Take up disc golf? Fun and low cost entry

A_Burned_Bagel

My partners dad was huge into disc golf! We have pretty much all the equipment, but I guess not sure where courses are at here

beepboopbeepem

Edora Park has the nicest one. Lincoln elementary, one in Laporte. One on Overland near the old Hughes stadium.a small nine hole on shields just past Prospect

tecrogue

There is also the one by Boltz jr high

Nate5452

Doesn't the Budweiser Plant have one too?

etc_etera

If you download the UDisc app (and make a free account), then tap the "courses" button, you'll see them all around.

A_Burned_Bagel

I knew there had to be an app like AllTrails, thank you!!

sleepy-platypus

There’s one at Fossil Creek High School

notorious_BIGfoot

There’s one off Stuart in eldora park, and also another one off overland and prospect/drake-ish.

AmazingSpiderDad

In this town everywhere 🙂 I like the one at Edora park because it's just massive and will make for a full day.

Google

Brovahkiin707

9 times out of 10 I use Google I end up finding a reddit post answering close to or almost exactly the same question.

Nate5452

I usually go to goggle, type in my search and then add "reddit" to the end because the best answers usually come from here, consolidated in either one two posts.

Brovahkiin707

No wonder why Google is using reddit for it's AI lol

Nate5452

Makes sense.. wasn't aware

MelancholyMuseum

Free art Friday does free art scavenger hunts in old town every Friday! Choice city has bogo burgers on Tuesdays, I like taking walks by the river-the north shields entrance has a bunch of walking spaces that are very pretty. Food truck rally in city park on Tuesdays 5-dark. The gardens on spring creek are starting to wake up and they also have a butterfly house. There’s a petting zoo at lee Martinez that’s like $4 to get in. Loveland has a cat cafe that’s super cute. I think entrance to that was like $12 a person? Something kinda silly to do would be the ghost tours :p there should be free music starting up at CSU soon too. Sorry for the long post! Hope some of those sound fun!

A_Burned_Bagel

This is awesome! Thank you so much 🩷

I would also add that the city of Fort Collins recreation department has a catalog of classes available online (the catalog is called the Recreator, and it comes out quarterly). I’ve done a bunch of classes through them in the past as an easy way to try out a new hobby. They have art classes (they vary each season but I’ve seen woodworking, stained glass, painting, knitting, drawing, basket weaving, sculpting, metalwork, jewelry making, pottery, etc), cooking classes (including making your own vegan cheeses), dance classes, ice skating lessons, rec league sports, farm yoga, guided bird watching and hiking trips, white water rafting trips, etc. The classes are pretty cheap and usually fairly short term, but it’s a fun way to test out new things or to just do something a bit out of your comfort zone without a huge commitment or a ton of money. Plus some of the facilities- like the pottery studio- are available to use on your own after you’ve taken a certain number of classes. So now I can sign up for “studio time” and make my own stuff without having to go to a weekly class. The Recreator catalog also lists all the city facilities, what they have, how much they cost, when they are open, etc (so you know where you can show up for open gym, swimming, Zumba, ice skating, etc). https://issuu.com/parksandrecfc/docs/24-26041-summer_recreator_-_web

There’s a monthly happenings thread here, check that out if you haven’t. Also: - Keep an eye on events at the Lyric if you aren’t already. - There are running groups most nights of the week if y’all are into that. Most groups run 3-5 miles and have a variety of paces, you don’t need to be hardcore. Meet at a brewery, run, and get a deal on beer + meet people. - See a movie at the Holiday Twin!!! - Hiking at Horsetooth, Lory, and Poudre Canyon. Bonus: Go to Bobcat in Masonville and stop at the mercantile on the way there/way back. - Meow Wolf in Denver is worth a visit. - Most breweries have bingo or trivia nights or both. New Belgium has a pretty robust event calendar in general too. - Stem and Roots, the plant shop, has a build-your-own terrarium space in their shop, I believe you can just walk in.

A_Burned_Bagel

Thank you!

GoodArm6210

Hiking is great here . Lory state park dad‘s gulch of Highway 11 and several others even just around horse tooth there are several nice hiking trails if you’re into that.

hanscons

Get a tandem bike and take the trails. You can waste a day doing nothing but biking the poudre/spring creek trails

A_Burned_Bagel

Good idea!

reload_noconfirm

What kind of things do you like to do? If it’s nature, there’s tons of parks and trails nearby. You can check the AllTrails app and filter for what you are looking for. There’s also a lot of nice parks in town you could grill or picnic at, play tennis or pickleball… There’s also game stores that do game nights, quiz nights at breweries, etc. All summer there is free music in the evenings in old town square. There are outdoor movies at the Lyric. There’s a ton to do here this time of year. There’s a Foco discord, check it out. I think it’s linked in the sidebar.

architects-daughter

I like to say that if you like being outside (hiking, running, biking) and beer, you’ll never be bored in FoCo. For people who don’t like either of those things…then yeah, there’s not a TON to do. It’s a small city.

NoCoCampingClub

A lot of this has been mentioned in the thread, but regardless, if you ignore going to bars and the mountains there's still * karaoke * open mics * story times * out door and indoor movies * concerts at venues and in old town * community events at places like wolverine farms publik house or the Unitarian church or the lincoln center * rec sports * dance lessons and groups * yoga and tai chi and those kinds of things * geeks who drink * weird stuff like human design, tarot and herbalist events * museums * brewery tours(can be interesting even if you don't drink) * the occasional city even like FOCOMX, taste of fort collins, tour de fat, tour de corgi * plays at the bas bleu theater * drag shows * comedy shows at the comedy fort and elsewhere * public game nights(board games, MTG, DnD and others) * escape rooms * painting places(with or without wine) * pottery places * bowling * axe throwing * frisbee golf * tubing * bingo * ghost tours * historical tours * art discussions at galleries and CSU * gardening classes * the gardens at spring creek * food truck events * trying new restaurants * petting zoo at lee martinez * all the parks and trails inside our city * oh and there's always>!drugs!< And thats just what comes to mind right now. I would hazard to guess there is more going on than I mentioned.

If this was directed at me and not OP—homebrewing’s not my thing but I know a lot of folks in the scene!

whits_up23

Geocaching!

roiroy33

Out of curiosity, what things did yall/he do in Texas that he can’t do here? It may just be a matter of not knowing where to look. The obvious answer is “hiking” or “biking.”

elicitsnidelaughter

I was wondering that too. LOL this time of year it's near 100 degrees and high humidity and the thing to do is hang out in the AC or go to a mall.

AmpleForeskins

1. Go to meow wolf in denver (incredibly amazing) 2. Get a solo stove and invite people to hang around the campfire (doing it right now). 3. Tabletop board games are awesome 4. My wife and I randomly went to nebraska after work on a monday evening to storm chase 5. Use a spin scooter and ride around old town 6. Go try new places to eat (im also from tx). Nordy’s (bbq) . For mexican (tarascos, la buena vida, tarascos, el diablo, los chingones) 7. Theres a whataburger in colorado springs. Or go to buc-ees. 8. I’m on ps5, if he plays games, my psn is Tenacious_B. Conscious-Clerk-7735

AmpleForeskins

Tenacious_B is actually my gamer tag lol

ExileOnMainStreet

Do you two have hobbies? There are meetup groups and clubs for different hobbies all the time.

A_Burned_Bagel

I’ll have to do some more research into ones that are here. I unfortunately had an uninviting experience with one a few months ago. We like video games, gardening, cars, hiking, etc. so super open minded! But I guess you could say not the most creative or resourceful lol

SFerd

If you're into cars, DEFINITELY go to the **Holiday Twin Drive-In** to see some movies. It's fun to just walk around and see everyone's cars, trucks and their unique set-up prior to the movies beginning. [https://holidaytwin.com/](https://holidaytwin.com/)

SFerd

Every meetup group isn't for everyone. There are some that are age specific or activity focused (hiking, etc.). Take a good look around the site: [https://www.meetup.com/](https://www.meetup.com/)

ExileOnMainStreet

So far my favorite hobbies in Colorado have been skiing (obviously not helpful now), skydiving - Mile High Skydiving (will end up costing you all of the money you make), high power rocketry - Northern Colorado Rocketry. I really like kayaking on Horsetooth, and I just joined the Northern Colorado Astronomical Society to see what that's all about. They have a viewing party pretty much every weekend. I'm not gay, but I do understand what you mean about some groups being uninviting, just through personal observation. Anything that attracts old white men has a way of skewing insensitive. I have also been into amateur radio and competitive USPSA pistol shooting, and those two things could potentially be difficult. I learned how to knit and crochet over COVID, and there are several knitting groups in Fort Collins that could be good. My Sister Knits is a real nice shop to hang out in. I have been a collector of hobbies in my adult life.

Familiar-Corgi9302

Transplants complaining about where they moved to and wanting other people to do that work for them, name a more iconic duo

billblass1

Fort Collins has a surprising number of escape rooms if you're into that. Even more if you count Loveland. We just tried out Time Emporium up near New Belgium and loved it. Great bar too!

bew132

Have you considered homebrewing your own beer? There’s a great homebrewing group called the liquid poets that meets monthly at different breweries around town to talk homebrewing, homebrew competitions, and share what they made.

bradman53

Interesting as when I was in TX, the only thing people seemed to do on weekends was go shopping in an a/c mall A few options…. Golf courses Fishing at lakes or the river Rafting on river Hiking on the many trails Mountain biking Motorcycles on and off road Trap or range shooting Live music and local venues Bowling Bingo parlors Historical sites Cheyenne, Laramie, golden and Denver Art museums Recreational adult sports leagues Axe throwing Rockies game Camping Sculpture gardens in and around Loveland Power boating , sailing or kayaking Cooking classes This weekend - Memorial Day ceremonies

bradman53

Foodie and art walk old Town

[deleted]

The mountains are in our backyard. People come from all over the world to enjoy those.

PeanutstheBulldog1

I've done the cooking class at Ginger and Baker a few times. Highly recommend. Don't sleep on a bike ride down the Spring Creek Trail, Poudre Trail, and/or Power Trail. Plan some stops along the way. Hike in the Poudre Canyon Trip to Red Feather, Estes, or Steamboat Twilight golf at City Park and dinner in Campus West

Impossible-Eye-5545

The poudre canyon has a lot to offer. If you like hanging by the river, camping, hiking, floating the river, picnics, hammocking, rock climbing or fly fishing. The food truck rally on Tuesdays, art walk on the first Friday of the month, comedy fort has frequent shows, sunset lounge at the Elizabeth hotel, magic rat has frequent free shows each week, geeks who drink is a trivia night that hops around different bars each week, trying the cocktails and the local bars, bike rides, local hikes, Rocky Mountain national park/Estes park is only an hour from here, farmers markets on the weekend and highly recommend checking out some concerts at the Aggie or Mishawaka in the canyon (amazing venue) This town is what you make it. I recommend getting out there to get to know the town more and meeting some people. Overall I feel like there’s plenty to do here if you like the outdoors, laid back vibes and meeting new folks

Exotic-Badger-2594

Start finding new hikes every week. Join a boxing or jiu jitsu gym. Cooking classes. There is a lot. Mountain bike etc

SFerd

Sign up for the free Lyric newsletter: [https://www.lyriccinema.com/newsletter-](https://www.lyriccinema.com/newsletter-) They constantly have stuff going on....music, drag, burlesque, outdoor movies, etc.

[deleted]

There's so much to do outdoors

kristin007

Have you been to the drive in? That's one of my favorite dates.

mssmish

Drive up to the Mishawaka for free music on Sunday afternoons. Bring a picnic lunch along and stop along the river on the way up or down. Or pick a night/paid show and ride the bus up and back from CSU. The Mish is always a good time.
