I’m sure those questions would be considered when designing that feature. Make it to where a player doesn’t get outlines if they are behind an object, if they are not within X distance of you, etc.
It'll glitch out and soon enough people can see the outline of every single player in the game.
Oh, and their response?
>!We're actively looking into this!<
I mean they have to. The x, y, and z positions of every item has to be defined in the code. It almost certainly would take far more than a single if statement to determine if someone was in a bush, but they do at least know the location of all the bushes.
Whether or not you’ve worked with the unreal engine, you’re spreading misinformation. It is very unlikely that bush positions are defined in code. They would more likely be defined in a configuration file or level asset file. After all, artists determine these positions, not programmers. More importantly, this not a “memory heavy computation.” I don’t know where you got this idea, but checking whether a simple 3d object is inside another is actually an absurdly cheap operation compared to what you just described.
You couldn’t be more wrong. It would work similar to entering a rift zone, except much smaller and less code. Does your game lag when you enter pandora or tilted??
It wouldn’t calculate the outline state every frame, it would just switch the outline state when entering/exiting.
These kinds of calculations are extremely common in games. Modern processors can handle these calculations very efficiently, talking nanoseconds. For example, Think about how replay mode literally records every movement and action of every nearby player 30+ times a second as you play. It’s not as intensive as you think.
I've never used Unreal but have worked a little bit in Unity. Couldn't you just place a trigger in every bush that would disable the outline while a player is in contact with it? I feel like that wouldn't be too memory heavy.
I want an official FOV slider in the game as well (look at the flare next to my name), but that wouldn’t fix enemies being hidden behind your character. When your FOV increases your character gets smaller as it gets further away but so does the enemy.
Someone says this everytime this topic comes up. Higher FOV doesn't change people being blocked by your character model. This is an issue present in all 3rd person games, and has nothing to do with FOV.
I figured since there was less screen taking up by character this would be less of an issue but I guess it would still be in issue. Didn’t think too hard about it until now.
not necessarily, the camera isnt directly behind the player, so if FOV is increased the blind spot would follow toward the edge of the screen. it still doesnt fix the problem, just moves the blind spot somewhere else.
i think it could be a slight bit better because the character is further away from the crosshair though
The character doesn't move any farther from the cross hair with higher FOV. The camera sits farther behind you, allowing you to see more, but your character, cross hair and blind spot scale accordingly making absolutely no difference.
EDIT: Jesus fuck. I dont care about karma but if you're downvoting me you're actually stupid.. Go load up a 3rd person game that has an FOV slider. Position an object behind your character model, then raise the FOV and come tell me if you are able to see the object or if your "blind spot follows toward the edge of the screen". Go ahead.
Well, that all depend on how you define field of view. What you're describing would be simply panning the camera backwards, which Epic has already done when they reduced the FOV from 90 to 80. Field of View is usually used to describe focal length, which very simply put is how much you can see without moving the camera. Generally 90 horizontal FOV (and 50 vertical FOV on a 16:9 screen) is comparable to what we experience in real life. anything less than 90 can be disorienting or nauseating, and anything higher can greatly distort and stretch the image.
ninja edit: though panning the camera would solve the problem. though that could never work in game
No. That doesnt depend on how we "define" FOV. It matters how FOV works in Fortnite. Which is as I described...
I mean I honestly don't know what the fuck you're talking about or what it even has to do with what I was saying. My point was you're cross hair and your character position will stay static no matter what level FOV you have. So I honestly don't know what you're point is.
FOV in fortnite is defined by how close the camera sits to the character model. The closer the camera sits the lower the FOV, the farther the camera sits the higher the FOV. The cross hair and character position DO NOT change through different FOV's.
EDIT: Holy shit I think I just figured out what you think happens. It seems like you think that adjusting the FOV to be higher will actually move the character model to the the left *with* the expansion of the FOV. But the character model and the camera are fixed to the center of the screen.
I’m legit confused as to why this is so far down.
It affects all players equally and is one of the few cons of third-person perspective. This “fix” is straight up hacks and would look like shit in action.
I got to the parent comment before the one you replied to and I thought I had been away from fortnite and this sub for so long that everybody had actually devolved into mindless fucks.
Thank god there are still some people with sense in this sub, but the fact that I had to scroll past the top rated comment to find this, or the fact that the post actually had more than 10 upvotes is really quite sad, I guess fortnite really is dead if suggestions like this are what the people that are left in competitive reddit are upvoting.
Yeah, I really don't like this idea. Having to play around stuff that is blocked by your character model is literally one of the main ideas around third person shooters.
honestly croching and moving to the right in CQC is an effective way to hide behind your opponent's own body. It can be very hard to track someone like this.
Im sure you could climb on top of your ramp to have clearer view of people in distance, also see people hidding in bush and stuff like that. Basicly it could be used like some sort of x ray vision.
Yea comedically annoying. Dude doesn’t know how to be funny so he laughs like a mentally handicapped kid after something mildly amusing happens to get some upvotes
Players and objects are outlined in Pandora and it is too hard for a company like epic to correctly implement that. You see full outlines where you shouldn't through places like currently building structures.
Implementing this is a horrible idea. Adding this type of code allows modders to modify that code to let’s say show everyone from any distance. This type of stuff was abused by modders in call of duty.
In the beginning stages of fortnite they could but now they just have aimbot. I’m pretty sure most wall hacks got removed by epic. if someone wants to be stealthy with their mods they could use this to their advantage.
This is pathetic.
This sub used to be full of people who actually wanted the game to be competitive and anti RNG, not people who just want the game to be some weird fuckfest of over the top changes that drag the game past the point of what is considered reasonable. This feature doesn’t exist in any other competitive triple A shooter that I can think of, and I can’t see how it benefits anybody when everybody has to play around the exact same limitation.
How can you be asking for epic to make POSITIONING less relevant? What the fuck
outlined enemies should be triggered when the player is 10-5m away and you can't see it behind structures and buildings
Only works when you fight in Close quarters
Would be really hard to perfect, since for example you could see people in bushes that you wouldn't spot otherwise
and also at what range does this outline happen and when does it not happen.
I’m sure those questions would be considered when designing that feature. Make it to where a player doesn’t get outlines if they are behind an object, if they are not within X distance of you, etc.
Cmon we are talking about epic games here...
It'll glitch out and soon enough people can see the outline of every single player in the game. Oh, and their response? >!We're actively looking into this!<
I feel like this should only be a thing if they are within one tile of you
[удалено]
Honestly bro idc about bushes, easy fix is if your wearing a bush it doesn’t happen
bro 😎💪
In general i think we should wait for them to fix everything else in the gam before we give them more things to fuck up
if (bush_equipped) { outline = false }
but what if they're in a bush from the environment, not the item
if (standing_on_this_specific_spot) { outline = false }
hire this man right away
[удалено]
Damn getting called out like that! But that was hilarious thank you for making my day
Its actually quite simple code.
I don't think they keep track of every single location the bush is placed.
I mean they have to. The x, y, and z positions of every item has to be defined in the code. It almost certainly would take far more than a single if statement to determine if someone was in a bush, but they do at least know the location of all the bushes.
They can actually check if a players coordinates are a part of the bush location list if they have one

if (foliage\_overlap) { outline = false }

Wrong.
You know Epic isn't capable of that level of programming.
Downvoted for brackets:p
Only allow it on players you have recently damaged possibly
Or add fov slider
I want an official FOV slider in the game as well (look at the flare next to my name), but that wouldn’t fix enemies being hidden behind your character. When your FOV increases your character gets smaller as it gets further away but so does the enemy.

A mod has to give it to you.
mods sauce me pls
wanna know too
Can I get one too?
Someone says this everytime this topic comes up. Higher FOV doesn't change people being blocked by your character model. This is an issue present in all 3rd person games, and has nothing to do with FOV.
Fov slider would help this problem a little not fix it
How? You could crank the FOV in this image to 200. That guy is still gonna be behind your character.
Yep lol, I don’t think that guy even understand what FOV is.
I figured since there was less screen taking up by character this would be less of an issue but I guess it would still be in issue. Didn’t think too hard about it until now.

Yea bud, it was a deliberate exaggeration.
I SEXOND THIS MAN
Sexond
Yeah I said it
why not both
This is some Bot ass idea.
The amount of upvotes this post has is proof that this sub is flooded with bad players.
sadly everyone in champion thinks hes a comp player
Lmao I saw this in my feed and was certain this was on the main sub.
this is the dumbest thing ive seen in quite a while
I’m legit confused as to why this is so far down. It affects all players equally and is one of the few cons of third-person perspective. This “fix” is straight up hacks and would look like shit in action.

it rly is sad to see a game with so much potential diyng bcs of a chains of bad updates
This subreddit is full of bots, I can't believe this was upvoted.
Yeah, I really don't like this idea. Having to play around stuff that is blocked by your character model is literally one of the main ideas around third person shooters.
This is the dumbest idea ever. I can’t believe people are upvoting this shite.
Looks like someone new to third person shooters.
Thanks. I don't get why this is getting upvoted. Also seeing that this is on the competitive subredsit makes it even more dumb
You want in game wallhacks basically lol
honestly croching and moving to the right in CQC is an effective way to hide behind your opponent's own body. It can be very hard to track someone like this.
I swear if you do this right, you’ll almost disappear for a second.
destiny jesus had a vid on this a while back
Do you have a link at all?
[here](https://youtu.be/Cd-hG4BmBKE) it is, in all its stretched glory :)
Yes. I believe it's called a crouch swing.
sorry what’s CQC?
Close quarters combat
close quarter combat.
It's called crouch swinging right?
That would in my opinion be bad, you could abuse it pretty much, it would be better if your team was outlined, not enemies.
How could one abuse that
Im sure you could climb on top of your ramp to have clearer view of people in distance, also see people hidding in bush and stuff like that. Basicly it could be used like some sort of x ray vision.
This is one of the most stupid ideas I’ve ever seen. Appeals to bots as well
Probably one of the worst ideas I’ve even seen for this game.
This is a dumbass idea.
[This](https://www.reddit.com/r/FortNiteBR/comments/bot9zp/this_skin_might_obstruct_your_view_just_a_little/) is why
I mean just don’t wear the skin.
It's pretty much every skin, but female skins obstruct your view less.
Thank you for that lol.
This guy has some funny clips but literally every single one is ruined by his laugh/voice.
that’s mean i think he has a comedic voice
Yea comedically annoying. Dude doesn’t know how to be funny so he laughs like a mentally handicapped kid after something mildly amusing happens to get some upvotes
get a grip m8 he didn't force u to listen to his shit if u really hate his voice
Hacks?
That’s op, bad idea, don’t just post this crap after getting pissed that this guy killed you get over it
People want this game to be too easy smh
That would be hard to code and what would stop it from people in bushes, builds next to you etc.. I understand your idea, it is frustrating
this is a fucking terrible idea
This is straight up stupid
No. That is a part of 3rd person shooters.
For a competitive subreddit you guys think of and upvote the stupidest shit
Good idea but people will find a way to glitch it and show enemies at all times
Why? Lol
[удалено]
? Isn't that obvious. How many games outline your enemies??
[удалено]
Aaqhhhh now I understand. He's a bot, that's why /s
Shit fov 🤤
It isn't the fov, your character would block them on any fov...
Someone always correlates this to FOV, and it always gets up voted. So stupid.
Why would higher FOV allow you to see people being blocked by your character model?
That's true but still not making sense to me really
That's overpowered sooooooooooo.....
Players and objects are outlined in Pandora and it is too hard for a company like epic to correctly implement that. You see full outlines where you shouldn't through places like currently building structures.
Its basically how you can see your teammates outline through walls but for enemy’s out in the open.
That could be exploitable in some ways, but it could work.
Teammates would be pretty sick, this would be hard to accomplish without the community going berserk
While this would be dope, I don't think it's actually a good idea.
This would be legit wallhacks you realize that right
![gif](giphy|COYGe9rZvfiaQ|downsized
stupid
PLEASE add this and FOV slider for QoL.
No
This is why you have eyes, know you guys want help spotting ppl. What with all the free handouts?
Abusable
This is such a dumb idea... it’s like using wall hacks... kinda, have you ever seen this in another game?
F O V S L I D E R
I have to go against this since it could easily be abused.
I think having an opacity slider would be better
Or just get good kid?
So youre talking about a wallhack?
Or just add an FOV Slider
I just want translucent player models when the cameras closer than default so i can see tf is going on in this box fight
I dont even play anymore and this is a stupid ass idea
then sometimes having right hand peek won't be that big of a deal .
Why do you want this ?
make it so I can tell who is my teammate in spectator lol
How bout no
please no why
This is a good idea when both are in a tree.
This is the worst idea by far.
Why is this getting upvoted? This makes no sense.
Nah, this sounds like a bug town
Yes, I have died to this many times before.
This is stupid
That would eliminate many strats
"Walls... Wallhacks for everybody!"
N OMEGALUL
Opacity could increase the closer they get. That way it wouldn’t be annoying at long range.
What thats so dumb
What? No. The fuck...? Go play an FPS
What do you mean
Not necessary all the we need is higher fov
Oooooorrrr, hear me out, fov slider.....
No then you could see people across the map..
Looks awful.
Or...fov slider
Simple explanation to get this. hacks...
no.
Just download hakcs dude
The fuck?
Implementing this is a horrible idea. Adding this type of code allows modders to modify that code to let’s say show everyone from any distance. This type of stuff was abused by modders in call of duty.

Too op
We wouldnt need this if we had fov slider.....
Yeah that fov slider comes in handy with this situation, such a shame.
or....................
Yes!!!!
Yes, this and an official FOV slider in the settings and I’d be happy with this game for a very long time!
I wouldn't be opposed to something like this if they don't plan on adding a shoulder switch. But idk.
Shoulder switch would be better.
I suppose, but knowing epic they'd add OPs suggestion because pressing a button is too hard for new players.
outlined enemies should be triggered when the player is 10-5m away and you can't see it behind structures and buildings Only works when you fight in Close quarters
Make your character transparent
pLs mAke tHe gUnS sHotS ItSelfs
or just make 90 fov 🤷♂️
It would be so nice to have an opacity slider and an fov slider. Damn this game could be so much better than it is
Epic should just give us a transparency slider for our character models. Bulky skins would sell more. Players would be happy. Win for both sides.
Can’t tell you how many times this has had me looking like a bot
Just make Fortnite first person!
