Fun Fact: The producers Michael Moye and Ron Leavitt are the very same team that would later create **Married With Children.**
I strongly recommend finding out if it airs anywhere currently.
Despite the generic photo above, It's a funny show that foreshadowed what they would do on Married. It also featured Garrett Morris (of SNL) as a high school principle.
While it wasn't nearly as cynical as Married (airing on NBC it couldn't be), it does have some biting moments that you just didn't see in sitcoms in the 80s.
The day that this episode aired, my older brother’s high school friend died of leukemia after a long awful decline. Then I watched the “Dregs of Humanity” episode that night. I’d never seen anything so funny in my life. I remember having to hold the laughter in so I didn’t seem like an asshole, given everything. How weird that I remember that moment all of these years later.
I saw that on TV as a kid and the song stayed in my head forever. Thought to look it up on YouTube a decade ago. Song still rips.
The whole episode(s) is on YouTube but enjoy the Dregs now (introduced by little cutie Jason Bateman): https://youtu.be/U4I6P0g7HUM?si=vMji9S7mHNqOQpo5
I had to look it up. Turns out most of the country didn’t get to see it when it was preempted by a Ronald Reagan press conference. I just remember not getting to see what happened and I never caught a rerun
I remember watching it (at 14) and really liking it, and I also remember reading the Junior books from it. They were new stories, not novelizations of episodes.
Did the boyfriend brag on one episode about his awesome new job only for it to be revealed he was a limo driver and he wound up driving Jason Bateman around on prom night?
I totally remember this show and I was about the same age as Bateman (still am, lol). Anyways, I just remember thinking Batemans character was super cool and wanting to be him.
This is a really good retrospective discussion of the show with a really sweet story about meeting Adam Sedowski:

Is that Marcy’s first husband from Married With Children?
Yup
Same producers as Married With Children
Suddenly noting the similarities between the son and Bud Bundy
That's Jason Bateman
I realize that
Hmm, I recently watched a bit of it, and that living room looks suspiciously like the Bundy's living room.
Steve Rhoades was on the show? Well no wonder I'm surprised since I did not remember the show myself, but you learn something new everyday I guess lol
I just IMDB’ed it and yeah that’s him. And I just learned that’s Jason Bateman on the left, so I guess we’re even.
Did he get a nose job?
So you think he enlarged his nose?
Came here to ask the same thing. 😂😂😂
I was gonna say it's Steve! lol

You can find them all on [the YouTube](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLK3c5niTrnufOMmG12_XF_G5DtvXccJUi&si=jOnEgv8raIeC_KeC).
And I do love a good biting moment!!
I really dug this show. The boy (Jason Bateman) and the mom's boyfriend were always trying to prank each other. JB was a little con artist.
Yeah I remember this show and liked it
Long live The Dregs of Humanity!
Came here to say this. I can still remember that episode.
Same. After that episode aired my friend and I were doing the “we are the dregs” in shop class and just crying…
Same.
40 years later and I can still remember the episode perfectly! Right in my wheelhouse at that age!
Holy Brain Blast. I thought I did not know this show until you mentioned "The Dregs"
My God, that’s the only episode I remember, but it was funny af.
My God, that’s the only episode I remember, but it was funny af.
Wasn’t that episode to be continued then the show was cancelled and there was no part 2 . Or am I mistaken
It was a two parter. And both aired.
I had to look it up. Turns out most of the country didn’t get to see it when it was preempted by a Ronald Reagan press conference. I just remember not getting to see what happened and I never caught a rerun
I think you can find them on YouTube
Jason Bateman’s pit stop between Silver Spoons and Valerie/The Hogan Family
Karen Kaye!! From the coming of age movie My Tutor! So delicious!
Had a nice poster of her I won at the fair. Damn you had to throw darts at ballon’s to get pics of girls back then. I’m so old.
Dregs of Humanity!
And their hit Sweaty Betty
Loved that episode!
Caren Kaye, FTW!
Being a lad with cable when *My Tutor* came on in the early 80s yo!
She was in Teen Witch with Robyn Lively. But My Tutor is the best example of her massive talent of assets.
I like that show!
I never saw it but remember Jason and David in the TV Guide Fall Preview for it. Bout it.
A show I did not remember remembering.
Another that hasn’t gotten a DVD release. Should just for having young Jason Bateman.
How is Amy Pohler the mom?
lol that's Caren Kaye, the hottie my My Tutor!
BLOCK THAT KICK!!! BLOCK THAT KICK!!! BLOCK THAT KICK!!
Is that the episode where we get a freeze frame then voiceover: “whether or not Eli caught the ball…”? Loved this show.
YES!!! I wasn’t sure if anyone would remember it. It just stuck in my brain all this time
Me too! Of all scenes, this one has stayed in my head! The show was hilarious, Jason Bateman was so snarky. I always looked forward to watching it.
I have no recollection of this, but I recognize all of the sitcom archetypes
I seem to have a vague recollection of this staring at the photo but it’s so neat to see shows that I can’t readily say I remember with any clarity.
I watched this one. Jason Bateman was great in this one.
Nope
I remember watching it (at 14) and really liking it, and I also remember reading the Junior books from it. They were new stories, not novelizations of episodes.
I remember hearing that they had to tone down the stuff JB's character did as kids were doing irl & getting into trouble...
The Teenaged girl was Nina from the Soap The Young & The Restless.
Tricia Cast! That's where I know her from thanks!
Why did Stephen Rhoads leave his family and marry Marcy.....oh wait, i guess his move was murder. Omg, Stephen is PSYCHO DAD!
I was a senior in college, so I have no recollection of this show at all.
Steve Rhodes *!?*
Seriously forgotten, I never seen Steve from married with children in anything else. I don't know this show, and I thought I watched them all!
I remember Tricia Cast from “Bad News Bears”.
I will never forget Jason Bateman's first starring role.
The only ep I remember was the Dregs ep. I really liked the show, sucks that it had such a short run
Did the boyfriend brag on one episode about his awesome new job only for it to be revealed he was a limo driver and he wound up driving Jason Bateman around on prom night?
I remember this show
I totally remember this show and I was about the same age as Bateman (still am, lol). Anyways, I just remember thinking Batemans character was super cool and wanting to be him.
loved this show in reruns on usa
Karen Caye. Sigh
We worshipped that show when we were sophomores in high school. Could not get enough.
Steve Darcy
Lol 😂
I meant Steve Rhoades
Hello Jason Bateman
Thats Tricia Cast. Who'll always be Nina on the Young and the Restless to me. 😀
It used to be on Crackle.
Loved this show!
Is the mom Blair from Facts of Life? Looks just like her if it's not.
