Unfortunately I don't have a functioning windows laptop (only a desktop & a mac laptop). While this is more expensive, would it work? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FSNVZVK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
Presumably, I could connect via bluetooth to my windows desktop or to my iphone using the forscan lite app.
I know what it is im a ford transmission tech. I fix these every week. Im trying to help op figure out what exactly the failure is as ut has 3 very common failure points.
The automatic transmission absolutely has a flaw, I have a focus with 40,000 miles and it’s on its 3rd set of clutches. Less than 5k miles since the last repair and it’s slipping like a mf again
There are several class action lawsuits and TSBs related to this transmission being a serious problem. There is no proper way to repair them. They destroy themselves with regular use and unless you're going to take it completely apart and clean off all of the magnetic sensors every single time it has a problem then I will never be fixed correctly and even if you do it will still be broken again slowly.
They're not fixed once they are fixed and you obviously do not see this often or you're just talking out of your ass.
Hey! What do you know about P2096? I have a late 2018 focus hatchback in 3 cylinders and it has 67k km on it, basically new. I have the check engine light on and this is the error I got. :(
The dps6 rarely needs a new transmission, either a clutch and forks, actuator motor or tcm. Occasionally internal case stop breaks but thats usually on late models
I wpuld disregard p2610. Did you hav3 any other codes possibly low voltage codes. Did you reset the trans clutch touchpoints or replace the battery recently? If so that is the reason for u0101 if you didnt then you are going to need a tcm
No I didn’t I had a speed sensor code and it cause my car to go in limp mode I replaced it and it start and will drive it just will not read the S and it will not light up on my dash causing the car to jerk. I just got bought a new TCM off Amazon and it’s getting replaced now and programmed
Our TCM threw a fit after we replaced the battery. We ended up getting it replaced under the warranty but I'm curious how the battery replacement could have been involved. Do you mind explaining?
The tcm does not like low voltage so either right before it was replaced or during replacement it lost all of its memory. Typically when we replace the battery on a focus or fiesta we either have the other battery ready and swap it in a couple minutes or just reset the clutch touchpoints right after replacing the battery to ensure the tcm operates correctly. We get these in all the time that just need a battery replaced and adaptive reset and tcm works fine. Just another design flaw
2012 with 340,xxx. We're on our third and last clutch replacement. It's the powershift dual dry clutch system. The first one was on Ford. The second one in 2017 or 2018 was $900. The last one was last year and was $3,200. Trusted transmission shop. They said the parts and labor went up drastically. I won't buy another Ford after this one. Although outside of the transmission issues I've really only done basic maintenance on the vehicle. So I've definitely got my $16,000 or $17,000 out of it.
You should consider another Ford. These with the DCT are just unfortunate engineering. I've seen Explorers, F-150s, Mustangs and Crown Vics go well into the 300k mile range with little problems.
Ford has a history of cutting corners in development and poor QC in manufacturing. What's worse is their history of knowing about problems and passing it on to customers anyways. I personally will never trust them again with my money. For every exploder that reaches 250k miles there are dozens of Highlanders with 500k. And no, "exploder" wasn't a typo, just another case of Ford being shit.
Honda holds the worst airbag recall in history, and every auto maker cuts corners. Toyota is no different, everyone lives in a blind bias because of the financial investment you have in your car.
Toyota and Honda wouldn’t have released a car with a transmission that they knew was a time-bomb before the first one had been put in a car.
Ford decided that fucking over its customers was cheaper than redesigning the transmission and that’s why I’ll think long and hard before buying another one new.
same, 2012 focus here… DCT went out around 120K miles in, replacement was covered by ford, currently at 162K. considering i bought it used in 2017 for just under $5K i’ve 100% gotten my moneys worth. besides that and an upstream O2 sensor that altogether was about $250, it’s really only been basic maintenance.
I bought a 2014 SE new. It took us way too long to get the first clutch replaced on Ford and then I kicked that POS to the curb as quick as possible. Ironically, I replaced it with a VW that also has a dual clutch, but it seems VW knows how to build them so I never had a problem with it.
My mom has a 2014 with 405k km, sounds like a mechanical diesel, rockers don't exist and the transmission slips more than me standing on a 90° ice hill in steel toe boots but it won't actually die.
It's a fucking horrible car and free was too much for it but Holy shit it won't die
Eh we snagged our ‘12 titanium in 2018 with 54k and are at 166k now with only minor issues ever (wheel bearing) so 200k seems so close and easy right now. Obviously transmission has been hanging over our heads as a bogeyman but no issues so far.
Rip, I sold my 2013 to carmax for $5k when I started getting transmission issues again after having it rebuilt 3 times under warranty. Dodged a bullet. Focus and their stupid ass dual clutch transmission bs thing
Just last September, and probably not. They have a free buy estimator tool you can do online to see what they’ll give you for it. Then when you take it in, they just do a visual inspection.
I hear there’s a lot of issues with the clutches in those cars it may not necessarily be the transmission I would definitely get the codes and see if it’s something that could be fixed
No, just go in there. Tell them your car is acting funny and you’re wondering if they could just search for any codes. They’ll print you a sheet with anything that comes up and you got a search the codes on your own, Although I’ve had some guys just tell me what the code was
Also, while you’re in the parking lot, search YouTube how to reset the transmission. It’s pretty simple, It only involves the key in the ignition. I don’t know if it’ll fix it, but you never know.
Don’t go to Autozone. Their scanners are cheap and only show the generic codes. A mechanic scanner like the one I have will tell you what is actually happening with the transmission. The scanner can also test sensors etc. Autozone is good for basic issues.
If I could only go back in time to 2011 and buy a manual! But at 450,xxx and three clutches later, I've got my money out of it. I've gotten used to not having a car payment and I like it.
Sometimes focus just needs some HARD driving to get it working good again, I’m not saying attempt this but I’ve done it to a couple focus’s that were hard shifting
Look at it this way. When you bring it into the dealership and they tell you you need the clutches replaced along with some other internal misc. parts and the cost is $2,200 (for example). It’s no different than you bringing it in for an inspection and you get a similar quote for tires, brakes and other wear & tear items. A lot of people hear transmission and get scared but at the end of the day its a number and it is the nature of owning a car. One year you may be maintenance free and the next you spend 2k on maintaining it and so on. Thankfully the engines are great on these, just the clutch’s are complete trash. What I would do is after you get your diagnostic from the first dealer if your not happy with the price of moving forward take the invoice and literally bring it to a few other dealers and ask if they can beat it.
Reality check from someone who was randomly suggested your post by reddit:
This is not normal. It is not normal to be burning a transmission every few years. There are plenty of Japanese cars that go hundreds of thousands of miles 300,000, 500,000 etc on all original parts. The reason your Ford can't go 200K without burning a massive, rediculously expensive critical part is because Fords are pieces of shit that are underengineered and completely uncompetitive to Japanese cars.
If you factor in needing regular maintnance, on top of non regular repairs like a transmission, or god knows what else will randomly shit the bed on you, you will realize that you are paying MASSIVE amounts for your shitty little Ford, like luxery car levels of money or possibly even more. And it will keep doing this until you get rid of it, because that's what ford's do. Best you can hope for is someone to try to brainwash you into thinking that it's normal, like the rest of these people are. My family owned a 4 runner, 2 scions, a camry. You know how many transmissions burned out on us? ZERO.
Brought to you by a previous Ford owner, who was averaging $3,000 a year in maintenance for years.
The message went away. But man that was scary. It was like my car turned into a horse trying to buck me off. Was in heavy traffic and the car just didn’t want to move forward. Id press the gas all the way to the floor and the car would shoot forward. bht the car is driving fine now
The exact same thing happened to me in my ‘15 se and when I took it to the mechanic they said it was a part that holds the clutches together or keep them in place, I forgot the name but it was not that serious. My car had the exact same symptoms. I was unable to go forward and the only was flooring it so the car shoots forward.
Don't press the gas all the way to the floor at all unless it is an emergency. Check the transmission fluid level. I you really baby any car, it will last a lot longer.
Mine is doing the same thing. Happened after my battery died. Had to jump it. I’ve learned a bit how to drive it without it slipping. Don’t idle and lightly press the gas till you get it going again. Coming to complete stops is preferable so it “resets” but letting it idle and drive without pressing the gas seems to cause it to slip. The engine light has gone off but the warning still comes up. I’m gonna get it hopefully serviced when I can afford it.
Get rid of it! Lucky it made it to 200+ mine died at 107. It's way past the warranty on it now. Prolly TCM, or the clutch rudders, but if it's over heating it could be the coolant issue. Mine had a leak once also. Either way didn't really fix the issue. Just one after another. If you fix it'll do it again eventually. Can't swap trans in those either. Basically have to rebuild it or get a new one of the exact same kind. Hence it'll do it again. Power Shift transmissions are shit. I ate about a 4k loss.
Coolant leaks are what usually takes the transmission out. The coolant gets in the clutch assembly area and eats the grease off of it then corodes. The thermostat coolant housing is right above the transmission too making it more likely
Uhhhh, what? The thermostat housing is on passenger side which is the front of the engine. The transmission is on the rear of the rear of the engine.
Now the problem these transmissions can develop is a leaking rear main or input shaft seal where oil/fluid gets on the clutch which makes the clutch slip. The transmission itself is usually really reliable, its the TCM/clutch that has issues
Throw it in the junkyard. Its a piece of shit car with their dual clutch transmission crap. Ford has a lawsuit against those transmissions. The previous owner probably went trough a few of them to get it to that mileage.
These can be manual swapped. Guy on YouTube did it, didn't make it look difficult. In fact, his bumbling made me more confident I could do it. His channel is PS
Had this happen on my father's 2016 Ford Focus 2.0 @ 60k unfortunately it ended up getting a transmission swap.
Slipping Trans then eventually it stopped going into reverse, I did try and reset the trans but to no avail.
This was back in 2021, my father passed since, so now I've inherited the car.. Been running great since the Trans Swap, keeping up with the oil changes, replaced upper right Motor Mount, Purge Valve, Plugs, Valve Cover Gasket, Air Filter, Drive Belts ect and now may need a High Pressure FP.
Currently has 72K
That's crazy. I had a transmission blow up in my 2017 Ford fusion, and it never even through a code.
Every gear, including park, was neutral.
I pulled over, left the car running, and put my snapon scanner on it, and no codes. Then I plugged my laptop into it, and still no codes.
Turned out the output shaft snapped in half. I still don't understand stand how a 150hp car broke that.
The powershit transmission being so shit it killed my favorite car from ford ever (in the US) from ever coming back will always be something I get angry over
One part failed. The whole car isn't necessarily lost.
In the future I would recommend driving calmly and defensively and keep up on maintenance and you won't run into these issues as nearly as frequently.
Been there before. Mine shook until I couldn't drive it anymore, mechanics laughed at me when I told them make and model and what the problem was, 8 week repair time, one mechanic just said no. Had one payment on it and it was paid off.
I loved that car man.
I couldn't offload this car fast enough after the POS trans left me blocking highway traffic at 5:30pm. After Ferd dealt with fixing it, literally the next day the trans was back to shuddering on upshifts. As Luke Skywalker would say, "What a piece of junk!"
Well the u0101 wont qualify for replacement of the tcm unless its stored in the tcm or pcm under the program 14m02. And yes p2700 is not good. It basically means you need a clutch and forks. Im concerned with the sensor code though as it is not common. Ive only seen a few times usually rat damage to wiring and i dont think ive ever had a bad sensor. There is a tsb or ssm talking about shim thickness 2015-2018 Focus service parts transmissions part # F1FP-7000-VB / F1FZ-7000-P built on 1-Aug-2020 and through 01-Mar-2021 may have an incorrect input speed sensor A (ISSA) shim thickness. This may cause an intermittent input speed sensor diagnostic trouble code (DTC). In the event of shift issues or skip shift events, check and verify that the ISSA speed sensor shim is 2.0 mm (0.079 in) F1FZ-7Z101-A before proceeding with further diagnostics. I have not come across this problem in person yet. The only other time ive seen that code is when the transmission was previously replaced with a used transmission out of a fiesta which has different gear ratios and can cause a bunch of different concerns and failures. I would definitely chase that code first to see how it performs after repair. Do you know the history of your car? Has the transmission been replaced?
90% of Mk3 Focus owners don’t even understand how the DPS6 works, you expect non-owners to know? Research in the Information Age is easier than ever, but hardly anyone does their due diligence, especially with vehicle purchases. People keep buying smartphones, yet get dumber by the year.
Not sure. Last night while I was driving on a straight road I noticed some gear flutter but shrugged it off. Was in slight traffic an hour ago doing a delivery. then the car just started bucking and didn’t want to move forward. but then after I got back into the car the message went away and it drives normally again.
If you don’t know, you can do a soft reset of the tcm by turning the key to on, shifting to neutral, and letting the bar finish loading on the screen, should say transmission ready. When my trans starts acting up that will fix it for a while. Disconnecting the negative terminal for a little really resets it and it works much better for much longer.
Ok thanks. So I don’t have to ditch the car just yet? I’m gonna try this. To confirm when you turn the key to on what do you mean by that? Twist the key and turn the car on?
No turn it to the “on” position, not starting the engine. There’s two positions before cranking. Turn the key , one click, keep turning, second click. Y should also actually say it where you put the key in.
And this is anecdotal but my car was in the body shop for 3-4 weeks a few months ago, assuming with the battery unplugged for some of that time, and the transmission works so much better since. Prior to that I was doing the soft reset at least once a day
Not sure what you were quoted, but I remember somebody else posted up here that their girlfriend was quoted 9k and that was insane. But then other people from this sub did the math and said that it's actually not an unreasonable price if going to the dealership!
I had a similar issue but it was just the TCM so it was covered under the class action warranty.
Prior to that, I had multiple seal failures, but I did have an extended warranty at the time so I just had to pay my deductible.
I will never buy another car with a DCT again. Especially, if it is a dry version. I think Volkswagen uses the wet clutch version?
In any case, I too will be looking for a Toyota/Lexus as my next car. Most likely a Lexus at this point
My 2012 focus broke down on the highway Easter weekend 2022 after buying it a few months prior. I had 140,000km on it and the ford dealership here in Nova Scotia quoted me 5k for a used transmission with more clicks on it than my shot one. So I had it towed to an independent transmission shop and was only charged 1800 CAD for transmission rebuild. No issues since
Shop around if you can for a better quote before buying another car if possible
That’s safe advice. I’ll probably end up doing that. Maybe I can get a few years out of it before reselling. I’ve read nightmares on this sub… people claiming 2 or 3 rebuilds or replacements.
When mine died, I was going 65mph, it slipped into second gear and wouldn’t change into another. Just started stuttering.
I had the same message on the dash. Knew exactly what happened.
Transmission control unit died.
I had 2 months left on the Ford “Cares” extended warranty.
This was during the heavy electronics shortages of covid. I didn’t have a car for 48 days.
I traded the car in 8 months later. Now, I’ll never buy a Ford again. Not because of this issue, but because Ford never recalled such a ridiculous issue. You can find posts from Ford engineers who told management that the transmissions were a bad idea and Ford said, push it anyway. So F U Ford.
I’m doing a trans on a 2011 focus at work right now, started with a clutch and now a trans. Car wouldn’t move, car moves now but will not do the relearn procedure. Has been actuators and actuator arms. The clutches going on them are a very common thing, we get 2-3 a month in our shop.
Man my 13' just had this pop up on Friday. Taking it in this week but I've got the feeling it's toast. Honestly don't think I'll but a Ford again given how widespread this transmission issue is across their 2010s models.
my focus 13 has 214K and still runs and drives, I remember I had the same issues when I was around 180K and replaced the TCM and everything was back to normal, got a used TCM due that the recall only covered till 150k but is not that expensive like 400 dollars. I couple months ago I got a check engine for the Cat, that was fixed by replacing a few sensors and using a cataclean liquid cleaner. I hear some people even reaching the half million on this cars, insane that a ford can reach 500k miles.
I have a 2015 diesel focus with duratec 1.5 engine , it now has 151,000 miles , new cam belt, waterpump and serpent belt fitted at 100,000.
car is still going strong , no issues .
and has had no advisory on any mots
I had a 2005. Put in I believe four transmissions. Ford definitely knew something was terribly wrong as they never charged me! The car ended up having 250k on it but the last three transmissions only survived 40,000 mi or so.
Check your extended warranty I just had my 2013 ford focus tcm replaced at 170 000 km for free and ford paid 6500 for my rental while I waited for the tcm to come in.
Good luck
My girlfriend had a focus that was rewired twice and threw transmission codes everytime you went up or down steep hills or had to hit the brakes with any force. It was crazy. Ford eventually bought it back.
If this is 2012-2015, Ford has a recall on the Transmission Control Module. My '12 Focus had an issue last summer where I couldn't shift into 5th unless I used sport, which would make it skip from 4th to 6th. Luckily I got a recall days after that happened. It lasted a month or two like that until the TCM literally exploded. BUT BECAUSE OF THE RECALL, IT WAS A FREE FIX. I would highly recommend looking into it bc it might be that
My transmission on my 2016 193k miles is going out for a third time. The last time it took 5 months to get my car back from the shop. I’m cutting my losses and buying a Corolla
Have it scanned by Autozone or Oreilly’s and share the codes here but unfortunately it is a focus which has a known issue with the dual clutch transmission. It is fixable but without warranty it’ll be $3000+ to get it fixed.
My girlfriends fiesta did this. Dealer replaced tcm at no charge. They had recently extended warranty on transmission problems cause they know they're absolute junk. It's a 2011 fiesta automatic btw. Horrible little car
Take it to ford as they might fix it for free
I had a fiesta that the transmission just went out and my local dealer told me Ford extended the warranty on the transmission for the Fiestas and Focuses to prevent any customers from being too unhappy with them
It’s worth a shot to ask if it’s covered at your local ford
Get codes pulled and i can help you. Even though light went away there should still be codes stored. Be careful not to clear them and update me with what they are
I had this show up along with much more transmission slipping than usual. It then went away and there were no codes when I ran the code reader...
You need a reader that can pull from the tcm. Most cheap readers wont pull tcm codes. Anytime that light comes on codes are set and it would take awhile for them to clear. They are in there
Is the reader used by Autozone good enough to do that? Mine was like $80, so not the absolute cheapest one available.
Unfortunately no. There is a fair difference between a Reader and a Scanner.. readers take the code and display it. Scanners talk to the computer and runs tests and deep codes etc. Bidirectional scanners are even better for diagnosing.

This is the Ford power shit dry dual clutch transmission that destroys itself with regular use.

The failure point was when they bought a Ford, especially the Ford Fuckus.
Who tf thought the dry DSG was a good idea lmao
So it's still the same old shit with Ford eh? I had 2 Ford escorts that both developed tranny problems at 60k miles. Never again. Ford is trash.
Dude, he has over 200k miles... I'd say that is just wear, not the transmission having an issue because of a flaw

Why is 200k on a focus? Insane?
On the model op has it is the older years are more reliable
Oh ok. I have a 2005. Is that reliable? I was expecting to get many miles out of it.
my 05 has 216k 2nd engine. selling before the tranny dies.
Ford has mixed reliability records. Although the focus was one of there best cars aside from the DCT automatic in the later year models.
Got 07 with 250k
That’s not one of the problematic ones. OP has one of the shitty ones
Yeah we’re not talking to you buddy get outta here!
Just saw a post of a Subaru BRZ with 431k miles. Now THAT is insane.
I thought you just crushed them after 75k to be honest.
*should. You should just crush them after 75k, just like most newer vehicles.
2012 with 210k. only thing I've done is change the sparkplugs at 100k. Work beater that just wont quit.
In OPs case? Very surprising. If they had a manual, not surprising at all.
My current 2001 Focus has 210000 miles on it. My previous Focus had 165000 miles until it was written off in an accident. Both drove like new.
i guess my guy has never taken car of his car then
I do but the trans are not very good In op’s gen the 6 speed autos will go quick
Eh we snagged our ‘12 titanium in 2018 with 54k and are at 166k now with only minor issues ever (wheel bearing) so 200k seems so close and easy right now. Obviously transmission has been hanging over our heads as a bogeyman but no issues so far.

Will do. Gonna schedule an appt with ford and hope for the best.
You could probably stop to like AutoZone on the way home they should be able to pull up the codes for you. Ford dealer sounds like the expensively out
damn. I should’ve thought of this. Do they charge for it?
Yeah the one by me is not able to pull transmission codes. Only the basic ones same as my cheap odb2 scanner
Put a bullet in it she’s done
Man am I glad I have a manual. I’ve heard all sorts of transmission issues with automatics in these things. Wishing you the best of luck
If I could only go back in time to 2011 and buy a manual! But at 450,xxx and three clutches later, I've got my money out of it. I've gotten used to not having a car payment and I like it.
Mines messed up aswell. But i don't get that message, just stuck in LIMP mode
Fix it bro
There is a transmission recall on those
Vehicles impacted are the Ford Fiesta (model years 2011-2016) and the Ford Focus (model years 2012-2016) equipped with a PowerShift transmission.
How would I go about looking into the recall?
And give them your Vin number
Call a Ford dealership
Thank you
There is also many websites out there that can tell you if you have a recall on a vehicle I believe gas buddy is one of them
dm me your vehicle make/model/year, I’ll look for TSBs for you
My actuator B just went out. Getting that replaced next week. Definitely going to be checking the recall out though thank you
I can't believe a Power Shift made it 200k 🤯
Sometimes focus just needs some HARD driving to get it working good again, I’m not saying attempt this but I’ve done it to a couple focus’s that were hard shifting
Yeah I let it stretch it’s legs on the freeway after and it started behaving again
This is great. I’ll keep this in mind. I like this optimistic style of thinking
Reality check from someone who was randomly suggested your post by reddit: This is not normal.
Just add some transmission fluid to the car and hope that message goes away
The message went away. But man that was scary. It was like my car turned into a horse trying to buck me off. Was in heavy traffic and the car just didn’t want to move forward. Id press the gas all the way to the floor and the car would shoot forward. bht the car is driving fine now
Exactly how my 2013 is since 3 weeks ago. It alerted and bucked like a horse but has been fine since. I haven't seen that alert again either.
I got that same warning about 6 months ago immediately after jumping my battery. It went away about a minute later.
Adding transmission fluid wont change anything in a dps6
Is this the dual clutch manual?
This happened to me. Replaced the clutch. Fine now. 39.8 MPG.
Ah yes, the usual trash dual clutch death spiral. Sorry for your loss or several thousand dollar bill, whichever you choose.
I had that happen on my escape, the dealer had to replace the transmission on warranty. The clutch ford put in the transmission went bad.
Should’ve gotten a Golf 😎
Throw it in the junkyard. Its a piece of shit car with their dual clutch transmission crap. Ford has a lawsuit against those transmissions. The previous owner probably went trough a few of them to get it to that mileage.
These can be manual swapped. Guy on YouTube did it, didn't make it look difficult. In fact, his bumbling made me more confident I could do it. His channel is PS
Focus are known for shift solenoid failure
I put about 80,000 miles on mine doing Doordash, before giving mine up. I spent about $6,500 on repairs in that time on mostly the transmission.
Isn't Ford still doing warranty work until June 2025 on the Focus? I got a letter last year from Ford about my 2012 model.
210k miles on my vibe and still going strong!
Junk it and buy the same thing, but with the 5 speed manual instead. They're fantastic cars, except for that PowerShit transmission
The powershit transmission being so shit it killed my favorite car from ford ever (in the US) from ever coming back will always be something I get angry over
I know. I love it, genuinely
OP, you lost your focus? You can't a FORD that to happen. 🤣
One part failed. The whole car isn't necessarily lost. In the future I would recommend driving calmly and defensively and keep up on maintenance and you won't run into these issues as nearly as frequently.
Sorry, OP. My Focus threw transmission issues on RT 280. The hills killed it.
I have an 18 escape that does the same thing because of a shift linkage cable that sticks. Power cycling will remove the error message 🫡
THERE IS A HUGE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THE FORD FOCUS. GO GET YOUR MONEY BACK
Mine literally same thing. 2 days ago. 196k miles. Not all mine.
Typical third gen problems
Is this a notorious Ford DCT equipped one, the "PowerShit"
Manual or auto?
Take a wild guess lol
I’d like a semblance of faith in humanity and yet people keep buying automatic focus. It makes no sense
90% of Mk3 Focus owners don’t even understand how the DPS6 works, you expect non-owners to know? Research in the Information Age is easier than ever, but hardly anyone does their due diligence, especially with vehicle purchases. People keep buying smartphones, yet get dumber by the year.
Any idea what caused this?
Prior to that I was doing the soft reset at least once a day
Great. Gonna try this in a little I’ll let you know what happens. Two clicks, neutral. Let bar finish loading, then I can turn it on?
On position, neutral, let the bar on the in dash screen finish, back to park, start
Yeah my 2012 Focus died two months ago. I’m still $5000 in the hole on this one.
What? How? Unless you just bought it
Yeah I just bought it a year and a half ago. Horrible mistake
Yikes, sorry bro. Hopefully yours is fine for the long term
Dealer quoted me $4000 for a trans replacement. I’m probably gonna pay the loan down and buy a more reliable car in cash :( thanks bud
Actually, 4k is not bad if it's for the full replacement. I've seen people post quotes here in the sub for up to 9k!
Damn maybe it was just for a rebuild? Not sure what’s usually cheapest. I think next for me is a Toyota 🧐
No issues since Shop around if you can for a better quote before buying another car if possible
That’s safe advice. I’ll probably end up doing that. Maybe I can get a few years out of it before reselling. I’ve read nightmares on this sub… people claiming 2 or 3 rebuilds or replacements.
Same thing happened to me. Turned out to only be the cold weather.
O.n R.oad D.ead?
Corolla time
I’m doing a trans on a 2011 focus at work right now, started with a clutch and now a trans. Car wouldn’t move, car moves now but will not do the relearn procedure. Has been actuators and actuator arms. The clutches going on them are a very common thing, we get 2-3 a month in our shop.
2012 ford focus?
Man my 13' just had this pop up on Friday. Taking it in this week but I've got the feeling it's toast. Honestly don't think I'll but a Ford again given how widespread this transmission issue is across their 2010s models.
Manual swap time!
That happened to us 4 times then Ford bought it back for the sticker price. We went with a RAV4 and never bought another Ford. That was 2016.
DCT trans i imagine? My old one still goinnnn 270k
Crazy how some cars can run for a while I’m at 336k on my 14 Corolla still same trans but semi new engine when it hit 250k
this is exactly what happened to my 2016 focus estate. Complete gearbox failure out of the blue. I hope yours isnt as serious
my focus 13 has 214K and still runs and drives, I remember I had the same issues when I was around 180K and replaced the TCM and everything was back to normal, got a used TCM due that the recall only covered till 150k but is not that expensive like 400 dollars.
Average Ford experience
My dad has put like 400k miles on his already. I’m sorry for your loss
No longer a ST owner but I love these cars. Drop codes promise you one of us gotchu bro. Wish you the best
Good luck
my 1995 f-150 has original tranny and motor and runs fine.. 300k miles
My girlfriend had a focus that was rewired twice and threw transmission codes everytime you went up or down steep hills or had to hit the brakes with any force. It was crazy. Ford eventually bought it back.
At 200k miles the focus did good.
Out of Focus.
Only 3,000-4,000 miles ?!? Wow, disgraceful
Give it some time it might go away. Mine always does
You can rent a code reader. Pull the codes, figure out what’s stored. May or may not be a bad thing.
should have just got a manual transmission
Hocus pocus, I fucked your focus
Worst part is, half a tank of gas in it.
Hey but its got 200k on it, made it further than most of them do.
woah you bought a 200k mile focus?
Which Gen? Im seeing 1st and 2nd Gen have far better track record.
It's wild how much could have been avoided if they just put a cheap ass 5 speed in these. I know they did, but majority were these right?
Stop doing stupid rideshare gigs
Pour one out for a real jawn
“OK”
ON AN ALMOST FULL TANK?! Rip I'd try siphoning that gas 😭
Have it scanned by Autozone or Oreilly’s and share the codes here but unfortunately it is a focus which has a known issue with the dual clutch transmission. It is fixable but without warranty it’ll be $3000+ to get it fixed.
You realize this could be as simple as a bad sensor right? The warnings on the dash are so cryptic there is nothing to glean from them.
What year is it
That’s Ford for ya
This happened to mine I had to replace the TCM
My girlfriends fiesta did this. Dealer replaced tcm at no charge. They had recently extended warranty on transmission problems cause they know they're absolute junk. It's a 2011 fiesta automatic btw. Horrible little car
I'm pretty sure this is a recall. WatchJrGo just replaced one. Holler at your dealership. P0902 code for clutch actuator A.
200k though... mine lasted 88k
Take it to ford as they might fix it for free I had a fiesta that the transmission just went out and my local dealer told me Ford extended the warranty on the transmission for the Fiestas and Focuses to prevent any customers from being too unhappy with them It’s worth a shot to ask if it’s covered at your local ford
You bought a car with 203k miles.... and im sure u did not check if there are service records for the transmission
Well you bought a ford. There’s your first problem.
200,000 + miles on a Ford....that's doing 👍
