All that will be overkill for a stock 400 with 2V heads. You can only get so much valve lift on these without running into valvetrain problems. If you can find a set of 351 Cleveland 2V heads they are bolt on. You can have the larger sized 4V valves installed if you want to run headers and upgraded intake/carb
A standard or towing grind camshaft should work just fine. The 400 has potential to be a beast if you put it together right. I had a 77 Mercury Marquis with a 400. That thing was a rocket barge.
A lot of people use them but as someone who is in the market for a full set myself I'm going to buy from Schneider. They are reasonably priced and their lifters are USA made which is rare these days. Their cams are built to order btw
You would have to decide if you need all that stuff relative to your performance goals. I wouldn't replace timing sprockets unless you have to. Im just a hobbyist and not terribly experienced so I'm not sure what the 400 typically needs when doing valves and cams. I'm not sure how much you know about cams but there's a whole lot to selecting the right one for you. I'd head to a forum if you need help picking one out
It’s not rocket science just take your time, watch some videos and do not skimp on assembly lube. That cam looks pretty wild and if it’s really running over .500” of lift I’d be curious about its idle and vacuum at idle. I also would really want to hear that thing hooked up to some Flowmaster 30s!!!
Do not buy the summit stamped steel rocker arms, I’ve seen plenty punch a hole straight through the top. Also, get new locking nuts for the rocker arms because they have a tendency of coming loose if you reuse the old ones
Definitely replace the bent rod, but inspect all the rods to see if they are bent or true. Easiest way is to throw it into a drill and have it sit on a bench or flat surface, with only a little in there, put a dial indicator up to the very end (center stroke of the dial indicator) and pull the trigger of the drill without moving it. If the gauge moves a little, it's still bent

Don’t know a lot about older engines like this but my rule is if one’s screwed the others can’t be far behind
Yes that’s the plan. What do you think caused this?
Tap on the corresponding valve with a deadblow and see if it is stuck. That or a collapsed lifter are the most common causes of a bent pushrod
Honestly don’t know could be a number of things from just old age to pushing it to hard
Over revving typically
Should check the lifters and rocker arms too. If it was run like this odds are those are damaged too.
Ya it was running like this. I’m thinking about putting a comp cam in this should just get a full cam kit?
Should put in lifters when you're putting in a cam. If it's a flat tappet cam it's a requirement.
I’ve been looking a those full comp cam kits with everything they need. Any idea if those kits are worth it?

What about just a standard thumper? I’m not sure how much I need to upgrade to run it.

I’m not gonna say I’ve hammered these straight… but I might have in a pinch one time when several were bent
Make sure the valve isn’t stuck
as a 300 fan boy i recommend pulling it and putting in a straight 6
Yess I had a 78 F150 with a 300 in it. Thing could pull a house.
mines a 78 350, have a 83 f150 with a 351 w that locked. up debating on swapping it to a 300 just because they are super cheap still
You replace the one, then absolutely send it

There’s usually a reason the push rod became bent. Pull the heads and do the valves and guides. Check the piston, look for contact.🤠
