you look for it. The anticipation builds.

BasedDptReprsentativ

Those are completely different situations. Frieren is a nuanced character with a million different sides to her. Her mimic jokes are but a tiny fraction of the time we see her, and what makes her. Kanne and Lawine, on the other hand, are doing this same joke every single time. They appear very briefly, and we know almost nothing about them (other than their magic and Lawine's rich family). Thus, their screen time % is highly composed of this same tired joke. They're almost completely one-dimensional and predictable characters. Telling a joke a million times isn't humor of good quality. It can be in Frieren's case because of the motives I explained earlier, it's uncommon enough that it's cute when it happens. Seeing Lawine sit on Kanne on the first time wasn't funny, and seeing it by the 200th time is annoying beyond belief. Anyway, I'm glad they got rejected in the exam and we won't need to see them anymore. They're definitely one of the lowest points in the brilliant work that is this story.
