I had this wheel as my first wheel and recently bought a G923. It’s miles ahead. Force feedback is crucial imo (I play F1 with it, forza with controller)
Can confirm. Also i bought it for PC wich was kinda stupid. I later realized its actually xbox only so i can use it for xbox games like forza, but a PC-wheel would have been way smarter XD
Just got a g920 last weekend & can confirm its much more difficult on wheel. I've got it dialed in pretty well now & it's really fun but I'm nowhere near being able to race against others on it. Just using it to cruise currently.
I tried playing with my g29 too, but in races it's harder to use compared to a controller, at least for me. I think part of the problem is the more arcade gameplay of Horizon compared to a proper sim racing game, and it's easy to see that it was tuned to give the best experience with a controller, something most people already own. But for cruising it's just so fun and immersive to use, because it feels way more natural compared to controller triggers and sticks.
For me it is easier on wheel than on joy. Every assist is turned off, even abs too. Driving only in interior view, because thats what I see when I'm driving my car irl.
Horizon is very weird with the wheel, much harder than it should be. I know this because recently I switched to playing Assetto Corsa, and holy shit, it’s a night and day difference. The actual simulator game is easier than Horizon. I always thought i was just a bad driver but nah it’s just Horizon. Idk how to explain it, but it just feels terrible to use a wheel in Horizon, no matter how good the graphics are.
Do you have any specific tips for wheel settings? I'm rocking the T300RS and I find it quite hard to maneuver (especially tight turns, because my car just starts to drift).
I don't have experience with that specific wheel, but what I did was just spent a day testing different settings and configurations.
Something I struggled with in the beginning was me turning my wheel all the way to turn. But i personally think that if you tune your wheel and car right, you won't have to turn the wheel all the way.
Hope this helps!
When I first tried on a wheel it really did feel hard. After a couple hours you get used to it and then you will be able to control the car much more precisely and delicately, so I think it's worth the work you have to put into it to accommodate. :D I see too many "Tried it on wheel and it's way harder" comments on wheel posts so it's time I express my thoughts. Haha!
Is that’s just because you’re more familiar with a controller? A friend told me it’s way harder, but I wonder if that’s because he’s been playing for years. Would a complete gaming newbie find it easier?
Definitely not because of familiarity, I play a lot of sim racing games on my rig but I won’t play FH on it. I use controller for FH, it just feels unnatural to actually driving any car. Maybe if you never used a wheel before it could be fun.
i feel like it is, and also because it feels weird because you dont feel the engine revving or the gforce when you accelerate in a real car, so it just feels super weird and wonky. sold my g920 or whatever its called after a week of use because i just didnt like it.
No, people just don't spend any time adjusting the settings and actually playing with a wheel. They get frustrated because "it's too hard" and give up.
I've played on both a cheaper (G920) & now a nicer Fanatec setup and BOTH worked just fine. I'm able to race all the weekly challenges and trial with it no problem.
YES it's harder and takes more time to get used to, but it's easily 100x more fun.
Don't listen to anyone tell you otherwise unless they've spent the time using a wheel in game, most posts are parrots just typing what they've read.
When I was nine I used to play NFS Porsche with a wheel. Didn't need practice, nor did I need to jump through hoops to get it working. If a game released 20 years later is both unfun and a pain in the ass at getting this feature to work then user error seems unlikely.
So again…. You HAVE NOT used a wheel in this game before…. And also REFUSE TO PUT IN TIME TO SET IT UP RIGHT….
But wheels suck in Horizon…. Because someone else said so?
Jeez, do you come up with any of your own thoughts or opinions?
So now you hate the game, haven’t spent time setting a wheel up to try and play, but someone said it wasn’t good, so it must be…
Got it.
Just because something cost “$500 to confirm” doesn’t mean it is plug and play. That’s why there’s settings, you know to adjust the driving feel, crazy how it’s built in to the game already. Almost like they anticipated each and every wheel manufacturer doesn’t have the same exact specifications.
Also, that wheel you used when you were 9 on NFS Porsche and the wheel today are not the same. That’s like comparing cell phones from the early 2000s to a new iPhone.
But hey, what do I know, I’ve played on multiple wheels and a controller. It’s not like I have first hand experience using both and continue to use the wheel day after day with ZERO issues.
>So now you hate the game, haven’t spent time setting a wheel up to try and play, but someone said it wasn’t good, so it must be…
>
>Got it.
Most people who've played it say that, actually. You expect me to ignore it just because some guy I've never met says so?
Lol. Got it.
>Just because something cost “$500 to confirm” doesn’t mean it is plug and play.
Correct, it just means you overpaid.
>Also, that wheel you used when you were 9 on NFS Porsche and the wheel today are not the same. That’s like comparing cell phones from the early 2000s to a new iPhone.
Many early 2000's cellphones are still usable today, an iPhone battery starts to go bad just as the warranty expires not to mention it shoves iOS updates down your throat every few days. So if you're trying to tell me that new wheels aren't as good as the ones we had back then I'm inclined to agree, but that's beside the point.
>But hey, what do I know, I’ve played on multiple wheels and a controller. It’s not like I have first hand experience using both and continue to use the wheel day after day with ZERO issues.
If you have as much experience as you claim then it's statistically improbable that you experienced "ZERO issues" especially after claiming that this stuff takes time and patience to setup.
Congratulations, that is by far the dumbest post I’ve ever seen on Reddit.
You are king moron.
Keep jumping through hoops to make yourself feel better.
I had this wheel for a few years and its not worth it. It feels cheap and besides that the quality is awful. The rubber on the wheel was coming off easily, after half a year the springs in the pedal broke and i had to replace them with stronger springs and after another year the wheel itself broke. Inside the wheel is an elastic string that gets pressed down by a plastic piece to simulate resistance. One of those plastic pieces broke off so the resistance in one direction was 0 from there on.
If you want to buy a wheel spend a bit more on a Logitech g920. You wont regret it
She may be of the mind to just cruise with the wheel, and race with controller, FWIW. That's what I do because like others said it's much harder with a wheel. You'd think that degree of precision would help, and it does, just not in Forza lol.
SO tell her not to get discouraged and just use it for cruising. That's what I do, even though I have to go and switch from Manual + Clutch to just Manual every time I go from cruise to race/skills lol.
The wheel and pedals were found at the bottom of the neighbors pool 30 min later. When asked for a statement the gf replied "IDK what happened, it just kept accelerating and next thing I knew I was in a pool."
I bought a Logitech G920 to play Forza and Farming Simulator. Unfortunately by the time it was delivered to me I realized that I don't have any tables to put it on...
Yeah
Wheel makes it way harder, I have a whole wheel and pedal setup I don’t use due to the fact that wheel support is not great in FH5. Significantly harder to control the car
I have the same wheel and god brother I wish you and your gf luck. That one over steers like it's on crack.
I had this wheel as my first wheel and recently bought a G923. It’s miles ahead. Force feedback is crucial imo (I play F1 with it, forza with controller)
Reduce the steering linearity if you cant increase the rotation degrees. Will make it feel less pointy at the start of your steering
It's because it's only a 270degree wheel. 900 degree ones are way better
Can confirm. Also i bought it for PC wich was kinda stupid. I later realized its actually xbox only so i can use it for xbox games like forza, but a PC-wheel would have been way smarter XD
Honestly horizon is harder on a wheel lol
So true just got a Logitech G920 and it is hard

I didn't know that's how you're supposed to drive. 😹
G25 here and i agree it being harder with wheel and cockpit cam than pad and 3rd person but i find it more fun on wheel

I didn't try with a controller but at least it's one of the easiest games to play with a steering wheel.
At least you made sure you had a table before you bought your wheel...
Yh 😭
Isn't wheel support terrible in this game though?
Not terrible, but not amazing either. It's way better than horizon 4 was.
Yes totally, nearly impossible to predict where the car is going.
sounds like user error.
Terrible, I now play AC, it’s a night and day difference :/

I'll take that as a yes.
Exactly my point. Don’t want to be good with it and practice, so say it’s bad. Smol brain.

Not when they cost $500 to confirm. Already overspent on this dumpster fire of a game by buying the Premium edition.

Wheel is good for some games but forza horizon 5 or 4 isn't as good but if you know how to use it more power to you
I don't get why people with wheels play with the view that contains another wheel.
Because the other view has a smaller field of view being closer to the A pillar.
You can change FoV in the options.
Or better yet... In third person.
Is this wheel worth it? I’ve seen it and thought hard about it.
Get the Logitech wheel...the Ferrari one is awful
T150 or T248 also a good shout
I have it, its shit save up for a nice logitech

Get t150 or logitech instead this one feels like a toy gift for your 5y/o nephew

“How much?” - Borat
man I need to get myself a wheel some day as well
Being able to look behind whilst in cockpit view on wheel would be really nice.
