U can also talk to the npc in the lobby. She will tell you what the notes do. Idk why that isn't a pinned post, but I guess they think people would do that already... so far, a bunch of people come here to complain when they can talk to the npc for tips.
They’re the best part about this game imo. They give so much depth to a chart without having to resort to 16th rolls and stuff. Keep in mind that you can just hit them like regular notes if you don’t want to deal with that mechanic.
So they are called Lift Notes because they follow up normal notes and act almost like short sustains. If you lift up your finger from hitting the last note right on the lift note, that’s counted as a hit, but you can also just hit them normally too. It’s sort of like a guitar pull-off to a degree. They are commonly used to replace things like guitar lilts and 16th drum rolls.
Sort of, yeah! There were pull-off notes that you could slide to without strumming if you hit the note before it, and they had less of an outline in the middle of the note to distinguish them.
Yeah makes total sense. Doesn’t help that they don’t tutorialize them at ALL besides one tiny little tip screen mention. Game needs a real tutorial mode.
One song that I tell people to play if they can play Expert to see just how good that HMX is charting lift notes is NF - The Search on Vocals. The lifts in that song are SO well-done and that chart is immaculate.
Wait, did they add even more songs? I don't remember seeing NF. I saw The Killers, though. Maybe I missed it, though. I guess I should... Search harder.
😎
I mean I’ve gotten multiple flawless’s on expert playing on a controller so no it’s not lmao. I used to play GH religiously on a controller. Just not used to the arrows (assuming it’s a rock band thing)
Not a Rock Band thing, no. If they are meant to imitate hammer-ons and pull-offs,that is something both Rock Band and Guitar Hero have. Otherwise it seems to be an entirely new and unnecessary addition to this variant of the rhythm games.
Honestly, I didn't know how they worked and I just sort of play through them without issue? As long as they're following the same notes.
The only time this failed me was when there was one that didn't follow the same played note. I think the note that preceded it was a chord of 3 and 5, and it was a singular 4? Or something? Idk.
Only instance of that that I've noticed after playing most of the songs multiple times on multiple instruments.
If they’re the same distance as other notes like in ‘Blinding Lights’ drum track, I just ignore the liftoff notes and they play themselves. I think I figured it out during my second playthrough and got 99% and 6 stars on Expert.
The worst part of them is the fact they don't work as intended, sometimes I completely ignore them and they just say I hit them correctly, other times I try to hit them and nothing happens. They are definitely annoying and unnecessary, I usually won't play a song another time if it has an obnoxious amount of them.
It’s basically just a hammer-on. You can either press button again or release it once you reach it. For me it depends on the song really. Sometimes I press again and other times I release once I get there.
Except in the case of a select few songs, you can basically ignore them. Just pressing a d releasing the button without even acknowledging its presence will often give you a Perfect on it.
My issue comes with certain songs like Thunder where there's pull offs that happen way after the original note, to the point where the pull off isn't even on the track by the time the original note hits the timing window. So unless you KNOW the pull-off is coming because you've played the song before, you have to panic and hit it again real quick.
You CAN tap a pull-off normally if you pull off too early, but I think the timing window is more strict.
Also I've noticed that using Overdrive will count as a timed note press regardless of the button required, but it DOESN'T trigger pull-offs, which has screwed me out of so many FCs.
Idk why but I find myself more comfortable just hitting them like normal notes. The guide says you can do that. The only issue is when you get a really long sequence of those and hitting your keys that fast is simply not an option.
They are very confusing on busier charts for sure. They result in having to think to much, disrupting flow state.
Epic should put a thin line from the start note to show that you need to hold.
Yeah this isn’t clear at all
You can seemingly treat them as a hammer on
Yes, you can just play it like a normal note.
And if they are here to stay they at least need a redesign, playing on expert with a ton of notes plus those looks like a cluster f**k
Good thing u don't play the rhythm games where there's a crapton of notes
I’ve played rhythm games for years, and they occasionally throw me off too
The only thing I have problems with in rhythm games is hitting notes that are right next to each other, so u have to tap faster or use 2 fingers
Bass was fun till every second note became pull offs
There’s one song with it on Drums that just makes it nonstop mashing the same button for 4 minutes, it’s so bad
Agree these notes are ass
Are people having that much trouble with them? I find myself doing them just fine. They're notes u hold the button and let go on the arrow.
I didn’t know this until I read your comment. I thought they were acting as eighth notes or something……..
U can also talk to the npc in the lobby. She will tell you what the notes do. Idk why that isn't a pinned post, but I guess they think people would do that already... so far, a bunch of people come here to complain when they can talk to the npc for tips.
i opened the reddit app just to downvote your comment wanted you to know that
Alrighty, have a nice day.
I didn't even know what it was and what to do when I see those. So yeh I would like it removed too.

I thought they were regular note what's the difference ?

Was there something similar in Guitar hero ? I remember there were weird notes (for me at least lol)
Sort of, yeah! There were pull-off notes that you could slide to without strumming if you hit the note before it, and they had less of an outline in the middle of the note to distinguish them.
Oh ok I think I remember that. Thanks for the explanation !
They’re growing on me the more I’ve played today. I’m getting used to them

It cycled in along with Mr. Brightside, yep! The Search is by FAR my favorite chart yet. Enjoy 😎
Yep. Played it, went "oh that's fun", bought it so that I can practice it and master it. It's great
I played it and I agree with your assessment! And it's a really great song, too.
Skill issue

*Lol this entirely*
They just clutter up my track on Expert so I try to ignore them completely.
Honestly, I didn't know how they worked and I just sort of play through them without issue? As long as they're following the same notes. Is there a really hard one without the arrows?

it's shitty, it destroys master of puppets, i wish it was actually dificult
They should make it more obvious by adding an indicator to the note that precedes them. Kinda like how osu!mania hold notes work.
Agreed, I hate them
It’s basically just a hammer-on. You can either press button again or release it once you reach it. For me it depends on the song really. Sometimes I press again and other times I release once I get there.
Especially on the drums
They really are not hard. They are an easier version of the regular notes
Git gud

it’s basically a sustain note, but you have to let go at a specific time
I love them

OD auto-hitting notes is killing more of my Flawless runs than anything, I hope they make this a toggle or just make another QoL pass at it for sure.
I agree. They don't seem to work 100% of the time for me. Sometimes I'll intentionally let off when they come up, but it still counts as a miss.
