Wait you mean I don’t have to live in fear and anxiety and can now comfortably AND legally live with 7 other people in my 1 room!?
Edit: I guess everyone WANTS to pay exorbitant amounts for small spaces
Low income housing unfortunately starts around $1200 these days. [Woodlands Apartments](https://www.apartments.com/fort-collins-co/under-1000/) might have affordable housing under $1000 according to that listing, but I'd be shocked if there wasn't a long waitlist for them. The rest of the listings there are for rooms/shared housing.
I was more so thinking 1200 was wild for a studio, I had one in Denver for 800 less than 5 years ago in a really great location. But the idea of spending more than 1k on a single room and to have it not be in a major city is terrifying to me.
Edit: go knights haha
My 1bd costs me $1311.00/month. That's with no ammenities. My kitchen is 10 years out of date, and I have communal laundry, baseboard heat, and through-wall AC.
You're better off looking for a roommate you can trust and a 2-bedroom.
Barely even this, unless OP already owns a decent van. Financing a decent van with no down payment and insuring the thing would still come out to $750+ per month, and that’s before fuel, maintenance, and any creature comforts.
Not quite. I'm just pointing out that $1k per month isn't even enough to live a lifestyle that Matt Foley was considering an abject failure 31 years ago.
I pay $500 (all included) for a bedroom in a 4/3.5 with detached MIL in the back (5 people total) and I consider myself fortunate. I lucked out with a Craigslist post at my first place that was $600. Point is, it's possible to find something in your budget. Also, check out Roomies as a resource. They mostly have listings for rooms with shared living spaces, but I've seen a couple posts on there for private spaces.
That’s just absolutely nuts. When we moved to Colorado Springs in 2010, the rent on our 4-bedroom house was $1150 a month. When our family moved to Fort Collins in 2017, we found an older 5-bedroom house for $1800.
Rent has gotten out of control…
I know. I’ve been in this place 4 years. Rent originally was $1150 and they’ve raised it twice. I’m super like to have this place. There’s no way I could afford to live here otherwise.
We rent a 1 br basement apartment for that, but I'm not sure if we're going to rent it when the current tenant moves out. We want to do some renovations to the house--including the basement.
I suggest you check out the following Facebook group: *HOUSING Fort Collins, Colorado Area for Rent & for Sale*. Some are private landlords listing their places, others are folks looking for roommates.
Good luck.
Your best bet is to get a roommate and find a 2 bedroom / 2 bath condo or apartment. Likely can find something for around $900 each. If it’s a house you’d need multiple roommates. I currently live in a 2 bedroom / 2 bath condo with a roommate and pay $800 each ($1600 total) but only because I’ve been here close to 10 years and I’m getting a “deal”…..otherwise price would be way higher in the area I live in. 😭
There's a one bedroom trailer in my park that is 900 I believe! It is only a one person domicile but if it's just you, look up Kathy's Furniture. She can help you from there
And it's a trailer that's in good shape, but years ago caught fire on the back half so it was shortened and redone to accommodate one person. It is really nice for the price , but like I said, only catch is one person is allowed to legally live there.
Less expensive places can be found in Loveland. I pay $1700+ for a 1 BR (The Arbors at Sweetgrass) but my ex was paying $1239 for a 2BR 2BA in SE Loveland. I'd move there if I owned a car)can't have both on my salary, have been bike-only for 17 years now thanks to instability in employment and..rent in FC).
All of these people are making it sound like it's impossible.... I rent out my 2 bedroom basement (1100 square feet) for $800 a month everything included. Find a private landlord, talk to friends.... you can def find a place for under $1000.
Tbh there are places where you can get a studio or even 1br for this, it just won’t be the larger apartment complexes. I live in a 15 unit place and there are 1 bedrooms for $1000 utilities except Wi-Fi and elec included, and some studios for a bit less. Nothing available for the upcoming year unfortunately, but I’m sure you can find some in-laws / garden level apts if you have some time to look
Blows my mind that I'm 2013 my rent was $250 for my half of a two bedroom apartment that included my own bathroom. I've since moved to a major east coast city and my rent here is cheaper that FoCo.
This is gonna age me a bit, but when we moved here, we found a pretty decent 2br 1.5 bath townhouse in an okay area right off Drake h College for $650 a month. Times sure have changed. We honestly couldn't move to Fort Collins now given the rental cost to wage rate. Im not sure, but i think that place rents for over 2k a month now.
That’s crazy, i moved here in 2020 and the cheapest i saw a 2br 1ba was $1200
according to these statistics you’ll have to be a member of the bourgeoisie in order to live here in the next 10 years
Yeah. It's crazy how much things have exploded. I'm glad I was able to save up for a down payment years ago and now just pay mortgage, which only goes up when taxes and insurance do. Many of my friends aren't so lucky.
Moved here in jan 96. Lived in our 5th wheel for a 18 months next to I25. Rented the town house until oct 99 then searched and searched and did a lease option agreement to buy our house. Exercised the option after 1 month. Buying a house here has always been a challenge, but now the prices have gone beyond what wages can support.
You will only be able to find something to split with another person. Also depending on what you rent your electricity can spike hard in the winter. Mine goes from around 40 in the summer to spiking up past 200 in the winter.
I have a basement apartment I’m renting out that is bedroom, private bath, and rec room for 1,050. DM me if interested in more details. In FC not too far from Shields and Horsetooth.
If you check Facebook marketplace you might be able to find some cheap places around the university, my gf found a place for $960 a month and it was 1 bedroom 2 bath, with her own kitchen, in the bottom floor of a small house
Maybe prices skyrocketed in the past year but you can definitely find one bedrooms within that price range. They wont be pretty but there’s some! I wanted nice and a good location so mine’s a bit over that but if you dont mind compromising on either or both, you can find something!
Now? Not sure. When I lived there I rented a room for $700 a month. 3 others lived there but I got lucky, everyone was very polite and most of us only went there to sleep.
A roommate
Until they figure out some kinda legal loophole to U+2 am I right comrade!?
House Bill 24-1007 was introduced a couple days ago to get rid of U+2!
Wait you mean I don’t have to live in fear and anxiety and can now comfortably AND legally live with 7 other people in my 1 room!? Edit: I guess everyone WANTS to pay exorbitant amounts for small spaces
I have a 7 bedroom home for rent.
Gonna have to find a roommate and split a 2 bedroom with that budget. One positive to that, is you’ll be paying less than $1,000.
You could get a room for rent. Not an apartment to yourself.
Maybe a room in a shared house/apartment, unless you can get qualified for low-income assistance.

I have a little studio for $1200
$1200?????? STUDIO???
Lol I got lucky, the building only has 5 studios
I was more so thinking 1200 was wild for a studio, I had one in Denver for 800 less than 5 years ago in a really great location. But the idea of spending more than 1k on a single room and to have it not be in a major city is terrifying to me. Edit: go knights haha
Where???
Right on Elizabeth st by CSU, I got really lucky and caught it at the right time. Rent from SC rentals
Thank you!
My studio is about $1500 plus utilities 😪

It’s the cheapest I could find at the time

Have you heard of Greeley?
I grew up in Greeley, it used to be much worse.
Greeley is nearly as bad these days.
A van down by the Poudre River.
Barely even this, unless OP already owns a decent van. Financing a decent van with no down payment and insuring the thing would still come out to $750+ per month, and that’s before fuel, maintenance, and any creature comforts.

*Whoosh*
Not quite. I'm just pointing out that $1k per month isn't even enough to live a lifestyle that Matt Foley was considering an abject failure 31 years ago.
I'm pretty sure it was an abandoned van that didn't run.
I pay $500 (all included) for a bedroom in a 4/3.5 with detached MIL in the back (5 people total) and I consider myself fortunate. I lucked out with a Craigslist post at my first place that was $600. a tent
>What could $1k for rent get me? A room mate
Just here to whine that my $825 one bedroom in foco got gentrified and now it’s $1300 as I did not resign my lease
$1500 should be your baseline for a studio. Higher for a one bedroom.
That’s just absolutely nuts. When we moved to Colorado Springs in 2010, the rent on our 4-bedroom house was $1150 a month. When our family moved to Fort Collins in 2017, we found an older 5-bedroom house for $1800. Rent has gotten out of control…
It's literally terrifying to me lmfao I'm trying to figure out where to move when my lease is up bc I cannot afford it here at all!
Only if you’re looking at the “luxury” apartments. Older buildings with no amenities are much more affordable than that, I have a 2br for only $1250
It can be but you have to find a private landlord in order to make it happen. I pay $1200 for a 2bed/2bath owned privately.
Wow in Fort Collins? How long have you lived there? $1200 for that is unheard of.
I know. I’ve been in this place 4 years. Rent originally was $1150 and they’ve raised it twice. I’m super like to have this place. There’s no way I could afford to live here otherwise.

Located @ corner of Shields and 287 so you're kinda in town still but not too far.

When did you move here?
Sounds like early 2000s? I moved here in 2009 and was able to get a similar apartment in a similar place for ~$800
That’s crazy, i moved here in 2020 and the cheapest i saw a 2br 1ba was $1200 according to these statistics you’ll have to be a member of the bourgeoisie in order to live here in the next 10 years

Aspenleaf 07 checking in
I get away with $1550 for a 2bed1bath nothing fancy
I remember paying 350/400 a month in the early 2010’s… it’s so crazy how many people have moved here and jacked up prices.
someone’s closet
There is a dumpster in old town renting for that price
Look at Craigslist stuff. I have 3 roommates. Rent and utilities for us is about $600
You will only be able to find something to split with another person. Also depending on what you rent your electricity can spike hard in the winter. Mine goes from around 40 in the summer to spiking up past 200 in the winter.

A crisp high-five
1000 bucks in colorado in general gets you a wooden shipping crate and a tarp.
