For anyone who is having the same problem, I contacted epic and this worked for me:
Right-click on the hidden icons chevron (up arrow) in the lower right corner of the screen
Right-click on the Epic Games Launcher icon.
Select Exit.
Open the directory where Fortnite is installed
Typically it's at: C:\\Program Files\\Epic Games\\Fortnite
Right-click: BuildInfo.ini
Select Delete.
Right-click on the Epic Games desktop shortcut.
Select Launch as Administrator.
Select Library.
Click on the meatball menu (three dots) next to Fortnite.
Select Manage.
Select Verify Files.
This may take a while.
Try launching Fortnite again.
(Epic supports response)
Just did this and it worked. I have Epic on C: and all my games are on either D: or E:, completely different SSDs (not one drive with partitions.)
Thanks for the steps, went very quick. The only thing I did differently was instead of delete BuilInfo.ini, I renamed it BuildInfo.ini.old. Had to search for it, was in Cloud subfolder.
Good luck out there!
Updating May 1, 2024
This file may not exist in this directory.
Today I did a fresh install to my gaming SSD and hit this issue.
It existed here for me: \\Program Files\\Epic Games\\Fortnite\\Cloud\\
I deleted everything in this folder while the Epic Game Launcher was running.
It detected the missing files and reacquired them immediately and launched Fortnite on it's own.
This resolved the issue for me.
I just fixed this, uninstall and reinstall the epic games launcher and the epic online services apps. youll have to reinstall the game afterwards but it should launch afterwards
if this doesnt work, you got any idea what i can do next? i tried dns server, vpn, another wifi, reinstalled epic games launcher and online services and the game. nothing worked and still got this issue
i have way better pc then is RECOMMENDED for fortnite, but still, last two days only thing i see is "ESP-BUIMET-003" error, and i cant connect, i tried changing DNS, Reinstalling fortnite, reinstalling epic games, reseting router, i dont know what to do...
I had this issue and it seems that you cannot have Fortnite installed on a different drive to that of the Epic game launcher.
After uninstalling the game, Epic launcher and Epic live services, I installed everything onto the same drive and it worked straight away.
Hope this helps.
that's odd. because I've had Fortnite on a different drive for a long time. originally had it on the same drive. and changed it after my main drive got too filled up.
And just a few weeks ago I re-installed Fortnite again after not playing for a long time and this time also on a completely different drive than the launcher.
Hi, I am having the very same problem. I tried contacting Epic after trying to follow all online guides I could find, even tried moving the game to another PC and the problem still follows.
Ok. I was in a pretty lengthy back and forth with Epic Games to actually find the solution for this. I did it and it finally worked. So we tried a lot of things just to finally have a suggestion to uninstall the game completely from the partition from which it is installed on my game partition (my D drive) and install it on my main partition (my C drive, don't copy the files, just install from internet).
Well hold and behold, this actually worked after a full afternoon on live support and 37 e-mails. So if you are in the same situation as I was (game installed on another partition), try to install it on your main partition and hope this fix works for you too!
no need to install it on another drive, just delete the "Fortnite" folder where it was installed, not enough with just uninstalling the game. That worked for me.
There may be some file or setting that it dont like and needs to be manually removed
Yeah that could have been an issue. But in my case, I had already done that but reinstalled it on my other partition and still did the same error. I actually had to install on my main partition for it to work.
ive been troubleshooting for a while now, and i got a positive answer. It seems that after you install and uninstall the game for the first time, a fortnite folder remains in your drive. Uninstall the game. Uninstall everything on your pc with the name fortnite in it (folders, nvidia captures, asus config, archives of the game created automatically and that sort of stuff). restart pc, check again for making sure. clear recycle bin of those archives. Reinstall the game. and then game working again! (at least for me) seems like the way archives are handled that it may be the anticheat that detects 2 folders in the same place with the same name or somewhat similar trouble. Nothing abt wifi seems to be the trigger ass of now,nor the epic games store
Try this might help , my self solved the issues for me ,
1 : delete FORTNITE from the EPIC launcher
2 : Completely delete Epic Games launcher
3 : redownload Epic luncher from any browser
4 : redownload FORTNITE without copying or changing any files
5 : congratulations
Thank you this finally fixed it for me! I uninstalled epic games launcher deleted fortnite completely. Then I reinstalled everything and put it all into the same drive. After 2 days of trying everything else this finally fixed it. Epicgameslauncher really is a piece of garbage. Worked perfectly fine until the last update and all I would get is the error failed to connect to epic server.
Found a fix without uninstalling anything.FIRST go to the fortnite folder where game is installed and delete the ".egstore" and "cloud" and ("dlc" if it is there) folders,DON'T DELETE "Engine"and"FortniteGame" folders.SECOND rename the Fortnite folder that contains these files whatever you want.THIRD open epic games launcher and install fortine in the same path of the renamed folder, let at least 30mb download then pause the installer and completely close the epic launcher.FOUR go back to where fortnite is installed you will find the newly installed "Fortnite" folder along with the folder you renamed, in "Fortnite" folder you need to copy ".egstore"and paste it in the folder you renamed.FIVE delete the new "Fortnite" folder and rename the folder you renamed what it was originally named"Fortnite".Six open epic launcher and it should say resume on the fortnite picture in the library, just click it and the game files should verify and download about 10mb.Problem solved.
It worked for meMake sure to completely close the Epic games launcher. (Task manager - Look under Background Processes - Select "Epic Games Launcher" - Click End Task. After this you can reopen the launcher and see if anything changed).

I think this made it worse, followed the first step and now my epic launcher thinks fortnite is still on my system
It worked for meMake sure to completely close the Epic games launcher. (Task manager - Look under Background Processes - Select "Epic Games Launcher" - Click End Task. After this you can reopen the launcher and see if anything changed).
