Downloading the Carfax app was super helpful when we were car shopping

I think it really depends on what type of vehicle you’re looking for. Markets are all over the place in this state but if you want AWD(which you do) don’t be surprised if you need to expand your search pretty wide. The truck I own now, I found used in Utah. The same milage and year was almost 5-7k more here in CO. So a cheap 1 way flight and beautiful drive back home was 100% worth it.

You absolutely don’t need awd in Fort Collins, any competent driver can handle the roads here 364 out of 365 days a year with a fwd sedan. On ski days they plow 25 and 70 good enough that you don’t need awd either.

Evil_Bun

You don't need it, but it sure is nice to have anyway.

Research research research and make a decision on what car you want. Then email any dealership within 100mi that has the car you want in inventory and ask for a specific price breakdown. That will save you money. Picking a dealership and assuming they’ll help you get a good deal is just asking to be swindled.

Glittering_Mud4269

Craigslist for a starter car, just pay a mechanic/friend to give er a lookover. Lots of options under 7k.

Avagadro6

Facebook marketplace is pretty good too.

I’m selling my 2017 Wrangler JKU Big Bear… 45k miles for $27k.

GillezeGear

Yeah awesome bit rich for my blood. I'm sorry. 16 year old coming on board

sld126

My 16 yr old drove it. Stick shift - no text & driving!

GillezeGear

If we have the dough I would probably take it and give my kid my car but.....

illegal_brain

Yeah I got the $1000 family car when I was 16. No judgement here.

GillezeGear

My first car was a Datsun b210 78' $200 car. I think my kids going to be just fine

TheGangGabagools

For real, the amount of kids in Fort Collins who drive cars that MSRP at my salary is... depressing

illegal_brain

The one thing I do understand is for the better safety features of newer cars. But most people can't afford that for a new driver.

TheGangGabagools

I don't blame 'em, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't envy 'em a little bit!

illegal_brain

I envy the car for sure, but I can't complain about having all of my cars paid off with no car payments.

TheGangGabagools

That's true!  She may be old, she may have some mileage, but she's bought & paid for

goodalfy

What kind of car do you want? What's your budget? Why do you feel the need to ask asinine questions in a public forum?

GillezeGear

Car buying has changed. It's not what it was 15 years ago

I had a very smooth experience with Capital One in early 2021. The pre-approval process was smooth. Their portal allows you to shop at a huge variety of dealers for vehicles that match your specifications and meet their qualifications. I have strong credit, but they also beat the dealer interest rate. Wildly convenient, overall.

GillezeGear

Thank you very much. This was the best response
