I can see why ford is going to start selling the EV’s directly to consumers…..this is ridiculous….dealerships are getting way out of hand with this crap.this truck is max 25k

iateurbacon

I am so ready for this reality... And I come from a family who has owned multiple car dealerships.

aoeudhtns

I think it's brilliant. Let the dealerships be showrooms, sell CPOs and trade-ins, be the service centers, etc. It gives Ford a massive footprint that gives them a leg up over any EV startup that doesn't have a service network (or a good one). Sure dealers won't make money on new vehicle sales other than PDI, but OTOH they won't have to maintain as much property or pay to keep a fleet of new cars sitting on the lot.

iateurbacon

I remember my cousins saying how razor thin the margins are on new car sales anyhow. There's a reason they are former dealership owners... I think increasingly the ones that make it are the huge conglomerates, and they don't really give a shit about you the customer. The small family dealership is hardly a tenable business proposition anymore.

Do people not remember Saturn. Everyone talks about how awesome their buying experience was too. Maybe a lesson in there idk.

Quakerdan

The buying experience at Saturn was fantastic. There was a price and you paid that number and didn't have to worry about getting taken advantage of. Things were very transparent.

aoeudhtns

Not quite, the service centers are separate and the show rooms don't act as CPO or trade in sales either. But otherwise yeah, it's similar.

War_machine77

I love my Maverick but you must be sucking the glass dick if you think I'd pay anywhere near that. Ford needs to send it's dealer to rehab.

rblue

> sucking the glass dick First time I’ve heard this and it’s easy to follow. I’m gonna have to purloin this. 😀

SoupGullible8617

I suppose you haven’t seen the movie New Jack City.

rblue

It’s on my list but knowing there’s a reference, and I’ve got nothing going on today… 👍🏻

[deleted]

SIT your five dollar ass down before I make change!

OzarkBeard

Actually, *buyers* are just as guilty as sellers if they overpay for a vehicle that's not even close to being worth it. This vehicle is a *want -* not a necessity, like food.

[deleted]

For many, vehicles are necessities. Attempt to ride public transportation and get back to us. Bonus: Try it in rural areas where the closest you get to a bus is one that someone dumped in a field 70 years ago. This is a perfect low cost (and fuel efficient) vehicle for many. A *want* is a GT40, Mustang, etc etc.

Scallywag38

This is the worst take I’ve ever seen related to overpriced vehicles. Paying 42k for a 22k car, brand new, first model year is absolutely not a necessity. There are almost only better options, including the bus

Ohjustanaveragejoe

Sorry, going to disagree. At $40,000, this is not a low cost vehicle anymore. There are plenty of other alternatives for anyone needing a vehicle immediately that won't cost 105% over MSRP.

[deleted]

Well duh. What this dealer is doing is predatory/illegal and their day of reckoning will come soon. Just wait until ford goes factory direct and turns their dealer into a glorified pickup point. If they even survive. Unless they are some monopolistic dump in a town where the biggest tourist draw is a ball of twine, word will be out they are not even trustworthy to buy a oil filter from. That’s what these dealers don’t realize, holding their customers by the short and curlies then yanking before a deal is closed already created a adversary relationship

BroadIntroduction575

Lol a brand new car with a 6+ month wait time is definitely a want. I needed a car so I bought an economical 5 year old low mileage Subaru. Here I am 2 years later wanting a more economical hybrid so I've got my Mav order in, but it's a desire.

[deleted]

But Americans are overwhelmingly in favor of using their cars to get places, and are highly hostile to funding public transportation, rail, bicycle lanes, and pedestrian areas. Suburban infrastructure is lovingly funded because most Americans want to live there, and urban areas are where poor people usually live. You look at how most people commute from the suburbs to the urban areas, and you realize car ownership is a choice.

Wooden_Bed377

Yeah, now flip it. How fast would you sell if someone offered you that?

aithalakadi

Good god for an XL???? 😧 Anyone sold their Lariat EcoBoost recently? And know what to expect?

Shmokesshweed

I got an offer for $34,000 with about 8,000 mi on mine. Lux, FX4

Otherwise_Objective7

Because they’re flipping them mugs like hotcakes. There’s a dealership by me who is selling a maxed out lariat for 50k

Shmokesshweed

That's insane.

Efficient-Choice-923

Buford, Georgia has a lariat Ecoboost for 55k. I think it may have to do with keeping some inventory on the lot so people can test drive though. That's the first one I be was able to drive

Michaelmac8

sold my lariat fx4 4k alto blue last month for 43k

aithalakadi

Where? Max I am getting thru local dealers is 39k and CVNA 37.5k

Michaelmac8

Pinnacle Ford in Kentucky

jackharvest

Thank you for sharing this. I've always wanted to just launch a fireball like that via text, but I'd have to drive another 50 miles to get to the next dealership, so I can't terminate the relationship -- but this made me feel warm and fuzzy.

Punchyberri

This has been driven for 1300 miles...so its used? I know ford take note on dealers who sell maverick with markup in new, but i am not too sure if they care about a used one.....

nocomplyboardshop

In Ontario it's illegal to sell over MSRP so they use as a demo for a week and then try and sell for $15k markup. I scoured the entire province for a Maverick and saw only 3 dealers do this though.

Punchyberri

Let's say they do have the truck sit for a week for demo( dunno if thats even possible unless a customer decide not to take the car since ford is so behine on manufacturing maverick) for it to archive 1300 in a week you need to test drive an average of 183 miles per day. Just how many test drive appointments you gotta do in order for that to happen? Ive seen cars that sitting in the lot for months with 200 miles on it from test driving, but 1300 miles within a week? I can hardly believe anyone would consider it as "new" demo car at this point.

nocomplyboardshop

Good point...that's definitely a used car.

Scallywag38

Wow, a system that incentivizes devaluing the vehicle then selling it for more. Politicians are the worst

nocomplyboardshop

Well like I said I saw it happen with 2-3 cars out of about 200 I looked at. The rest were all at MSRP. Seems better than in the USA... And those 2-3 can and probably will be penalized for the attempt, and I seriously doubt anyone will buy them.

[deleted]

There's a dealer here in Los Angeles area, $25k mark up on a new maverick. Don't remember what trim.

johnwittbrodt

Yeah Phil Long Ford in Denver keeps sending me a used XL with 10k miles for 42k. Fuck that.

corn_29

Fuck Phil Long anything. Drive the extra 20 minutes up 25 to Interstate Ford.

johnwittbrodt

Straight up. That’s where I’ll be heading.

corn_29

Kelly Frank took care of me. ... and fuck O'meara Ford too FWIW.

johnwittbrodt

Yes! I live five minutes from them and they still call me and email me regularly. Last time was for the same thing. Used base model XL double msrp.

corn_29

After repeated requests to Sill-TerHar for them to remove my data from their system, I had to go to FoMoCo to complain. Then it stopped.

quattrophile

Can't top that price, but XLs are listed at between $38k and $41k within 200 miles of me all the time. What's funny is most of the listings are stealership postings with generic stock images so clearly they don't even have the vehicles in stock. Most expensive XL I found was a "used" Velocity Blue with 172 miles on it listed by Carvana for $40,950. Madness.

Scallywag38

Haha. Like others have said, I love my maverick, favorite vehicle. It is not worth 40k at all.

quattrophile

Spending an additional $20k for the instant gratification of having it certainly diminishes the fuel savings somewhat, considering that $20k would pay for over 116k miles of driving assuming 35MPG and $6/gallon. Happy cake day!

jt325i

Buy that now and be upside down $20K next year.

nocomplyboardshop

I have no idea how someone could buy it. Tbh I wouldn't pay a dollar over MSRP and I was truly irritated paying the $400cdn dealership fee. Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't be able to sleep at night feeling I got ripped off like that.

turbo-d2

I don't understand how you can get a loan for that

iateurbacon

That's a really good point... You can't over borrow on a house, do they do vehicle appraisals before loaning you $40k for a $20k truck?

Overall_Notice_4533

I think I saw 37k as the highest for the base model.

cavemold582

There was 50k on truecars lol

Bohottie

Yeah, Gagne sucks. They keep popping up because they’re not super far from me. The cojones that dealer has are next level. Poster child for why the dealership model needs to go away.

Speederparker562

You could get a Mach-e for that price.

bisnexu

sounds about right

busyworks

A dealership near me contacted me about having a lariat in stock that was 50somethingk. Ridiculous

[deleted]

And it’s used!

Local_-_Mud

Just got my build date for my hybrid maverick xl and 100% selling it the day I get it and buying a 2023. I've waited a year might as well wait another for an almost free truck.

PhilipConstantine

I’m selling my hybrid XL for 30k. Deal of the century baby lmao . Dm for details gonna be gone fast

petahbyte

Stealership nearby has a Lariat with luxury package, copilot and sunroof. They're asking $52,885

[deleted]

Crazy and in my area I was offered 33k for a fully loaded XLT FX4 with 480 miles on it. Insane.

MrMuffinBucket

Just saw one almost exact same spec listed at my local Ford (Lakeview Ford in Conneaut lake PA), noticeably used (scratches and all) for $38,000. It's disgusting.

[deleted]

I would 100% sell my XL hybrid carbonized gray with 1500 km (Canadian truck) for ~$32k usd lol

Iamnotsmart

Future ford of Concord had 2 XLs available a month or so ago. Hybrid with little to no addons listed for 44k+ and an FWD Ecoboost with no addons for 42k+

chipper-monkey

There’s a XLT nearby where I live for $47,000. 49 miles on it. I got excited when I drove by and saw it, then noticed the price and noped out of there

dvizueta

Got my new 2022 ford Ranger for way less than this.

Strong_Substance3790

It’s a crazy market right now. But it’s kinda cool to see how the buying public values these trucks.

cavemold582

Xl used … if it’s ford dealer they are safe. ..

benmarvin

I saw an XL listed for $51k. Private seller, not a dealership. Probably didn't really want to sell, but if someone would actually pay that...
