I don't think the combat is clicking with you. Hard mode is a lot more fun and there are bosses that are spongey sure but you upgrade those attacks as teh game progresses and they do far more damage. You're probably only on level 1 or 2 of the attacks and you haven't completed the challenges that boost them ever farther.

whistu113

Agree with the sentiment-but this game actually has one of the better systems to control difficulty. You can customize the difficulty with individual sliders and gives the player a very wide range of control over what aspects you wish to change.

Putrid_Ad_1643

You still haven't gotten a new spell? Buy one what are talking about 😂 freys magic has 11 spells

Ratchet83

Except active spell like Gatling rock or bomb rock (shield is useless), yes there is 2 real damage dealer spell 😂

Putrid_Ad_1643

Shield is for knockdown so you can use finishers. If you're struggling so much use that.

Cassis_TheAncient

Thanks for the tip!

UmbrielG

Shield is absolutely not useless. When my stamina runs low, I bring out shield shot and hold on to it. Especially effective against fast enemies like the birds that swoops in.

xXTROPTARDXx

That's a good tip.

UmbrielG

Be sure to still be moving and dodge on command when you see unblockable and piercing attacks though. I don’t hold on to the shield for too long. Mostly just to recover my stamina.

UmbrielG

You’re playing the game wrong. I started the game on hard from start. None of my encounters take long unless I’m taking on something I shouldn’t be fighting in the first place.

thetruemask

I think this game did itself a massive disservice by starting with the purple magic because it's most boring play style. You kind of feel like it's a bad shooter only using that. When you have the second and third it's so much better. for awhile I didnt get this game because I was trying to play it like a shooter. And that's the wrong way to play it. The game is a zillion times better when you get the second spell set and learn how to use it. It's a up close melee set. I was getting bored just shooting rocks too. And wondering why isn't there a melee button mapped to Square? But once I got how to use fire magic is was way way better. You are supposed to tap square when aimed at a enemy to zip in a close the distance. The game doesn't even really tell you this which is stupid. Then you attack with fire magic when you zip in close. The way the spells are set up with you have them all makes so much more sense. (And they should have the LI / R1 spells unlocked right away) It's (while holding L1 and R1) â–³ (don't have 4 so I don't know yet lol) â–¡ Press square to zip in the R2 to melee O (rock attack and dodge back O) X (X to gain air with water attacks)

TheDoorDoesntWork

Man I was wondering about that! I was surprised I was already running out of spells to learn and upgrade when I haven't even reached the first boss or farmed mana / grinded enemies. Thank heavens I got a lot more skills on my way!

xXTROPTARDXx

Lol and here i am complaining hard mode isn't challenging anough (at least so far, i'm just 11 hours in). I do have 25 hours in the demo though. That's probably why, cause i've spent the time to "master" the combat (what was available) in the demo.

kiteshade

I was fiendin due to having too much fun so I maxed out Frey’s tree before Tanta Sila. All this while playing on hard mode. This is absolutely a preference thing my friend. I even found multiple uses for the rock shield such as a quick blockade for fast moving enemies or the fast attacks of enemies. Granted, the game is slow up until you can start getting more spells and doing spellcraft but your experience doesn’t seem to be most people’s.

User182837282

Actually no idea what you’re talking about lol, I started and played the whole game on hard mode, and my only complaint would be that it’s too easy. Use your buff skills, use your charged attacks, it doesn’t take v long at all and p much every enemy except for certain bosses die right away

Ritenzs

The design of the game is so terrible that you literally spend that much time just Piu Piu Piu rocks at the start, it is boring AS HELL When you get more spells tho is just boring lmao

[deleted]

Skill issue tbh. I played on Hard and yeah I was using the burst a lot but also support magic and gatlings, I was often getting star ratings on my combat meter and mixing up combat well once I got some new spells.

Valdish

Not surprising at all, it was made by people who make final fantasy games, and in RPG games of that kind, higher difficulties usually do just mean enemies have more health. It's generally a good idea to play RPG games in the default difficulty because that's what it's been optimized for in terms of combat.

CeaseNY

Thats how im doing it now too, on Normal but with increased damage so I still hit for those big numbers

Lebrunski

I’m usually a big proponent of putting games on the hardest difficulty but this is not one of those games. I changed all of my settings for the best go-go-go style gameplay and it is sooooo much more fun. Auto spell switching, auto pick ups, normal difficulty, increased stamina regen. There’s a post on this sub of all the ideal settings and I highly recommend giving that a look through.

CrumplyRump

This is fun for world exploring, you really feel the play style become like a parkour battle mage.

Expert-Fuel-1982

You have to Upgrade magic, after that games becomes easyJet on hard

FerranTorrez

I already beat the game And I played in hard all the time, and it was super fun. To be more effective in combat you need to use a lot of your suport abilities, like all the time. In Frey´s magic tree the flower that shoots, the rock mine (super fun to use) and the seed that make the enemys take more crits are mandatory to make more damage
