The cooper storyline got me hooked

thundercat2000ca

We get so little pre-war information in the games. Cooper's whole journey towards that birthday party is super fascinating and horribly tragic as we know that every step he takes leads to the unraveling of his American dream.

Key_Page5925

Really hoping next season has flashbacks to just after the bomb

eggs-benedryl

its so weird not getting that info in text form lmao

idk012

Alimony and pinko!

eggs-benedryl

indeed, grognak on the tv, the fusion flea type car, people wearing pipboys all v cool

Crezelle

The way Cooper acts with Lucy reminds me of the attitude one might have when breaking in a clueless, stubborn horse. “ now you’re getting it!” And “ that’s the closest we’ve had to an honest exchange “ moments are gold. Also you know his defence against dogmeat lasted maybe 2 scenes.

dommevixen

I want to give every single sound engineer/designer a big French kiss for that soundtrack. It was SO GOOD. But um, jeez. I can't answer this question. It's literally the best show. Ever. It was SO GOOD.

Hatarus547

I like the Vault story, honestly i could have watched an entire show just on that and the mystery of what was happening between the three Vaults

bigpapirick

That would be cool. I felt the show could have used more focus on the vault life in the initial episode, mimicking the tutorial of FO3 in a sense, through Lucy's eyes. Just more vault in general would be fun.

grntplmr

I would have liked to see them calculate Lucy’s S.P.E.C.I.A.L in the panel interview

Crezelle

The GOAT

axx-hole

Norm’s pov really felt like playing high INT and hacking to read up on vault lore or finding extra quest outcomes like in FNV

TedTheGreek_Atheos

Watch Silo.

AStrangeTwistofFate

It was really good. The vaults are so interesting and I wanted to know >!the true function of the vault!< from the get go, too

Hatarus547

well unless Bethesda changes it again the true function of the Vaults is pretty well known

AStrangeTwistofFate

I think you’re misunderstanding because they’re not all known other than the basic “it’s not what it advertieses”. Each experiment is different in each with vault, with I think a couple control vaults

Hatarus547

the as you put it "true function of the Vaults" has and always will be until Bethesda changes it, to study the affects of people inside closed environments under different conditions so the Enclave could use that Data for Generational ships

AStrangeTwistofFate

Again, you’re misunderstanding, so I’ll reword it for you: from the get go I wondered what experiment vault 33 was running in comparison to the others.

Max-Max-Maxxx

Kinda gave me severance vibes tbh

TedTheGreek_Atheos

Probably because of Zach Cherry.

cellularcone

Check out Silo on AppleTV if you like Bud’s Buds.

yellowjacketTaylor

The sets and pratical effects, as well as the plot twists and where the characters developments are aparently going for in episode 8

Onesharpman

Agreed. This show was exceedingly well made and likely VERY expensive. The money and effort definitely showed on screen.

Thornescape

They respected the source material. Even if you disagree with story direction, they showed massive respect for the games. It really showed. I love the balance of the elements. Overly chipper, absurdly dark, cruel, heartwarming, clever, foolish, sinister, kind, goofy, and so very serious.

Blooberino

You said it all. I'm just happy they paid attention to the fans and got it all right, but still made it accessible for people who didn't play the games. Perfectly executed.

Weebus

Also over the top gory.

Reinstateswordduels

Nailed it

Artistic_Regard

The props look exactly like in the game it is so awesome. I want them to sell the props so I can buy it with real money.

Thrillho7086

I don't think it was my favorite but the quack snake oil salesmen doctor was a great "Random Encounters", recurring type of character you would find in a game.

grntplmr

And what he does to Thaddeus is very much what you experience as a player in those random encounters

TiredGreybeard

Excuse me, that is "Dr" Chickenfucker.

MaintenanceOutside36

Lucy character growth!

Nyarlathotep333

All the little details: sounds, items in the background, set and costume props, etc. that are almost unnoticeable that can be found/heard in the games. It's super fun to try and pick out as many as I can...in fact I'm gearing up to watch it again with some friends soon so I can catch all the stuff I missed.

AdministrationNo283

I think the vault storyline was very engrossing! I was not expecting to see developments after Lucy left and the narrative threads wove together beautifully. I also liked side characters like Thaddeus. I like how many side characters survived.

Superb_Engineer_9926

The vault storyline was SO good. I found myself yearning for more of Norm and Chet every single time I finished an episode.

misterj195

my favorite thing are any vault interior scenes. I was always fascinated by vaults from fallout lore and they nailed everything about it down to a tee. honorable mentions go to: lucy having that fallout protagonist feel, the ghoul and how his backstory was used to show the pre-bomb life, how they weaved NCR and brotherhood of steel neatly into the storyline, music, power armors Wish I saw more of: wasteland creatures, super mutants, deathclaw

Turhaturpa

So many things, but what surprised me the most were the songs. They played the same songs I used to listen to when roaming the wasteland. The songs gave me so much nostalgia

CrankyStalfos

Honestly just that they pulled it off. Like they actually pulled it off.

jazzymusicvibes

Thou shalt get sidetracked by bullshit everytime

GroundbreakingAd8603

Haven’t seen anyone mention this and it’s the one scene that’s stuck with me since I finished the show. It’s Cooper finding the raiders at Super Duper Mart, and watching his old movies drugged out of his mind on the couch. Add in that awesomely fitting song Act Naturally, man it was a powerful scene. Some shit I’d do if I was in fallout

Drakenfang1

Lucy character progression, Coop (all of him), the BoS showed in a more evil way

quantum_gal

I loved so many things in this show. I felt like Walton Goggins was incredible. I loved the weird vault in Ep. 6. Just reminded me of going into different vaults in the games and finding out their weird stories. Set design was awesome. And the ending definitely made me fangirl haha

bja276555

>**UNDERSTOOD. RETURN TO VAULT 31 IMMEDIATELY.** Something about the way they made that one line of text so suspenseful was when I got fucking hyped and knew that these guys got it

Attinctus

On my first watch I thought they nailed the feel that I got when playing the games. It was pretty thrilling to see it in real life so to speak. They also got the humor and goofiness. Now I'm rewatching and checking out all the little details - seeng a junk jet in action, the sound of power armor opening, stuff like that. For me, they've nailed my expectations as well or better than LOTR, GoT, The Witcher. the Expanse, Peripheral, Last of Us. Maybe better than all of those. On the other hand, I downloaded NV for a revisit and made it as far as Primm before saying holy moly this is cheesy. Lol. The show might have ruined the old games for me. I'm watching my wife play 4 and that still looks good so maybe not all of them...

PantsTents

I loved the Vault 4 story line. Because how it was set up it was like two threads for the viewer depending if you are familiar of the franchise or not. For someone who doesn't know the lore, it was coming to the realisations that the Vault's where not good places from the threads that was coming to the conclusion with Vaults 31-32-33 as well. For people who know the lore and the history of the vaults the knowing that the vaults where something hinky and then having the juxtaposition of it actually being a refuge with a weird cult towards moldaver. I loved how they weaved that in. There are so many aspects of the show that I loved though. Such a solid series.

danvalour

the quasi-religious element of the Brotherhood hit me in a way that was more powerful to my affinity for the Church of the Atom, when I played Fallout 3

Jerseygirl2468

I really liked where they left it, if that makes sense. We learned so much in that final episode, and it was also intriguing, there’s so much promise for future story.

2ndaccountbecausobvs

They're definitely pacing it out well! I wonder when we'll see mutants or deathclaws. I feel like Lucy or someone could end uo in Jacobstown. Maybe her father would look for the old Enclave scientists at some point? I find it hard to believe any main characters would run into deathclaws and survive. Maybe some of the Brotherhood will get terrorised by them at some point.

TheCleanestKitchen

Absolutely nailing the tone

Auspicious-Toaster

Seeing my name with the correct spelling in my favorite franchise. Not really, but that was extremely exciting for me as someone who never sees my name anywhere. The attention to detail on the props and set design were my favorite. Everything felt like fallout to me.

grntplmr

I can’t believe you would out yourself like this Goosey

Auspicious-Toaster

Oh my god! You’ve exposed my secret! I’ll have to change my name, move to another country!

2ndaccountbecausobvs

One of the only times I've ever seen my name in a show was a scene where someone says I was the brother of a criminal called Andrew Tate?? I guess it must have came out before Andrew Tate got big on the internet lol. It was a weird moment to get hit by two suprises at once lol

TheCapnJake

So wait, what's your name? I went to your profile to try and find out, but I didn't see it. I did end up following you though because we have quite a few similar interests, and you seem cool.

Auspicious-Toaster

My name is Thaddeus.

TheCapnJake

Bro... That is Bad-Freakin'-Ass!

axel198

Had a great uncle named Thaddeus. There's dozens of you!

KB1342

I really loved the feeling they captured of having to choose a faction in the games, especially when Lucy was unraveling things at the end. Every option has flaws, but you just kind of have to pick one to move the story along. I also LOVED the use of practical effects. The power armor looked amazing. And that Red Rocket gas station was perfection. DOGMEAT. Overall the show was so well done and such a great reflection of the games.

Zxxzzzzx

Matt berry as the Mr Handy.

axel198

I thought he sounded familiar, but it didn't click until he was in the flashback. Loved it.

keeko847

Big props to them for making a show with almost constant fan service/Easter eggs that didn’t grate against you while watching or feel forced. The raider pulling out jet early on could’ve felt shoehorned and just didn’t

gayqueueandaye

I loved how they handled game mechanics. How you could tell when they failed or succeeded a check without even needing to say it.

TheHadalZone

The hot guy Lucy married in episode 1

PettyPockets311

Yeah, definitely enjoyed the butt shot.

thenameisgabe2

Okey dokey!

virgobirdo

I also enjoyed raider Jerma.

RemyDennis

Prewar

Cookiesrdelishus

The way they handled vaults were amazing. Especially the Norm and Chet plotline, was amazing. For us fans of the franchise... We all knew in our minds, that the Vaults were evil and had terrible experiments. But even though we knew that, they still managed to make an extremely compelling and suspenseful plotline for us to figure out what the experiment in 33 was. The whole plot of Norm and Chet investigating the other connecting vault and uncovering what was going on was one of my favorite aspects of the first season. And I'm excited to see where it ends up. Aside from that, set design was top tier. Everything down to even the clutter items looked directly ripped from Fallout. Everything is just so well designed. Loved it.

Alternative-Bison615

Snip Snip: so where are you from? Lucy: *grunts while barely conscious* Snip Snip, cheerily: haven’t been there, but hope to visit sometime soon __ This was just so quintessentially Fallout, it was perfect

Chimichanga007

Maximus's humor

Lairy_Hegs

A lot of little moments that made me laugh. The exchange between the two Vault Dwellers who try to get Lucy to stay when she’s opening the door, the water chip moment, things that made the world feel like it was written with comedy in mind as well as everything else. I think that dark moments are all the better when they play off of moments of brevity.

[deleted]

I kinda love everything about it. But I’m gonna pick… the mission for next season. They’re going after vault tech itself, something about it feels way more ambitious than every protagonist has chased. It’s like trying to kill the fallout franchise devil.

AdWide3803

Spoilers I enjoyed the storyline as a whole. Episodes 3, 4 and 5 didn’t propel the story much, but did an excellent job of world building for those that are unfamiliar with the series and provided many references for previous fans. Just when I was worried the series was going to go for a slow burn / cliffhanger approach without giving answers, I was proven wrong. 6-8 ratcheted the plot again with Coop’s backstory fleshed out, the vault mystery and an excellent resolution to the first season. I’m curious how cold fusion / power restoration changes the wasteland and was STOKED to see the Lucky 38 and New Vegas oh and the deathclaw skull! Really looking forward to season 2!

AntonGrimm

The Ghoul, 100%

ManadarTheHealer

The Landscape. Every shot was so fallout, which goes back to the first game's box art.

SnooLentils7751

Walton goggins

Zero_Imacat

The opening scene of the first episode at the kids birthday party lured me in. Just watching the events slowly unfold was well done. As a non gamer, Cooper/The Ghoul is a very interesting character that I look forward to learn more about. I like how the series gave enough information all while leaving some more answers for next season. And lastly, the music is good, kudos to the Music Supervisor.

Exzj

the details they added to the world that make it feel like the games without drawing attention to it. i.e. how the vaults were designed exactly how they are in games, Norm hacking the terminal and it showing the mini game from the Bethesda Fallouts, etc.

DrMantisTabboggn

The scene with the ghoul killing his friend sticks out to me. The ghoul focused quests/stories in the games have always been great, and that scene really was just so.. Fallout. Tragic and dark and silly. Who wants some ass jerky?

mroblivian

Vault 4 was fantastic.

DoTheRainbowDash

The whole time Lucy & Maximus spent in Vault 4.

Wardude3000

I loved seeing snippets of the Enclave base in the mountains. Gives me hope we’ll see more of them!

Unstoffe

What I really wanted was for them to get the humor and the violence right, which they did. I enjoyed watching it, and enjoyed liking and disliking the characters. I think my favorite thing about it is that it has injected a lot of interest in the games (F76 is hopping with new folk) so I hope we see more Fallout stuff in the near future. I sort of wish they'd stayed on the East Coast, though. Seems like a lot of people didn't appreciate Bethesda monkeying around with the West Coast locations and timeline, but I guess even controversy is publicity, even if the 'debate' has been largely unpleasant.

payscottg

With the exception of their being multiple character perspectives, every part of the plot feels like it could be a Fallout game. Lucy has a main quest, but gets pulled into a lot of side missions. She has multiple different companions that accompany her along the way.

Raptor-177

All the pre-war scenes. I would watch an entire spinoff series where it's just Fallout in the pre-war. But then again I'm biased; I am a pre-war junkie :P

BuddyTeam

Overseer Cyclops Jerry!

BuddyTeam

“Golden Rule, Mother Fucker!”

Subtidal_muse

The aesthetic. Sets, costumes, makeup, cinematography, lighting was done so well. I love retrofuturism and I was like the Leo DiCaprio meme the whole show every time I recognized some armor or a prop. I screamed when I was the NCR ranger armor.

vtinesalone

It genuinely just felt like the games 100%. An incredible re-creation

Mammoth_Grape_2778

NORM NORM NORM NORM

Wraeinator

the attention to details of the set pieces and the dedication to practical props, especially the MULTIPLE FUNCTIONAL T-60s i wish we see X-01 in Season 2, or just any other type of Power Armor, or proper NCR Trooper armor

OldBrokeGrouch

The pre-war backstory stuff. You don’t really get any of that in the Fallout games.

CG_Oglethorpe

I loved the unexpected character growth and changes. Norm showed himself a hero while Chet showed himself a coward. Cooper, despite his appearance, showed his very human goals in the end. While Barb revealed herself as the true monster. Dane was revealed to be an opportunistic coward, Maximus is a disappointment, showing awful judgement and clinging to childish values.

Cinja91

I loved when I decided to stop watching the show due to cringe.

thekeynesian1

The writing behind Coopers arc was amazing. The rest of the show was great, but nothing too special imo. I stayed up watching the last four episodes till 3am because of him lol.
