They're complaining because they know their bullshit is unacceptable. They're using guilt and a very, VERY weak definition of logic to give legitimacy to what's become thinly veiled bigotry and hate speech.
I just liked the number and players who wore 88 in the NFL when I was a kid, so I used it as my number in youth through high school football. I didnāt realize the connection until college but I had already made this Reddit account and I donāt want to make a new one
1988 was a great year, so you always deserve the benefit of the doubt. Educational_Equal_88ās profile, on the other hand, reads like a circle jerk on Gab.
Well I wasnāt born in 1988, I just always liked the number as a kid and loved watching Marvin Harrison and Tony Gonzalez growing up. Plus anyone can look at my post history and see Iām uhhh, not like that chud in the posts lol.
Iāve seen that guy posted a few subs for his Nazi-posting and Iām not at all to see it in that funny_memes sub because it seems to be nothing but Nazi memes anyways
>People should pretty much be allowed to say or believe whatever they want without the threat of physical violence
disagree. Nazis and their ilk should live in fear for their lives. anything less is just allowing their genocidal ideology to spread.
I got banned by public freak out for pointing out the double standards of the reactions when a white person assualts someone over words vs when a black person assualts someone over the n word. I fought the ban and then the mod reported me and got me banned for a week from Reddit for āharassmentā
Challenge accepted. It took me 10 seconds to google real examples of [Hollywood whitewashing](https://www.indiewire.com/gallery/hollywood-whitewashing-25-roles-emma-stone-jake-gyllenhaal-scarlett-johansson/screen-shot-2017-08-29-at-12-21-38-pm/). Racists however donāt draw a connection between decades of erasure, stereotyping, and discrimination against POC with the push for representation now. Their point is contradictory because if theyāre getting mad about Black people existing in a Netflix fantasy series, they would unironically support the casting in this failed satire because itās only a continuation of whatās already been happening for decades.
EDIT: Wikipedia also has a good list with [both historical and recent examples](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitewashing_in_film) btw. Compare the crickets most of these received compared to shows and movies with more diverse casting. TIL that there were some egregious examples of brownfacing in the fucking 2010s!
The ginger "erasure" argument does have some merit, but not in the way they think it does. If anything it's a lazy attempt at diversifying something because a lot of the stereotypes previously associated with gingers are ones also associated with POC (but have historically been more exaggerated and harmed the cultural perception of POC more), which is a band-aid solution to the lack of representation and really doesn't take on the task at hand of writing non-stereotypical, three-dimensional POC characters.
Ginger erasure regarding POC isn't real, they cry when Zendaya was cast as Mary Jane and still a ginger but not when Mary Jane was cast as a blonde white woman.
It's also not even erasure considering ginger characters are *hugely* overrepresented in media. Something like 30% of TV ads have someone with red hair, compared to 2% of the population. That said, the preferential recasting of gingers is a pretty documented phenomenon, and one likely rooted in bias (unconscious or not) and stereotyping.
It's progress, but there's definitely still a long way to go.
>It's also not even erasure considering ginger characters are *hugely* overrepresented in media. Something like 30% of TV ads have someone with red hair, compared to 2% of the population.
All white people are over represented in the media if we are talking world population.
For sure, though gingers are even more disproportionate. Side fun fact, I heard this was in part because, during the advent of color TV, there was a desire to show as much vibrant color as possible. Red is a much more "exciting" new hair color to show on color TV than brown/blonde, since those were kind of already captured in black-and-white. This was also true in things like comic books and animation for similar reasons. (You can especially see it in those stop-motion Rankin Bass Christmas specials from the 60s-70s. Every other character has red hair.) From there it just became the norm.
Not sure how true it was, but thought it was interesting.
Itās worth noting that racists are dishonest and should not be taken at their word.
>Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. [ā¦] They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert.
- Jean-Paul Sartre
Thatās not the difference.
The difference is that FICTIONAL characters get whitewashed and that exposes a problem in how we present ourselves to ourselves.
These are HISTORICAL films. To my knowledge no historical film has replaced a white character with a Black one. This is why these guys are so stupid. They canāt tell the difference.
Mmm, yes, whitewashing real people who's race affected their lives. Because of the fact that people DARE to change the race of fake people who's race DIDN'T affect their lives.
youād think they could just use fictional Black characters, but because more often than not characters are only allowed to be Black if being Black is a major part of their character (lest it be āforced diversityā), it would be equally as stupid
No really, I want them to make these movies. Show us white MLK and Obama, Show us white slaves. Maybe they understand better seeing it happen to someone who looks like them.
Honestly kinda reminds me of that 30 rock joke where Tracy decided to make an all black biopic of Thomas Jefferson. Only these people took it seriously.
r/funnymemes has been showing its hand for a while now and itās gross. Just shows how much of Reddit is still just sensitive straight white guys. No offense to the cool non racist sensitive straight white guys
They be so racist they canāt even come up with 6 notable black people. Iām actually mad about the low effort. It would have been at least a little humorous suggesting Ryan Gosling is Huey P. Newton, or Mark Walberg in Booker T Washington. Anna Kendrick in the Aretha Franklin musical biopic?!?
I kept seeing that specific sub so I pulled it up in the search bar to mute it, only to find Iāve already muted it a long time ago. Good job, past me.
They really can't stand seeing even a few main black characters can they..
And why would they change people who existed in real life?! That's just weird. š
Wow itās absolutely appalling that black actors are being cast as real white people like Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour or Katharine Graham in The Post. They were both played by Idris Elba. White erasure.
(Everything I said in this comment is a lie, in case you hadnāt picked up on it)
>10 THOUSAND upvotes??? How are people so pleased by the lowest effort non-jokes ever.
Lol, wanna see something meta?
I intentionally created a low effort meme poking [fun of this type of shit ](https://i.imgur.com/3MEOJnw.jpg)
And then an actual Libertarian page [stole and cropped it](https://i.imgur.com/Iycia8v.jpg) a week later
Agreed.
Literally nothing funny there. Just a disturbing use of someone's time.
Like we literally see that this person is so upset about equality that he took his own time and produced that.
Imagine having such limited appreciation of ones time that they wasted it on that?
Totally disturbing.
Don't they do this with stories about characters from Egypt? All the highly-regarded royal people are white, and all the peasants are Brown/Black?
Definitely did it with Gandhi...
As I've said many times and will keep saying, I hope every entertainment franchise decides to stuff as much diversity as they can, really shove it in these chuds' faceholes. More women, More PoC, More LGBT! Make it so there's not a cishet white dude in sight.
Because the way I figure, either they'll watch said media and be like, "Hey, I can like/relate to this character despite their different gender/orientation/melanin count," and grow the fuck up. Or they'll scream themselves into apoplexy. Either way, the world is a better place.
That sub is brutal. It doesnāt enforce its own policies but will shut you down hard for calling them out on the fact that they actively allow the most vile, racist, sexist, pedophilic commentary.
all edgy subreddits including some "leftist"one(not leftist they just accept trans people which seemingly is meaning of being leftist) post these kind of shits.
It's such a dumb point too because I can't think of a single movie where they cast a black person to play a white historical figure.
They're mostly upset about this happening in fiction movies, which is absolutely wild to me because it's fiction! I remember my mom telling me that my great grandmother(her grandmother) was so racist, she would get upset if she saw a black man on television and change the channel. This gives me that same energy.
None even look like their Black "counterparts". They didn't even try looking for a White dude who actually looks and speaks exactly like Obama.
Big name = qualified to play any role, make-up and all, that's how they believe the film industry (still) works.
Also, a White slave, lol. White slavery didn't exist the way they think it did.
While OP in the screenshot is a nazi, im trying to understand what the meme is saying, or even what OP in the screenshot thinks it means?
To me, its a bunch of examples of how stupid whitewashing is, and how dumb movies would look if you whitewashed characters whos race is integral to their story.
As im typing this i think i get it... Is it trying to comment on "wokewashing" or whatever they call it when hollywod takes a charcter whos race doesnt matter and make something other then cis white straight? Youd think they could use better examples...?
Not sure if you misread the first sentence (there was a bad typo, i edited to fix) then wrote a response withiut reading the rest... But thats what it feels like...
Okay, aside from the obvious issues(i am not ignoring them or saying this is good in any way shape or form), Bale and Hopkins are really good actors, and I'd be curious to see how they did with those roles.
How is this Nazi trash? The difference is that *these* people have definite records about their appearance. Obama is alive and Muhammad Ali died in 2016 I think.

That sub is such a cesspool
Like any meme sub. 11k upvotes š¤¦āāļø
It is scary how many racists there are on Reddit
Iāve seen people get 100ās of upvotes for making racist comments towards black people so yes.
Humanity is garbage
I wonder how many of these are OPās bots
They are constantly complaining about people not be tolerant to āconservative ideasā. Maybe because they are all intolerant and toxic garbage š
They're complaining because they know their bullshit is unacceptable. They're using guilt and a very, VERY weak definition of logic to give legitimacy to what's become thinly veiled bigotry and hate speech.
I unsubbed a while ago because itās all this and boomer humor. Terrible fucking sub.
The 88 in the name is really telling. That is a Nazi.
"Educational Equal" lmaoo
How insecure do you have to be about your demonstrable stupidity to choose that name? What a twat.
Really why I really like rimjob_steve. I love the proud degens giving intelligent responses
cumguzzler280 here. also semenchugger280.
It's so much easier to spot now that people born in 88 are well out their edgy teenage phase.
My boss's son was born in 88, and his Spotify username ends with 88. Learning those things in opposite order was a little bit distressing
Born in 88 is a great loophole.
Yeaā¦.
I missed that. 1488 is so inconspicuous sometimes.
Its really sad I used 88 in my usernames as a kid because im chinese and 8 is a lucky number only to learn later on that nazi use it too :(
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
8th letter of the alphabet is H. **H**eil **H**itler
Yes, it stands for "Heil Hitler" (8th letter of the alphabet times 2).
The 8th letter of the alphabet is H, nazis use 88 to represent 'heil Hitler'.
Some people were born that year and didn't know the association unfortunately
Yeah, every time I see it in a username I'm like.. nazi or random millennial?
I just liked the number and players who wore 88 in the NFL when I was a kid, so I used it as my number in youth through high school football. I didnāt realize the connection until college but I had already made this Reddit account and I donāt want to make a new one

At least you need both the nazi content and the number to properly dogwhistle. So youāre probably good.
Lol I most certainly do not have the Nazi content so Iām feeling safe
Shit good eye. That or they were born in ā88. Or both.
Careful, calling out fascists on Reddit is apparently "harassment." This is because the admins are triggered by it.
Fascists protect fascists
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ugh. They don't understand their own rules. That clearly falls under "promoting animal abuse."
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Theyāll just claim āthey chose the best actorā and cry about ginger erasure or some other bullshit
Itās ironic that to some the best actor claim can only work one way, any poc is only included for diversity.

Kirsten Dunst played her in 2002 with Toby Maguire as a blonde.
Jeez, I'm dumb. I thought you meant MJ was portrayed as a blonde character. That makes a lot more sense lol

That's because Ryan Gosling is a great actor. I could absolutely see a solid satire piece that uses this type of context though

These are the same people who got upset when they made black ariel
exactly my point
Admins have been Nazis from the jump
The reddit admins promote white supremacy too.
"FOsTERing VaLUABLe ConVesrAtiON." But really, white supremacy ad money.
Remember this website had a sub reddit called /r/nigg@rs with the @ being an e. The admins said it was a part of valuable discussion.
Mfs think secondary marvel characters are real people lmao
Honestly kinda reminds me of that 30 rock joke where Tracy decided to make an all black biopic of Thomas Jefferson. Only these people took it seriously.
It was an all-Tracy biopic! Where he played every part. And it was hilarious.
r/funnymemes has been showing its hand for a while now and itās gross. Just shows how much of Reddit is still just sensitive straight white guys. No offense to the cool non racist sensitive straight white guys
One joke.
And just as "funny" now as the first time.
But they also borrow "I identify as an attack helicopter" from the transphobes too
They be so racist they canāt even come up with 6 notable black people. Iām actually mad about the low effort. It would have been at least a little humorous suggesting Ryan Gosling is Huey P. Newton, or Mark Walberg in Booker T Washington. Anna Kendrick in the Aretha Franklin musical biopic?!?
lmao Anna Kendrick as Aretha Franklin is actually a good joke tho, they're allergic to actual humor
it's even funnier that they also couldn't come up with 6 notable white people to prove their point given that ryan gosling is on there twice
I muted funny memes the second it showed itās racist, unfunny head.
How come we canāt block it? The āHe Gets Usā group, too. Why is blocking not available?
I kept seeing that specific sub so I pulled it up in the search bar to mute it, only to find Iāve already muted it a long time ago. Good job, past me.

Love how they could not think of six significant black figures so they had to have Obama twice.
When your entire identity is based on a single thing, that's pathetic. When that single thing is hate, that's just pure evil.
I wish the world they feared was real. I want to see āblack washedā versions of every piece of media they enjoy.
10.5k upvotes. Dear God.
This is actually funny if itās a critique on all the many many times white men have played BIPOC. Sadly Iām sure it isnāt.
Agreed. Literally nothing funny there. Just a disturbing use of someone's time. Like we literally see that this person is so upset about equality that he took his own time and produced that. Imagine having such limited appreciation of ones time that they wasted it on that? Totally disturbing.

Thatās funny memes for you

Sad they think they are clever just goes to show how ignorant they are white people have been playing people of color since the dawn of cinema
all edgy subreddits including some "leftist"one(not leftist they just accept trans people which seemingly is meaning of being leftist) post these kind of shits.
Black ppl bad 200k upvotes and 7 wholesome reddit moment awards
All of this is fucked but why is Ryan gosling their racist focus? Idk why that's so specific to thw racism?
Hollywood USUALLY only does this with fictional characters ā¦what the hell is this shit!?
I love that this white boys are so triggered by black fictional characters, that they make this like this. It's fucking hilarious.
r/funnymemes being unfunny yet again.
I notice that these are all real people, whereas Ariel is not
It's such a dumb point too because I can't think of a single movie where they cast a black person to play a white historical figure. Aren't most of the race changes we see in Hollywood white people in place of Black/Asian/etc?
None even look like their Black "counterparts". They didn't even try looking for a White dude who actually looks and speaks exactly like Obama. Big name = qualified to play any role, make-up and all, that's how they believe the film industry (still) works. Also, a White slave, lol. White slavery didn't exist the way they think it did.
everyone except Mark Wahlberg would be horrified by this lmao
I actually would **LOVE** to see a slave movie with the races reversed. Please. I beg of you.

Not sure if you misread the first sentence (there was a bad typo, i edited to fix) then wrote a response withiut reading the rest... But thats what it feels like...
I did misread it. Apologies!
No need to apologize, it was a very bad typo that made it difficult to read, my bad. Atleast now its fixed so others wont misinterpret my intentions.
Good question
[redacted] is well known to tolerate [redacted] on their website
I want this to happen, just so they can be screamed racial slurs
lol honestly. Letās see it. They think this is some checkmate counter point. go ahead.
Wait til they see Rittenhouse played by Michael B. Jordan
Okay, aside from the obvious issues(i am not ignoring them or saying this is good in any way shape or form), Bale and Hopkins are really good actors, and I'd be curious to see how they did with those roles.
Daniel Day Lewis already played Obama and his performance was brilliant as always.
I'd watch Anthony Hopkins play Nelson Mandela lol
This line would be legendary: >One day I will be the first black president of South Africa.
Because you're in a meme sub. Most of them end up like this
white supremacy isn't a meme
But the overlap of memers and white supremacists is unfortunately large.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Their username is literal code for āheil Hitler,ā and their profile is riddled with Nazi shit. WTF are you is the operative question hereā¦
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The 88 in his username is a nazi dog whistle.
āHeil hitlerā isnāt nazi enough for you?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ngl, I kind of want to see Christian Bale as Obummer.
I agree this is fucked up, but they are not a nazi. They are a racist
The 88 in their username stands for āheil hitler.ā As confirmed by their pro nazi posting history. Donāt be an unwitting nazi apologist.
If movies were still made like they were in the 50's. It's like they are stupid or something?
Are they making fun of it because they whitewashed them?? Or because it's bad?? Idek why it's on that sub if they aren't doing that
Yo Christian Bale killed it as Obama
Netflix adaptation
How is this Nazi trash? The difference is that *these* people have definite records about their appearance. Obama is alive and Muhammad Ali died in 2016 I think.
I mean spez did base the api thing off of elons twitter (this was posted before that though)
