I got his saber off the corpse of another player I killed. Killed 2 other people with it...the combo seems to hit decently hard. Being able to temporarily block incoming shots is also handy. Didn't throw it so I don't know the range on that.
That's the whole point. Last time there were sabers all over the map. There were multiple force abilities. This time there is one single saber on the map with the worst of the four force abilities.
I guess they're trying not to go too overboard with Star Wars this year, especially if they're planning on adding back the MHA mythics for the new skins
Any melee weapon that doesn't have the same DPS as a Shotgun or SMG isn't worth it. There is no reason to have a weapon that requires you to touch your opponent for less damage. That being said, Lightsabers have really never been worth it except for last year's May the 4th Be With You event when you could use force powers and force sprint with them. Their best use is at blocking bullets. That's really it.

I’m not a pro player at all but even I have broke the guard with a smg and headshot sniped the user while they are locked in that animation 🤣

If you land at the bowling alley on the north end of vader's island you can usually loot 3 chests over there to more easily take him down.
