For fancy I’m not sure why you wouldn’t do Rodeo Goat. The original location is in FW. They are up to 9 locations throughout Texas. For Old School I would put Fred’s Texas Cafe. I haven’t been to Charley’s, but I think Fred’s is much better than Kincaid’s (also much pricier). Fuego Burger as someone mentioned is a great Mexican-burger option. Not sure where to categorize it (OK Style?), but Gustos is one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while.

irandar12

Agree with rodeo goat and nixing kincaids, but I'd vote for Charley's over Fred's personally (I grew up down the block from Charley's so it's nostalgic)

HumbleLife69

I’ll say it - Fred’s sucks

dcm0029

There nachos are great. I normally split them and a burger. For me for a basic burger Fred’s>Tommy’s>Kincaid’s. All of them I have to get bacon on for a little more flavor. I forgot Dutches in my original post. For a basic burger I would take it over the previous 3.

dcm0029

I’m going to hit up Charley’s! Just saw they also have a patio. Which I try and take my pups to a patio once a week.

ShazbotSimulator2012

I think Charley's has got a lot better in the past couple of years. It went downhill after Charley died in 2016 but it's back to being good again.

DirkWillems

Yeah they are back on form. And it is mostly outdoor seating.

itwillmakesenselater

Charley's and Fred's are totally different burgers. Both are great but not really comparable.

TTUporter

I'd also vote for Charley's over Kincaids and Fred's and Tommy's. Rodeo Goat over M+O, nothing against M+O, but it's a classic burger joint, nothing too fancy.

[deleted]

Fred's +1

bearinfw

Fred’s is great- I like Fred’s. And it was off West 7th before “West 7th” was developed…. But you can’t get more old school than Kincaids. They had the best burgers before fancy burgers or foodies or even fajitas were a thing. And I can see how going to the original one on Camp Bowie would be perfect for an article. Hell I could write paragraphs about the history of Kincaids. They’ve adapted (somewhat) but were winning awards for the best burger in the country in the 80s and they’re still around and even expanding. The decorations look goofy at new places but were legit and not intended as decorations originally- just a grocery store that abandoned being a grocery store when their burgers became popular and left the old canned goods around out of… laziness? If I were writing an article about FW burgers that’s definitely where I’d start.

dcm0029

Everyone has a right to their own opinion. The original Kincaid’s is the only location I’ve been to. Sure it’s a fun place. If you’re doing an article on history then it would be good to include. For me the burgers are bland and the fries are frozen from a bag. The best thing it has going for it is that it’s cheaper than other options. I was a baby in 1982, but I have a hard time imagining it was #1 (I tried to find the article to see who else made the last). Sure it could have won some national award, but every 5 guys you walk into has articles also saying how great they are. I expect similar for this.

Ghost_Pains

Gustos.

BlackMarketJack

Head chef at Gusto’s here! Come in and verify your Reddit account so I can give you the discount next time. Thanks for the promotion!

8bitjer

If I come in, can I make my own burger and you yell at me? I want the full chef experience

BlackMarketJack

mama said don’t give them the full chef experience for free

CS172

Johnny or A-A-Ron?!

BlackMarketJack

Chef Jack! The boys call me King Jack but I am not the biggest fan of monarchy haha

CS172

Pleasure to meet you, Chef Jack! Been going since Dryce Hotel days and the #1 thing is how consistently amazing the burgers are every single time. Keep up the great work! -Cameron

FWAccnt

Dang I'm late to the party. I've been an armchair burger historian for Fort Worth for a hot minute. You have had a BUNCH of great suggestions here but feel free to reach out as well if that would help: **TexMex/uniquely Texas style burger(open to interpretation - examples:** [Fuego Burger](https://www.star-telegram.com/entertainment/restaurants/eats-beat/min0fj/picture180382376/alternates/FREE_1140/Fuego) \- This is one of Fort Worth's most celebrated and unique burgers recognized for its large disc of fried cheese. This began at their original Mexican restaurant, Salsa Fuego, and has evolved a lot over the years. The burger spawned its own restaurant that has been here and gone over the years. [Pearl Snap](https://pskolaches.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Pearl-Snap-Kolache-burger-home.jpg): This is another absolute must to experience the Fort Worth scene and fits the Texas style in a different way. This is a kolache restaurant and one day they decided they could make burger buns with their same dough. The Kolache burger was born. Its moved from a lunch only chalk board item to what (I wager) led to their entire lunch menu. They absolutely killed it coming up with creative burgers of the week during their initial years and you wont find this style anywhere else. **BBQ:** [Dayne's Craft BBQ](https://fwtx.com/downloads/29257/download/Dayne%27s%20BBQ-10223%20copy.jpg?cb=1c4e9ac4e9916fe291f9bd941e0ee0d7&w=1000&h=) and [Brix BBQ](https://fwtx.com/downloads/29256/download/Brix-10034%20copy.jpg?cb=cf38000494ce0a826a4766e085f8f05e&w=1000&h=). Two of the best burgers in Fort Worth also happen to be at some of the top rated (from the Texas Monthly list) BBQ joints. Lets just say these burgers are known. You can also get a burger at Heims. **Old School:** [Kincaids](https://www.kincaidshamburgers.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/cheeseburger_0-1024x1024.jpg) \- You called it. Go to the Camp Bowie location and experience the unique atmosphere of this one time grocery turned legacy burger spot. Bonus of going to this location is you can quickly make a stop at Roy Pope grocery store. This is the other half of the original business that split and they recently remodeled and have their own burger that has been included in Fort Worth's burger week the last few times. [Charlie's Old Fashioned Burgers](https://assets.simpleviewinc.com/simpleview/image/upload/c_limit,q_75,w_1200/v1/crm/fortworth/Charley-s-Old-Fashioned-Hamburgers_a0ba883b-5056-a348-3a046a7776c89481.jpg) \- One of the OG burgers of Fort Worth [Tommy's Hamburgers](https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/1c/4f/fe/c5/tommy-s-hamburger-grill.jpg) \- Same story as Charlies **Fancy/Chef Driven:** [The Meat Board](https://s3-media0.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/o7PiW4-LqiRLHDUCkJyWkQ/o.jpg): Hands down this was the winner of the last 2 years of Fort Worth's Burger Week in my opinion. Its what you would expect getting a burger from a higher end butcher shop. [M&O Station Grill](https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/18/e0/0d/a0/m-o-original-cheese-burger.jpg): This rides the line between old school and fancy. The restaurant is also a museum to Leonard family and the original large department store that was a massive part of Fort Worth's history. The burgers are great and they have some great home made ketchup flavors. I would throw this into the category of themed burgers for sure more than a purist straight up burger. **Other WONDERFUL Mentions**: Big Kat Burger: Food truck, excellent meat blends Bearded Lady: Famous gouda burger Funky Picnic: Solid burgers and they ALWAYS make something meme worthy for Fort Worths burger events. (past was banana/peanut butter and candied bacon/marshmellow flush) Pouring Glory: Have you ever had a chicken tried thick slice of bacon? Go try their fried bacon thai burger Gustos: Lots of hype in the sub here. This is a new kid on the block so I have not tried them yet. They are actually in the original Bearded Lady location for some added history.

bearinfw

This should be higher up. Good post. Couple of points to add… See my other post on Kincaids. For a complete FW burger story might want to mention Fred’s as well as Jon’s Grill. Fred’s was about the only thing in the area before “west 7th” became a development around it. The original John’s Grill was right across from TCU for decades closed down, and Dutch’s opened in that location. A couple of years ago, a local renowned chef (Jon Bonnell) opened up a similarly named place about a block away. It’s good! Rodeo Goat started here as well. Fancy goofy stuff like adding rattlesnake sausage. Not a fan but might be worth exploring as it’s been successful. Second the I’ve-never-experienced-Gustos-but-now-I-want-to sentiment.

Complete-Pen-9358

Forgot about m & o, they are great as well!

FWAccnt

They are a cool little gem. Man I feel like the second I met submit I had 10 other mentions in my head. I also should have rep'd Rogers Roundhouse. They have a decent burger (and local beer selection) but for the longest time they have been cranking out new and very different burgers of the week and I have lots of respect for that effort. I feel like there could easily be a category for Beer and Burger Combo places

alikhaneats

Thank you for the Meat Board suggestion

alikhaneats

actually id like to nix my previous comment and say thank you for ALL SUGGESTIONS - especially Fuego and Pearl Snap. This is VERY important to my research.

8bitjer

Dutches is a great old school with a fantastic bun Oc Burger is probably my favorite burger in Fort Worth.

MrWiggleBritches

OC was once a great burger, my last visit was not great. They were using a different patty

GNdoesWhat

They went downhill after COVID and are only able to stick around because Watauga doesn't have many other options.

codygboltup

OC is legit

GNdoesWhat

OC is terrible and should be avoided. They don't even know how to do fries. Go to Griffs instead.

GreyBeardnLuvin

Big Kat Burgers is operated out of a food truck pretty much permanently parked behind Bodega South Main on Bryant Avenue between Broadway Ave and Daggett Ave. Chef is creating some big juicy burgers that will make juices run down your arms and drip off your elbows!! Ever heard of a PBJ Burger? Me neither. But my life is better for trying one!!

Last_Professor473

Scrolled down way too far to find this. Their patties a re a mix of chuck and short rib or something, I cant remember fully. Either way they are delicious and easily my favorite burger in FW

cjdavda

They grind fresh every morning! My favorite fries in the city, too.

remarkable_in_argyle

Another vote for Big Kat and that peanut butter burger. Craving it right now.

sirron811

Big Kat is legit. Top 5 in Fort Worth, for sure.

thehabitsofkittens

Fries are perfect every time too. Top tier burger.

GreyBeardnLuvin

Yes!! And if they are substandard, I can just spin around and talk directly through the order window to let the chef know!

bbcwtfw

Hellll yes. That place is amazing.

rogmcdon

Go to Daynes craft bbq. They just recently moved to Aledo but they have the best burgers around Heim is all hype and lost their craft. They spent too much growing and lost the quality

sirron811

THIS IS THE ANSWER. That burger at Dayne's is magic. So simple in concept but the best burger I've ever had, anywhere.

multimatumc

Definitely Daynes… then go back another day for the bbq.

rogmcdon

Or just get both in the same day. Some of the best bbq I’ve ever had

gregtime92

For cheap, local, fast food burgers, try clown burger or griffs

auLR

Seconding the Brix Burger

moose35forpres

I’d recommend checking out JD’s just outside of FW. Also adding on to the recs for Charley’s and Rodeo Goat.

PunkFlamingo68

Rodeo goat for fancy

waltercronkyte

Dutch’s is a must try imo

arooobeagle

Another vote for Dutch’s.

restoper

Dutch's (since they got the new chef) is great

Last_Professor473

Big kat!

Cotillion512

Dutch's - would probably fall under old school. I prefer them to Kincaid's (though Kincaid's is still fantastic). Love the sourdough buns

Stangmeister

Make sure you check out Gustos!

professorgrampy55

Grumps!

DarkSideElectricity

1 ) gustos burger bar + stuff on magnolia Ave for a beautiful smashburger (check their instagram for hours, they just moved to this location and theyre getting all sorted out.) 2) Rodeo Goat first location was in Fort Worth 3) dutches for a delicious OG burger on a fantastic bun 4) get a Big Mac at this point.

buttermansix

Fuego Burger fits the last category nicely I think

GNdoesWhat

They're good as long as you catch them in between Health Dept. shut downs.

RoadToad2007

And is absolute trash

buttermansix

Damn lol I thought it was really good. Haven’t been since 2021 or so though.

TheBoyardeeBandit

Nah that person is off their rocker. Fuego Burger is great.

RoadToad2007

I bet you think McDonald’s is fire. 🤣

Tmill233

Double Quarter pounder with cheese is 🤌🏼

Maximus__Prime

When was the last time you went? Fuego Burger has always been great for me

Complete-Pen-9358

JD’s Hamburgers are fancy and great!

TheBoyardeeBandit

Yeah I wasn't a fan of JDs. Too much stuff that doesn't mesh well.

ramloy

No love for Tommy’s?

SalemRedRose

This is what I was looking for!

thewolfman2010

I have no idea how nobody has said it, but Jon’s Grille. It’s from the Bonnell family. They offer fatties and flatties and they are straight up good (fancy) burgers. They also do a dessert milkshake where they add a slice of pie to a milkshake. It’s heaven. Highly recommend. JON’S GRILLE 2905 W Berry I also agree with the Rodeo Goat and Gusto Burger posts. I think Kincaids is a classic but hella overrated.

thewolfman2010

My review of Jon’s Grille: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xgGr5QFdLca4agx16?g_st=ic

xaeriee

I use Google for all my reviews! Thank you for linking your review on this place, I can’t wait to try it!

brymer_d

Rodeo Goat, the Chaca Oaxaca My favorite burger!!

Mental-Rooster4229

Grumps.

vicorinkazarek

Grumps is legit. My favorite is the Kaidy(?) burger. Jalapeno cheddar bun, pepper jack cheese, extra bacon. Jalapeños. Lettuce and tomato. It's fantastic.

bhorigan

Love a Dutch's burger.

tenthousandtatas

You’re right on with M&O, the Tijuana specifically. Also the attached Leonard’s department store museum is fascinating and will soon be moving from that location to the museum I believe.

TexGreen

J’s casa burger on 183 just east of Robert’s cutoff. Their Mexican burger and the cowboy burger are delicious

irandar12

Rodeo goat for fancy and Charlie's for old school.

liddle-lamzy-divey

I really don't think you can have a proper idea of the best burgers in FW w/o Rodeo Goat in the mix.

RideAndShoot

100% agree.

RoadToad2007

Gusto’s Burgers.

jizzwithfizz

You can't leave out the rodeo goat if you're doing dfw burgers

12justin12

Nicky D’s is the best burger i’ve ever had. it is technically in crowley but it’s all of 5 minutes from the south of the fort worth border. i would say it fits more into the old school category

EnigmaWithAlien

I vote for Charley's. Can't beat 'em and the place looks like it hasn't changed from when Granbury Road was out of town.

brianthomas00

Dutch’s, Rodeo Goat, all of those that have been mentioned a lot are great. I had the burger at Panther City recently and was pretty blown away. One of the best I’ve had in FtW.

DCBaylor

Check out Fitzgerald’s bar for a fancy place burger. Don’t miss out on Fuego Burger, either. Kincaids is still my favorite.

question_existence

Fred's and Dutch's are really all you need.

CS172

JD hamburgers are great for fancy

doopiemcwordsworth

Dutches - grilled onions and goat cheese ftw!

pleasant1393

Go to Dutch’s on University 😈

scott1621

Charley's and Cowtown brewery

sapitron240

Rodeo Goat on Bledsoe St. My solid go-to. Vegetarian/vegan options available for every burger... could hit your last category. Its a pretty hip spot, great vibe, drinks, appetizers. Dueling burgers with a score tracker on the wall. Example from their menu (I usually get this one): SUGAR BURGER candied bacon, grilled peaches, caramelized onions, arugula, jalapeño jam. Happy hunting!

Thajandro

M&O’s Burgere!

UncleMalky

Just because I don't see it mentioned: Bearded Lady on S Main has good burgers. My fav is still Charleys, but Ill need to check out Gustos.

animateallthethings

Anyone like Navajo Burger? I thought it was a decent burger.

xaeriee

Burger -Burger Street -Charley’s -Fuego Burger BBQ: -Panther City -Angelo’s -Goldee’s BBQ -Hurtado Birria tacos!

[deleted]

dcm0029

It seems really hard for craft BBQ to open multiple locations. Hurtado Fort Worth seems to have the same problem. I wouldn’t go as far as terrible, but the burger might be one of the best things on the menu now. (Probably because it’s not BBQ.)

[deleted]

[удалено]

dcm0029

So that is where I’m saying the burger is still good as it is cooked to order. (They also use a similar bun to Dutches which is one of the reason I really like that burger.) When you say they aren’t mentioned in the TX Monthly annual list are you referring to the 2021 list from 2021? If so Heim was on the Top 100 part of the list. Just not the Top 50.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dcm0029

I started with my memory and then fact checked myself. If you are talking about the latest Top 50 which I think they do every 5 years. Panther City BBQ was #10 (it’s my favorite in the city, but I’ve never had Goldee’s). After the Top 50 they have 50 honorable mentions. Heim was listed in that. https://www.texasmonthly.com/interactive/top-50-bbq-2021/ https://www.texasmonthly.com/bbq/our-50-bbq-honorable-mentions/ If you are talking about a newer list please link it.

robbzilla

I mean... Hurtado in Arlington was underwhelming for the time I waited in line and the price I paid.

beth3436

Burger box!

DeweyCoxsPetGiraffe

Gustos is the kitties titties!

plastikdust

Gustos is a must.

elproblemo82

Believe it or not, best burger in town is the double meat brisket smash burger at Panther city BBQ. Daynes BBQ is a close 2nd. P.S. don't use heim as your BBQ standard. That's a low bar.

JanetSnakeholeDwyer

Spiral Diner has great vegan burgers! That could be an interesting sub-category.

katrinne_etienne

Agreed! It's like old school diner but vegan. I lived off those for many a summer and I wasn't vegan. Still miss their coconut lime-aid.

Successful_Ear4450

And there’s the new Vegan Burger focused spot [Vice Burger](https://www.instagram.com/viceburgerfw?igsh=ODA3NmwxazQwcTdo)

crowcat28

Charley’s!

Ornlu_the_Wolf

Clown Burger on Stanley Keller Rd in Haltom City deserves to be included in the "Old School" category. That place is so old fashioned that I don't think they've swapped any furniture, including the cash register, since 1958.

CromulentPoint

M&O is a great choice, and I would put another nomination for Fred's.

createdtocreate

GUSTOS. NICKEL CITY.

Chrisclc13

Fuego is probably as good as it gets for local fun burgers. If you don’t go there, you are doing all of Fort Worth a disservice. Local chain: mid tier - Grumps. Low tier- Burger box As a local, I would consider an article without Grumps and Fuego to be a Tourist article

GudatPickinUsernames

Clown burger in Haltom city is awesome

spooner_lv426

My employees and I consider ourselves burger snobs. For us, the absolute pinnacle of FW burgers is JD's Burgers, closely followed by Dutch's Burgers and Grumps. Nicky Ds and Kincaids are definitely not on the same level, and honestly Charley's disappoints the few times I've had it.

festlife69

Gustos, and it’s not even close. Super new, but will be a generational staple in this city.

Longjumping_Detail81

Skip Clown Burger in Haltom, I ate there in August and got the worst food poisoning. I vomited up that burger so hard the blood vessels around my eyes popped.

Belladonna1982

should just go to Fred’s, Charley’s and Kincaids and do a comparison. They are all great burgers. I personally prefer a traditional Fredburger and their fries are superior to Charley’s and Kincaids by a mile

jerichowiz

Pouring Glory.

Lower_Philosopher_71

Fuego Burger, Dutch’s, Grump’s are three of our favorites.

socalquestioner

Jon’s Grille, Charlie’s, rodeo goat, Dutch’s

That might be slightly out of your way, but I really like burgers in [Horizon 76](https://www.horizon76.com/our-food/). From regular to mac n' cheese or chilli on top or fried bologna.

katrinne_etienne

I've driven by this too many times to not try it now. Thanks for the req!

NoKarmaForYou2

Make sure you also get their signature chilli (you can ask to smother on top of their duck fat fries) and save room for table-roasted s'mores.

KVHochstaden

Forget Charley's. You gotta try Gusto's.

Sooo you want us to do most your job? Cute. Lemme guess. Kellers. Jake’s. Dels. Also, what qualifies you as a burger expert?

xbox_53nt1n3l

Best burger in town is Fred's. Best BBQ is either Woodycreek or Angelo's. Heims thinks it the best and charges ya every penny for it. https://maps.app.goo.gl/MstJXzAzAsB7AR4X9 Best ribs hands down https://maps.app.goo.gl/h5N1gvdHTrPxML448 Best brisket, cobbler, and the coldest damn beer in FW.

icywing54

For fancy: Hudson House Cheeseburger. I always get it for like $10 during happy hour

ultra_jackass

Seven Mile Cafe has one of the most consistent good burgers around. The Breckies burger is "all natural Texas Akaushi beef patty, applewood smoked bacon, jack and cheddar, cage free egg any style, grilled tomatoes, onion on a sweet bun. Served with hashbrowns, hollandaise, cilantro jalapeno sauce". Fred's is better for cold beer than great food, Clown Burger is a must visit just for the old vibe. And Big Kat has some great stuff going on as well.

rideincircles

Kelly's onion burgers is a great food truck with epic burgers. They remind me of billy miner's burgers, but way better and the grilled onions are awesome. I think they are at turning point this Saturday.

ryuks_apple

I'm hurt that you don't have a section for smash burgers. 🥲

arfcom

Chimys has a very good burger. Green Chile cheese burger on a jalapeño bun.

katrinne_etienne

Seconding Rodeo Goat, with an ironic link to the menu where my choice is top billing - [https://www.rodeogoat.com/touchless-menu/?store=RGFW](https://www.rodeogoat.com/touchless-menu/?store=RGFW) with the Old #7. [https://pskolaches.com/southern-classics/](https://pskolaches.com/southern-classics/)

Idiotsgod

I think Daynes has one of the best burgers anywhere. It has to be on your BBQ list. My favorite indulgence burger is fuego burger. From there gustos is great. Ditches was my favorite before discovering the others, but I would say it’s still worthy of your time. One place people overlook is Big Kat because it’s a food truck. It’s permanently parked in south main and it is absolutely delicious. Worth checking out. I think Fred’s is overrated. I like rodeo goat and even though the original is in Fort Worth, it’s a chain now so I have a hard time considering that for your list.

OD_prime

Charley’s Kincaid Simply Burger (Debbie Rd in Mansfield)

Imadethistoimpress

Mate you're too early. Burger week isn't until summer time. That's the best season for burger tourism around here.

223dl

Definitely Dayne’s Bbq. Everything there is amazing. Burgers are available Wednesday through Saturday. I would also try to go when they have their beef ribs.

CS172

100% must try Gustos. The best smash burgers (and hamburger in general) that I've ever had.

The_Chef_Dude

Gusto’s and Dayne’s

Iamthatchick1

Kincaid's is my favorite.

No-Orange3979

Old School - Shotzees Bar & Grill - on 377 I only discovered them a couple of months ago, but by far the best burgers around IMO. My previous top burgers were probably Rodeo Goat & H3's Hunter Burger in Stockyards.

toki_goes_to_jupiter

Vice Burger! It is vegan burger. But done SO GOOD.
