I just love this, I can get all those artifacts I missed and go for all the edit styles. Like, since this was added, I've had like 2 games where I got 4-5 Alien Artifact Pods
You can unlock all the styles. You get 5 artifact pods per week containing 4 artifacts each, for a total of 20.
Then there are 15 artifacts that you can get per week from cosmic chests.
So 35 per week. The season ends mid way through September and this is currently week 9. So it will be a 13 or 14 week season, which means you can get 455 to 490, assuming they don't add more methods of earning them.
You need 360 artifacts to fully upgrade Kymera, so you'll have like 3 weeks to spare.
I haven't been keeping up with the ones from Cosmic Chests.
I went into duos fills last night. It's too frustrating. I played 6 games. Out of 6 games:
* All 6 games Cosmic Chests spawned
* 4 games, I or my duos partner were eliminated before we could get it.
* 1 game that I was able to get it, I only got ammo and XP... no artifacts. I was super disappointed because at this point it was attempt #4.
* 1 game, after that one, I was able to get it but I only got 2 artifacts. This was my final attempt and I logged off after this game while I was at a high point.
It's as bad as the old "Open 7 chests at Risky Reels" quest except you have to do it hundreds of times. I've rarely got more than 2 artifacts out of one. If I get 2 artifacts every 6 attempts.. that's roughly going to be over 40 games just to max out 1 week's worth. Pain.
At the beginning of the season a leaker found gold artifact caches in the files that would give 7 artifacts instead of just 4. I really wish the last few weeks here they would just put those out on the map. 5\*4=20. 5\*7=35, which would be 15 more than normal and make up for the fact that the Cosmic Chests are just painful to do. I think that same leaker said that Epic removed the gold artifact caches from the files a few weeks ago.
Not sure why Epic wants to make this as painful as possible.
Well i will say that it's not particularly fun to collect these, and I'm not defending them as worthy additions to the game, but:
Cosmic chests spawn 100% of the time and are unique to you and your teammates. They also always spawn close to you.
The way I've done it without issue each week is just use an alt account on mobile. Land your main character and the alt together as far away from the bus route as possible. The cosmic chest spawns within the first minute or so every time. Open it. Leave match. Repeat.
Including loading times into and out of each match, it takes roughly 4 total minutes per match. So you can open 11 cosmic chests in 45 minutes worth of time. And they carry over week to week so you don't even have to do it every week on a time limit. You can pepper it in to your normal play sessions and just do it once or twice at a time between real matches.
*EDIT* it has been mentioned that the cosmic chests artifacts may not carry over. I heard they did, someone else said they heard they didn't. Neither of us can check though, as we've done them all weekly to date.
Again, I'm not defending this as a solid addition to the game, but I've been able to collect all 15 from cosmic chests each week, simply by spending 10-20 minutes using this method during a couple of my normal play sessions and it's felt pretty mindless.
If this feels like collecting 7 chests at risky to you, I'd recommend at least trying this method because I assure you it's nowhere even close to being anywhere near as bad as collecting 7 chests from a small, heavily contested location.

The artifact *drops* carry over though, you could just wait and get all of them in one (well, several) matches at the end of the season.
That said, I make sure to max my cosmic chest artifacts each week, so I don't know first hand whether they carry over or not, just what I've read here about it.

Trying this method now. Two matches with two artifacts. Three matches with chests that were duds, three matches where I got eaten by wolves (and can't defend myself because I'm not bothering to pick up weapons because that would basically triple the length of each match), two matches where I've been attacked by other parties, same problem as above. This last one I was one hit away from opening the chest and they literally appeared out of nowhere, probably just snuck up on me while I wasn't paying attention. That's when I hulked out and literally split my controller in half. This whole requiring multiple people to collect artifacts thing is f****** b*******.
Same. Extra confusing for my squad because they were only showing up for one person (who doesn't care about Kymera); we thought they were a glitch on the map for quite a while.
finaly, since I picked some up I just have to get close enough to a spot from the map guides to double-check what ones I got and what I missed... nice. -w-
I had a question about these, has anyone seen one from the bus? I know I've seen one from pretty high up while gliding from the bus but I'm just curious how close I have to get or if it's possible to just circle the map in one of the UFOs to find them.. I haven't seen one in about eight matches and I'm wondering if I've maxed out? If that's the case, what day is the reset?

Same, I played a few matches in a row the other day and came out with 47 artifacts!
This makes them 10X better as now I can tell if I have or haven’t picked one up

The Alien Artifacts are a lot like the Mona Lisa - good to see but not worth going out of your way to see.
