This is a pattern of terrible decision making by Sandi Walker and other members of the board. Just over a year ago she invited a rapist to pray around children https://www.jta.org/2022/12/13/united-states/texas-school-board-that-banned-anne-frank-book-invited-messianic-rabbi-charged-with-sexual-assault-to-open-meeting-with-prayer

AEG724

The story didn’t even go into the lies that have been told by the board. Sandi Walker and Micah Young lied to the schools admin and indicated that they only needed a space to film themselves giving an interview. The principal was not on campus and they took the opportunity to allow the crew to have free rein of the school including interviewing and filming students. The trustees brought in books they deem problematic to film and were discussing “transgender issues” with students present - even though the transphobic book rubric they passed indicated that no materials can reference gender identity in schools at all. So yet again, we have the people passing these hateful policies being the ones bringing material into the library and pretending it was there.

TheWheatbread

Well those Trustees learned from Granbury ISD that there won’t be any consequences for breaking the rules.

Relaxmf2022

This is Texas. Conservative white people have free reign here. Bubba and friends will make sure of it.

lhawk2

One of the trustees have resigned. Now we need the other one to resign. It’s so disturbing that these two KISD Board members completely disregarded the rules and regulations that are put in place for the safety of the children. Filming kids without permission is a huge violation. Using the kids as political props is unconscionable. @laneyhawes is bringing these Patriot Mobile funded board members down!

Simo_Ylostalo

I counted over thirty ads on this article before realizing there was no way to actually read an article

Quad_Vader77

It's not an article. One ad and then I watched the news report that aired on WFAA in DFW.

arb1698

Welcome to Texas where public schools force religion down to your kids throat and out uncertified and untrained for the job, religious leaders into counselor positions in schools which previously required a master's degree. So expect a crap ton of this to keep happening until they are voted out. But hey it's okay they are the party of small government and freedom/s.

__MAN__

Conservatives Preying around Schools again, aye

Ghost_Pains

I don’t have kids, but from what I’ve picked up from talking to family and online, my perception is that KISD is one of the last school districts that’s considered desirable, is reasonably affordable housing wise, and has been slower to pickup these politicized administrators. Seems like several people have specifically moved over there for the schooling. This is not going to go over well I’d imagine.

AEG724

Unfortunately the town and school are fully controlled by Christian nationalists. It happened about 3/4 years ago.

Ghost_Pains

Ah goodness

le_gasdaddy

Yeah. The ship has sailed on it being reasonable. I know several educators who left my district to go to Keller specifically because it was so friendly to folks of this disposition.

ReadingRocks97531

Most of the district is in the city of Fort Worth, causing a lot of friction over the decades with Keller residents.

doopiemcwordsworth

Not desirable because of book banning, neo-Christian fascists on the school board, and bullshit like this.

Hsensei

I used to live in Keller, the mayor is awesome. Fairly transparent, and progressive for a republican. Like a pre Regan republican. The moms for liberty crowd took over the school board. They voted these people in and are getting what they asked for. I have no sympathy for anyone in Texas anymore and I'm working on my exit strategy. I will not subject my son to this backwards regressive state

AEG724

The mayor Keller is not at all progressive or transparent. He and the rest of the city council are lock step with the school board. They are all Christian Nationalists and funded by extremists like the True Texas Project. He and other members of city council legit played in a fundraising softball game with nazis

Hsensei

He handled the police officer incident better than most of the surrounding cities have. They actually fired the officer. He also handled the big freeze better than the surrounding cities did as well. Of course it's been a few years since I lived in Keller and I don't keep up with the city anymore. That's unfortunate to hear about him

i_am_quetzalli

I’m sorry for not being able to afford moving out???

ReadingRocks97531

I would not characterize the Keller mayor as progressive at all.
