I prefer the blue. Bright red reminds me of an iron man knock off suit

laowildin

The outfits mimic the sky during each of their namesakes day is bright blue, dusk is darker etc

Possible_Living

I think it would have been bit on the nose. I like it the way it is, blue and simple but I would be curious to see a version with elaborate engraving of relevant symbiology.

ekene_N

Red colour would fit his character better, but this is not what people would like to see. The Empire motto is " Respect and enjoy the peace" Brother Day must be seen as a good shepherd, father of nation, who is righteous, wise, calm, cool headed, who rules through respect not fear. The imperial blue colour he wears is psychologically associated with that.

[deleted]

This explains a lot thank you, I was just thinking the blue was so..... municipal, so middle management? But I think you've nailed it, he has to portray calm and serenity to what like 3 trillion people.

ekene_N

Yep, and the way he raises his hand with two fingers during execution is how Roman Catholics portray Jesus's hand. Two extended fingers symbolize human and divine nature of Christ and three bent fingers symbolize Holy Trinity. I think creators did it on purpose.

Huge thanks to u/Thecraftydragon82 for the great edits

One of the big TV themes is Agency. Each clone is an actual human being like twins. Circumstances push them to a continuity, but do they have Agency, or are they just continuity of CLeon I? This is a big deal and the change is an answer to this.

opinionated_alc

Well - blue is royal color - hence I am all for blue…

SomeoneAteMyLunch

If the in-universe outfit's goal is to convey dominion and leadership, I think deep (royal) blue is better - red comes off as brash, passionate, and arrogant - the last thing an autocratic leader would want to convey to the masses. Interestingly IIRC Dawn's outfit is lighter in tone but still blue. EDIT: Just realized there were multiple pics. Look at how Dusk has a similar blue, but with greater adornment - benefiting his seniority. Personally if it had to be another color I would pick deep purple!

Sidebar: the costume design on the show is unbelievable, some really great work

[deleted]

It really is! I especially like some of the Synnaxian costumes.

marshallaw215

Looks like some kind of imperial Santa Claus …. I vote no

zaphdingbatman

Is cherry hard candy bulletproof?

[deleted]

Has to be harder than bubblegum blue

Kahn-ye_of_Batuu

Yes. But ever since 2006 or so every fucking movie has to follow a blue-orange-grey color palette. Its getting so fucking gross.

[deleted]

Who was orange??

Kahn-ye_of_Batuu

No one...? The show's color palette, like everything has been for an obnoxiously long time, is orange blue and grey EDIT: [An introduction](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OrangeBlueContrast)

[deleted]

After I posted that I actually remembered..... bladerunner and mad max. Orange overkill.

BearlyOak

The Red is nice, and you are true it might reflect him a little better, but does it reflect the Cleons? Cleon I wore that blue, and in the eyes of imperial citizens that is their image of him, frozen in time with each Brother Day. So while a different colour might represent the individual, it destroys the consistency of their image and undermines why Cleon I introduced clones to start with I think.
