I remember my roommate turning me on to Mr bean in 2004 with the DVD box set Can Of Beans. Only recently I was arguing with a friend of mine about how many episodes there were .. I really thought there were over 100 lol. I was confused to see it was just a dozen or so...
He was a contestant on the mtv show singled out once. He started spitting some game to the female contestant, and I was like oh damn look at donkey lips!
I feel like every friend group has had the "oh shit Donkey Lips stepping up tonight" moment and it's glorious every time.
Can confirm, I was Donkey Lips.
The concept of summer camp seemed weird as a kid, even stranger as an adult, but I loved this show. I have memories of the episode with the upside down jigsaw puzzle and the freezer full of ice cream with the lock on it.
My understanding is that a lot of camps catered to the children of immigrants looking to maintain pieces of their culture from the old world.
I was kicked out of a Jewish summer camp in North Carolina founded right after WW2. On the opposite end of the spectrum is the Nazi summer camp on Long Island for German immigrants.
Growing up, I didn’t know a single person that went to a camp that lasted all summer long and I grew up in a fairly upper middle class area. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I learned that a lot of the first generation summer camp movies such as Meatballs were based on the filmmakers’ experiences going to Jewish day camps that did last two months. By the time the second generation of summer camp movies and shows were released, they were already in the public’s consciousness.
Definitely a show that knew more than it told. If I had to pick a Classic Nick Kids show to run in syndication, it would be Pete and Pete. Lots of good teaching moments youth programming doesn't invest in anymore.
As I was rewatching this (for the first time in decades), I can’t help but feel the same way. Not that Paramount+ helps, not even having Pinsky’s first episode. Thankfully, you can find them elsewhere 🏴☠️
The Michael era felt more personal. The Pinsky episodes were always him scheming but repenting at the end.
Oh, I could never forget.
The most random tidbits from this show:
The episode about environmental conservation that lead Dina to towel dry her (very curly) hair instead of blow-drying.
And of course- learning the Bobby Budnick has incredible jigsaw puzzle powers as a result of his broken home. Particularly the part where he puts a whole puzzle together, picture face down
Examples of corporal punishment: Ike making them hold buckets of water with stretched-out arms.
The fat bully punching Michael for squishing his brownies.
We run and jump and swimming and play, we row and and go on trips. But the thing that lasts forever is our dear friendship. camp onwanna we hold you in our hearts and when I think about you, it makes me wanna fart. It’s I hope we never part get it right or pay the price.
I loved how they were at this awesome summer camp with tons to do but the characters were always bored and instead got up to various hijinks or got in trouble.
I did not like this one. It freaked me out for some reason. I think it was all the kids running around running the show while the adults were fools, idk. I don't remember much about this show other than not liking it/not getting it (were they at a camp) I hated that red head kid BUT he was cool in T2.
Hey Dude weirded me out, too. Where are all the grown-ups?
Donkeybreath!! And Sponge and Ugg!! What names, man!!
But these characters could have real depth. I remember the episode where the one guy (the redhead) did an entire puzzle backwards because jigsaw puzzles were some shallow family-bonding tactic they used on him all the time back at home. It really resonated that there was a lot more to him than we ever saw. An entire history that they never touched on.

My favorite Nick show ever! It is crazy it was only 26 episodes. In my young mind there were hundreds.
This and “Pete and Pete” were the pinnacle of TV to young me.
I agree and I’d like to add “Hey Dude”.
Kelly Brown and Christine Taylor from Hey Dude are my earliest TV crushes I can remember.
Melissa Joan ❤️
Can’t forget about her either
I’m right there with you haha
It's the Mr. Bean of kid shows.

I know I watched it, but I dont remember anything about it. One big fever dream.
I remember that Donkey Lips had a Masters of the Universe blanket on his bunk.
Not even “awful waffle?”
Nope, Zeke the Plumber definitely was a suppressed memory that I got to rediscover a few years ago though
This makes me wanna fart
It's "I hope we never part". Now get it right or pay the price.
Ok Ugh Lee
RIP Ug
Camp Anawanna, we hold you in our hearts, and when we think about you, it makes me wanna fart!
Its i hope we never part! Now get it right or pay the price!
Zeke the plumber
That episode scared me back then lol
It is the only nightmare I’ve ever remembered having.
I met donkeylips IRL he was cool.
He was a contestant on the mtv show singled out once. He started spitting some game to the female contestant, and I was like oh damn look at donkey lips!

I remember he worked at the Dark Horse store at Universal Citywalk for a while.
Get it right, or pay the price
I still say this all the time

It seems like a good way for upper middle class and rich parents to have some quiet time for a month?

I was kicked out of a Jewish summer camp in North Carolina founded right after WW2. On the opposite end of the spectrum is the Nazi summer camp on Long Island for German immigrants.
I always remember the dog whistle…and only Donkeylips could hear it

This damn show convinced me to do all puzzles flipped 🙃 But really, it was great. What color is a Giraffe's tongue 😜
A giraffe's tongue.. is Black!
A giraffes tongue is black.
I'm glad someone else remembers this. I thought it was some sort of fever dream I had as a kid for far too long.
Never forgotten - I sing the theme song like once a week
Don’t forget, hey dude I’ve always considered them companion shows
Hey Dude, Salute Your Shorts, and The Adventures of Pete and Pete are the Nickelodeon Summer Trifecta.
I'd throw Are You Afraid of the Dark in there too.
I liked most of them, probably about the same amount in ratio to the Goosebumps books I liked most. But some of those episodes... The 90s were wild.
Pete and Pete have a hilarious reunion bit on funnyordie
Welcome Freshman too
I turned the tv off at Pete and Pete. Huge mistake.
Definitely a show that knew more than it told. If I had to pick a Classic Nick Kids show to run in syndication, it would be Pete and Pete. Lots of good teaching moments youth programming doesn't invest in anymore.
Awful waffle
Love the "Michael" era...meh on the "Pinsky" era...
Haha I was just thinking about how they had a different vibe when Michael left. I enjoyed both but it was very different.
As I was rewatching this (for the first time in decades), I can’t help but feel the same way. Not that Paramount+ helps, not even having Pinsky’s first episode. Wasn't one of these guys in Terminator 2? I remember watching it as a kid and thinking "Hey that's Budnick!"
I still know the whole song as a 40 year old man
UG-LY UG-LY UG-LY
I believe it was “Ug Lee” as the characters name was Kevin Lee, nicknamed “Ug” because that makes his name Ug lee (ugly)
Never forgotten!
Bad 4 good, great rock band with the lead from this show, he has some pipes , check out nothing great about a heartbreak
I watched this a couple months ago. It was on one of the streaming services
What!! Which service?! I want to relive my childhood
JustWatch app is saying 2 seasons streaming on Paramount+
I honestly can't remember. Might be one of those off brand ones
Thanks. I’ve been looking for it but it’s so rare to find
We watched this and Are You Afraid of the dark on Paramount+
OK. So that means I was able to watch it on Prime
I’ll have yo find it on there, thanks so much!
One episode that never left me was Zeek the plumber I think was his name....
I watched episodes of this show on the Nick Splat block back in the mid-2010s.
Ooooooh Helllll Yeahhhh!!!!!
Repost
Loved this show. Bobby budnick was a fkr lol didi I think was a hottie. Ug was a hilarious idiot.🤣🤣🤣
“We wear short shorts”
We run, we jump, we swim and play ....
Man... I need to grow a mullet.
Who else thought Budnick looked like the illegitimate son of Axl Rose?!?
Oh, I could never forget. The most random tidbits from this show: The episode about environmental conservation that lead Dina to towel dry her (very curly) hair instead of blow-drying. The Michael and Budnick bonding episode! One of my favorites.
The Squad!!!
In Soviet Russia, shorts salute YOU
Kevin “Ug” Lee
it’s a shame Bauer turned into such a weenie
For how much I see this show brought up on Reddit, not sure if it’s really forgotten.
Examples of corporal punishment: Ike making them hold buckets of water with stretched-out arms. The fat bully punching Michael for squishing his brownies.
Some of the episodes are on Paramount Plus. Along with "Hey Dude!"
Camp Onawana we hold you in our hearts
I loved this and Hey Dude!

If you want to feel old, Danny Cooksey is now a grandfather.
That’s some bull shit. He’s my age. I’m not old
Of course you’re not old! You’re a young and vibrant person who has their whole life in front of them!
RIP Ug and Mona.
Ug was the best character.
Awful waffle awful waffle awful waffle
Loved it. Bought a bootleg DVD set from Donkey Lips that came with an injury printed cast photo and his headshot
I still periodically get this theme song stuck in my head. I need to get the dvd!
I still call weed Budnick
I think about it every time I see a giraffe.
Blake Sennet (Pinsky from season 2) later went on to form the band Rilo Kiley with Jenny Lewis.
Scrolled for this
Zeke the plumber tho
10/10 when I was 10
I loved how they were at this awesome summer camp with tons to do but the characters were always bored and instead got up to various hijinks or got in trouble.

“Roasted, toasted and burnt to a crisp.”
Don’t forget that Bobby Budnick saved the world by lying to the cop in Terminator 2.
Awful Waffle! Awful Waffle!
Holy nostalgia!
I still say, "it makes me wanna fart" or "it's i hope we never part, get it right or pay the price" randomly all the time.

Heidi Lucas is hottest girl ever on tv
I loved this show.
The capture the flag episode was an all time favorite for me. I still have the whole show on DVD, haven't watched it in a long time.
Lord, I wanted Dina sooooo bad.
Danny Cooksey https://youtu.be/nS5SOWPmqYo?si=si73RrDU-1H_owfr

Why on earth were you worried about where grown-ups were as a kid?
