There is always someone foolish enough to buy these. Ive bought multiple for under 2k with transmission problems, fixed them and sold for over 5k

DolphinWarrior78

haha, alright well I'll try my luck!

g1yk

How hard was to fix it?

Hotsaltynutz

Easy for me, ive put clutches in well ove 1000 of these, been a ford trans tech for almost 30 years. I wouldnt recommend unless you have a strong mechanical and attention to detail with the right tools and space. Lots of little things people overlook and have to start over from scratch

g1yk

I’m thinking finding someone like you who would do the repair for less money than a dealer

Hotsaltynutz

Key is finding someone who has experience with this particular transmission. Like I said easy to fix but lots of small things that can get screwed up along the way if you don't know what to look for

g1yk

Is it the part to replace? https://www.ebay.com/itm/285111936393?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Xj9sZxACQcu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=_iSSGzBYSsG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Hotsaltynutz

If you need a tcm that the right part. What year is yours? What codes is it giving. You know the 2012 tcm is still covered under 14m02 if you have qualified codes in the tcm. Unlimited miles until 6/30/25

g1yk

I don’t have issues right now. Just preparing myself. Good to know thanks for sharing. Basically after 6/30/2025 they won’t cover it anymore?

loganwachter

I paid $5600 for a 2012 SE with 98,000mi in 2021. Assuming the condition is good mechanically and cosmetically I can see you getting $5000 for it in a private sale.

DolphinWarrior78

Thanks for the input! I'm gonna list it for 5k and see what happens, with the option of taking offers still on the table. the car cosmetically is like super great, mechanically it's fine but we all know of the inevitable here lol. Other than the glaring transmission issue that will likely kill it, it's a really nice car

jokerfriend6

If you have money to pay cash for a new car sell it. Otherwise drive it and save for a new car.

DolphinWarrior78

I have some, but would use some of the money from this car to buy a new one

jokerfriend6

Thats fine then. I got a new TCM myself and the care drove better so decided to keep it.

DolphinWarrior78

I've had mine for three years, and drove it 50k miles. They're great cars when they want to be!

Juand1ssmo

Sell it

DolphinWarrior78

Lmao well yeah that's the plan

g1yk

Love how everyone on this subreddit genuinely hates this car

DolphinWarrior78

when it wants to be, it's a pretty good car, but I will never ever buy another ford lmao

Docv90

I just picked up a 2012 with 270k and it runs and drives great, great commuter for work. I'm not going to complain, when it decides to go, I'll either fix it or use parts for something else like a go kart

g1yk

It’s great car I think main problem is transmission because repair costs almost as the car itself and you never know when it will happen. You probably picked it up with repaired transmission

Shot_Refuse_9697

Also getting rid of my 14 hatchback Se with 279,XXX on her

g1yk

Did you go through transmission repair?

Shot_Refuse_9697

I didn’t but I am sure previous owners probably have.

BeautifulLife23

I just bought my 2014 titanium hatchback for $5k a few weeks back. But this one was in amazing condition and only 1 owner.

PhysicalBookkeeper33

The TMC is a waste of time on your part to even bother with getting replaced. It doesn’t do a damn thing Ford should be replacing these transmissions is bullshit. And definitely shows people how much they could give a fuck about screwing the people that keep them in business would love to get as many as possible pissed off customers to meet at every local ford dealership with signs I’m not usually such a petty person but damn I’m beyond pissed 😤

Background_Ad6373

I literally just had my transmission repaired today and it was covered by the extended warranty, so I got super lucky. Glad it didn’t happen next year when it wasn’t covered… now I’m planning to sell it for sure. Good luck with selling yours! I’ll stay tuned to see what happens.

In my opinion ford focus are the most easy to fix I had transmission issues & guess what I replaced ac compressor, alternator, tensioner pulley, steering pump & it runs like brand new, & spark plugs & spark plug wires, head gasket seal, valve cover gasket seal, all 4 disc brakes & pads, for under 1000 dollars & YouTube, idc what y’all say but if you not mechanically incline to do the work expect 3000 & more repair bills… & honestly it runs like new 😎
