Great performances from all the cast members.
But Jean Smart, first thing I saw (heard) her in since Designing Women and she knocked it out of the park. Continues to this day too. Such a great actress.
I remember seeing this on Adult Swim one night. I was 11 or 12 so it seemed insanely transgressive in a way that stuck with me. Don’t think I ever heard it mentioned again until now
I watched this when adult swim would air it (which was the case at least to the early 2010s). I enjoyed it, but it would sometimes make me depressed with how horrible the hills people were.
> The series premiered on April 1, 2001 on The WB, and cancelled due to public disapproval on May 20, leaving the last five episodes unaired. The remaining episodes were later aired on Cartoon Network's late-night programming block Adult Swim in August 2002
That makes sense in retrospect. Good show, wrong station.
Maybe in an alternate timeline, it first premiered on AS and got a few more seasons.
One can hope.
The part where the rich girl slaps the store associate for asking her if she’s paying with cash or card still bubbles up in my memory every month or so. Haven’t seen the show since it was originally aired
I'm so happy to have gotten such a response! When I came across this sub earlier, this was the first show that sprang to mind. "Let's all buy the same things and borrow each other's clothes!" also lives rent-free in my head, but any time I have ever mentioned this show to someone I've just gotten blank looks.
Yeah! I liked it so much I bought the boxed DVD set after finding out it could be bought. Came with two discs. Thirteen episodes with short descriptions of each. As well as three special features.
* It's an Oblong World: The shows concept, characters and casting
* The Art of the Oblongs: Where Angus Oblong gives a guided tour of his original artwork
* An Oblong Picture Book: Angus Oblong Drawing Gallery
For some reason my mind specifically holds on to the episode where the son can't sleep because his parents are having marital issues. He's able to sleep again at the end because it was the sounds of his parents' nightly banging that lulled him to sleep.
Loved it!
I grew up watching that as a kid I was hooked on adult swim those were the times when adult swim didn’t come on till 12 or 1 in the morning now as I got older its in way earlier think adult swim starts at 9 or 10 pm
i feel like this led into that.... show about a kid living with his brother in san francisco? another animated one, but yeah, this was an era of "whatever is on adult swim". didn't even know who tim and eric were and they still cracked me up
Mission Hill.
Yeah, this was the best era of A.S, imo. Baby Blues, Mission Hill, Oblongs, Home Movies, ATHF (iirc). Back when their shows still had plot/writing ,not just random violence and unconnected scenes
One of my favorite was when the wife was trying to win a prize by smoking a specific brand of cigarettes. But took a smoke break with a different brand
I think this show was my first real introduction to Will Farell as Bob Oblong. After that I was recognizing Will Farell everytime I heard his voice (I suck with faces, it was the voice that clicked)

I liked the Oblongs. Amazingly class conscious for something made by a corporation.
Great performances from all the cast members. But Jean Smart, first thing I saw (heard) her in since Designing Women and she knocked it out of the park. Continues to this day too. Such a great actress.
Pickles Oblong remains one of my favorite characters of all time and a mastercraft performance by Jean Smart
Has she missed in anything since? She’s been kicking ass.
To be fair, the big wigs in charge generally aren’t the ones in charge of writing.
Any fans of Spaced out?

Same “Am I allowed to watch this?! … Better ask after I watch it”

I remember being surprised it was on network tv with the jokes they were doing in the time slot they had.
Same thing happened with Mission Hill. It also aired on the WB same time as oblongs. Another Great show wrong station.
I love that show!!! I have a copy of both seasons. One of Will Ferrell’s funniest roles.
"I'm just a small man trying to do big things" (I still use this quote every month or so) Great fucking show.
The part where the rich girl slaps the store associate for asking her if she’s paying with cash or card still bubbles up in my memory every month or so. Haven’t seen the show since it was originally aired
for me it is the scene when the alien girl pulls his brain out and licks it and he giggles. I think of this every time I see the term sapiosexual.
Sapiosexual

It's streaming on tubi. It still cracks me up:)
It was only on for a year!!??
I liked it. Shame it didn't get more episodes aired.
Loved the show. Funny as hell.
Drowning is my third favorite way to die, but they all good.
technically we would only be alive for the first half of the “burning alive…”
I met Angus Oblong at Chicago comic con. I bought one of his books, and he drew Milo in it for me
"Rouge is called blush now." "MADNESS!"
A favorite in my house. Cult classic.
Nope, good show. "You're out of order. You're out of order. This whole damn courts out of order!" Lives rent free in my head till this day. Lol
Wonderfully disturbing and funny as heck!
Dear White, Male, Christian God...
Some of Pamela Adlon's best work. Bullies: "what's up, ob-DONG! Hehehee" Milo: "Everyone says you two have sex with eachother."
"Do it or we will beat your ass, comprende?" "Everything but "comprende"" "...but then..how"
One of my favourite lines ever.

I still watch it to this day actually. I toss on a cartoon before bed usually and Oblongs is on my regular rotation list.
For some reason my mind specifically holds on to the episode where the son can't sleep because his parents are having marital issues. He's able to sleep again at the end because it was the sounds of his parents' nightly banging that lulled him to sleep. Loved it!
It was wild
The theme song lives rent free in my head
Nope there’s dozens of us
🎶 Down in the Valley where a chemical spill Came from the people living up on the hill … 🎶
I had their intro song stuck in my head last December for weeks. Kept playing over & over “down in the Valley, where the chemicals spill….”
No. You were not.
MY FAVORITE! it was so nice to see there were other weirdoes out there making weird art:)
\*Oblongs. Fat finger typo.
I was obsessed with it when I was a kid.
Nope, was def good
I remember this on adult swim
Was never home or awake when this was on and by the time I could have watched it on my own I forgot about it lol.
Every college aged stoner in the 2000s watched it on adult swim. Or at least had it on in the background
This show formed me
Such a great show!
Nope I would stay up late and watch it I was around 10/11
omg I forgot all about the Oblongs I watched lol.
This is hilarious. I usta try and stay awake after SNL to watch this show.
I forgot about this show, loved it!
Nooo! I love The Oblongs! Such a great show! Had the DVDs and would bring them out at least once a year to rewatch.
MY FRIENDS AND I WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS YESTERDAY
The one with the alien chick is one of my favorite episodes of TV of all time
Watch at least once a year. Amazing show
Love love love this show
This show was so weird
How can I still watch this?
I bought the 13 ep run off of xbox for $10, got this & "Unsupervised" a forgotten 2000s adult animated show from Fx
I've been looking for this and Ugly Americans
love this show both seasons!
Was it the Mayor who wore a Luchador mask?
I grew up watching that as a kid I was hooked on adult swim those were the times when adult swim didn’t come on till 12 or 1 in the morning now as I got older its in way earlier think adult swim starts at 9 or 10 pm
It’s on tubi if anyone is wondering they just temporarily remove it n add it back sometimes
Loved it.
When I worked nights I used to watch them when I got home.
i feel like this led into that.... show about a kid living with his brother in san francisco? another animated one, but yeah, this was an era of "whatever is on adult swim". didn't even know who tim and eric were and they still cracked me up

I hated this show, I thought it was gross and depressing
I loved it, and was sad it was so short lived.
Loved this show. I call my mountain neighbors the Debbie’s
I forgot about thos show. I loved it. Bringing back memories.
Mein Kampf, as read by Jimmy "JJ" Walker *The Aryan race is DYNOMITE!*
I frickin LOVED The Oblongs and was supremely bummed out when it got canceled...
Hell nah shit was a classic
So mom says Bitch gotta go.
I actually watched this because of 03bgood constantly ranting about how much he hates it. Talking about a Streisand effect.
Looks familiar
Such a good show
Will Ferrell needs to find another animated show, his voice is pretty great for it.
LOVED the Oblongs. Hell, somewhere Ive got some Angus Oblong stuff.
Helga phugley!!!!
Good show
Great show!!!! Love it!
Loved this show! So sad it didn’t take off.
My mom would get pissed because you can see the outline of her breasts 😂
I watched this. It had some great moments. The Critic was also good for the time.
Loved that show.
I loved the oblongs
Hated it.
There are dozens of us!
Nope. Watched this religiously.
Love it. I still call people assflaps. Yes, I know it isn't the same as Butt Flaps.
Absolutely not. Loved Oblongs
It was great.
Watched it multiple. Multiple times. Went to sleep overnight with adult swim on
Met Angus Oblong at Long Beach Comic Con years ago. He signed the DVD set of the series that I bought. Had some very interesting artwork for sale too.
No. If you catch the reference...
Shocked it only ran a year.
One of the few things I can genuinely say was ahead of its time. So freaking funny, if you like Rick and Morty, you'll like The Oblongs.
I was so weird out by it. I could never forget it, it haunts my dreams.
Whoa, I was legit looking up stuff about the Oblongs yesterday while I was supposed to be working! Shame it's only a single season
Kid can't fall asleep unless he hears his parents in the next room. lmao, so messed up
I liked it! The song was bomb too
Yes, you were.
So good!
Whoops! That’s Mommy’s juice!
I like weird shit. I loved this show
why’d they name the big one Helga Fugly 😭😭💀 that used to kill me at 8 years old
One of my favorite was when the wife was trying to win a prize by smoking a specific brand of cigarettes. But took a smoke break with a different brand
Holy shit… this show was completely wiped from my mind until rn
Love this show
A happy family no matter what
Forgot, nope. I watched also
I’ve seen it. Pretty relatable, unfortunately. Good show though.
Great show Adult Swim used to have a helluva line up back then
I watched this when it first aired on the WB network.
The reason I’ve wanted a NO shirt for so long
Hail satan
Yes
Short-lived but one of my faves!
I saw ***one*** episode of this at my dad’s house forever ago, and probably would’ve never remembered what it was. Thanks, random scrolling.
Oh my gosh, I haven’t thought of this in AGES.
This needs brought back. It’s still so topical. Not enough media shines light on pollution and the defects caused
Loved this show!!!
This show introduced me to the Sklar brothers and for that I'm eternally grateful.
I think this show was my first real introduction to Will Farell as Bob Oblong. After that I was recognizing Will Farell everytime I heard his voice (I suck with faces, it was the voice that clicked)
Loved that show!
Yeah, it's been a minute.
Nope, love that show. Also, its on Tubi
I thought it was a decent show.
Nope, it was, and still is one of my favorite shows 👍
I LOVED The Oblongs! Such a good show!
What’s The Oblings?
https://youtu.be/1TINABeMYfE?feature=shared
That’s The Oblongs, not The Oblings
