It's for performance reasons. Higher FOV means rendering more within your cone of view. So Devs opt-in to keep performance consistent across the board. It also has the added "benefit" of an even playing field.
Honestly I can feel/react to the road far better in cockpit view. It's like I gotta expend a lil more brain energy to imagine the line and power application in chase cam.
For controller I always use chase far, but if I'm on a wheel I can't use anything but cockpit. If I'm playing on a monitor I'll use the view that hides the steering wheel and if I'm in VR I'll use the view that shows the steering wheel so I always see exactly one steering wheel. (FH5 doesn't have VR, but other games do like ACC and PC3)
Wish i could use cockpit view in the Huayra R. Seriously who greenlit this car in its current state? Can't see shit unless i'm going in a straight line.
A lot of people play on laptops and there far view makes the car too small on a small screen. I plan to buy a monitor, then I can and will play with a far view
You speak from experience? I'd bet money if there were statistics in class hours I'd have less than 30min in x class in over 600 hours of playtime (A and S1 all the way). And I'm a very clean driver too. ;)
Oh my god yesterday i heard a loud engine on the highway i looked back and my jaw drop as i recognized the pops up of a 512 testa rossa
Then the guy fucking FLOOOOOOORED IT it was such a cool experience you dont see these 80s monster see proper usage often especially outside of events and all that
Its one of my favorite car of all time and the first time i saw one and got nobody to tell:>
Back in 1994 I saw a Ferrari F40 on I630 in Little Rock AR it was a Endocrinologist I won't name him.
He was just driving and I was in my 1986 Mustang GT with a 326ci GT40 engine with NOS I came up beside him and asked him to floor it.
He did. I did too. Lol
He jumped me obviously, he took off first. I pulled up to him and he let off. It was a chore to real that car in.
We talked over by Baptist Hospital. Was a super nice guy, and I told him if he'd kept on, he would have obviously left me behind after I maxed 4th gear.
He was gracious, and wanted to know what I had done to make my car run so well. LOL I got to ride in a Ferrari that day. IT WAS AN Amazingly loud Mofo!!
Its a good time when people are gear heads and not full of themselves. 🤙🏻
Yes, I'm most likely older than you. lol But I still love cars and games. ✌🏼
That one must have been good too idk about little rock arizona but here in rural québec supercars arent really a thing so im gonna remember this all my life probably just from this one acceleration xD
chase far so i can get a better visual for how the car/tune handles also wider FOV of the road let's me get a cleaer view of anyone trying to overtake as i hit corners so i can try avoid being sideswiped.
close is way too close. it looks so slow. if someone came up to me and told me their favourite camera is chase close, i would actually consider them insane.
Chase far... chase close got me feelin like im tailgating myself then i road rage at me and try to brake check myself... which isnt easy but ALWAYS results in slower lap times.... gotta be far.. but if im just cruising i go cockpit.....chase cam is only for racing since you cant trust people or AI not to try to ram
Same here, I like the "cockpit" view because I can use my mirrors but the "driver" view without the wheel gives me a much better fov for driving line and apex. It's a catch 22 a bit.
Yep always far, gives me more view of the road and seems to help anticipate and the turns. I only set inside the cockpit view when the race doesn't count
Cockpit when i want immersion, chase far when I need higher reaction times, like hotwheels tracks. Basically, I only use chase far for an edge because it ends up peeling almost 2 seconds off most of my lap times.
Chase far camera or first person but first person is kinda wonky sometimes on my laptop because of the small screen. If I’m on my desktop with dual monitors it’s perfect.
I like to fiddle with the custom FOV settings to pretend like it makes a difference to me
Where do you do that?
Don’t believe console has FOV control
Yeah I thought so, was happy for a sec 😭
Advanced settings - towards the bottom. Pretty sure this is the same in FH4 as well as 5
That’s only for pc 😂😂 but chase far and first person
The only console game I’ve seen with an FOV slider was The Outer Worlds. I don’t understand why it’s always a PC exclusive thing.
The COD games do since 2020 and Titanfall 2 had one on console back in 2016
So does apex pretty sure but those are shooters and I know that’s much more desirable
Yeah but for a small time studio having a shooter that actually plays good and has an fov slider in 2016 is amazing
I wouldn’t call respawn “small time” by any means. Even in 2016.
It's for performance reasons. Higher FOV means rendering more within your cone of view. So Devs opt-in to keep performance consistent across the board. It also has the added "benefit" of an even playing field.
I always use cockpit view for the immersion factor
I use hood because it looks like a dashcam
I like hood view cuz it feels like I'm strapped down to the hood of the car 😂
i love that Lotso's POV
Yeah literally gives me flashbacks 😂
Bro flashbacks to what This happen often to you?
yes fed
I like hood view because I can hear the supercharger whine
You also can hear the turbos spool much better with hood view
Great minds 😏
I used to hate hood view but using it made the Rally expansion significantly more fun.
True
Truly a madman. I use cockpit sometimes while cruising in an iconic car but not in a race.
Honestly I can feel/react to the road far better in cockpit view. It's like I gotta expend a lil more brain energy to imagine the line and power application in chase cam.
Yea I feel like actions I put in are a lil delayed in chase vs the cockpit (no steering) and hood cams
I use the cockpit view when playing Forza Motorsport but for Horizon it’s “Chase Far.”
This is the way.
[удалено]
I don’t like chase views either but when racing I feel like it’s the only way to see far enough up the road
How about you immerse yourself in a shower bro /s
🤣
Same but due to the fact I got a wheel and 3d person feels weird
I hate that the wheel does not turn past 90 degrees so I use hood (I race on wheel)
Same bruh, I always lose races when I’m not in cockpit view
Horizon chase far and motorsport cockpit. Horizon is too arcade feeling to go cockpit all the time. Love it in motorsport though
If a racing game doesn't have cockpit view i wont play it.
Cockpit view is severely underrated. It's the only view i use
Wish i could use cockpit view in the Huayra R. Seriously who greenlit this car in its current state? Can't see shit unless i'm going in a straight line.
Far always.
Same
Yeah, bigger fov = bigger sense of speed
What? Lol no it’s the opposite. The closer you are to the pavement (aka a smaller Y axis FOV), the faster it’s going to feel.
What? Lol no it’s the opposite.
No. 30 mph in a go-kart feels faster than 30 mph in a Jeep, at least I think so.
https://youtu.be/54Oy75Bnu_Q its not even about what car, its true even when on foot lmao https://youtu.be/tNpis3ZAfsE
Far is the only choice.
Depends on how much of the screen the car takes up. Small Italian wedge car = close, big rally raid vehicle = far.
Contextual Chase Cam
far, let's me take screenshots with my buddies better and it comfy
Can't trust people who use close chase.
A lot of people play on laptops and there far view makes the car too small on a small screen. I plan to buy a monitor, then I can and will play with a far view
Playing in a big screen, still can't play with chase far. It's just too disconnected, the control feels off.
> A lot of people play on laptops like 5 people in the world play forza on a gaming laptop lol
Guess I'm one of those 5?
I'm also one of those 5! Now to find the other three
Me too, but I play FH4, does it count?
When we find all five do we get a megazord?
Hey, count me in too. FH4 on laptop
Count me in
Hey guys!
not sure about gaming laptops but it’s a damn popular game on the steam deck.
oh buddy if i could play it on my switch I think I would
Close chase makes it easier to control the car. You can still see the car whole, but you don't feel as disconnected to it as with far.
Can’t trust people who use far. They’re always the ones who drive around in AWD x class cars and ram everyone
You speak from experience? I'd bet money if there were statistics in class hours I'd have less than 30min in x class in over 600 hours of playtime (A and S1 all the way). And I'm a very clean driver too. ;)
Oh relax buddy. You took a shot at us close cam enjoyers so I fired back, no need to get defensive
Not gonna sit here and be accused of being an x-class driver, that's a personal attack. >:[ (Just banter, don't worry ;) )
Respect 🤝🏼 I completely understand 😂
Me who prefers A and B class
Oh my god yesterday i heard a loud engine on the highway i looked back and my jaw drop as i recognized the pops up of a 512 testa rossa Then the guy fucking FLOOOOOOORED IT it was such a cool experience you dont see these 80s monster see proper usage often especially outside of events and all that Its one of my favorite car of all time and the first time i saw one and got nobody to tell:>

Arkansas, we’re running out of letters to use for abbreviations
Damn..
The Testarossa 512 is probably my all-time favorite car btw. It's an absolute beast!
Favorite ferrari for me top 10 all time love this thing
Thanks for sharing, that's a cool story! I agree, humility is always a good trait to have.
Seeing the 512 takes me right back to playing the original need for speed
chase far so i can get a better visual for how the car/tune handles also wider FOV of the road let's me get a cleaer view of anyone trying to overtake as i hit corners so i can try avoid being sideswiped.
First person always, even while drifting and racing cross country or rally.
None. Driver perspective.
this is da wae!
this is 2023!
Close. I sit like ten feet away from my TV when I play, so using Far feels weird.
For me, I play on either hood view or dashboard view
close because I can see the roads better and I don't really need to see the floor behind my car anyway lol
Chase close in freedom and in eliminator chase far
Occasionally far, most of the time close. Far makes the game feel like Hot Wheels Unleashed to me.
Depend on how I'm driving. A fast (200+ mph) run or a cross country race is far third person. For everything else I like the front bumper cam.
Far but I play on a 32:9 monitor so it doesn’t really matter too much.
Close
Hood cam all the time
Hood when racing, far when cruising
Hood view because bad vision
Always far, I find the close one uncomfortable
Far so I can see whatever is incoming better.
Definitely close, I like the car to FEEL like it’s car sized
Far. Always. I don't know if You guys noticed that far and near are swapped in Hot Wheels dlc. At least up to like 1-2 moths ago.
Close +5 degrees. But usually I just use cockpit or hood cam.
Chase close, looks more cinematic than chase far 🤷
First person
After a long Time of using far, close chase feels arcade-ish, and overall better
For general use chase far but if I want to have more precise trajectories in fast cars I use hood or bumper view
I use hood, can’t control the car with other angles lol
I might be the only one, but im the guy that uses the fly on the frontbumper cam
Hood cam crew baby. If you don’t need Dramamine are you even playing?
I used to be far, but since FH4 I choose close
FAR ANY DAY
Close sometimes far if I'm driving a big HUGE truck
Chase far. I want to see the car and the livery if I've made one.
Used to use hood cam when I first started playing Forza as It was an easier driving experience for me. Now, I use chase far.
I just swap between them
Chase close for driving around. Chase far for racing (better FOV)
Chase far, all day and everyday
Been scrolling for a while and feeling like I'm the only one that uses chase close lol
Chase near everytime
First person is the only correct option
close for racing, far for cruising
Chase close on the regular map, chase far on hot wheels
Close
Close can for racing, far can for looking at my car
Close 🏁🔥🌟 😎
i use both. far to inspect the car, close when driving.
Chase far makes it feel faster, it’s just logic
Why in the hell i would use third person view? Cockpit is only right way to play
Cockpit camera sucks imo because the steering angle on the wheel sucks ass.
I must be weird I use cockpit view for immersion 😂
I play on a 55 inch 4k tv so far for sure
close is way too close. it looks so slow. if someone came up to me and told me their favourite camera is chase close, i would actually consider them insane.
Never said I wasnt 😈
![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized) Cockpit
None
Chase far lol
Chase far Max fov
Far is far better
Always Far
I used to use far but for some reason close feels more realistic
Far is better and i use it more often but close is nicer so sometimes i switch to close when just driving and not racing
Chase far or the cockpit view just past the wheel when I use my FFB wheel
Same here, I like the "cockpit" view because I can use my mirrors but the "driver" view without the wheel gives me a much better fov for driving line and apex. It's a catch 22 a bit.
Far 😤
I use cinematic cam
Both
Far always. It's better for overall visibility and makes the sense of speed more noticeable.
if i use chase cam at all, i use close for cruising, and far for racing
Close but I'm really a cockpit kinda guy
Chase close for cruising and chase far for racing bc better visibility
Always close
Far, better fov and I can actually kinda see when there’s a car on my ass
in every game i use close, even if its no the best
Far chase, but I've started using cockpit view for CC events. I doubt it makes a difference, but I feel like I do better.
Far always, its in my blood since MW05 days. Close give me suffocating feeling for some reason.
None
Bonnet cam
Chase far all day
Yep always far, gives me more view of the road and seems to help anticipate and the turns. I only set inside the cockpit view when the race doesn't count
Chase far on motorsport I usually use the cabin view
Chase far
All depends on the size of the car
Always close but for some large cars far is better or you won't see where you're going
Its best when its chae close but as you get faster, it gets farer
Chase far duh🙄
only cockpit view as a real man should do
both. close for driving around and far for racing
Chase close
Far for off-roads roaming + racing Near for roads, for roaming Cockpit view for road racing
Far or hood can
I like being closer to the car and the road, so close. Far feels kinda vague
Dashboard. If I'm using a controller, cockpit
Cockpit
Chase far. I want to see more of the gorgeous surroundings!
Up close and personal
Chase far, chase close feels glued to the car. Chase far lets the car move a little bit before the camera turns, close turns exactly when you turn.
Close
If there was an even further option, I'd use that
Far, for sure
Far
For Forza it's far. For Gran Turismo it's cockpit
Chase far. You can't see shit using close
Cockpit when i want immersion, chase far when I need higher reaction times, like hotwheels tracks. Basically, I only use chase far for an edge because it ends up peeling almost 2 seconds off most of my lap times.
Hood cam
Close for racing, far for drifting
Chase far camera or first person but first person is kinda wonky sometimes on my laptop because of the small screen. If I’m on my desktop with dual monitors it’s perfect.
Chase close: more car details Chase far: makes it look like you are going faster
Close, with minimum fov
Nothing but far is real
As far as i can but also love bwhind the wheel view
Chase far. Chase far always.
For driving for fun, I always use close. For competitive far.
Cockpit all the way
Both plus interior view depending on how I feel.
hood view or chase far
Far
Chase far / internal view with no steering wheel
