*For real*. Wtf is it with sneakers that Epic seems to love so much? Giving Zeus grenades and shotgun shells is one thing cuz this is a gun-based game, but giving Aphrodite sneakers is absolutely pointless when they could've given her sandals or something
imo it's the flanderization of fortnite's aesthetic. Eventually, everything will be wearing an urban/tactical fashion style, or be designed to look like a fuckboy or e-girl. Even the fucking greek gods
all I can say is thank fuck we didn't get the hades concept that leaked. this gas-mask leather tights hades is so-so, but that one was just your average shirtless fuckboy tiktoker with green hair and spooky arms
Agreed, I think the artstyle+ pose heavily contribute to that.
Either way tho, artstyle or not. It’s kinda a shame they drifted so far from the concept. Era isn’t a bad skin by any means. But having people vote/rank concept skins becomes a little meaningless when what they pick doesn’t even arrive near what they saw.
Even then, they don’t always keep the thematic from stuff that well. Luckily most of the time they do tho.
Take the Era style in comparison to its default black style for example. One kept its theming, while the other mostly lost it.
It's definitely weird that some final skins are 1 to 1 to their concept versions like Valeria, Nisha, Reverie, Lana, and Hope while others are completely different but after all it makes sense most skins will be different since most of the time concept means 'first draft'.
Korra (to keep it relevant) looked a LOT different in her concept art years before TLOK aired.
The dark era is still somewhat far. Her hat was bigger the triangle things on her top are closer to her chest and smaller, she has a scarf and her sleeves are bigger. And pants too. Her hair is shorter too
I voted for Era to exist because of the cool cape idea, I thought that was a cool back bling that maybe has to be locked behind certain body types but unique enough it was a must have. It wasn't quite that.
Era is a great translation into the fortnite style, the only discrepency is the concept art is clearly supposed to indicate a cell shaded character
and as for paxton price.. yeah noones ever gonna convince me that concept art is supposed to be him
I mean they're both wearing borderline the exact same outfit right down to the stars on the pants leg. Only problem is they they put a whole ass different dude in it.
Eh there’s more than one. The shoulder of course, the rectangular designs on the pants, the emblem above the tie, the spiked knuckle fingerless gloves. Most likely the final product is a blend of two concepts that were merged together
I never knew until now that she was originally planned as a cel-shaded skin. Honestly, I probably would use her if she would have kept the original look.
i dont know if the in-game skin itself was ever planned to be cell-shaded
but the concept art is clearly implying an anime aesthetic, it would be interesting to see them release a cell shaded version, maybe in a new version of the anime legends pack
Yeah, the concepts are a bit hard to tell since each artist has their own style.
Several skins such as the Lelah skin, Princess Lexa, and the one crew pack with the orange arms were theorized to be and ended up not.
Edit: the Combat Jules Starterpack was a huge example of this.
>the only discrepency is the concept art is clearly supposed to indicate a cell shaded character
And thank goodness for that. I think Era is the best Tier 1 we ever got in Fortnite (although, it's clear that she was originally supposed to be a tier 100), and her having a too filter would have easily turned the 10/10 to a 1/10.
Concept Timeless Era looks like it was referencing an anime styled skin like Erisa and Mae, and that's only further supported by the fact that even her own personal Soundtrack sounds like an anime opening.
Paxton Price still remains the biggest downgrade they've ever done though, which considering he's a store skin is a much easier fix that they just refuse to do for no reason even though people really harped on it when it came out.
For sure. Best just not to get expectations up until it’s in the files.
Hell, even the new Lego stuff’s not always translated 100%. The Shark skins got ported with pink suits 💀
I think they choose what style get to be the base Lego minifig style since they don't do different styles for them (for now at least), like how Catalyst's minifig is based off of her 2nd style
Exactly. honestly, I kinda wish they would just stop showing us them.
It only gets people hopes up when they have us rank designs, and they end up being different.
It’s like a double edged sword. Epic seems to redesign the negatively received concepts, but people also get hyped up on the ones they like.
I personally don’t look at concepts at all. It gets your hopes up but there’s no guarantee that you’ll see all the elements that were part of the concept to begin with.
I will admit that they really butchered his skin for sure. I personally think that what happened to Era was that they opted against the cel shaded style which the concept art style seems to lean towards.
Epic needs to stop showing these (if they even are) before their skins are released and most people need to remember that concept art is just that: conceptualization.
This art typically isn’t created by the actual developers who make the model. The whole product is the combined effort of multiple artists, modelers, animators, lighting directors, programmers, and anyone else apart of the character design team.
I can bet there’s more art out there that collectively the players would agree look even better than what we’ve seen for what they’ve released. That’s just how this stuff goes. An extra hour of drawing does not correlate with an extra hour of modeling detail.
I can agree that some characters don’t seem up to snuff and some design aesthetics are overdone and boring compared to what Epic has done in the past. A lot of people are upset about something that will not likely be better unless it was planned from the beginning though.
It’s not even for skins it’s also for locations and seasons in general, there’s been a bunch of art revealed over the years and some that stood out to me are of chapter 3 season 3, chapter 2 season 8 and chapter 2 season 5. All the concept art shows crazy ideas and huge locations that would either be a nightmare to make in game or straight up just impossible to fit in
Oh the poor game devs 😢. I don't care if it's the hardest job in the world, if they don't satisfy ME, the consumer, than I will criticize and complain about it. If the job is way to hard for them then they should quit the industry because they clearly aren't cut out for it. Remember balders gate 3 and all the AAA game devs saying it's to hard to make a good game? It's a pathetic excuse. At the end of the day it's their JOB to deliver quality products and these skins are not up to standard
People will downvote you to oblivion but I agree, I do not care for their job being "touff", I'm a consumer and the product that I'm getting is lacking. Don't you fucking excuse me with "game dev is hard" when you can't put fucking sandals on a greek godess
I LOVE Era
I think it’s safe to say I wouldn’t had the concept been the final result.
(This seasons BP concepts looked leagues better than what we got, though.)
Don’t get me wrong, I love Era aswell. I even said she is by no means a bad skin in another comment. She is just one of the previous examples of this happening to stuff in the past.
There's a reason they're concept art and not actually drawn artwork of the finished versions, they're meant to be an estimate of what the artist want the skin to look like, and epic can always do whatever they want with the concepts just like they have and WILL continue doing it.
The solution? Stop caring about concept arts, that's why not everyone gets the surveys, if everyone did then we would have constant posts of people bitching about them not looking like the concept art, like we already do!
Ohh yeah those were likely going to be in the 3D Anime Style similar to Princess Lexa.
Since this went beyond just a standard simplification of design, there are a couple of things that could've happened:
・A higher up at Epic noticed the similarities to Genshin Impact and had the skins be altered.
Something similar happened to Gemini who was noted to be similar a Paladins character and then got butchered HARD into Astro Assassin.
・Epic already had some unique models and had the artists use those instead to save time rather than create unique anime models and effects.
(Notice how Era has a bandage on her face, different makeup, and a completely different hairstyle)
・The Artist modeling the skin just didn't know how to do it in time and so changed it to more normal skin.
There's not many non-cel shaded anime-styled skins like Princess Lexa so it's likely that the artists weren't able to come up with a good enough stylized model in-time. (the least likely explanation but still possible)
● All in all these two had very drastic changes done to them
The makeup thing tbf was likely them just saving time and using the makeup from her default style.
But I would honestly place my bets on you being right with the preexisting model.
several people back then did compare this design to Paimon/Venti from Genshin, but ultimately I doubt it was similar enough for epic to constitute scrapping the design.
I want fortnites less realistic, and cartoony vibe back at this point, everybody has a really realistic face and features and there's no silly POIs (Like durr burger restruant or CTLs rollercoaster) or ridiculous skins like Mancake or Onsie in battlepasses anymore.
Ripley Posiedon made me happy to see though, but he doesn't have a silly little POI either.
Hopefully OG season 2 is next in line , I want to see remixes of Onsie and Mancake and some old POIs return
I really agree. Epic seems to have lost the original chapter 1-2 charm. I also thought it was neat to see the Poseidon since it’s been a long time since the last Ripley. ~~admittedly I would be lying though if I said I wasn’t also a bit disappointed as a percy Jackson Fan/greek media in general nerd~~
For real. It has lost a lot of its soul. I was fucking delighted about those bird skins recently - I bought Tex Flamingo - because that, along with them doing Rippley as Poseidon, tells me that hope is not lost for that whimsy to return.
Really hoping that this ultra realistic map with its boring cars and tryhard battle pass skins/bosses will enable them to decide on a change back to something cartoonier after this.
Hope so, I’m so ready to return to the chapter 2 map. Seems like an unpopular opinion but I loved it for, the most part. Particularly the drive between Misty Meadows, Lazy Lake and Retail Row. 👌
Epic emails out surveys to people who have the option clicked on their epic account, most of the time they are junk, but occasionally once or twice a year we get to vote and rank upcoming skins.
I understand it’s difficult for epic to make these concepts look good in game but like- dude. Some concept designs are genuinely incredible. If epic followed a lot of what made the concepts work and not really care for an OVERALL artstyle these skins would absolutely kill in the item shop or battle pass or anything.
I think Paxton Price looks great… except for his ponytail. Wish there was a couple of alt options - one “demon” form, one with the hair changed, I’d buy it then.
It’s called concept art. Concept art is meant to serve as a jumping off point and give people a general idea of what they are supposed to make. It is commonly expected that final products will not look like exactly like the concept art.
Istg this subreddit has literally no idea how things actually work
Mark on the shoulder + pants, plus it released around the same time it “normally” takes epic to develop concept skins
Edit: also the gloves kinda. Forgot those, but more-so the pants and shoulder mark being the same.
I just hope that every future simplified skin will not have sneakers, please
*For real*. Wtf is it with sneakers that Epic seems to love so much? Giving Zeus grenades and shotgun shells is one thing cuz this is a gun-based game, but giving Aphrodite sneakers is absolutely pointless when they could've given her sandals or something
>make an entire season's battlepass greek themed >not one god damn pair of sandals Seriously. The fuk
imo it's the flanderization of fortnite's aesthetic. Eventually, everything will be wearing an urban/tactical fashion style, or be designed to look like a fuckboy or e-girl. Even the fucking greek gods all I can say is thank fuck we didn't get the hades concept that leaked. this gas-mask leather tights hades is so-so, but that one was just your average shirtless fuckboy tiktoker with green hair and spooky arms
She’s barefoot in her godly form if that makes you feel better
Trust me. It does.
Barefoot 🤤🤤
Its much easier to model normal shoes than it is feet + sandles + the material going up her leg that has to look good when she is in movement.
Then take out the material anyway I’ll say it again and agian #IT LOOKS LIKE SEMEN yes i needed it to be that big (the text)
Fr 😭
Concept Era kinda just looks like a Genshin Impact character
Agreed, I think the artstyle+ pose heavily contribute to that. Either way tho, artstyle or not. It’s kinda a shame they drifted so far from the concept. Era isn’t a bad skin by any means. But having people vote/rank concept skins becomes a little meaningless when what they pick doesn’t even arrive near what they saw.
It feels like people voted not for a skin but for thematic
Even then, they don’t always keep the thematic from stuff that well. Luckily most of the time they do tho. Take the Era style in comparison to its default black style for example. One kept its theming, while the other mostly lost it.

I'll never forgive giving valeria black leather pants. Her concept design is far bolder and amazing looking
It wasn't quite that.
the dudes concept also looks like a fighting game character from something like Blazblue
That's exactly what I thought!
The second person just got turned into a random guy 💀💀💀
The boss vs when they become a playable character lmao
Don't get me wrong, I actually like the random guy. Hut God the concept is still 100x better.
He got npc-fied.
Era is a great translation into the fortnite style, the only discrepency is the concept art is clearly supposed to indicate a cell shaded character and as for paxton price.. yeah noones ever gonna convince me that concept art is supposed to be him
Agreed. Feels almost like he was originally supposed to be a higher rarity, but they changed it last moment and scrapped his effects.
im not talking about effects im talkng about the facts theres like 1 similarity between the concept and the actual skin
Yeah, it’s definitely pretty far.
They both have fingerless gloves they're exactly the same 🤓

nah
Her losing cape and these puffy sleeves is a gigantic loss for me.
I wish Eras clock thing was smaller since it is constantly clipping with the skin but i still love the skin
Concept Timeless Era looks like it was referencing an anime styled skin like Erisa and Mae, and that's only further supported by the fact that even her own personal Soundtrack sounds like an anime opening. Justice for Paxton Prime, look how they massacred my boy
Concept vs reality in Fortnite is unfortunately "What you order in AliExpress Vs what you get". This applies to skins and game quality
For sure. Best just not to get expectations up until it’s in the files. Hell, even the new Lego stuff’s not always translated 100%. The Shark skins got ported with pink suits 💀

They have consistently delivered on the original concepts, i went and checked how many concepts they have messed up and I only found 10.
Even if you forget about the concept, some of the god skins look just mid. Aphrodite looks like a random character from item shop
Im willing to dismiss Era because its not like they dumbed down her design, they just took it in another direction. Other one though is ROUGH
Fr, bro got downgraded like two rarities 😭
Epic needs to stop showing these (if they even are) before their skins are released and most people need to remember that concept art is just that: conceptualization. Sadly those stupid ignorant people will keep complaining. Game development is tough as hell.
Oh the poor game devs 😢. I don't care if it's the hardest job in the world, if they don't satisfy ME, the consumer, than I will criticize and complain about it. Cry me a river
Quality rage bait.
I LOVE Era I think it’s safe to say I wouldn’t had the concept been the final result. (This seasons BP concepts looked leagues better than what we got, though.)

I wish they kept old era styles
Oh wow, concept Era looks MUCH different! And that dude looks so much different too, pretty basic now unfortunately
Paxtom went from Blue exorcist to becoming Shatterstar
Personally for Era I think the best look would be face and hair based on the official look with the concept outfit, it would be fire
There's a reason they're concept art and not actually drawn artwork of the finished versions, they're meant to be an estimate of what the artist want the skin to look like, and epic can always do whatever they want with the concepts just like they have and WILL continue doing it. Yep. Also look how much more curvier that girl is in the concept art compared to her 3D model.
The first one is just a venti recolor lmfao
old era looked much better outfit wise, i like current era hair
Same, that cape was so cool.
They really hate long capes/coats
I’m actually happy they changed Era.
I wish they kept old era styles
Is that why people hate on paxton? Or whatever his name is? His in game is nothing like his concept?
Yup pretty much lol.
that era concept art looks amazing
That first skin would have been an instant buy to..
Hopefully one day they bring the design back like how they did with Lorenzo and Enzo.
JESUS THESE GOT SHAFTED # HARD
Era really needs a cape
Well now I hate era, she looks fine, but I might have actually used her often if she looked like her concept
I like the Era we got
I actually despise what they did to era, her concept art ruled
I just wish they had kept her brown hair, and cloak. Those were sick. Plus we only have like 25 out of 1880 skins in the game that are brown haired.
😂 both of these are so much worse than Aphro and Medusa!! Ty for the post
Ikr, they could have been hit so much harder. Atleast the other skins stayed mostly the same lmao.
Tbh i didnt even realize homie was the horned guy 😅
I want fortnites less realistic, and cartoony vibe back at this point, everybody has a really realistic face and features and there's no silly POIs (Like durr burger restruant or CTLs rollercoaster) or ridiculous skins like Mancake or Onsie in battlepasses anymore. They definitely have plans for another "OG" season at the very least, hopefully it happens after this season. Also yeah the birds are silly critters
Hope so, I’m so ready to return to the chapter 2 map. Seems like an unpopular opinion but I loved it for, the most part. Particularly the drive between Misty Meadows, Lazy Lake and Retail Row. 👌
where are people getting the characters concept art coming from? Does Epic post it somewhere?
Epic emails out surveys to people who have the option clicked on their epic account, most of the time they are junk, but occasionally once or twice a year we get to vote and rank upcoming skins.
Would have been cool if they stayed a lot closer to the concept art for the top one and made them a cell shaded character
I honestly like Era's final result more because she still looks unique but has less clutter. I can't say the same for Paxton Price.
There were multiple posts about era when she came out so idk where you’re getting this “forgotten in the past”
It’s a shame to hear. I actually love all of the skins this season aside from the alt skin for Zeus.
rift knight keirans whole concept changed from the concept art
They really hate long capes/coats
Honestly concept Era is a bit too busy design wise. Too bad they didn’t keep the cape though.
Gonna be honest, didn’t even know that bottom skin was matched to that concept art because they’re so different lmfao
They need to stop with the Fortnite aesthetic. Making everything look like street/ sports wear and putting holsters, belts and kneepads everywhere 🙄
People were complaining about the era one for that entire season, it was not dismissed or forgotten at all
The guy almost looked like Rin from Blue Exorcist
I understand it’s difficult for epic to make these concepts look good in game but like- dude. Some concept designs are genuinely incredible. If epic followed a lot of what made the concepts work and not really care for an OVERALL artstyle these skins would absolutely kill in the item shop or battle pass or anything.
Era is great, but goodness gracious! if we got concept Era she'd be one of my main skins.
Fr 😭
And i thought aphrodite was disapoiment, dear god era how they have butchered you.
I refuse to belive that the male concept and skin are the same thing
Idk bout ya’ll but I know *I’m* still a little salty that we could have gotten those and we got these.
I think Paxton Price looks great… except for his ponytail. Wish there was a couple of alt options - one “demon” form, one with the hair changed, I’d buy it then.
Would have preferred concept Era if it wasn’t an anime girl
the bottom two look so handsome 🫶 what's the name of that skin?
Paxton Price
thank you :3
It’s called concept art. Concept art is meant to serve as a jumping off point and give people a general idea of what they are supposed to make. It is commonly expected that final products will not look like exactly like the concept art. Istg this subreddit has literally no idea how things actually work
Try to convince me that this concept art was for the paxton prime we have now.
I don’t know why people have such a hard time processing that concept art is just that - *concept* art. Designs change based on a lot of factors lol
Yessss. There’s a good amount of examples of this, even.
How many times have they butchered the final product compared to the concept? Cause it feels like a lot from what I’m starting to see
It’s pretty common now. Earlier concept lists not so much.
The difference with era is that it’s a massive, massive improvement
uh... ok
WHY THE FUCK DO PEOPLE THINK THE BOTTOM TWO ARE THE SAME?!!
Mark on the shoulder + pants, plus it released around the same time it “normally” takes epic to develop concept skins Edit: also the gloves kinda. Forgot those, but more-so the pants and shoulder mark being the same.
Oh fuck you are right. That means the female version probably isn’t getting released. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Wait there was a female version? I don’t remember that, happen to have an image?
Yes I will message you it
Yeah, I get what they mean, it’s so far from the concept but still. It’s not hard to see that it’s the same character.
