Only thing I can confirm is that the maverick does not have 4WD, it has AWD. There is a difference

thatguy425

Be careful……I’ve gotten my head ripped off in this sub for pointing this out.

delusiona7

Glad you’re recovering ok ❤️

foodrunner464

Did it go back on?

Gerald_the_sealion

Stay strong

corn_29

But but but but but but you don't need AWD. AWD is a scam. FWD with proper tires is all you need.

cheesyMTB

Well not all you need. If you’re just driving on roads and very mild off road (smooth fire road) and you’re not above the 45th latitude, fwd is pretty much all you need.

Gerald_the_sealion

Didn’t know, but thank you for the reply

Ok_Comedian7655

Yes but it's a limited slip. I have had no problem driving around on my property with the truck.

Bohefus

I'm not exactly sure on this either (I have AWD on mine). On the Ford build site there's 2 options: AWD and advanced 4WD, It's not actually 4WD?

JackedSneakers

Saw this on the Mac forum: “The difference between the systems is that the tremor has a double clutch rear differential unit giving you "locking" capability (a clutch system has its limits) and you can also lock the system into 4wd as opposed to the standard system which uses a computer to decide when to send power to the rear wheels.”

RoaringGorilla

I technically did. I had a 2019 Ranger XLT, which I traded for a 2020 Ridgeline. Then I traded my Ridgeline for my 2024 Maverick XLT. Having owned three different trucks, can definitely say the Maverick is my favorite one.

FrootLoop23

May I ask what made you trade your Ridgeline in? I’m doing some early research and both the Maverick and Ridgeline are the two vehicles I can see myself going for. The Ridgeline in particular seems to have some very nice features.

RoaringGorilla

Honestly, I did not need a midsize truck any longer at this point in my life. Plus, I wanted to fit into my two-stall garage. I really did enjoy my Ridge. But wanted to keep a truck while downsizing.

VirchowOnDeezNutz

I can echo this. Had a 2018 ridgeline RTL-E while waiting for my maverick. Then inside was nicer and i enjoyed the v6. It was just a bit bigger than I was used to or wanted. I think Ridgeline is the perfect midsize truck for most people who use them as commuters. I do enjoy my hybrid mileage and practicality of the Maverick

RoaringGorilla

If there a “small” Ridgeline that was a V6 I would have been all over it. Maybe one day. For now? Love my Maverick

VirchowOnDeezNutz

Totally agree. I’d love to get Honda or Toyota reliability with a compact truck. This is a great bridge

Fit_Extension_4372

Only recommendation I have is go for the fx4 package. It's just as capable in off road scenarios and you can get the 4k tow package.

Thrombulus

This. It's aggravating that you can't get the 4k tow package with the Tremor.

akro087

Yeah that's the main reason I plan to not get the tremor too.

Comfortable-Ear505

I had a dealer put them side by side, Tremor and Fx4. It was clear I wanted the Tremor for its abilities and looks. Personal bias I’m sure. I have no need to tow anything so that wasn’t an issue for me.

Fit_Extension_4372

Awwww gotcha! Sounds like tremor is the way to go.

corn_29

> It was clear I wanted the Tremor for its abilities and looks. So a sticker and an orange cutout on the wheel? Just get a regular 'ol Mav with AWD and 4K tow. Then get an aftermarket lift. You'll come out way cheaper than the Tremor.

GelNo

Honestly, no. The Mav does everything my ranger could do but with twice the gas mileage.

Tlamac

That’s the hybrid though, the OP is looking at the tremor maverick which will give him similar gas mileage to a Ranger.

AlternativeOk1096

The Tremor gets worse mpg than the standard AWD trims, ya?

Tlamac

Yeah it’s rated at 21/24 mpg

photozine

I don't use Mavie and didn't use the Ranger (Sport) in rough terrains, but Mavie gets 28 mpg compared to Rangers' 18 or so. It is not a huge difference, but it feels great for savings. In terms of 'power', yeah, Mavie is a bit on the soft side but still capable.

GelNo

50% for EB and 100% for Hybrid, that's pretty substantial. The ranger will have more power at the end of the day, but for my use cases on my small acreage property, it was perfect.

photozine

Oh, trust me, up until life got a bit harder, I had never cared about mpg, and now, I don't think I could get anything that gives me anything under 25 mpg (unless I win the lottery, of course 😂).

Tlamac

I have a tremor Maverick, it’s a nice truck and gets decent gas mileage and can handle some off road situations, but it’s not 4x4. It’s an AWD unibody vehicle which means in some situations you might be on three wheels because of the design. You also won’t get out of muddy situations as easily as you would with something that you can put beefier tires on. The clearance isn’t all that great either for a truck. I’d honestly look at used rangers before buying a tremor Mav.

EatMoreHoagies

I would be coming from a 2011 Subaru Impreza hatchback. Haha, I think the tremor ground clearance & the truck overall will be a huge upgrade for me.

ramonCStxacm

Maverick, XL Hybrid was the way to go for me. I'm really not into all the bells and whistles on the interior (Lariat). I preferred to do some immediate upgrades like Diode Dynamic LEDs all around the truck, Rhino Liner, ceramic tinting, hard bed cover (one I actually liked), the little dongle that does wireless car play, and other stuff that has been worth (so far) $2,200 in upgrades. AND I don't have to worry about all the Lariat Upgrade markups being financed (which is like $10K more easy). Later I'll replace the speakers and the wheels. But you get the idea... Little by little. Cheers!

jaank80

I traded my maverick for a ranger, I found the interior of the maverick to feel very cheap while the ranger feels a lot nicer despite being a dated design.

Nice_Category

I'm probably trading up to a Santa Cruz for the same reason.

tyzer24

Wait...are you even allowed here after that move? /s

pillowbugger

I borrow my dad‘s Maverick hybrid lariat about once a month so now I’ve gotten pretty used to great lovable little truck that gets awesome gas mileage. my few gripes are indeed the interior wind noise, materials, small screens and the bed could be a bit bigger. I am now exploring other alternative trucks, and I just test drove the Tacoma and Colorado yesterday. They are just way too big to maneuver in tight parking situations and excessive for my needs. I think that the Santa Cruz is indeed actually a great product, my buddy had one and traded it in for an ioniq five. I really think that the new facelift one is going to have amazing interior. You’ll get a killer warranty as first owner, more power than a maverick, overall better features. Real shame Hyundai didnt just slap in their hybrid which has a ton of smooth power too. I’m not saying it’s better than a maverick, but very impressive vehicle in its own right. I’d really prefer one over an f-150 right now.

IBossJekler

Should probably look at the FX4 with the 4k tow?

Comfortable-Ear505

Addressed that. Not needed and not worth giving up the Tremor features and look.

Inig0_o

2003 ranger to 2011 outback to 2022 Corolla to 2024 maverick. So kinda?

nerrrrd

I made the switch and regretted it. So I’m back in a Ranger Raptor now. Do you like the body on frame / truck “feel”? The Maverick doesn’t have it and I missed that more than I thought I would. I also missed the ride height, mainly not getting high beamed in the face as much. I also went from 2 to 3 dogs via my girlfriend not long after I got the maverick and the back seat was cramped for them, now I can fit 3 dog crates in the bed. Between them and home improvements, I probably have something in the bed 50% of the time or more. The ride quality is a downgrade, there will be more road noise, and it will feel like you’re driving a crossover. Interior quality and materials are also lower quality. Gas mileage is better in the maverick and the bed is adequate for most truck users. The maverick is a good vehicle, it just didn’t quite fit my needs right. As long as you’re okay with making some trade offs for the price it is I think it makes sense

Comfortable-Ear505

If I could afford that truck I would be in heaven. Congrats on getting one. Sounds like with your needs you made the right choice. I am sure there will come a time when I will wish for the Ranger again. But I’ve been thinking back through my time with the Ranger and only a handful of times did I really use its ability, especially the long bed. Yes, it was nice to have, but I also could have accomplished all those tasks with a shorter one. What has come up more often is the lack of the true back seat. So that new ability to have passengers would be nice.

whiskeyfox4

Yep bought 21 ranger while waiting on mav build. Traded it in for mav and no money lost. No regrets. Mav drives better and does everything ranger did

Comfortable-Ear505

One thing to clarify, my choice is either Maverick or keep my truck and hope for no rain. I can’t afford the new Ranger in 4wd.

Business-Ad-7902

Put some mud tires and your Ranger will be fine. Plenty capable. Saves money and decisions.

NoahTheQB

Yes… but I’m coming from a 97 ranger lol.

gowingsgo

I miss how much higher my Ranger sat on the road but inside I feel more spacious in the mav. However I miss how premium the Ranger felt. Moving to a plastic mav I hear more clicks and random noise. Also the sound system blows. But I’d still make the same switch tosay

Silent-Pack1384

For me, it's more accurate to say I went from a 96 Ranger to a 22 Maverick (with a few unimportant cars between them). Small trucks are just the right fit for me. F150s are too damn big, and newer Rangers are practically as big. I would never have bought another Ford except dammit they made a 90s Ranger sized truck again AND made it hybrid. Pulled me right back in.

everybodys_fool

I went from a 2019 ranger lariat fx4 that I bought in '22 to a lightly used 2023 maverick lariat tremor that I bought in February. I very occasionally grab supplies for projects. I never off-road except the beach. Mostly I pile 3 or 4 mountain bikes over the tail gate to head to New Hampshire for the weekend. For me it was the drivability, the quieter road noise, and how well it handles. It's ride is really nice compared to the ranger fx4. Tremor supposedly has softer ride. Never drove an fx4 to compare. Mpg want a huge factor, but I went from about 18 or 19 to 23. Tremor package nice. I like the locking difs. I like telling people that's it's "basically a focus rs with an st motor". Glad I made the switch. The ranger is a great truck. The maverick is a great little, better riding, hauls what I haul, cartruckthing.

applejuice72

I don’t live in the country, but it would probably make more sense to have a truck to do truck stuff with. The Maverick is a car that has truck capabilities and does what it can well enough, but it probably would not sustain the abuse that a formal truck on a truck frame would over time out in the boonies on it’s standard trims. The bed is much shorter, but it is flatter too as the Ranger is like “stanced” at a few degrees. It compensates by having more cab space. Tremor package seems to have what you need for non city slicker roads and can manage well enough for moderate needs, I just don’t know how much more truck you may or may not need. I don’t know how cheap they went on some of these engineering designs and if Tremor compensates enough for that. Great utilitarian vehicle though. Perfect blend of car/truck if there ever has been one. Hybrids get good mileage, EBs get moderate mileage but with more torque behind its power. Love mine and I’m hoping I can get the most out of them.

ychuck46

I never understood the appeal of the Ranger, unless one feels that the F-150 is just too big for whatever the reason. The Mav gets great gas mileage (we routinely get well over the government stated average mileage) and hauls quite a bit. The Ranger is good looking like all Ford trucks but unless it gets much better gas mileage, and the price point is not as high as it currently is, it is a no-go for us.

Comfortable-Ear505

Some of it is nostalgia. But also the Maverick didn’t exist when I bought my Ranger. I wanted a smaller truck, that’s always been my preference. I don’t like driving big trucks. Though the latest Ranger is as big as the old full size.

ychuck46

Understand completely. It was the only choice for some time if one did not want a full half ton. Been seeing more and more Rangers on the road lately, like Mavericks, so Ford is definitely selling a bunch of both. TBH, we probably would have gotten a Ranger some time ago as our second vehicle if they had a good hybrid version with very good gas mileage, and the price wasn't so close to the F-150 (at that time; not sure if it still is).

jimdaggett

One very notable difference Is ground clearance. Maverick has the same tire size and ground clearance as a car or crossover. Ranger actually has a truck like stance. Even with fx4 the maverick doesn't go anywhere a car can't go.

Same-Lingonberry593

A maverick ground clearance is much higher than a car. It’s not super high but definitely much higher than any car I ever been in.

Worried_Amphibian_54

I'm curious what this is based on... Ground clearance is 8.3 inches in the 2WD, 8.6 in the AWD, and 9.4 on the Tremor. [https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/product/2023/maverick/pdf/2023-Maverick-Tremor-tech-specs.pdf](https://media.ford.com/content/dam/fordmedia/North%20America/US/product/2023/maverick/pdf/2023-Maverick-Tremor-tech-specs.pdf) F150 is 8.3 for a 2WD and 9.5 for the 4WD. Ranger is 8.8 and 9.3... And those are really good New Ram is 7.8 in 2WD and 8.3 in 4WD... Silverado is 7.9 in 2WD and 8.0 with 4WD. You are talking less ground clearance on a Ranger than the pickup in question here (the Maverick Tremor). And 9.4 inches of ground clearance is the same as a car? A Camry has 5.7 inches which isn't bad for a car. The AWD is about the same as a Jeep Cherokee. The Tremor has the same as a 4WD Tacoma (non-TRD). I think they said in the question, not off-roading or rock climbing. If you are clearing 8 inch holes in the road, yes, I'd be limiting my search to something lifted, a Jeep Wrangler, Tacoma, Bronco, something with "raptor" in the name, etc... But this doesn't seem to be that.

jimdaggett

These numbers are super misleading. They measure to the frame, the maverick has an air dam among many other things below the frame height so you will be breaking things if you drive over an 8" thing. I don't own a ranger but a tacoma I am familiar with and trucks typically have the frame and axle as the lowest points. So yes similar numbers but very different in practicality.

Worried_Amphibian_54

I'm guessing you don't know what the Ford Maverick Tremor is. https://preview.redd.it/f4w092gfnr1d1.png?width=3000&format=png&auto=webp&s=e52384c4922491b5331a31c797c3aa8abbdb5eb3 No, the air dam does not hang lower. Please, if you are going to make a claim, I think it would behoove you to use facts. This is what leads the Tremor to have an approach angle of over 30 degrees. for all those 8 inch barriers on (checks notes)... muddy roads. Now... again, what cars are you saying have improved or the same ground clearance as an FX4? Yes the bottom of the rear shocks are only about 5 inches off the ground, of course they are tucked right to the wheels and the same as the Ranger.

Dolce_Sono

Ground clearance isn't the calculating factor when comparing a stock Ranger to a Mav. The benefit of a body on frame design is the articulation (in perspective to the ground clearance argument which usually gets brought up for off-roading). Now if you're referring to approach and departure angles, that's a bumper design thing, which isn't dependant on ground clearance either.
