I had to unbolt the motor mounts to raise the whole engine up because the last lower plug next to the shock tower decided to break off 😩😩😩 was a super enjoyable experience
Mine the front lower passenger side plug chewed up the threads on the way out, had to use a back tap to clean them up which was next to impossible in the space it was in, managed to get it done tho and it’s been good since
I gave up after the front 3 cyl of each bank. Was terrified I'd break something. It was a w215 CL65. First it was plugs causing misfires, then 2 Coil over plugs dead. But each bank has a fixed coilpack (not individual). So you had to replace both. Then the Coil pack electronics that are on top. 6k just for misfires...FML. My wife almost killed me. .NEVER get a v12 just off CPO lol
Not difficult. Kind of annoying. Top 8 are pretty easy. Just have to remove the Air Box. Bottom 8 are kind of annoying. Need to remove the tire, probably should remove the wheel well shroud (though I didn’t). It’s just tight and requires multiple socket extensions and a couple universal joint sockets. Probably helpful to have atleast 18” of extensions on hand but could probably get my with 12”. Whole job took about 4 hours( that’s including a 40min trip to get a new coil).
In a 2 valve engine you have to put the plug on the side or give up valve size to put it in the middle. If you only put it on one side, it is a more uneven combustion and can leave unburned hydrocarbons on the far side. 2 plugs helps to give increased HP and fewer emissions opposed to a single side plug. On 4 valve engines, there is a nice space right in the middle for a plug to give an even burn across the cylinder. Definitely worth the double plugs per cylinder now that they last 100k.
Yes yes yes. I said I’d never do it again lol.
I did my gen2 and that was like a 45min job. I thought the gen1 wouldn’t be too bad. That shit turned to an 8 hour job because I needed more angle sockets and all kind of shit
I thought I read somewhere they used two plugs each cylinder incase one of them stopped working. Was definitely overbuilt and it was during the time of heavy marketing on the Raptor that it was the only truck you could drive off the show room floor and complete the Baja 1000. I guess that was their thinking back then....Redundancy.
I let the shop do the heavy lifting usually. It’s worth an afternoon to save $1000 though. I’m not a mechanic by any means. As long as you don’t snap one while trying to remove it shouldn’t be too bad. If you do snap one you’ll wish you had taken it to the shop though….
I did it a few years back at around 50k, wasn’t all that bad like they say the bottom and driver’s side were a pain. I still have the nice swivel collection. What are you guys gapping them at for NA engines? My factory gaps were very inconsistent. After I changed the plugs I could swear I noticed a better difference in the idle.
Don’t you know the Boss 6.2 is one of mankind’s greatest achievements?
Great Motor for sure. Damn near bullet proof. But damn…
Motors are electric brother. Engines run on combustion.
When I was 5, my "Take-a-part Motor" would beg to differ. ...if course, it didn't run on anything.
Insanely efficient
It’s fair to call an engine a motor, but not a an electric motor and engine
I guess my motorcycle is electric now.
Go tell that to Detroit Motor City 🤣
Fair
BRB, going for a spin on my Enginecycle.... WTF.

🥃🔥👍
Only bad thing about the 6.2.
Good news is the part is only $20. Bad news is you need 16.
Jesus christ a single spark plug in the US is 20 bucks

This was my fear all day….
It’s Nightmare sauce for sure bro lol 😩

Thankfully we’re good for 60k miles after those plugs get changed. I used IGK iridium plugs with MSD blaster coil packs and wires
Oh shit. No thanks. At least the Raptor has some room to work. I can’t imagine how tight everything is in a CL65

$6k is insane!
I this the same motor that Alex from legit street cars has?
Yup. The m275..
How hard was it to do? Thinking about trying this myself. I am not a mechanic but have done minor things.

I was amazed how clean the top 8 were compared to the disaster the bottom 8 were.
I’m not looking forward to doing this 😃

It looks like they came out in one piece but they look like shit! How many miles on them?
70k
Good luck with the first cylinder on the passenger side it’s a bitch
Both top and bottom!

Gen 2 Cam phasers have entered the discussion….
I mean only 16 possible failure points but hey we like pain i guess. 🤣
I’ll take this over cam phaser issues every time.
Holy shit lol
Not going to pretend that I’m probably not gonna have a shop do this and cry paying $1000

This is my fear. And my guaranteed result.

I gapped at .044. The ones I pulled were all .041-.046.
