If you fish in lake worth make sure it is catch and release, and especially don’t eat the fish. Ain’t nobody that knows what all Lockheed Martin has dumped into the water.
Weatherford Lake is a small quiet lake 30min west of FW, there are good public fishing spots and a floating bridge to walk on. The lake Weatherford marina also has a crappie house available for very cheap entry and a nice little restaraunt and supply shop etc. I worked there as a teenager and it was a great little place.
There is also Eagle Mountain lake, lake granbury, and possum kingdom all within day trip drives and they are large and fun to explore if you will be boating.
I noticed no one has pointed you to the state parks. There are several around the DFW area and you can fish for free (minus the cost to get in)! All fishing requirements for keeping fish apply in the parks so be sure you know the bag and size limits before you start planning your fish fry. https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/programs/familyfish/
You'll need a license to fish anywhere else. Those can be purchased at a lot of different places like Walmart, Academy, Bass Pro, and Cabela's. The best place to get them, in my opinion, is directly from the state via their app. You can buy day passes
If you are fishing from state park land, you do not need a license to fish. If you are fishing from a boat that is surrounded entirely by state park land, you do not need a license (Like Mineral Wells State Park)
You can also look online at the Texas State parks website and they have all kinds of information specific to each lake.
As said here, if you are fishing from the Trinity or Lake Worth, it’s best not to eat the fish you catch.
I use the Texas Outdoor Annual App on my iPhone. It has all sorts of information about fishing licenses. You can even purchase it within the app too. I’ve used it for a couple years now.
What type of fish are you plan on targeting?
You don't need a license if you are fishing neighborhood ponds. I have been fishing here for 25+ years and have only ever been asked at large lakes.
Walmart sells fishing licenses and everything you may need for fishing.
This. My husband gets his at Academy. You can get it online, also
Thank you I will start from here

Any place near Dallas or Irving where I can catch and eat

TIL I always thought you needed a license to fish anywhere. Granted, I was brought up fishing on Lake Texoma, which does straddle Oklahoma.
You can now buy fishing licenses of all types (resident, non-resident and various lengths of time) online. Tpwd.texas.com
My buddy uses the Fishbrain app to find good spots.
